One of my favorite photos from about 10-years ago: A West bound New York Central passenger train passes a short freight headed by NYC Mikado #9519 as it rounds the curve near the Farmers Union grain elevator.

P.S. Thanks for the memory jolt on Rodger Thornhill Ed... Got it now I remember And really liked the shot of that shiny nosed New York Central E8 with the short-lived red emblem you spoke of
And that TV pic taken inside of the Caboose Nice!

Track fiddlerNot familiar with Rodger Thornhill
One of the best Alfred Hitchcock movies features Roger Thornhill (Cary Grant) posing as a redcap to sneak off the Century in Chicago. I just happened to be watching it in the caboose a while back:
IMG_8664 by Edmund, on Flickr
Most of the "Century" interior scenes were filmed on the Southern Pacific but the Chicago, LaSalle St. Station scenes were filmed there, with New York Central E8s all shiny and with a short-lived nose emblem!

Thanks for the compliment on the scene, TF!

Living the dream.
Track fiddler ...Not familiar with Rodger Thornhill but what do you suppose that suspicious character on the left is carrying in the brown paper bag Ed? Most normal people do not travel carrying big brown paper bags.
I dunno, TF, looks to me to be an overly-large salesman's grip...perhaps filled with product samples.

Dennis, hold on to those locomotives. They will become treasures to you. One of my favorites is STRATTON AND GILLETTE #4, a bashed-up model I built in High School when the SGRR was in N scale. I love this locomotive, and it always reminds me of my youth.
This is also the very first piece of equipment ever lettered for the STRATTON AND GILLETTE.

How about a top 2, at a meet? Balfour and Colucci Creek Southern SD40-2 6858 and F3A 9960A pass each other on my 1x6 N Scale switching layout.
(As for which is my #1, I love me a good F unit, but the SD40-2 has always been a favorite for me!)

1825 Liverpool Manchester Railway locomotive 'Rocket' in Leeds. I must buy some crew for it.
One among the three cars, one of them got interchanged too far from it's home road. See if you can spot it!
Hint: It's in the middle.

Kevin: "Something you have made for the layout."
The grain bins were made from a couple of empty tin cans and a few pieces of styrene.
oldline1What's the wheel arrangement here? No rod between the center and rear driver? HUH?
That is the old Monogram plastic NEW YORK CENTRAL J3a Hudson kit. The main rod was miscast, so I just cut off the bad piece thinking no one would notice.
I should have known better.
