Track fiddler

. . . Unfortunately he told me there's another one in the other kidney.   He said they can stay there 20 years or start moving next week, next year or at any time, one never knows.

Hope that one is stuck tight as I don't ever want to do that again.

TF

Well, that's a bummer, too, TF.  Kind of like discovering that your house was built on property that used to be an old artillery range.

Bummer, TF.  But at least they figured out what it was.  Hope it is the only one.

You can have my nap.

Good afternoon

I think I'm due for a nap after my rather interesting morning.  Yesterday I had a stomach ache all day but it was tolerable.

Shortly after posting in the Diner this morning I got a sharp pain in my lower abdomen radiating into my back and bladder.  The pain got so excruciating it was like someone had stuck a knife in my gut twisting it.

After heading to the sink two times I pretty much realized something wasn't right so I decided to pay a visit to the ER room.  I was given some pretty heavy duty pain meds in the IV with whatever else was in there.  The Doc said the CT scan showed the kidney stone had passed into my bladder.

That was the worst pain I had ever experienced in my life.  I've had some pretty serious pain but this made that look like a toy.  I'm at home now and the Doc said round two isn't as bad.  So now I get to hurry up and wait for "Isn't that bad" Tongue TiedSad

Bear,

Regrettably, the color of the mustard identifies the offender.  On the other hand, there are seemingly endless variations.  Substitute a Poupon and a brioche and turn it into a Riviera Dog.  Pay for them in francs Whistling.  (Apologies, that was quite bad)

Good Morning, Hope all are well.

JUst checking in. not much going on here between Possum Trot and Monkey's Eyebrow. Having good weather the past few days. spring has started to arrive.

I am on call this week at work, luckily I have minions now that do my bidding during the day so I don't have to run every ticket.

I have been replacing fans in power supplies for medical carts here at work. It seems the fans sieze up and then the power supply cooks its self over time. The power supplies are $1K a piece, the fans $6. It takes me about 20 mins per cart because I have to remove siad supply, take it apart, remove the bad fan, put the new one in, repeat.

Good morning

Good one LionLaugh

Another beautiful day forecasted today.  I think I'm going to put the tree mat away for awhile and set up the field saw out on the patio.  I need to make some wooden piers and two abutments to finish the loose ends on Bridge #1.

Yesterday it was 58° F and I didn't even know it fiddling around with a rope tree experiment.

Sorry to hear about your elderly family member David.  Alzheimer's or what it may be can be a tough thing.  My thoughts and best wishes go out to you and your family.

Judy was watching Dr. Oz one day as he was talking about the unfortunate disease.  He had a brain specialist on the show and was describing how a multivitamin in the pill form deposits blockage in your memory channels over time.  The brain surgeon displayed a cross section of an actual human brain and pointed out deposits of a shiney silvery substance.  Freaked me out.  Since I seen that I threw away the Men's One-a-Day and I've been eating more fruits and vegetables to get those vitamins naturally.

Good to have you back and Thanks for all the Green for Saint Pat's Day Ed.  Love the Triple Truss, Green Machine coal drag coming through the valley, -n- that BN Shanty & CabooseStick out tongue  The broken balance of the time continuum has been restored again and things are almost back to normal around hereLaughSmile

Good Morning Diners!  Happy St. Patrick's Day!  I've got my green on, and have corned beef & cabbage & Guiness Extra Stout lined up for tonight!  Now I know the corned beef isn't really Irish, but it plays to my roots as both an American and someone with a lot of Irish in my family tree.  Speaking of which, it's funny how genetics work.  If you look at my family tree, I'm about half Irish.  However, genetics don't pass down neatly like that.  My DNA test I took shows I have about 20% Scotch-Irish genes.  Genetically, I'm mostly English, but there isn't as much English in my family tree as Irish.  Go figure.

I am glad the #1 troublemaker has been shown the door as he sure dragged down the positive atmosphere around here.

You know, I had hit the point where I was looking at threads I saw he had posted in even if I had no interest or nothing to contribute just to see what nonsense was being spewed and to be sure someone was trying to actually get helpful information out to someone.  Sad that we were at that point.

Good morning Diners.   A coffee on the go please, Brunhilda.

A challenging day ahead for us.   The oldest member of our family is not 100%  (shall we say).    He is the last of a generation,  then we come to us younger ones.

Try and call in later.

Good afternoon from Beautiful British Columbia where it is 16c and sunny.

Just got back from a 9.68km walk and have cracked open a nice merlot. It was stunning walking through the forest today. Partway through the RCMP chopper started circling overhead and we since found out they are searching for an elderly man with Alzheimer's who wandered away from the family farm. I hope they find him. My Dad wandered away from his care home once and they found him 16hrs later soaking wet from the rain in downtown Vancouver.

Sunlight through the trees makes for a perfect walk.

The movie/TV industry is really gearing up as Spring has sprung. On our walk we saw they have been building a set in the forest, it looks like some sort of fantasy thing as there were all these little houses everywhere.

The kid says that the new Star Trek movie is likely going to be filmed here as the last one was and all the major Enterprise sets are here in storage. He was offered a spot on the last one as a Redshirt but there was a conflict with University so he had to pass. He may take time off work this time as he is a major Trek fan. He is in if he wants it as he has maintained all his connections with those that count.

Glad to see Ed back, I had pretty much figured he was just taking a breather after all the nonsense that was going on. I am glad the #1 troublemaker has been shown the door as he sure dragged down the positive atmosphere around here. I was hoping his racist comments would be enough to make that a wrap for him. I am mad at myself for going off on him in TFs thread but when it comes to that there is no holding me back. Sorry TF.

I had a DUH moment on the layout. I have a spot where three tracks do a 180 and are nicely spaced with no conflicts..... Sooooo, I installed three Caboose ground throws on the curved turnouts and my Rapido coaches had a conflict with those.Angry Back to the planning dept.Laugh

Spring has sprung in Vancouver.

No photo description available.

No photo description available.

Went for my shoulder X-Rays today and I was in and out in 15 minutes, didn't even get to sit down.Laugh What a great system.Yes

While I was gone the wife signed us up to take some refugees from Ukraine that are starting to arrive in Vancouver, we live so far out of town that we will probably be on the reserve list but we are here if needed. We have a big house with only the wife and I and a train layout for some kid to enjoy. We may be able to get some sort of hockey program up and running for them as well. My son volunteers and works with an organization associated with Hockey Canada and is on the board of directors so we will see.

A safe place waits for these people and the cherry blossoms are out.

May be an image of nature, sky and tree

 All the best to all.

On a positive note I would like to happily share that - as of today - one particular forum poster, who has built a reputation the past 20+ months for being disruptive, argumentative, surreptitious, and the main perpetrator for a number of threads going off course - has been shown the door by Steve.

Thank you Steven!

Alright, a little late but here's your coney islands - from the top of page 8:

Apparently my last visit was so long ago that I didn't remember that the mustard goes on before the onions.  Historically, two lunch counters in Jackson (separated by about a half a block and a stone's throw from the MCRR/Amtrak station) vied for the best coneys.  In either place you'd walk in and say "Four and a Coke".  It was presumed that you were ordering these; anything else you had to identify.  But as of a couple of years ago, they were available all across town - if you hunted them down.

It's not surprising that the Diner has posted scads of references over the years to iconic locations and menu items all over the country.  This is but one from Southern Michigan.  A couple of others from Jackson are/were Schlenker's (hamburgers) and The Dome (ice cream, at its original location).

That sort of thing just doesn't happen in the NFL.  Unless it's in Detroit.

Or the Jets.  The last time they were in the Superbowl was with Joe Namath, who is now doing Medicare ads.

That suggests problems with Lions management, but then, I don't know.

You are so right, you have no idea.  They  (the Ford family) are the only common thread over the decades of futility.  How many generational talents have they had that went nowhere?!  Matt Stafford (not generational, but far better than his Detroit record suggested), Calvin Johnson, Barry Sanders, etc, etc, etc.  I remember one of the teams in the 90's sent something like 8 or 9 players to the pro-bowl and yet the team had a losing record.  That sort of thing just doesn't happen in the NFL.  Unless it's in Detroit.

Hi Mike

I had sent an abuse report in yesterday.  I don't know how many others had already done so or how many reports it takes as there's probably different circumstances.  I was wondering to myself why I hadn't submitted one earlier on instead of nancing around in the thread with the source.

Years ago as a newbie I had said something to Ulrich that was taken the complete opposite way as it was intended.  I was emailed I was reported for abuse and put on probation.  My posts were pre-moderated for a better part of a week, so I know that report abuse submission works.

Ed, so glad to see you back in the diner.  Zoe, Ed's tab is on me tonight.

Tom, I used the RA button a couple times that warranted it and assumed it went nowhere as I never received an acknowledgement and saw no change.  Good to know they are received and reviewed by someone. Yes

If there really is something more than a glitch keeping Kevin out, I would like to offer up my vote to let him back in ASAP.  I know I'm just a peon here, but I hate to see good people not be able to participate here.

Hi Tom and Thanks for the update.

I had let Kevin know through email today some of these incompatibilities among other situations with computers and phones that my daughter explained to me.

I'm certainly no expert on the matter but a few of these troubleshootings from her got me out of the woods more than once.  I hope what I passed onto him helps his situation.

I know he thaught he was suspended and I had starting thinking that as well, so thanks for clearing that up.

I will say that the primary reason I went to the back of the Diner, in fact way out back by the old grease-reclaim dumpster, was what I believe — unless my suspicions are incorrect — the suspension of Kevin's account for, allegedly, standing up for truth (facts) and integrity of the information presented here in these forums. I, too, was drawn into a thread about DCC meters (too complicated and unnecessary was the conclusion) and I simply bowed out of that conversation.

So in a way my absence was a mini-protest which, of course, fell on deaf ears as there seems to be no recourse here. I would at least like to allow Kevin to present his case to a peer review and the forum participants could have a say in the outcome.

Now, what do we have to do to try to reinstate Kevin? Should we march on Kalmbach HQ carrying lighted railroad lanterns? Here we are in Florida and our resident host of the local history is (potentially) banned Hmm  This is a travesty!

Ed, welcome back from wherever you went. Laugh

Regarding Kevin, what is his status? Has he been banned, or is his disappearance computer-related? Nobody seems to know for sure, including Kevin.

Standing up for truth (facts) and integrity of the information presented here in these forums are both critical to an informed membership. I will offer this thought. If Kevin has been banned for speaking out in harsh terms, to paraphrase Hippocrates, desperate times call for desperate measures.

To Ed and all,

FWIW, I'm not presently aware of Kevin's account being either suspended or temporarily locked by the admins.  And the last time Kevin had login issues I did inquire and was informed that Kevin had done nothing to merit a suspension.

So...I think we have to conclude that there is some sort of conflict going on between the forum software and Kevin's computer/forum account that isn't allowing him to post and nothing more.  The aging software seems to invent new issues every couple of months or so.  I wish I had the power to address and fix them but...sadly, I don't.  I have to put up with the same gliches as the rest of you. Tongue Tied

On a positive note I would like to happily share that - as of today - one particular forum poster, who has built a reputation the past 20+ months for being disruptive, argumentative, surreptitious, and the main perpetrator for a number of threads going off course - has been shown the door by Steve.  And, if you suspect that a newcomer to the forum in the days and weeks ahead resembles this ex-member by their online presence and persona, please do not hesitate to submit an RA (Report Abuse).

Good afternoon all.

Zoe - RBF's all around please. Thanks.

Disappearing people discussion - I have noticed a few threads going in what I felt were "not right" directions, so had bowed out of most threads of late because of it. Seems cyclical for some reason, there is times that it seems nothing wanders off track, then times that everything gets thrown off the rails.

And I can say that the mods don't always have the easiest of jobs around here because of that. But I do feel that they do try to do the best they can, given the circumstances they are faced with. (Not saying I agree with every action by everyone, mod or not, just that the mods try hard to keep the peace, and that ain't always easy.)

Give Vinny, Steve, and Tom a extra RBF each for me Zoe. (Virtual calories only count virtually.)

Nothing major to share, as I've been very busy with non-train related activities lately.

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the day!

Hi Ed

Good to see you back.  We kinda missed you around hereWink

I wish I would have known you were out back by the dumpster.  I would have came back there to hang out and possibly do some dumpster diving with ya.  Who knows, ...The dumpster behind a Model Railroad Diner might have some good stuff for modeling peering over the lidLaughSmile, Wink & Grin

Talked to Kevin via email today and told him of the good news around here.  Shortly after I saw him in the Users Online box but soon after that he told me he still couldn't get in.

Perhaps one of us should start a petition that he should be allowed to come back if that is permitted.  I would happily be the first to sign.  Kevin is a very likable good contributor of the community here.

"The reports of my death are grossly exaggerated..." *

     — an oft used misquote attributed to Mark Twain Wink

Thank you TF, CNCharlie, Dave, Bear, Brent and others who have noted my little recess period. I have many friends here and I wouldn't leave them hanging by simply disappearing.

There was a confluence of events here that caused me to take a step back and pause for a while. I even skipped out on Weekend Photo Fun.

Yes, the "Godzilla" thread which thankfully disappeared didn't necessarily upset me but I thought the responses of two of the participants were somewhat juvenile and one was particularly disparaging to some cultural groups. Very childish and the replies did not add anything to the conversation. The original post was quite humorus and entertaining.

Still, it wouldn't be fair to me or the friends I have here to simply disappear. Thanks again to everyone for your sincere concern. Now, what do we have to do to try to reinstate Kevin? Should we march on Kalmbach HQ carrying lighted railroad lanterns? Here we are in Florida and our resident host of the local history is (potentially) banned Hmm  This is a travesty!

Hi Everyone,

Brunhilde, coffee with cream, please.

Ah, the Detroit Lions.  i was unaware that they are owned by the Ford family.  Sounds like a situation similar to the Wrigleys owning the Chicago Cubs.  It didn't matter if the team won or lost, they still made revenue.  Funny their former quarterback wasn't going anywhere with the Lions, gets traded and wins the super bowl.  That suggests problems with Lions management, but then, I don't know.

Im a Chiefs and Chargers fan.  I know, same division.  I've liked the Chargers since 61 when they were in LA the first time.  Then they moved to San Diego for 50 years and for lust of more money, dumped on their loyal San Diego fans and went back to LA.  I get it.  It's about bucks.  But, what are they doing to the people who supported them for 50 years?  I'm sure there's more to it than that.

Now that you mention it, Ed has been missing lately.  I hope all is ok.

Once again it's time for March Madness.  Hope everyone's team does well unless they're playing mine.
