Good Morning All,

I'll have a regular and blueberry pancakes with maple syrup and a side of link sausage please Zoe.  Trucks are all loaded and the last two leave today (West Palm starts Thursday). Got my Focus repaired and back on the road though I had to order a pair of rear tires for it as the previous broken sway bar link wiped them out which works not well on snow or wet. At least now I can take a breath.

Bear, that is the burger I remember in New Zealand! Admit it though it was a pic of the super deluxe version. We usually just got 1 egg, one slice of beet, no tomato, etc. Travis who is one of our drivers and the instigator of the trips to Oz and NZed is a committed carnivore and he would just take all the extra stuff off and eat just a hamburger and bun. He missed all the best stuff. Wink

We are getting closer to a move I guess. Contracts are signed and we need to schedule a house inspection now. We only looked at the house the one time but I'm pretty sure it will go smoothly. Oddities include the house number is the same as our present one and both back up to playing fields. Additionally I grew up for the most part in Milford, Ct and the house is in New Milford. About 10 more minutes to w..k but at least 20 minutes closer to my oldest and his family. And it is what swmbo wants. The airport there is grass so I am thinking the Cessna won't be moving any time soon though this puts it 30 minutes away.

Good to see you improving Dave. i think the key to all this surgery stuff is to religiously do the rehab. Like Brent I kept active after my foot was crushed moving about in a "moon boot" and later after the MCL operation I did therapy on schedule and continued on my own long after the insurance quit.

Time to get in the back and start cleaning up the disaster from the last few days. Ciao, J.R.

Good morning

I had a good time in St Cloud taping and mudding with my buddy Blaine in his brother's basement.  It isn't like w**k working with him.  The guy's a card and we're always laughing when we're together.

Years ago we always helped each other out on each others bigger projects, hours for hours.  We always talked about starting an addition-remodeling business together called Clown Construction.  We would sub out all the work so we didn't have to work anymore and come to the job site dressed like clowns for a couple hours for the kids to enjoy.  You can charge an extra fee for that kind of service but we never did it.  We don't work together too often anymore but when we do, periodically one of us yells out, Clown Construction! Laugh

The kitchen looks really nice Brent!  I bet you're glad you finally have that beautiful Chow Pallas finishedYes  I am happy for you and I bet you're glad to be done with that on-going mess.  Looks Great!

I'm happy to hear your doing better Dave.  I wish you continued Improvement and hope that achilles tendon surgery goes well for you.  You should look into that newer PRP treatment for your knees. It's a non-invasive alternative to surgery that worked very well for me.  I can't say nothing but good about it.  I've been battling terrible knee pain in my right surgical knee for years.  After I had my PRP procedure I haven't had problems with pain anymore, except for when the weather changes abruptly.  My mechanic is the one that told me about it as he had carpal tunnel and extreme pain in his wrist from twisting wrenches all his life.  All I have to say is I'm glad he told me about it.

The display shelves look really nice Kevin.  Great JobYes  The weather man beat you to it this morning as he told us it's going to be a beautiful 75° in Florida today.  Our high is -17 with a 30 below wind chillSad  A Tropical Heatwave in the upper teens, lower 20s is predicted by next weekendBig Smile  Time to put a light flannel on and start enjoying outside again.

Thanks for the continued great job of hosting the Diner this month EdYes  Lots of pictures and videos to enjoy,  Appreciated!  The host with the most and I'm glad to be sitting on the end of my booth hereSmile

That sure looks like one heck of a tasty burger Bear!  I'll take two as I've been known to be a Chowhound at times.  Today is one of those daysDinner  Thanks!  .......P.S.  Sure liked the Corsair and the guy on the donkey fixing it.  That's my favorite plane of all times and are you sure that guy on the donkey wasn't from Pappy's Squadron?

I have to take Judy the w**k this morning and then I think I'm going to get back to my bridge project today.

With some talk of New Orleans and Mardi Gras, I had to post Frosty the Mardi Gras Snowman.  Judy and I had fun making him some time ago.

We kept all our prized beads through the years.  Not long after we made the Snowman we took our garbage bag of cheesy beads down to the Saint Paul, Saint Patrick's Day Parade.  We threw them about to the people in the crowds.  It's amazing how people go nuts over beads.  We were treated like rock stars that day!

Have a great day gentlemenWink

Good morning all.   The forecast for today is 9 degrees C.   It is not.  It is just on freezing.

Kevin.   Great work done on the house.

Bear.   That is some burger.

I shall run a few trains today and also make some more scenery.

Coffee  Coffee time.

Kevin,

The display shelves look great! When I built my office/workbench area years ago I incorporated a recessed area into the back wall for precisely the same purpose. Alas, I haven't finished it. Maybe some day.

Kevin, you can scratch West Virginia off the list of states visited. The PRR "Panhandle" route we arrived in Pittsburgh on was named for the little jag of WV we passed through yesterday.

West Virginia has been shaded in.

That look like something I need to enjoy at some time. Wow... it looks delicious.

Today I took the protective covering off of the floor in the guest bedroom. The tile has been exposed for the first time in months.

Almost done.

The new display shelves look good, and they are perfectly sized for the display of prized model trains.

Tomorrow I will move everything out of the dining room into the guest bedroom, then I can finish the dining room walls and get another room done!

The Kiwiburger looks delicious! Thanks Bear! I think I'd have to attack that with a knife and fork, or maybe a chainsaw and a forklift!!

All of our restaurants are still restricted to take out only. They will be able to have people dine in starting next Tuesday. We will stick to take out but we still leave big tips as we have always done when dining in. The restaurant people work far too hard for long hours for not enough money so sharing our small assets is only fair.

Cheers!!

 Afternoon Diners!

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk and Robbie a dog treat.

Boy it is cold by our standerds! It is 5 degees F with a 18 MPH Wind. Ick! I have to walk Dirk yet again, need some Chestnuts Warmers for this one.

Wife spent the day with our daughter. As we all know today is Valentine's Day and Feb 15th is my wifes 70 th birthday. We have snow coming so my daughter too celebrate both today.

Credit Score Got tired of screwing around with my debit by $10.00 to $20.00 a time. Made a larger payment on my Discover card so now my total CC debit I owe is $500.00. Next Credit Karma report should be 772. 2 years ago I was at 653 which is sort of good.

Time to walk Dirk and the snow is falling.

Later, Ken and Dirk say's "Me loves the snow Daddy, me make it's yellow and brown! Woof, Woof!"

Ed ... Thanks for continuing the February journey.

We are anxious to get home but tomorrow will not be the day. We would be driving through freezing rain in northern Alabama and snow in Tennessee and Kentucky.  Tuesday looks like a much better option. Very little precipitation is forecasted  then. So, Tuesday looks like travel day.

Good afternoon

Just got back into town from Saint Cloud a bit ago.  Thought I'd stop in to say Hi to my Railroad Buds!  Looks like I have some Catch-up reading to do since Wednesday.

Gave it a once-over,  sure do like the bridges!  Especially that high, half built steel Trestle Ed.  I have a lot of respect for the guys that build structures like that.  I like looking up at them but never liked looking down.  I would be the guy gathering the rest of the parts from The Big Box to put that Erector Set togetherLaugh  I would be more than happy to anchor the first of the up-rights to the footings but then the rest of the guys could take it from thereLaugh

I was up with a carpenter friend of mine taping and mudding his brothers basement.  Slinging mud by day and some beers at nightWhistling

I had just turned on Daytona 500 getting ready to enjoy some Nap Car as I needed oneSleep  No rest for the wicked as 16 cars are out of commission alreadyTongue Tied  I'm glad no one was hurt and it was a little early in the race for demolition derby and four wheeling already.

Happy Valentine's Day all.  I'm making T-Bones for Judy and I tonightDinner  I'll tell you when to grab a plate! Smile, Wink & Grin  Now back to my couch and Nap Car, although it's raining hard in Daytona right now.

Have a great evening allWink  I'll catch up with you laterYes

Welcome back Steven!

What have you guys done to the forums this morning?  Confused  Laugh

I could get to the home page right away, but after clicking on forums, it just kept timing out!

Gave me some time to spend on another forum, just down the street, and another one, over on the other side of town.

That guy on the donkey fixin the plane looks like Clint Eastwood.

It's been a great Ride Ed !  Yes  Looks like I missed Pittsburgh.  Wayyyyyy back in the day, I drove a semi from Milwaukee to Pittsburgh and back.  I remember along the river at night.

Spent the night in the truck, waiting to pick up the return load.  THAT was an interesting night!  Mischief

Taught me one thing.  Get back to my trowels!  OTR truck driving was NOT for me.

Stay warm!  Uhm, Kevin....I hope your A/C breaks down!  Laugh

Brent, the kitchen looks great.  It will be nice to have all the remodelling work finished.

Thanks, John, we are really happy with it.

It is 0c and still snowing, we are going out for a long walk through the forest with the dogs, I just ate breakfast to help keep me warm, usually, I don't eat until 1500hrs and then again at 1800hrs unless I am about to expend lots of energy.

I just got eleven PMs today, and they say the Post Office is slow, these go back a few weeks.Tongue Tied I tried to answer but my replies timed out. My apologies to those still waiting.

Time to find some winter clothes and get the moths out.

All the best to all.

Good Morning,

Still cold here and won't be much better for the rest of the week. The weatherman lied again.

John, your weather isn't much better than ours. We are expecting a high of -13F and  low of -27 tonight but no snow. In fact we have had very little this winter.

I like Gary Larson too and have several of his books. We also have a large book of New Yorker magazine cartoons. Many are really good.

Not sure what I will do today. We need more bird seed but I think we can hold out until tomorrow.

We talk a lot about the weather in the diner.

I've said before that those of you in Canada aren't impressed, but here is our weather forecast for today.  I don't know how you guys do it.

In Nebraska, when we start hitting -20°F (-29°C) and below, it's major news here.  We had -22°F the other night.

I have to go out now and clear the driveway again -- more snow last night.  We don't get the amounts like the lake-effect snows around the Great Lakes, but we are approaching 50 inches total, which is unusual for us.

Bear,

320 is a prodigious number.  Good on ya.

The Gary Larson gene is indeed warped. So much so that it won't lie flat on the chromosome (which is a "Y", of course).

Having retired 26 years ago, his "Far Side" cartoon books are still being published.  I guess that says a lot.

Ya know, there must exist somewhere a full collection of BearToons.  Granted, some might leave some head-scratching for lack of context, but there'd be a sea of gold-star stand-alones. I suspect that you carry a Gary Larson gene or two

Gidday John, your comment caused me to have a look and I’m surprised to find 320 items in the Beartoons file. I’m not sure if the Gary Larson gene contains a warped sense of humour, but I’m happy as long as I can get someone to smile.
I’d have to check but I think most of them would require context but here’s one that I think doesn’t...

I’ve been lucky in that putting names to faces and remembering them hasn’t been too bad, though now, especially if there is a crowd, I’m introduced to, I struggle. On a personal basis, I’ve been thinking of getting my name tattooed on the inside of my left arm as a reminder, but have decided not to, as I’m afraid that one day I’ll look and wonder who on earth that person is!!!Wink LaughLaugh

Ed, that is an amazing 3 rail layout.

I have been removing tape in the spare bedroom from around the electrical boxes, and I pulled up a big chunk of the new paint, about the size of a quarter.

Bang Head

I have read so many things about the right ways to de-tape when you are done painting, but I always seem to have a problem along the way.

How about another video of some sharp O scale 3 rail Pennsy action?

I'm just enamored with the overall detail and scope of this layout.

And with your Sunday Morning coffee — some vintage Pennsy trains:

Howdy everybody.

I am still posting with a cell phone while visiting in Florida Panhandle.

We are deciding when to return home to western Kentucky with consideration for weather conditions and possibly visiting relatives in Alabama on the way.

David North  Brit , the English egg and bacon pie sounds good.

Everybody, have a good evening.

should have already been here. Saturday may need to be the day of choice for you as we are set to be slammed for the next five to six days.

Sunday night to tuesday storm showing possible 12+ inches , then more we Thursday storm with ice more to southeast. So if you can stay put for a bit you may want to.  I may have to camp out at work as I am on call for the hospital.

I do have two questions. First, what does the "hammerhead" designator for this RS3 refer to? And second, where can I find a listing of the numbers that you use in your posts? I seem to recall a post from you some years ago that explained what they meant and where they come from. Think then to write them down? Nah.

Hi John!  The RS-3m is a Hammerhead because of an added steam generator it has allowing it to be used in passenger service.  Notice the high hood on the end.  You can read a lot more about her here: http://www.rgvrrm.org/about/railroad/lv211/

The numbers I add at the end of my posts (always use 73, which means highest or best regards) are telegraph codes.  Kinda like a shorthand or abbreviation for commonly used messages. https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2014/01/88-or-how-telegraphers-coded-love-and-kisses/282850/

Thanks, Ray!

For some reason this photo reminded me of Bear.Laugh

May be an image of outdoors

I have some issues with your statement Batman!!

(1) the chap depicted is far too small to be the Bear.
(2) the chap is better looking than the Bear.
(3) the donkey would be too small to support the Bear. (The Bear tries to be nice to ladies, small children, and animals.)
(4) the spanner is not nearly big enough, besides the Bear prefers BIG Hammers!!

This is more the Bears style!!!

Old #211 is my favorite loco at the museum as I watched her work a few times in the Sayre PA LV yard many years ago. She, to many people just doesn't sound right being an ALCO locomotive with an EMD 567B prime mover in her.  We don't run her nearly enough these days as our main work horse is a GE 80 tonner (old US Army) now.  Much less expensive to run and starts her twin diesels easily (basically just diesel truck engines) and runs well with everything we pull behind her.

Today we have the day to spend around the environs of New Orleans. A little early for Mardi Gras but we can still party like it's Monday! Too bad Young Stephen isn't around to give us a tour.

Thanks for the update! Stop by more often Yes
