Evenin' folks!

Been a nice day here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS as well.  High was 68°F and it was beautiful out there running a 5k!  Had a Podiatrist appt. This afternoon which amounted to us talking about our cars while he worked on my feet.  He just bought a Tesla Model Y (https://www.tesla.com/modely).  He got the top model in the Y and we spent much of the appt. discussing driving them......  He is still learning and will be for a while.  They ARE different, but FUN!

I'm having a small (4oz) steak from the grill and stir fried vegetables (zucchini, celery, onionb, and mushrooms) for supper tonight.  Likely will have a small glass of meade to wash it down and then a bowl of ice cream fro dessert.

Cathc you all later!

Sounds like you're day was as beautiful as mine in a lot of places todayYes

The chicken turned out perfect, I nailed it

A slow cook after searing high on the grate.  Tender and juicy, any longer on the Kingsford and it could have been a hockey puck.  Kingsford has a tough act to follow with chicken

I'm glad everybody else had a great day too gentlemanYes

Upper sixties here in Delaware.  We had a pair of monster rib-eyes last night, so I think tonight will be a leftover smorgasbord to clear out the remains of several delicious dinners from the fridge.  Still a lot of meat on those rib-eyes, so they'll be the main course.

Good evening —

Gorgeous weather here in NE Ohio, too Cool

I got my dentist cleaning and x-rays out of the way this afternoon. I'm sticking around railroad forum and train sites to avoid the "news cycle" which is an endless stream of babble-de-goop Dead

Sure glad I have my model railroad hobby Big Smile

Good to see you here, Rob, TF, Mr. B, Ray, CNCharlie, John. Glad you're back on the air-waves, Kevin! And to all the folks I missed.

I recall building my first Pentium computer. I bought the chip, held in the palm of my hand while shelling out $800 with my other hand. Memory was $150 per megabyte back then and a 100 Mb hard drive was HUGE "You'll never need more storage than that" the dealer told me.

The first CD drive I bought was $450 and it was read-only! Oh, the good old days of PCs. Setting up a modem was an all day affair.

Here's a little gem:

GVR, Glenbrook, New Zealand, 2004 by Center for Railroad Photography & Art, on Flickr

Look at the tread on those pilot wheels. Kind of looks like they scaled them up from N scale? That's a neat-looking jib crane in the background, too.

Cheers, Ed

Think we now have everything needed to build our two 4x8 layouts. Cool! Heading down to the train room shortly. Just waiting on hay delivery first.

That sounds way good Rob

As far as Judy and I are concerned, it's 77 degrees out

P.S.   What the hay?  The only thing I remember about the hay delivery Rob was to winterize the septic tank up at the resort.  If you don't mind me asking, is that what it is?

Good Afternoon,

Sitting outside with Robbie right now as it is at least 60F.

Bugs sure like my wife but she has an allergic reaction to many. On our 2016 trip to Africa she had a major reaction to sand flea bites while we were in the Okovango Delta. Her legs were swollen and painful.

It was Johnboy's birthday yesterday. Hope he had a good one.

Mr B,  John

I've noticed bugs favoring Judy over me.  I think its perhaps thier girly girl shampoo and perfumes may attract them more.

For me.  It seems when we're eating healthy the bugs don't bug us as much.  I think it's because we use onions and garlic in almost all our cooking.

Vampires don't like garlic must have came from somewhere.  There's no such thing as vampires but those darn bugs want to suck your bloodLaughWhistling

They attack the GF mercilessly, but I seldom get bit at all.

My wife seems to attract biting insects 25 more frequently that I do. I have no idea why this is.

Same situation here.  My wife believes because she eats a lot of sugar, the bugs bite her more.

I have a friend who is an avid fisherman who believes eating a lot of dill pickles makes him smell unattractive to mosquitoes.  Of course, he also drinks lots of whiskey while fishing, so there's that.

There is another bug called a "Sand Flea" that is nasty on the beaches. It might be the same thing as a Sand Midge with just a different slang name. Not sure.

We have a version of that here.  It looks like some kind of armored gnat that hatches out of the grass in sandy soil areas.  The things are nasty and will attack you in swarms and on beaches here too.  If I would slap one on my arm it was almost like they would laugh at you and just come back for more.

Those are the worst!

A big thing up here is everybody uses Avon Skin So Soft.  It seems to work. I'd rather use it because normal bug spray makes my skin feel like it's slightly burning,  don't like that!  Must be the deet

I'd rather smell like baby powder and be comfortable than being bit by a bunch of bugs or my skin burning

Just curious, is that Florida Glass sturdy enough to protect against Pet Paws as well?

Nope... my niece could tell you all about that!

When we spent time on the beaches in Florida and Alabama, the no-see-ums were just that -- they were so tiny you couldn't see them, but you could feel the bite.

I remember my wife covered us with Johnson's Baby Lotion, and that seemed to be the only thing that worked.

That's cool Kevin

A lot of times up here you see a thicker darker screen that's pet safe on the lower portion.

Just curious, is that Florida Glass sturdy enough to protect against Pet Paws as well?

We live on a tidal marsh, so bugs are always a problem here.  They attack the GF mercilessly, but I seldom get bit at all.  I figure it's all the old man pills I take.  Maybe the diabetes meds drop my blood sugar enough that my sweat isn't sweet enough for them.

You are right that the screens manufactured up here have too big of holes

We also have another product called "Florida Glass" which probably has a different name in other areas.

This is screen with a solid plastic filler. It is commonly installed on the lower screen portions to give more protection from those nasty biting flies.

This is not my house, but it is a good example.

Interesting Kevin

Now that you mention it I do remember getting bit in my screen porch but thankfully it wasn't very frequent

I guess we are lucky we don't have much of a problem with those in this area.  You are right that the screens manufactured up here have too big of holes

I wonder if those insects are what's known as Noseeums up here or if that was just an adopted slang name.

Down here no-see-ums are actually Sand Midges or Sand Flies. That slang name could probably be applied to anything at a regional preference.

We install special screens that have small enough holes to keep them out. When I shop in Menard's up North, I think the holes in the screens are huge.

Apparently, Sand Flies are also very common in New Zealand and Australia.

TF, I enjoy your posts, even though I don't respond.  Usually I have nothing to add.

I don't know how many of you deal with these, but we have these tiny insects called Minute Pirate Bugs.  During the summer, they don't bother us, but in the late fall, they bite like crazy.  You can barely see them, but you can sure feel their bite.  And repellents don't work.  It sure makes being outside unpleasant.

Thanks John

I wonder if those insects are what's known as Noseeums up here or if that was just an adopted slang name.  The little guys that get ya!  I had a few bites this year but nothing like you described and I'm thankful for that!

On the North Shore past Duluth we had these tiny black flies in swarms on our camping trip. The only relief you could get was sitting up on the cliff with the Wind coming off Lake Superior.  It was so miserable we had to pull up camp and move up to Thunder Bay Canada.

Good morning.  Not much happening here.  Have a doctor appt., and the rest of the day is free.

TF, I enjoy your posts, even though I don't respond.  Usually I have nothing to add.

Garry, I hope you feel better.

Cederstrand, it's good to hear from you.  Sounds like your layouts are coming along OK.  Good luck with the track issues.

More Indian Summer here.  Last week it snowed, today's high will be 80°F, 26° for many of you.

I don't have anything from New Zealand to post.  I wish I had a bunch of vacation photos to post, but that would be impossible since I have never been there.

Howdy ....

Brent .... Your Picture from Holland is remarkable. That is a whale of an accident.  .... It reminds me of the flying F3 in LA many years ago.

I was at the doctor's office today. My sickness of over two weeks had evolved to an upper respiratory infection which has become very nasty. So far, I can rest at home with a lot of antibiotics (He increased that today.) . Chest xray showed I don't need to be in the hospital, thankfully.

Everybody: .... Have a nice evening.

1 x 4s at my local lumber yard are $.32ca/$.24USD per foot any length up to 16', spruce or fir.

Good afternoon from monsoonville. It is wet today.

My second Rapido RDC is in at PWRS so I will have to pick that up at some point though with this kitchen reno who knows when I'll get back to the trainroom.SighIt is starting to wear thin talking to so many different people between the insurance and others involved. I let my wife do most of the work on that front as I have a hard time getting excited about such things. I was up in the attic this morning making sure I can go to a larger pipe for the stove fan.

I am feeling worn out so called an electrician for an estimate. I think I am starting to wave the white flag on doing everything myself. The Mother-in-law phoning in the middle of the night does not help the energy level. She has dementia and it is taking its toll on us all. Went through it with my Dad 25 years ago so I know what to expect but it is all new to my wife and her family.

Think I will cut the drywall away from around the electrical panel and call it a day.

. On November 2nd, 2020 n Holland, a Metro train overran the stop blocks at a station outside Rotterdam has been left balancing 10 metres above ground on the plastic tail of a whale sculpture.

All the best to all.

Evening

Had a great day!  Who could not have a fantastic day with a high of 75° in November?

Judy and I took a road trip to the hilly big town of Mankato today.  We both just love old river towns.  We just drove around doing some sightseeing for hours.  It was great with the windows down in the nice weather.

I saw the old Mankato Depot.  It's rather large and appeared fully restored not too long ago.  It's a big Depot.

Judy found an Old A&W that was converted into a taco drive inn.  Thier chili cheese arritos were really somethingDinner.

Charlie I read your response that your tablet gets that same 404 message but not your notebook.  That kind of made sense to me.  My message center unreachable I think started happening right when I got my new phone 5 months ago.

Maybe the updated system here doesn't work with small devices anymore, ...Dunno

Have a nice evening gentlemenWink

P.S.  Speaking of boards.  The price of Cedar is off-the-charts here.  I kid you not I bought 4) 2x4x10's at Scherer Brothers Lumber about 2 months ago and it costed $96.  Maybe due to the cedar shortage that was prevalent at the time.  I haven't checked the prices lately.

I've been getting black and gray background squares lately in Firefox appearing randomly on some, but not all sites.

My wife and I used gmail and google calandar.  Yesterday she saw I had "an appointment" with a guy working for a mortgage company.  I never heard of either, but on her screen, it said I created the event, with my email addy.  It was not on my calendar, at all.

Been looking at 1x4's and I swear the price goes up $2 everytime I go to Lowes or Home Depot.  I should just bite the bullet and buy what I need.
