BATMANEnd of the month is sneaking up on us so I will make some suggestions for December. One is Christmas trains as in Prototype, city/park/zoo trains that get dressed up for Christmas, and of course those we have in our homes. Another idea is trackside structures that are not stations. I am easy whatever or wherever we land.
I like either one.
I will move the Diner unless someone else wishes to do it.
I made salted caramel sauce for the Christmas pudding today. I had to do it twice. I burned the first batch. What a horrible taste! The second batch came out okay. I added a touch of brandy.

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
BigDaddyIf Walthers advertizes 12%OFF and the code is DC12OFF, is the seriously any doubt?
None at all. It is an "O" and not a zero.
-Kevin
Living the dream.
We had butternut squash, which was better than sweet potatoes, and the turkey was excellent.

Good afternoon from the sunny West Coast.
Spent the day outside cleaning up around the joint, wife brought all her pots in or where they go for the winter. I now have a lemon tree in my office with lots of lemons on it. Lemons need Gin, I'll have to buy some of Ryan Reynolds Aviation Gin then the kid can tell him his Dad bought some.
Using the letter "O" where a number should be used causes so many mistakes. When we were preparing the flight manifest and other really important documents that involved weight and balance for the aircraft, if anyone heard someone use the letter "O" instead of saying zero, they were in big trouble. When people give me a phone number and say "O" instead of zero I always ask why they have a letter in their phone #.
Jimmy, so happy to hear your open house was a success. Did you take any video?
I think I have been roped into helping or more likely running a couple of big hockey tournaments in the new year. I thought I had seen the end of showing up at the rink once the kid packed it in. I am kind of looking forward to it, lots of work but we have such an amazing facility with full medical. Drs. and Physiotherapist right on site in the sports medicine clinic. We have multiple sheets of ice and a dozen really nice change rooms. We are always awash in money as we get so much corporate sponsorship, we never spend it all, we put on really good tournaments with huge spreads of food to keep the kids (and parents) motoring all weekend.

David, I watched a TV show on that Polar Line that was really interesting. But my favourite thing out of Norway is Sissel.

Hi David,
We've only had sleet in Berwick, but a cold wind which by 16:00 (it is now 19:30) has increased to Gale-force. I am worried it will blow tiles off the roof. I have not known winds so strong. There are bits flying around outside, hitting the windows.
On the East Coast Mainline, which runs right past my backyard, all trains from/to Edinburgh - are off, from 16:30 on.
Thanks for the drink Kevin, but on Fridays & Saturdays I always have a bottle of 'Pilsner Urquell' - a Czech lager I first tasted in Prague, many years ago.

SeeYou190 This is frustrating. Walthers has the promo code "DC12OFF" for 12% off today. I tried entering the code several times, and I keep receiving the message it is an invalid code. Any ideas? -Kevin

Any ideas?
Is the promo code DC120FF or could it be DC12OFF, a numeral zero or the letter O?
The first holiday pop format took my favorite radio station before Thanksgiving. I'm perfectly fine with Silent Night or Oh Come All Ye Faithful, but a month of Santa and Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman gets old very fast.

Good morning all.
I survived the feast, and I feel great this morning.
All materials are on hand... time to get started on a big project.
Morning guys. Had a large post typed out and my home network crapped out so when I hit submit it was all lost. Abreviated version-had a good day yesterday. Hope everyone else did too. Indoor Xmas decorating today. I'll check in later if I remember.
See you guys.
Mike
Good morning, diners.
Just a quick drop-in, more driving today. It's cold, but we're heading south!
It's nice because the car radio today will be playing Christmas carols. I never get tired of it.
Hope everyone has a great Friday!

Hey everyone, Busy November weekends here for me.First weekend: Train show in Monroeville PA (Greenberg train show), I was involved with the T-Trak (N scale modules) group. I can explain T-Trak for anyone interested.
The Following weekend(My birthday weekend): Operated prototypically on the Legendary Huntingdon Northern, a layout owned by Bob Prehoda. There is a video of the layout on youtube.Last weekend: I had my first ever open house for my personal layout. It was open due to the NMRA division 2 Mid Central reigon having a division meeting in my town. I ended up getting 16 visitors in one day- more than I was expecting. It was also a lot of positive feedback on said layout. This weekend: My club will start the annual open house season. I cannot wait

Good morning Diners. A bowl of porridge please, Brunhilda.
Another frosty morning. Snow in the hills.

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving to all my friends south of the border!! Now all you have to do is lose all that extra weight that you just put on ("burp") before Christmas gets here. Then you will be able to do it all over again!
We are celebrating my family's Christmas on Saturday. Dianne and I spent most of the day getting everything ready. We try to do as much in advance as possible so that we can relax when our guests are here. That also makes it much easier on our backs!
The turkey turned out beautifully. We tried a new recipe. Instead of filling the bird with dressing, we stuffed it with quartered apples, onions and oranges (credit to Chef Jean-Pierre on YouTube). I also spread copious quantities of herbed butter under and over the skin. The skin turned a beautiful rich brown and the turkey is very flavourful. We will reheat the turkey in broth on Saturday.
One thing we did that made cooking the turkey a lot easier was to invest in a meat thermometer that constantly monitors the internal temperature of the bird. We set it to 165 defrees F and it beeped when the bird got there. No guessing, no dry turkey. They are available with both corded probes and remote probes. Next time I will only go to 160 degrees. There will still be a bit of pink meat next to the backbone but the turkey be more moist.
I hope I haven't put you to sleep after all that great food you have just had!
Cheers!!
richhotrainThat is my beer of choice as well.
I am glad you enjoyed a round!

Happy Thanksgiving to all.
As planned, we went to my great niece's new house for Thanksgiving. This was also a combination house-warming party, and her 30th birthday.
I cannot believe she is 30. I still remember the day she was born. I will always remember her as this beautiful six-year-old little girl.
She really has a great family.
I have a very cute story about how they met. I don't remember if I shared it in here before, but if I have not, it is worth it.
We tried to get a family picture in the sunset. I tried to tell everyone that taking a picture with the sun behind us was a bad idea, but they would have none of that.
This is the picture we got:
It makes me kind of sad that none of our daughters were there for Thanksgiving. However, having a big loving family still makes for a great get-together.
We had a lot of good food and a great time.
Good evening Diners. I'll have a couple of those desserts TF has left please, Zoe.

Don't knock yourself, John. I bet you 100% your family are proud of you.
Tonight - Gammon & Pineapple. Roasted Vegetables and Potato Wedges. Fruit Surprise to follow.
Have a good Thanksgiving.
Good morning everyone.
I am looking forward to a great Thanksgiving get-together, and a lot of good fun. The weather is perfect. High 70s and no humidity or chance of rain. I am going to see some people I have not seen face to face in more than a year and a half. I am actually kind of excited.
Best wished to all.
Good morning diners. I'm sitting here alone; I'm the first one up.
I got my two mile walk in this morning in preparation for eating way too much today.
BigDaddyI prefer my sauerkraut on corn beef, but it is tradition and better than the stinking marshmellows my mother put on sweet potatoes.
I agree! I really think the marshmallows are one of the reasons that I have never liked sweet potatoes. Now, even without them, I still pass on sweet potatoes. While I'm at it, I'll go so far as to say that no food besides dessert should be sweet. My wife's the opposite. She would prefer every food be covered with sugar.
My Saints are playing the Bills tonight, so I have a full day to look forward to.
I hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving. In my old age, I've grown more and more thankful for my family -- my parents who raised me, and my wife and children who are so much more than I deserve.
Good morning Diners. Porridge and a large tea please, Flo. The frost has gone, but the temperature is staying low.

Good morning rail friends!
Just wanted to stop in and wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving
Judy and I are up early prepping food for our feast. This year we're making chocolate covered strawberries that look like little Turkeys for one of the desserts, ...This is a new one on me, I don't know where she comes up with these things I'll have to post a picture for your approval when they're done I guess.
Make sure that recliner of yours is in working order. You know you're going to need it after that high intake of tryptophan after chowing down like big dogs
Make it a great Turkey Day everyone
What a long day. The store is prepped for Black Friday, and now I have the next two days off!
This is not my Thanksgiving.
I invited an old friend to join us. She called my wife with her list of "preferences" ham instead of turkey, rice instead of potatoes and and she was going to make a pumpkin persimmon cake.
I was going to smoke a turkey and we bought some honey baked ham. My wife and SIL decided they would relieve me of the trouble of smoking a turkey, so I could spend more time with my friend and my SIL would make the turkey.
My friend backed out, the 4th time she was suppose to visit us. She claims she has Covid for the second time, with an intervening vaccine.
My SIL is hosting a brunch, so we can't possibly have dinner until the evening. We are having a store bought pumpkin pie. While I am not a fan of pumpkin pie, a store bought pumpkin pie is like a Tyco caboose, compared to a Rapido caboose.
My wife did buy some sauerkraut, a Baltimore tradition, as we had a big German population. I prefer my sauerkraut on corn beef, but it is tradition and better than the stinking marshmellows my mother put on sweet potatoes.
Hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Water Level RouteJust doing prep work for the feast tomorrow. We host and I do most of the cooking, so as much as I can get done ahead of time, I will.
Mike, if you ever get tired of preparing and cooking, when you get older you can do what I do -- go visit the kids and let them do it all.
Howdy guys. Flo, a chocolate malt please.
