Good evening all.

Zoe - A very big coke float please. Thanks.

MLC - Glad those miscreants didn't cause too many issues.

Ken - Glad you are still above ground.

W*^k - The employee who was extremely disrespectful yesterday today stated he will not be doing the masks longer than a few days. I responded that if he wants me to continue showing up, he will indeed wear it. We are already short two people, so if I walk, there will not be enough employees to continue operating the store. (It would leave only him and the owner.)

Trains - Still working on just small projects, no layout nor is the space ready due to the stoppage of the remodel project. I might just set up a small loop to run something though.

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the night!

April?

Here is the scene in my back yard today, just before sundown:

I really don't need any further advice to shelter indoors.

Hi Everyone,

Bear: those cheese rolls look delicious!  Are those like pancakes or crepes wrapped around cheese?

My son told me about six-sigma last year.  I looked into it and was thinking of maybe signing up for training, but as time went on, I started having second thoughts because this training alters your perception of processes and I wasn't sure that would be a good thing.  It's one thing to explore new ideas and concepts to improve processes, and quite another to have your perception of how processes work altered artificially.  At least that's my take on it.

Went to Target with my wife to pick up an order.  I asked about 91% isopropyl alcohol for paint stripper and the shelves were bare. Oh well, Sign of the times.

Less is more,...more or less!

last night I was outside from about 2:00 AM until 3:30 AM watching the meteor shower.

Not very much activity... I only saw about a half dozen in 90 minutes.

We hit 95 degrees today, and broke the record of 94 set back in 1944. The heat wave and drought are pretty bad. We need some rain soon. My yard is dead.

I went and did laundry today for the first time in 5 weeks. It took almost three hours to get it all done. I had so many loads that by the time the last one was started, there was only 5 minutes left on the one that was started first.

The Tampa Bay Bucaneers management have apparently been driven insane by isolation. They just spent millions and gave up draft picks to pick up a pair of has-beens for a premium price. One of them even had to come out of retirement. Who pays, plus gives up a draft pick, to get a former NFL player? NUTS! I guess Brady and Gronk heard Florida was a great place to retire. Tampa could be building a great team, but instead we are buying worn out retreads. Bummer.

Good Morning All,

Typical New England weather. mid 60's yesterday and 25F this morning. I'll have a regular in my to go cup please and a blueberry bagels toasted with cream cheese please Chloe.

MLC We have alarms with video for the shop here and storage and just an alarm on the house. they all have phone notification when disarmed or tripped. The video can be called up on an I-phone to go through the cameras and check things. The alarms can be remotely armed or disarmed as well. So long as no-one hacks the phone, very useful.

Ricky - What ever happened to the concept of your rights end when they infringe mine? It's not on risking someone elses health just because you have some personal problem with the rules. I'm surprised the visit from the police didn't settle the matter.

Three day week here seems to be working. We are going through the paperwork with the state for the hourly people to see if we can qualify for the semi unemployment program. They will make up the 10 hours a week we cut back and not jam us up on compensation so we went for it. Last downturn in 08 we didn't even shorten anyones hours but we had a 20% surcharge added on the business tax and unemployment compensation fund so I figured we'll get dinged for something anyway. I'm not looking forward to the invoice for all this nationally either. I will stop there as I see Vinny raising his head at the back table.

Still doing the one corner backround building. I have the last two walls ready to add to the existing parts so we'll see how that all goes tonight. I may have scored a 50" x 99" x .060" sheet of white styrene on closeout from the sign shop supplier. If I did, I'll never use it all so put your requests in now. I've just now reached the end of a 48" x 48" x .060" white sheet I have had for a decade. Works very well for walls and flat roofs if used on the roofs with bracing. Stay tuned.

Time to go back and start measuring wishbone parts so I can make some drawings for the machinist.    Ciao, J.R.

Bear: those cheese rolls look delicious!  Are those like pancakes or crepes wrapped around cheese?

Gidday Jim, short answer, bread.
Long answer. The Cheese Roll is a simple “snack/ comfort food” that is a Southland and South Otago tradition, and no self-respecting Southern café would not serve them in some form.

(Note: Not wishing to appear to be teaching my Grandmother how to suck eggs, unlike the Southern States in the US, Southland Province in New Zealand is at the cold end of the country, down in the “Roaring Forties”, the next land mass south being Antarctica.)

The very basic recipe has ingredients that any farmers wife would be expected to have on hand in the 1950s: a couple of loaves of sliced bread, a packet of Maggi Onion Soup mix, and cheese.

The idea is that two opposing crusts are removed from each slice of bread, (I prefer to use wholegrain toast), making them easier to roll up. The Maggi Onion Soup is mixed with just enough water to form a liquid, in a saucepan, then about pound of grated cheese is added to the saucepan which is placed on the stove and heated until the cheese is melted and you have a spreadable mixture, which is spread on your slices of bread which are then rolled up, put on a baking tray and cooked in the oven until the bread is nicely toasted.

Eat as is, or as I prefer, with a mug of homemade tomato soup. Just the thing on a cold day or night. YUM! A simple, quick to make snack because I can make them!!
Of course, things like chopped bacon, onion, various herbs, and spices, can be added to this basic recipe, and in fact, different soup mixes used.
The uncooked rolls can be frozen in an airtight container for up to three months.

“The only time to eat diet food is while you're waiting for the steak to cook”. -Julia Child.

Thoughts and Best Wishes to All that need them, Stay Safe.
Cheers, the Bear.ChefSmile

YesYes J.R.!  Here in Geneva the police had some problems with a bunch of kids that didn't think the "Social Distancing" and "Stay at home" orders applied to them. Several of the College students at a major university here were among them.  These are kids that for whatever reason could not go home when the college closed.  They were several times down the street from me playing Basketball every day.  Some were out at night causing damage to city property, and personal property etc.  We now have a few (about 5) positive cases here in town....  Rumor has it they are all at the college.   Hmmmmmm......  Kids haven't been out around town anymore.  College security also got involved with making them realize exactly what J.R. mentioned and where they would end up if they didn't respect other peoples rights.  I guess they didn't like the options!  'nuff said, before Vinnie comes over.

One nice thing about the Tesla is that the cameras are basically on all the time.  There are 6 or 8 of them.  Anyone messes with the car not only will I have video of them but a few minutes of the video will automatically be sent to Tesla and stored for a several days.  Oh, and yes, I would press charges! Wink

I have to get the next edition of the Lakeshores Limited Extra done in the next couple days for the NMRA Division here.  That keeps me active and not thinking too much about current events....

Have a great day and stay safe my friends!

Howdy ....

Ed ........... That is a nice photo of the Via train.

John York 1 .... Thanks for commenting on my photos.

Today is my wife's birthday. In recent years, I have treated her to a stay at a nice hotel (Nashville or Atlanta) and a dinner at a top quality restarant. This years plans are canceled becasue of the virus situation. So, tonight's dinner will be one I will pick up from a favorite restaurant near here that currently has cary out meals.

Yesterday was our 42nd day of staying home. I have used some of the time to work on the layout.

....

Here are 5 more photos of our 2002 trip on the Rocky Mountaineer .  The second picture with a CP train is in Revelstoke. The last three photos were taken while the train was going over the famous Stoney Creek bridge.

Nope!  I may get back in the mood to get more done, but at the moment haven't had much interest in doing anything.  Part of that is having a lady that I like a lot to spend some time with (via Zoom at the moment).  Guess I want to see where life may lead before I do much more with the layout.  I'm an old man....  But...  I ain't dead yet! WhistlingWink  I am only 2 certificates away from MMR.  Doubt I will ever complete it.

Nice photos Garry!

Take care and safe - all of you!!!

Good Afternoon!

What a day! Not a cloud to be seen! Nor any contrails, as airline traffic has been reduced to nearly zero. I wouldn´t mind if it stays that way.

Garry - Happy B-Day to your wife!

Ray - I am also not in the mood to do anything train related. I am still trying to find someone I can sell my Märklin layout to. Any reasonable amount would be just fine. For reasons we all know, the market has collapsed, at least in my neck of the woods.

With all the doom and gloom around us, here is something to put a smile on your face!

Stay safe!

Happy times!

Good afternoon.

Ulrich, that's a fun video.  Trains and kids.

I did some grocery shopping today.  I'm heading out now to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription.  Drive-thru only.

It's a beautiful day here.  Sunny, 78°, light breeze.  The dog and I just sat for about two hours out on the front porch.  We don't have too many of these days.

Our town finally got a quiet zone on our four or five crossings.  I am the only person in town who misses the train horns.

Have a good day, everyone.

Good morning from the West Coast where it is 14c with a 9/10 OC.

Garry, I have really been enjoying the photos. The one of the train going under the highway bridge brought back memories. The new bridge is waaaaay higher. We use to have to wind down the mountain side to cross that old one and climb back up again on the other side.

I have spent a lot of time watchin trains between Revelstoke and Banff, I just love watching the East bound trains grinding their way up to the continental divide with lots of big power. Lots of ghost from long ago to discover along the way as well.

The Rise and Fall of Glacier House at Rogers Pass • Travel Tales ...

I have this large tin can that had an expensive bottle of booze come in it that my sister had given me years ago. I started throwing quarters in it way back then and seeing as it is full I thought I would roll them up and buy an engine or two. I weighed them and there is 18660 grams of quarters and near as I can tell should be about $1059.00 worth of quarters. That is a lot of rolling. This is a good time to do it though being in lock down. I am looking at two Rapido FP7s. The "B" units are due out in August and the "A" units are going fast. Time to start making some offers on two, however, looking at the prices online there does not seem to be much in the way of low prices.

I changed the battery in my NCE base station, I have had it for 11 years and they say to do it every five. It was still showing 3.28 volts, however I did not want to chance a leaking battery. I opened up my Rapido coaches and the button batteries in those were leaking, I got them out in the time of nick.

I have to take my wife to the Neurologist today, it is such a shame such a talent can't work in her field any longer.

Ricky, you just stick to your guns on proper procedure. I find the disrepectful behaviour puzzling as that would not have been tolerated anywhere I worked in my 38 years on the job. Those that could not comply were not around long.

Ed, your property is beautiful, I don't know why people like to live armpit to armpit when we have such room to spread out on this continent.

Ray, I think the camera idea is great for vehicles, The back up camera was manditory in 2016 and forward facing cameras will come into effect as well. It will cut the litigation down immensely as well.

Well best get moving.

Good afternoon .

Thank you to those who extended birthday greetings to Shelley. Much approaciated.

Also thanks for the comments on my photos.

JR .... I am not sure exactly how many cars were in the train. On the first day, it must have been more than 20 cars from Vancouver to Kamloops. At that location the train was split into two sections. One section went to Jasper with about 1/3 of the cars. Our section was larger, and we went to Calgary.

I'll post the rest of the pictures later.

Ulrich. .. Cute video. I recognize the train. It is the Music City Star operating in Nashville TN

Had another company come and estimated the ceiling repairs today. They said they can do it for $550.00, which is a whole lot better than $1,600.00!

They will be here to get it done on Tuesday of next week. Smile

Then I can tile and paint the garage and lanai... finally moving forward on something.

The new tub and toilet were delivered today, and they are beautiful. I just ordered everything from the Kohler "Bancroft" collection so it should all look good together. The shower head is really neat.

I need to start contacting plumbers to get this part done.

I went to Home Depot and bought some thin set mortar and grout. As soon as I get the old thin set up I can begin laying tile in what will be my wife's closet.

Well, it was another frustrating day on on the estate front, I'll spare you the details.

I really like doing plumbing and electrical, what I don't like is painting. The wife looks after the inside and we hire for the outside. We all have things we would rather not do and it is painting for me.

I have been reading all about CP-FP7 units today trying to tell the difference between the ones with a steam generator and ones without. There is a box unit on the roof towards the back that is larger on some than others. I still have not confirmed whether or not that is for the steam unit. ED? or anyone?

Watched a movie called Sergio last night, it was pretty good, I also watched "Orthodox" a four part series, that was worth watching. There are too many stinkers on now though and I don't ever remember turning so many off without watching them through as I have been lately. I like the limited series that are up to about ten episodes, lots of good british ones on. Netflix Canada is quite a bit different than Netflix U.S. as we get a lot of programing from other parts of the world and there is some really good stuff on. Watched a few from Australia recently that were quite good.

I just went outside to drop a bag od trash in the bin. Tomorrow is pick-up day, and I wanted to get it in there because there are chicken scraps in it.

It is really quiet and foggy outside, downright spooky.

Quite a change from last night when it was a crystal clear evening.

THE PRODIGAL SON RETURNETH!

Hey guys how is everybody?

I've been AWOL for I don't know how long.

Still working because I'm E S S E N T I A L at the hotel, the Y completely laid me off, like completely. They claim we are going to reopen next week but I doubt that will happen.

I am enjoying this little forced vacation financed compliments of the U.S. Government.

I'm not sure if I have posted since around my birthday but I actually went on my first date at the end of January, the following week she tells me shes not over her ex of almost a year. That's quite the long story and I'll spare y'all the details unless anyone asks.

I simply haven't had the time as of the beginning of this COVID-19 shut down I had not had a single day off since before new years.

Well just stopping in if y'all have any questions for me shoot them my way!

Good Morning!

The bright and sunny weather continues, it is just a little cooler today, but still nice!

I am bored! I am so terribly bored! I wish we could get started on that inevitable move, but still no chance! As long as we don´t know where we finally will end up and when that will be, there is just nothing I can do.

Good morning guys!  Flo, I'll take the special this morning, over easy, bacon, real maple syrup, whole wheat.  Lg coffee.

I cannot begin to describe how happy I am that it's Friday.  It's been just a stupid week at work.

I watched the first half of the NFL draft last night and was a little disappointed in the lack of trading up.  Looks like I missed that excitement as it really didn't start until after I went to bed (right after the Bucs moved up a spot for Wirfs).  So much for teams trying to move into the Lions or Giants spots for QB's.  Was kind of boring.  Most of the mock drafters had this one (at least the first half of it) pretty darn close.  Oh well.

Later fellas.
