I hate to remember what I was making at 22 years old! I was with Sears Canada as a management trainee so it wasn't much.
Congratulations to both your son and his girlfriend! Our son and his wife are doing pretty good too. We are very proud of them.
Perhaps most importantly, we get along really well with them, just like your son does with you.

Well, it was a good hockey game tonight with Montreal winning in overtime. I really don't care who wins but my sister phoned while I was watching and asked if I was cheering for Montreal and I said no, I am cheering for the Canadian team. She goes what do you mean, Las Vegas is in the States. I said yes they are but Las Vegas has 19 Canadians on the team while Montreal only has 16 so they are more Canadian. I really enjoy pulling my sisters' chains.
I really enjoy watching these young athletes play, makes me feel awfully old though.
I never ever nap and I never ever have to get up in the night to pee but I am finding my eyes starting to close earlier than they should. It is most discouraging.

She is a high-performing athlete and she still wants to pursue that along with getting her accounting/business degree, the company is being completely supportive in both. My son has been asked to go on the board of directors for a wing of amateur hockey connected to hockey Canada. It is strictly a volunteer position that stems from the years of volunteer work he has done. It will go a long way towards helping him get a position with a professional sports team.
Good to see more regulars back in the diner.
A new thing called a diesel arrives in Vancouver, time for a Push-A-War as a Tug of war would break the couplers, so they say in the fine print.

No news today, other than I am now one tooth less than a full normal set... Stupid molar #18 fractured so bad they had to pull it. (But at 35, only the first ever tooth I've had pulled. Still even got all my wisdom teeth somehow. Yes, I know - I'm an odd duck still having all my wisdom teeth... But then again, odd ducks get to play with toy trains at 35, so I will be an odd duck anyday!)
Good news is, first, it's the very back tooth on the lower left, so no issues from that now being missing. Second, it was far less painful on my wallet than I expected it to be. (No health or dental insurance through my employer, being classified as Part Time.) Advil & Tylonol are keeping pain to a bare minimum.

Just got home from a Local schools Teacher Retirement party. They clelebrated both last years and this years retirees (didn't have it last year due to the pandemic). One of this years retirees is the Elementary instrumental music teacher. Half of these folks I knew there first year of teaching.... Man I feel old! Anyway I went over and congratulated the Band Guy after the party. He told a story about getting kids interested in playing trombone by having a piece they played feature the trombonists slidling the slide quickly making a sound effect. Ended up with over 30 new trombone players the next year....
I told him about dating a French Horn player in college when I was a freshman. Told him she had a magnificent emboshure but that she held me funny...!!! (you have to be a brass player especially french horn to get it....). I thought he would never catch his breath.....

To hot to sit outside with Dirk Pip, so I an running trains. First time I have ran the layout in 3 months? It was a pain to get them around the layout for the first time! Took 4 to get it done. Added ATF on the rails and using track cleaning cars being pushed by the Engines to get it clean.
Yep bought a car.
It is a 2010 Cadillac DTS one owner and no body repairs. Most of the sevices had been from the dealership it was bought from. While milage is a little higher than I would have like at 121979 seems to be a soild car. Does have a Northstar engine I swore I never buy because of head gaskets problems. But after doing a lot of reading seems GM fixed the problem the right way in 2005 with corse thead head studs.
Not crazy about it being front wheel drive. Lots of Torgue Steer from 275 HP font wheel drive V8. But a good ridding car and the A/C is top notch!

Good Morning All,
I'm way behind catching up posts so I'm blind to what's been happening here. We finally moved to the new house 2 weekends ago - just camping out at first as the movers cancelled (100F at 10 am - I didn't blame them). Last Sunday the major part of the move happened with the crew moving the big stuff I didn't want to tackle. We worked the rest of the day to set up the furniture and arrange stuff like the bedroom and dressers though it was Monday before we could get far enough along to sleep in our own bed instead of on our sons futon (which was light enough that we could move earlier).
After decades living in the city with all the noise and backround light 24/7 having peace and quiet is relaxing. The CFO will be able to set up her telescope on the back porch and actually see things as when the sun goes down it gets dark!
I see Kevin is taking us on a photo trip of his current travels. I will enjoy catching up on that when I get a chance. Kevin your photos are always great. Hope the rest of you are doing well or at least hanging in there. Ciao, J.R.

Decided last night to take vacation next week. Not going anywhere, but not going to work either. I'll take that as a win! Glad I have a job and a boss that allows me to on short notice.
My daughter is playing in a charity soccer tournament this weekend. The money raised is going toward child cancer research. It is in memory of a young man (18?) that just lost his battle with cancer. He was given a few months to live a few weeks ago. Didn't make but a few weeks. He had been dating the same girl for (I think) 6 years and asked her to marry him before he died. It was his one wish before he was gone (not sure if he actually wanted to be married, or wanted to propose). She said yes, but that was all the further it went, so at least she won't end up an 18 year old widow. They were expecting him to make it to see the soccer tournament. It's too bad. I heard they are expecting about 35 teams/350 players to participate in the tournament. Not bad for a town of less than 9,000.

SeeYou190 Heartland Division CB&Q Regarding driving through Memphis, you should consider another route. In Memphis I-40 traffic is diverted to the I-55 bridge which is very congested. Thanks Garry. I have never crossed the Mighty Mississippi on Interstate 20. This sounds like a good enough excuse to try that route. -Kevin

The BIL and SIL were raving a about the food at a local dive. It's mostly a burger joint and I ordered a medium rare hamburger and got a well well done burger with onion rings that looked like skinny donuts and didn't taste like any onion rings I had ever had before. My wife ordered hot dogs and they were just boiled hotdogs and maybe Orieda french fries.
Our waitress would have been cute except for the 3 nose rings and 4 sleeves of tattoos.
I got my backdrop painted, at least a start. I figured i had better slap some paint on it so I wouldn't have problems painting it behind a bridge.
I was going to link a video is for Ed. It was a Virtual Railfan youtube video of the car Catalpa Falls. They took it down. Ed I will send you a pm This isn't nearly as good but it will have to do. They have 1949 Life and Newsweek magazines.
If I was 20 years younger and several million dollars richer I would have my own Private Varnish. If reincarnation is real,....maybe next time around.

Back when I worked for the Highway Department the workers hung from the bridge with no harness to tighten the bolts. I would follow them with a torque wrench and check the tightness of the bolts. Again no harness and we would just stand on the web to do the work.

Good evening diners. Today we are in Lovell, Wyoming.
I started this day with a breakfast at a local diner. I was not very hungry, so I ordered the "hobo" special, the least expensive breakfast on the menu. IT WAS HUGE!
This thing is toast topped with hash broiwns, bacon, ham, two eggs, and smothered in gravy.
We drove into Montana to see the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation area. This is a beautiful place. There is a North end and a South end. The South end is accessed from Wyoming. That is where we are.
This is not as overwelming as the Grand Canyon, but there was almost no one else here. It was so peaceful, and I just could relax and take it all in.
As usual, the rest of the scenery in the park around the canyon is also magnificent. These landscapes were what we saw today.
In part of the park they have recreated the ranch of journalist Caroline Lockhart. This was fascinating to wander around.
It is a 2 mile hike to reach the ranch. There was absolutely no one else there, and we spent about two hours there just wandering about and being taken back in time.
There was no noise at all other than the birds and the noises we made. What an experience.
Some of the buildings have interiors that you can walk around and explore as well. There were all kinds of old things scattered about to add to the old-time atmosphere.
There were no ropes or barricades. All the stuff could be touched and explored.
This was worth the hike.
Previously on this trip I found the TriForce. Now I have located Lon Lon Ranch, I wish I had an ocarina so I could call for Epona. We could use the ride back to the car.
The park guide said we would see wild mustangs throughout the area. We saw none. However, we did see this freaky looking hybrid demon-goat!
The town of Lovell, Wyoming is lovely. It is filled with small town charm.
The Cetco Mine is the only place I saw any railroad activity at all today.
We do not have trucks like this monster back in the Southeast!
This is the cute little motel we are staying in. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the room is comfortable and spotlessly clean. We don't need anything else. I am looking forward to a good night of sleep this evening.
Tomorrow we will go back into Yellowstone National Park. Take care!
