All kidding aside, really. They placed smudge pots, or something, in the stacks of the dead locos to make them look ALIVE

Water Level Route Track fiddler Don't you just hate that with those preppy whoever they are in their invincible four-wheel drives Well, some people don't even need four-wheel drive to be that stupid. Two stories for you. Once at college a bad winter storm came through closing down much of the city (Grand Rapids, MI). Some friends and I got together at a nearby restaurant that was still open for lunch. Some of the workers there were complaining about how slow people were driving with one genius saying he could go 55 no problem in this stuff. As we all sat there thinking "dummy with a four wheel drive", we watched him walk out of the restaurant and hop into....a Plymouth Horizon. Another adventure I had was driving home immediately following an winter storm that came through. plenty of ice followed by snow. Traffic on the freeway was doing about 30 and that was pushing it. Then in my mirror I can see some idiot in a Grand Prix passing people and moving at a pretty serious clip. Then one of the times he went to pass again, his car kept on moving to the left, down into the median where he met a turnaround for service vehicles. All you saw was a BIG blast of snow sort of explode in the air, headlights shine toward the sky, headlights bury themselves in the snow, and somehow he kept moving right back onto the freeway and tucked himself inline with the rest of us at 30 mph. I can't imagine the damage done to that car. Thoughts and prayers to those that need it. Work has kept me swamped lately, so I'm not up to date on the goings-on of the diner. Hope everyone is staying safe and warm. Later fellas!

Yep I hear ya Mike!
I could continue with the stories untill the cows came home I'll tell ya. If they make it across the road with the chicken
Sometimes it gets to the point where I get into my truck after cleaning it off to go out into the snow storm. After I warm up the vehicle and make sure the windshields clear I feel like something's missing. But I know better, there is nothing missing.
It still feels like something is missing doesn't even make sense. But it does still feel that way. I think it's the fact that I know I'm going to go join in with a bunch of idiots, out on the road way.
I almost feel like I should have some kind of life jacket on with the kill switch line that you have for your safety in one of those high speed snakey trick boats
I still to this day do not know what that feeling is, so that must be what it is. It does make sense as I would never drive in nothing but a full size truck. If I did have to drive in a little car, I would have a puffy suit on like the Michelin Man

I went there, not knowing it was closed. There was not gate, I just walked right in and peered in windows. Fortunately I was not a vandal or souvenier hunter.
The owner finally sold the RR and they are getting it running again.
Meanwhile down the road is Strasburg. You won't see anything tonight, they put the engine to bed. Tune in tomorrow

Good evening —
Still in central Pennsylvania, time for another visit to the East Broad Top Railroad & Coal Co.
THIS is a work of art!
No Hi-Vis green safety vests, no backup diesel in tow. Just a beautiful show of steam and scenery. I hope I'm able to visit the EBT again soon.
This is one of my early visits,

Good Afternoon,
Thanks for the kind thoughts. I'm usually a positive guy but don't feel that way now. This situation is just grinding me down.
Kevin, your house is looking great. We have a lot of tile floors that were put in by the previous owner 32 years ago. They look like new, Actually they are warm in winter as the heat blows on them and they get warm. I can relate regarding backs. I hurt mine a few weeks ago putting my socks on. It is from an injury that happened when I was 30. Doc told me then that it would lkely give me problems and he was right.
Time for a nice cup of Yorkshire Gold, a really good tea. Think I'll have a cinammon bun with it too.

I now retract labeling you as crazy. Like I said before, it was a compliment coming from me but apparently you are not crazy.
After reading your statement in your last post, you summed up all your broken bones and things that were fixed through your life.
I now categorize you in a comparison with Evel Knievel Now you're not thought of as crazy anymore
That's better. I feel better too. Now that we cleared the air

On a more serious note. Your story of you riding the horse and encountering the bear, ....Wow!

Good morning from the Beautiful West Coast where it is a sunny 8c.
Just taking a break from ripping up the laundry room floor as the kid has an important meeting and needs quiet.
Backs are just a bad design, I put mine out two or three times where I had to crawl on hands and knees to the bathroom and I don't know how I hurt it. I remember the Canucks were in the playoffs and one of our star players put his back out by bending over and picking up a piece of toast off the floor that his daughter dropped from the high chair. He missed a lot of games.
hon30critter Whenever I see pictures of natural beauty my heart is immediately calmed.
Me too Dave, I am not a crowds person at all. Cruise ships, Disneyland, big cities I am chomping at the bit to get out of those places. I would rather be out in the wilds or plummeting down a ski hill or canoeing or rafting down a river. Sitting on rides in a theme part after waiting in line with a gazillion screaming people is not for me, I want to do the driving and be responsible for the final outcome, that is where the adrenalin rush comes from. I have never found even the most thrilling ride comes close to the outdoor activities I love, you know there is no risk involved in getting on Space Mountain. Doing loops on a roller coaster doesn't quite measure up to doing loops and rolls in an aeroplane or glider.
I do like to relax as well, as long as there are things to do if I get restless. I took one trip in Australia on a 50' sailboat through the Whitsunday Islands, it was the most relaxing trip I ever took. I was quite happy watching the world go by and could throw a tank on and go for a dive whenever I felt like it. We also would go ashore and hike through remote jungles to some amazing spots. It was only the six of us and it felt like we were the only ones on the planet sometimes, especially at night when the stars showed up.
TF, People have called me crazy my whole life but also knew no one took safety more seriously than I did. I have had lots of injuries and broken things nothing that could not be repaired. I was at a full gallop on a horse once going along a mountain road when a bear came out in front of us and the horse put on the brakes and I kept going. I got a concussion and broke two vertebrae in my neck. I was lucky it was not worse. I have had a broken leg, ankles, ribs, shoulder and an endless list of soft tissue injuries. I missed very little work though, the Government was very accommodating.
Just got the all-clear from the kid, so back to work.
All the best to all.

Good evening all. A good day weatherwise today.
I didn't do any baking as originally planned as our Son and Grandson paid us a visit with a few groceries. So took it easy.
Doing a zoom meeting with my Ocean Liner colleagues this evening, so early dinner. Sweet & Sticky Pork with Rice & Vegetables.
Stay Safe everyone.
I work tonight. In Lancaster County PA we have fat, or shrove, Tuesday, and we have fasnachts which are a bit like donuts without holes in the middle. The idea is to use up the last up the last of the bread dough and lard or butter before the six weeks before Easter.
https://lancasterpa.com/blog/happenings/what-is-fasnacht-day/ I'm not much for fasnachts but did have a donut earlier today.
I went ahead and started lettering my Sunset N5b cabin car and wouldn't you know it, I messed up one tiny decal, but did get one side completely done. I think when I get paid next I'll order another decal set. It feels like a lot to spend for just one decal, but I want to it to be right and done. And I don't wish to cut and splice other decals on the set to make the one I need as they're so tiny. Paying for another set would be worth it to me.

Track fiddlerI couldn't help but notice that beautiful wooden corner hutch. I zoomed in on that. I really like that corner hutch.
That was made by Dyrlund back in the 1960s. The original plan for the guest bedroom was to find all teak furniture for that room.
Unfortunately, the hutch has a gouge in it now. I don't know how it happened, but it is a shame.
We bought it in an Antique Store in Georgia a couple of years ago.

Good morning
I pulled a Kevin last night
I can't even remember the last time I was up till after 3:00 in the morning. Judy worked a five day weekend and I was out of town mudding a basement till Sunday after noon.
We were both tired out on Valentines Day so it was like it never happened. Today is Judy's day off so last night we enjoyed our steaks, all the finger food and festive cheer we had prepared for. The clock seems to spin faster when your enjoying things like that.
It was the first time I can remember that I slept till 11:00 too. Well, ...It was a fun night!
In the confusion I forgot to compliment you on all your beautiful work on your house Kevin. You've been working hard and it shows. Besides admiring all your hard efforts on the Nice remodeling you did! I couldn't help but notice that beautiful wooden corner hutch. I zoomed in on that. I really like that corner hutch
Well I hope your strained muscles feel better today Kevin. You need to take a break and kick back for a while
Happy Mardi Gras everyone! Put your beads on and have a wonderful day!
hon30critterI love all the 'The World is a Beautiful Place' pictures. Whenever I see pictures of natural beauty my heart is immediately calmed. Please keep it up.
Track fiddlerOh you like those too Dave I love Kevin's "The world is a beautiful place" too.
Thank you guys. I have taken thousands of pictures as I travelled. This seems like a good way to share them.
Photography, wargaming, and model railroading are my three hobbies.
I am as good at photography as I want to be, but I am continuously learning, and I hope I am getting better.
The pictures are being shared in random order, so you get the good and some of the bad. Many are similar, but I will try not to duplicate. Pictures from some other photographers that I saved might accidentally be mixed in, but I believe that 99% of them were taken by me.
hon30critterWe don't have nearly as much tile floor as you have. We only have tile in the front and lower foyers and the bathrooms.
My entire house is done in the same off-white tile except for two interior rooms. The train room will have a different tile, and the master bedroom will be carpetted. The garage has porcelain gray tile, and the lanai will have travertine tile.
Tile seems to make for a cooler house, and the Roomba cleans it very easily.
Track fiddlerAge doesn't have anything to do with it. I remember when I was in my early twenties, It was early in the morning and I slung a 25 horse Johnson off the dock to the back of a boat. Yikes, ...The same thing happened back then too.
The first time I remember pulling a muscle in my back was in my mid twenties. I was installing a torque converter into an Allison HT705 transmission and Had a bad pain when I leaned over that took me out for a week.
NorthBrit Lifting this. Moving that. Ouch! Had you started on the train room first ---
If I had started with the train room, I would be building a layout by now, and I would have a very unhappy spouse.
GMTRacingThose $20.00 dollies at the big box stores probably look pretty good about now, no? I keep a hand truck and some small ratchet straps about the house.
I have two 1,000 pound capacity flatbed furniture dollies that I used to move the toilets around the house.
The back started hurting when I tried to put that heavy Kohler toilet in place over the closet flange in the tiny 1/2 bath. It actually started with a leg cramp, and I could not stand up and walk it off.
GMTRacingI assume with all the tile in your house you don't need to fret too much about the termites right?
The house is concrete block on a cement slab with ceramic tile, so not much for subterrainean termites to munch on. Flying termites getting into the "attic" and eating the roof trusses is a bigger concern down here.
Good morning, diners. Black coffee, Bacon, coffee, eggs, and coffee, please.
Kevin, that's bad news. Backs don't heal up overnight, either. Maybe it's your sign to take it easy for a while. If it's any consolation, the train room looks great, and a bathroom in there, no matter how small, is one of the best things to have. Put in a small refrigerator, a microwave, and you could stay in there indefinitely.
JR, I'm tired just thinking about your move. Hope it continues to go smoothly. Have they finished the inspection on your new house?
MLC and Garry, we have a sister in Bowling Green, Kentucky. She said they were doing OK, but they are retired and don't go out anyway. They did lose power for a while. I love Bowling Green. That is a beautiful part of the country.
Well, in spite of everything, it's still Mardi Gras! Hope everyone has a good day. It's 8:00 a.m. on Fat Tuesday -- that means it's time to start the first beer of the day! I actually used to do that in my younger days.
This picture is of King Rex toasting the city. In the 1980s, we moved downtown to a hotel for the week of Mardi Gras, and this was in front of the hotel on St. Charles Ave. My wife is in the plaid shirt -- she's on my shoulders getting a good view.
My wife and kids on a ladder on the neutral ground in 1985 during the Mid-City parade:
Tuesday night at midnight, the police clear Bourbon Street by starting at the the downriver side and slowly riding their horses up the street towards Canal. You get out of the way or you'll get out of the way with their help. Tomorrow morning, everyone goes to church, and begins 40 days of living without certain foods or drinks.
I miss it.

Good Morning All,
39F this morning with a steady drizzle and low ceiling. I'll have a regular and a blueberry muffin toasted with butter please Zoe.
All the trucks seem to have made made it south of DC without incident so that is good. I always emphasize that it is better to get there safely than on time but as has been mentioned it is not always possible to deal with all the others. The rallye truck footage was a good example as are the numerous photos in the news of people hoofing it with their all weather tired cars stuck on the hill in the backround. Driving semis and other rigs it is always a challenge to keep distance in front of you as people seem to regard space in front of a truck as an invitation to "dive in".
Still packing thing up in prepartation for moving. I think we are about to the point where a POD would be in order so we can so this all logically.
Kevin, Those $20.00 dollies at the big box stores probably look pretty good about now, no? I keep a hand truck and some small ratchet straps about the house for all the heavy stuff as well but it still doesn't get you out of the woods does it. I assume with all the tile in your house you don't need to fret too much about the termites right? There is a massive old 4/5 story abandoned building next to the hotel we stay at in Sebring that is infested and supposedly can't be torn down or rehabilitated safely so it just sits there decade after decade while they wait for it to collapse of it's own weight. hope you feel better soon and can get back to it at the house. As has been said, getting old is not for sissies.
All for now. I have stuff to catch up on. Ciao, J.R.

Brr just brrr 3F here this morning, It does not get 3 here very often.
Had to dig my car out again as it had snowed more after I got home from work last night and the snow plow filled the end of the driveway. I did not think it was going to start but it did. it moaned and cranked right over. today's high I think is 7. More winter stuff coming tomorrow. someone shut the freezer door please.
talking about the clowns and their 4wd. they were always the people who passed you in the unplowed lane on the interstate, then a few miles ahead you waved at them as you passed where they spun out off the road.

That's the problem Kevin, you stopped.
I know from experience when you haven't worked hard for a while you need to do some freaky yoga stretch out exercises before you work hard again.
I remember one morning when it wasn't even that long since I worked hard I lifted two six-gallon buckets of saltwater from my filtration system in the basement and carried them up the stairs for my fish aquarium in the wall.
Man I pulled a muscle in my back fiercely that morning that knocked me out for 5 days.
I learned after that you need to take your time and stretch out before you lug heavy things.
Age doesn't have anything to do with it. I remember when I was in my early twenties, It was early in the morning and I slung a 25 horse Johnson off the dock to the back of a boat. Yikes, ...The same thing happened back then too.
Or when you're already tired in the evening and you strain too hard after the push of the day.
I'm sorry that happened to you Kevin and I hope you snap back into shape very soon here my Friend
SeeYou190When setting the toilet in place in the 1/2 bath, I had a leg cramp, and I could not stand up. Then, somehow, I pulled a back muscle. Now my back is hurting badly, worse than it has since I stopped heavy work 12 years ago.
Geez Kevin! Stop busting yourself up will ya! You sound like me!!!
Your house renovations are coming along very nicely! Keep up the good work!
We don't have nearly as much tile floor as you have. We only have tile in the front and lower foyers and the bathrooms. Our rec room, stairs and landings are carpeted and the rest is engineered hardwood. Works for us!
Here's wishing you a speedy recovery! Give yourself a couple of days off if you can, and then take things slowly!
Cheers!!

Hi everyone. I have been too busy for the last few days to keep up with everything on the forums.
Shuffling toilets about today almost killed me.
I moved the good Kohler toilet from the master bedroom to the new 1/2 bath in the guest bedroom, and I installed a new el-cheapo toilet in the master bathroom temporarily until that space becomes a train room.
When setting the toilet in place in the 1/2 bath, I had a leg cramp, and I could not stand up. Then, somehow, I pulled a back muscle. Now my back is hurting badly, worse than it has since I stopped heavy work 12 years ago.
Anyway, I got all the doors in place, and the guest bedroom is done.
This tiny bathroom is only 46 inches by 52 inches!
The dining room is next on the work list, so I moved the dining room table into the guest bedroom for the time being.
Done: Living Room, Kitchen, Master Bathroom, Garage, Guest Bedroom, 1/2 Bathroom.
In process: Lanai, Dining Room, Master Suite
Not started: Train room.
I am getting there, much slower than planned, but it is moving in the right direction.
I have an appointment with the dentist tomorrow for a teeth cleaning. Hopefully this will be a quick one, it has only been three months since my last cleaning.
