Some of Michigan's train stations:

Durand, MI:

One end of the Durand station:

Niles, MI:

Detroit's Michigan Central Station:

This is the state that the station was in in 2018. Since then, the Ford Motor Company has purchased the building and plans to have it restored by 2022. The main concourse will be open to the public with shops and restaurants available. Ford and some of its suppliers will have development offices above that, and the top floors will become residential. Ford is maintaining four tracks adjacent to the station in the hopes that Amtrack will resume commuter service to the area.

Port Huron (lind of looks like it is boarded up):

Something on a smaller scale:

Battle Creek:

Charity Island:

Lapeer:

Cement City. Doesn't that sound like a romantic destination?!?Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaugh

Of course there are tons more stations.

I came across a few photos where the stations had been abandonded with no hope of recovery, but I decided to not post those. Too depressing.

Cheers!!

Meanwhile —

     Back in Petoskey:

Lots of great stuff to see in this 1908 photo, be sure to enlarge the view.

See anything unusual about the depot itself?

Wouldn't you love to eavesdrop on some of the conversations going on at the platform?

Cheers, Ed

It looks like Tom Brady showed his age or the number of times his brain has bounced against his skull last night.

I don't know anybody that was happy about Tampa Bay spending all that money to get two has-beens on the roster.

I received an eMail the the Scale Rails of Southwest Florida train show for March of 2021 has been cancelled.

As far as I know, there was a train show in St. Petersburg last month, and another one for next month int he same area. Other than those I do not think there were any train shows in Florida this year.

I am not going to the one next month. So far we have been completely crud free, and I want to keep it that way.

-Kevin

Wow.  That is a years' worth of cancellations.  I work in higher ed; and our concern is that students will go home over the holidays; mingle with old friends and family, and we will see a new round of new infections in December and January.  I hope that is not the case.  Texas A&M has in effect cancelled their spring break; going from 5 days to 1 day; so students cannot go places, mingle, get infected, and come back.

I am ready for all of this to go away.

I saw the python story on a news feed.  I hate snakes. The adage the only good snake is a dead snake rings true to me.

It would be so nice to have normal back.  We want to go on our free trip we get every year twice a year.  But I just can't see risking, rolling the dice to get on a plane to breath the same recycled air that everybody else is breathing to go gamble some more.

I sure cannot understand how anyone could have a snake in a house with a baby.

My wife was so protective of our three babies, I am sure that she would never allow them within a mile of a large snake, much less have one in the house.

The contractor never showed up this week to install the window and door as promised. I left a message with their office as soon as I woke up this morning. Maybe I will hear back.

This is the last component of this project I need a General Contractor to do, the last permit, and the last inspection. Once this is done I can just shoot forward.

All my elation I felt earlier in the week about starting the layout in January has faded into discontent again.

I try to keep a positive attitude. So much has been done so far this year, and under bad circumstances, that I should be thankful.

It is not like Florida did not have enough monsters already. Panthers, Bears, Alligators, Rattlesnakes, etc. These pythons are just too much. As are the iguanas.

You can keep them there.  I hate snakes!  I have never liked them -- I'm not sure why.

Their "Big C" burger is triple patty slice of heaven.

That looks great.  I am a burger lover.  My wife complains that I could eat hamburgers every day and never get enough.

We have a 90° forecast today.  Several years ago on this day we had snow flurries.

I really don't like Daylight Savings Time.  I am walking in the complete dark now in the mornings.

Have a good day, everyone.

Today I'm contacting another dealer next county over. Can it be that there are NO John Deere garden tractors to be had?

My local dealer had three 2 weeks ago, all at the top end $3,600 and up.  They looked on their computer and there was one used one somewhere in the system with 1000 hours on it.  There is one bottom of the line at Home Depot.

I ended up buying a used cub cadet (30 hours)  from a dealer, it was the only one they had except for those 0 turning radius mowers.

Both dealers said they had a hard time getting tractors.

Facebook Marketplace has more than Craigslist, but most are in horrible shape

Good morning everyone.  Brunhilda, a large coffee and an order of cinnamon raisin toast please.

Mackinac Island is a really neat place.  Main street on Mackinac Island is a state highway.  The only one in the US where motorized vehicles are not allowed.  If you ever have the opportunity to go, make sure to make a stop nearby at one of the best burger joints I've ever been to.  Clyde's drive-in in St. Ignace.  Incredible food.  People happily wait in line for this place.

Their "Big C" burger is triple patty slice of heaven.

Have a good one guys!

Pretty neat goings-on up there in Mackinac:

Speaking of supply and demand, I went to the John Deere dealer today, cash in hand, to buy an X590 with a 54" mower, a 57" snow blower, cab, weights and tire chains. First thing I noticed when I pulled in was that there were NO green tractors anywhere to be seen around the dealer.

Talked to the salesman and he says, good luck. We haven't had a new tractor in here since April. "Covid, you know?"

Huh?

Today I'm contacting another dealer next county over. Can it be that there are NO John Deere garden tractors to be had?

Well, it was a nice drive and the fall colors are just about to kick in.

Snakes: I can live with the garden-variety snakes we have on the property. One thing I can't figure are the folks that keep rather large reptiles in their homes.

Our neighbors have a pair of, in MY estimation, HUGE yellow constrictors (Paraguayan anacondas). OK so they like snakes, fine, but they just had a newborn baby girl. In my mind, big snakes and tiny babies just don't mix, I don't care HOW careful you are there's a chance that snake would swallow the baby like a chicken! No way, Jose!

I hope everyone is doing OK —

Cheers, Ed

Your state does have quite a lot of Monsters down there Kevin.  Not to mention the Spiders and big bugs.  We would probably have a lot of monsters up here in Minnesota too but by late fall-early winter they all freese! and dieLaugh

Actually I know some of those raspy iguana lizards are quite affectionate pets.

I know this because I knew this girl that owned two and they were quite affectionate.

Each of her lizards knew their name and would come to her when she called them.

It was kinda cool.

She was kind of weird though and would feed them fruit out of her mouthTongue TiedIndifferent

She was a fruitcake but I kinda liked her

Get this!  Her name was Wanda

Yuk

I must admit I'm not much of a snake fan anymore.

My Grandmother who raised me would throw up from the sight of a snake.

We used to catch them by the bucket loads down by the railroad tracks not far from where I lived.

That was then this is now.  Although once fond of the slithery creatures,  I don't care for them too much anymore.

I have become more of a fan of very heavy rectangular steel boxes riding on steel wheels more to my liking lately

The Miami Herald reported today that the longest python ever captured in Florida was brought in yesterday, 19 feet 11 inches!

If I ever saw one of these I might just keel over dead.

Supply and demand

Where they can't keep up with shipping,  the price goes higher trying to keep up with shipping it there because of multiple shipments

If someone could count it would probably help

And I can't believe those lumberyards down there don't keep a stockpile of the stuff on hand because of hurricanes  And they know the next one is just around the corner.  OSB doesn't go bad kept in a dry environment

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk and Robbie a dog treat.

 Down in the dump today

 1. Had to hire a new Heat and Air company to get our furances going. I have used them at work and they are honest but not cheap like our old guy.

 2. Dirk is limping again! I see a nother never ending Vet visit bill coming my way.

 3. Need around $250.00 in car repairs.

I am guessing in the next week I will have spent $600.00 or more on furances (if I am lucky) Dirk and car repair.

Later, Ken and Dirk says my paw hurts Daddy.

Still get a 4x8 sheet of half inch OSB for 8 bucks up here

OSB has always been expensive down here. I am puzzled why when I go to Home Depot in Georgia OSB is always a few bucks cheaper, and half the price at Menard's in Indiana.

Maybe the cost of shipping it down here effects the price.

Maybe.

Of course you always get a big warm handshake RobertYes  but nothing too secret about it.

And you do get the big hat if you live down south to keep the sun off you.  But if you live up here in the Northland you get a Big webbed steel bag of hybrid slow-burning hot coals to keep you warm up here real soon eh?

P.S.   I could only sense that cute blond with the freckles on her nose was really something back in your daySmile

ROBERT PETRICK
I've been drinking black coffee since I was about 14. I distinctly remember the first time I did was to impress Christine (the cute blonde with freckles on her nose who lived down the street). Really.

When I was fourteen there was a really cute girl on the next street over named Pamela.

I overheard her on the school bus one day telling her friend that she was impressed by this guy named Leo who could walk on his hands.

I spent weeks trying to learn how to walk on my hands too. Never did. Never talked to her.
