BATMAN

Since no one else has asked, I guess I'm the only one who doesn't know.

What exactly is the purpose of that contraption under the loco and how did the loco get up there?  I don't see anything that looks like an overhead crane, at least not large enough to make the lift.

Or is it just a turntable with the pit photoshopped out?

How long have you been sampling 10W40?

John, I'm sure I tasted WD40 at some point as well.  I always got dirty helping my dad restore antique cars.

Don,

I posed the question as someone who's been down this road.

When I was a lad I found an open 7 Up bottle on the workbench in the basement.  Liking the stuff and being unconcerned that it had probably lost its fizz, I took a swig.  Glad I didn't swallow - it turned out to be brake fluid.  That swig was splatted on the bench top in about nine nonoseconds!  As I recall, it took a couple days to get the lingering "flavor" out of my mouth, regardless of the kind of rinse I used.  And then I was introduced to the concept of memory taste.  Dad was on the road and Mom never knew.  Some things are better learned in private, don't you know.

Got flashbacks about 15 years later in the Navy.  A sickbay corpsman gave me a little bottle of mineral oil to take in prep for check of my GI tract or something.  He said to get down as much of it as possible and that using a Coke as a chaser would help.  Not even close.  Dead  I'll spare the rest of the details . . .  Whistling

Hey, LION, should we integrate all this?  Can you do eggs in motor oil?  Smile, Wink & Grin

Sunny side up, spooning hot bacon fat over the eggs to cook the top?

Those were less health-conscious days.  Now I do them over easy in butter.

Good afternoon Diners.  A large coffee and blueberry muffin please,  Janie.

WD40 and the like is not for me.  I try to keep away from anything mechanical.   My son is different.  Many a time he would be under a car fixing something or other.   'Helping'  would be one of our cats (we had).   The cat would be 'everywhere' around the car.   Brake fluid was his favorite.  Licking it at every opportunity.   My son trying to push him away;  often unsuccessfully.

The cat was a tough old 'un.  He feared nothing.   The eighteen years of his life we seldom saw dogs.   Most dog walkers took another route.

Tough as he was he had a soft side.  Any of us poorly  he would stay nearby  'keeping an eye on us'.   Off he would go when he knew all was well.

Off to make a late lunch.

Good afternoon from the warm and sunny West Coast. It is Rum and Pepsi time after cutting the lawn for the first time this season. Had to jump-start the Deere as the battery is getting old. I have a spare battery if it is really shot but I don't think it is there yet.

Went for a long walk with the dogs and came across this early 1900s town they have built for a movie. They have big tents everywhere and one of the crew said they are bringing in hundreds of extras this week to populate the town. You are looking at the back of the false fronts of the town. Didn't want to get in the way so did not go any closer. Forgot to ask what movie it was.

TF, CC is a real cutie.

Speaking of the Beatles, I watched that Peter Jackson documentary on the Beatles, it was so good. I think it is on Disney.

I watched "The Adam Project" last night and enjoyed it, kind of goofy but lots of friends worked on it so I like to say I watched it when they ask.

The wife and I stopped at the butcher and she grabbed two big fat juicy steaks and then we stopped at the wine store and got two nice bottles of Cab-Merlot.  The Canucks are playing tonight, life couldn't be better. It has been a full day.

All the best to all.

Good afternoon

Judy and I have been making vegetable beef and potato soup for the week today.

Thanks for all the nice comments about my little CCSmile

I would have been pleased for you to join us going to Dave & Busters MLC.  Usually funner when "the more the merrier".

Sorry to hear your uncle isn't doing well David, and also for this unfortunate time of year with repeated family losses.  I certainly hope that pattern doesn't continue.

I have an irregular heartbeat as well like my father.  He had to have heart surgery in his late 70's which went well but not very comforting as I'm a chip off the old block.  Hopefully your tests go well and they come up with a non evasive solution for you.

I wish I would have had that purple switcher when I lined up the three locomotives for that picture for Fat Tuesday Ed.  I had the green and gold one but not the purple oneLaugh

Thanks for the kind words Bear.  I did a lot of reading when I was young and developed a reasonably large vocabulary.  Now and then I find a word that my definition understanding was a bit off from the start.

I stand corrected as I always thought hospice was the hospitality of a nurse.  Sometimes my incorrectly understood definitions are close enough, but apparently not this timeLaugh

With that said, I'm still a bit tired, I think I'm going to get an afternoon cup of motor oil.

I think that's what I'm going to call coffee from now on.  It does get you running smoothly in the morning and keeps you from seizing up later in the dayLaugh

Have a great rest of your afternoon gentlemanWink

Stuck at the dealership this morning as they inspect my mother's car.

But the good news is I have time to look at train videos.  And there's free coffee...strangely taste like 10W40.  Same consistency too.

This time of the year for us is not so good.

Hi David,

I am sorry for your losses, both recently and in the past. I wish there were words that would truly comfort you, but alas, there aren't any that can take the feeling of loss away. All I can suggest is to do what you are already doing. Enjoy your family, and your trains, and all the other things that you and Dawn do to make you happy.

Cheers!!

Dave

Good morning Diners.  Another coffee on the go please,  Zoe.

Just in and out  today.

This time of the year for us is not so good.  Through time a large number of our family  have 'passed to the other side'  between the 10th and 20th March  (including my mother, father and twin sister).  My Uncle and a cousin have passed this week.

TF   Good to see the pictures.  Looks like fun.

Ed.   That purple switcher looks rather cool.

A busy day ahead.  I hope I get time to run trains.   Passengers on the platforms are complaining of 'late trains'.

Thanks for the passenger car hospice nurse Bear.

Here, down under, “Hospice” is a place of care for terminally ill patients who are close to passing, so while I’ll send a hospital car and nurse, I hope I don’t ever have send a hospice or chapel car. You’ve still got too many trees and bridges to make, and little cutie to watch over.Big Smile

If I hadn't been watching the video and just listening to the music I would have thought I was listening to the Beatles.  Very much sounded like them.

Thanks for sharing your good-times with CC, TF! I'll see my clan on Sunday Big Smile It's been years since I've been to Dave & Busters but I remember it was fun Yes

I don't often post music videos here but a while back I stumbled across this bunch called The Analogs and they do some pretty good Beatles covers:

Oh oh,  Something already came up for the weekend like it always does.

It was my darling little great niece CC who wants to go to Dave & Busters to play games.  That little girl jumps out of bed and has a smile on her face the whole day until she retires at night.

I told her of course Auntie Judy and I will take you to Dave & Buster's.

Good afternoon Diners.   A Pepsi Max please, Flo.  No Ice.

I know the Indoor Cricket I play is to keep me fit and all that,  but it is a nicer feeling when we win.  Yeah

Hospitals and medical I have had more than my fair share.   Everytime I see a 'new doctor'  etc. and they examine me they come across my irregular heartbeat.  A few days of  tests and hospital food  I am sent back home  still the same as when I entered.   Yes.  I know I am fully checked over, but I have the worry of whether Dawn will cope.

I am now waiting to be admitted to hospital for an echocardiogram  and other tests.

Visited my Uncle yesterday.  Not good news.

My granddaughters both won awards at school.  (Different schools.)   I received a phone call from them both thanking me for the help I gave.   It's not the help.  That comes with love.  Listening and applying the knowledge  is the key.

Just a thought.

With Kevin missing because of the Forbidden notice, is there other Diners in the same error?   If so, have they 'given up'.    I know I have a few times it has happened to me.   Trying to post three or four times without success.  With looking after Dawn I have given up some days.

Stay Safe Everyone

Good morning

All those pain meds yesterday made me tired.  I just grabbed my favorite maroon blanket and couched it all afternoon through the night.  Thanks for your support, and good humor here gents.

Did kinda feel like a stray bullet from an artillery range JohnLaugh

They gave me one of those funnel screens too Dave.  Now it's like I'm going agate hunting everytime I have to peeLaugh  I bet you looked stoned crawling around on the bathroom floor looking for oneLaughSmile

Funny stuff LionLaugh  I still think I have four kidneys, One with screws and staples in it, and one with a rock.  I never did completely grow up all the wayWhistling

Thanks for the passenger car hospice nurse Bear.  Always love getting a BeartoonLaughWink  I Miss Garry too

You went through all that fun with the kidney stone too Ed?  At least that leaves no room for anyone to envy you anymore, Inlight of that beautiful rural country setting you live in up thereLaughSmile, Wink & Grin   I had forgot about that picture.  You sure looked tuff in that bowler when you were a young blokeYes

Brent, He told me they're both the size of a grain of sand and to follow up with my primary care doctor who I haven't seen forever.  Judy has been harping on me about getting health insurance for years.  I finally filled out forms and got them submitted last week but no confirmation or bill yet.  I know that wasn't done in time.

I didn't really appreciate the size of the 'Bill' for that fancy bed we bought before Christmas, ..but at least we had something to show for it.  Just wait till I get the one from the ER roomLaughWhistling

WHERE'S KEVIN???

Enjoy the weekend gentlemanWink

You may want to do some reading and decide a visit to your GP is in order.

YES. The Emergency Room is not the place for general surgery or consultation.

They will treat your immediate source of pain, but can do nothing else. An ER doctor doen not even have admitting privliges in his own hospital. If urgent, he can refer you to another practitioner who can admit you, but yes, it is time to consult with your regular doctor about this.

Your discharge papers from the ER probably refer you to a follow up appointment with your doctor. When you call for an appoinment TELL the appointments desk that you were referred by the ER and that will get you in this week instead of next month.

Unfortunately he told me there's another one in the other kidney.   He said they can stay there 20 years or start moving next week, next year or at any time, one never knows.

Hope that one is stuck tight as I don't ever want to do that again.

TF

Having blocked plumbing is never a good thing, why did they not treat you for the other one while you were there? The size of the stone determines the course of treatment but the damage and complications that can result from leaving it jammed in there tell me something is not right. Obviously, we don't know the whole diagnosis but it sounds like a ticking time bomb that will either cause kidney damage or at best be another trip on the pain train once it leaves the station.

You may want to do some reading and decide a visit to your GP is in order.

My Brother in-law and a good friend of mine both had kidney stones at the height of covid when the hospitals were swamped. Like you, they presented with stones in both kidneys but the BIL had them zapped to dust and my friend had a surgical flush. Beats severe kidney damage.

I did a little work on the bathroom between phone calls today. I had another trouble maker phone me insisting he was promised that he would be a beneficiary in this ladies Estate I am looking after. I gave him the legal steps on how to apply to the courts to see the will. His eyes glazed over on step two, I could feel it over the phone, Moron.Laugh

The dogs have sure caught a lot of rabbits lately. They dutifully hand them over at the door and I take them (now deceased) across the road and lay them at the edge of the forest. Every morning they are gone, probably picked up by a coyote. If there was ever a food shortage our dogs deliver right to the door.Laugh There is no shortage of wildlife around here. I can easily pull a nice salmon out of the river as well.

Then

Now

All the best to all.

After heading to the sink two times I pretty much realized something wasn't right so I decided to pay a visit to the ER room. I was given some pretty heavy duty pain meds in the IV with whatever else was in there. The Doc said the CT scan showed the kidney stone had passed into my bladder.

Hey TF!

Let's start a club - "The Kidney Stone Survivor's Club"! I went through that crap in 1989. The pain was horrible!!! They had me scheduled for surgery in a few hours when the stone finally passed. I had been told to pee through a sieve so I could show them the stone to prove that it had come out. I got the stone in the sieve and then promptly dropped the thing on the floor of the bathroom and the stone went skittering off to places unknown, just like model train parts do. I was informed that if I didn't find the stone, they were going to operate. This was before they could blow up the stones with ultrasonic waves, and I don't think that CT scans were available either. I know that they could see the stone on an x-ray so maybe they were just trying to scare the pee out of me! Anyhow, so there I was on my hands and knees searching the bathroom floor, which was as disgusting as you can imagine it would be in a ward with four beds.Ick! I managed to find the stone, thank goodness! Nasty little beast - it looked like a mini sea urchin! No wonder they hurt!

I don't ever want to go through that again either!

Cheers!!
