The police still are not repsonding to anything other than emergencies, and all code enforcement has been suspended.

That's not good, especially since you have decided to do so many renovations. We can only hope that things improve with time. On the other hand, as Brent suggests, once you have the place all nice and spiffy it might be time to call a real estate agent! If our situation goes bad that is exactly what we will do.

Dave

Edit:

Top of the page so everything is on my tab! Last night we had grilled pork tenderloin coated with a mixture of our pork rib rub, lemon juice and olive oil. We cooked it low and slow and I didn't turn it over because that would have taken half the rub mixture off. It was accompanied by twice baked mac and cheese (i.e. leftovers with a can of cheddar cheese soup added to moisten things up) and a nice oil and vinegar cole slaw. Everything was very tasty! I'm sure the Diner will add the above to the menu so please dig in!!!

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

While we are in British Columbia we should travel up to the northern part of the province. The scenery is spectacular! The first few seconds of this video are breathtaking:

Here is some more info on northern BC:

There really is only a weak rusty pin holding our decency and humanity together.

I recently came across this notice in a May 28, 1899 Boston & Albany timetable:

 NYC_BnA-crop_edited-1 by Edmund, on Flickr

A hundred twenty-one years ago people still needed to be reminded.

I hope everyone is doing well this Tuesday. Thanks for the pork roast, Dave. We had some OK ribs last night. Not my best but the selection was pretty slim at the time we were shopping. Looking forward to firing up the smoker and loading it up with pork butts!

Good Morning All,

41F overcast with rain predicted this morning. I'll have a coffee and one of those brekkie sandwiches with bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel please Zoe. Wrap it up so I can take it with me please. thi is the only diner in the area where I can still sit and eat.

There have always been entitled people in this world. Trains were no exception especially in the golden era when there were rail cars by class. The "rif raf" were usually well behaved as it would have been a major deal to get put off the train. I wonder where that termcamee from any way- rif raf?

Kevin, hopefully your new neighbors will calm down. I find it funny that I race but behave on the streets. Granted it wasn't always the case but being responsible for 4 kids changed a lot of that. If they don't calm down, a calm word and then if that is met with defiance, when things get back to normal or some aproximation of it, lower the hammer and get the city involved. We had to do that with our new neighbours and they finally got the message.

Still beavering away on the backround building having cut two walls off and pieced them back together bit by bit. This is the preliminary "good enough" back wall. I still have more to do but I already feel better about the direction. This is the first wall I pieced back together and joined to the original backround. Behind the water tower the main line goes up an incline to the elevated section that goes around the two back walls. The backround buildings then also act as a view block for the incline.

The second shot shows the back of the modified wall and the start of the incline. All the backround buildings are clearanced for the track and eventually i will go in and wall off the track so the buildings then have a view block. Yes, the main runs right through the side of the building.

All for now, back to the shop.   Ciao, J.R.

I thought some of the folks talking about home projects might get a kick out of this:

Good morning.  I just got back from the trail walk, and it's a beautiful morning -- clear, cool, light breeze.  The birds are going crazy staking out territories and building nests.

We used to live in New Orleans, where the limited land area made everyone packed in like sardines.

When we moved to the Great Plains, my wife loved the open territory.

When relatives visit, they complain, "There's nothing here."

That's exactly why we love it here.

I wonder where that termcamee from any way- rif raf?

It is riff-raff.

Two definitions found on the Net:

"A group of disreputable people of low social position; the dregs of society."

"These words are from the verbs rifler, to spoil or strip, and raffler, to carry off. The phrase referred to the plundering of the bodies of the dead on the battlefield and the carrying off of the booty. ... The phrase was abbreviated to riff-raff and can be found in Gregory's Chronicle of London of about 1470"

Pork butts?  Did you say a slim selection of pork butts?  You are obviously shopping at the wrong markets.  I know of three markets where you can find all the pork butts you'd ever want.  If you want domestic, one is about 492 miles to your south.  If you want imported, there are two.  One is about 419 miles to the southeast, and the other is 339 miles southeast.

Naw, the pork butts were plenty. It was the choice of ribs that were spare.

I like the short baby-backs but all they had were those huge Saint-Louis style. I suffered through, though. I'll have a bone to pick with the butcher, next time.

So, they were spare ribs?

And you'll have a bone to pick?

Ouch, now I have a headache.

On another subject, you're an ex-GE person, correct?  Did you happen to look at the return address on the missive you probably just got concerning pension funding?  I think it used to be employee relations or some such.  Now it says "People Operations".  When did that happen?

Guess they wanted to operate on us without having to bother with relations.

thanks for looking the definition up Maxman. I was pretty sure there were two f's involved in the two words but I was in a hurry and it took too long to type themWink.

If you have spare ribs Ed, I have a place for them on my plate. What's that? You ate them all already? Oh well.

That is Riff Raff, played by Richard Obrien in the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

He is a handyman.

Afternoon folks....

SeeYou190
Nobody likes him, THEY NEVER LIKED HIM!

I can see why!

Everytime I go outside today it gets dark and starts to snow.....  I have done two of my three walks around the neighborhood so far and no it is not "A beautiful day in the neighborhood" when I go out there.  As soon as I go back inside the house, the sun comes out.  Go figure?  Currently 44°F with 35 mph breese out there.  Need to get at least one more loop around to get my 5 miles of walking/running in.  Yep I have started trying to run about 2/3rds of the loop each time I go out.

You know you might be a true Upstate New Yorker when "vacation" means going South past Syracuse for the weekend.

Howdy ...

Brent .... Yes, the second house makes more sense. Nice !

Ed ..... Thanks for posting the phto of the CN steam loco you rode behind when you were a young.

Kevin ... Nice signals.

JR .... You are making a lot of prgress with your layout.

....

While we are in BC, I can post some photos of our 2002 trip on the Rocky Mountaineer from Vancouver to Calgary.  ... Most pictures are looking over the single level caoches ahead of the full length dome car we rode in. .... Today, the Rocky Mountaineer has a different paint scheme than it had in 2002.

First two photos are leaving Vancouver.

Here we are heading through the canyon to Kamloops.

CN and CP have tracks on opposite sides of the canyon. They coordinate operations so all eastbound trains are on one railroad, and all westbound trains are on the other railroad.

So, we can see trains running on the other side of the canyon going in the other direction.

I will post more pictures in the days ahead.

Ah Ray. I worked with a person like that when I cross decked to the Coral Sea (nickname "Zippo" cause it caught fire all the time). any time he left the ship it would rain hence his nickname Black Cloud. Our own version of Joe Btfsplk.

Hopefully the sun will shine tomorrow.

A green snack bag with a prize attached?

I want whatever is in the bucket marked "cookies".

Here is what happens within six weeks of Cape Coral announcing they have suspended code enforcement due to the coronavirus:

Two houses North of me, trailers with two boats, boring equipment, and other industrial devices:

House Southwest of mine, two tow trucks are now being parked in the backyard:

It does not take long for this to become normal, then it becomes hard to get rid of.

Well......  Deep subject.

I got my final trip around the neighborhood in just a few minutes ago so I am finished walking outside for today.  I actually ran the entire loop and only stopped for a minute to chat with an attractive lady who lives on the corner near my house for a minute or so (from 6 foot away to be properly social distanced).  Hey, ya gotta do what you gotta do! Wink. The sun is now out and there weren't any little white things falling this time.  WOW!  The temp is now all of 38°F out there though.

Maybe you should head for the country Kevin.

Nope. The rural areas can be even worse as far as noise goes. I know several people that "escaped" to the country, only to get the wrong neighbors, and then there really is nothing you can do about it.

I also need to be within 5 minutes of absolutely everything I could possibly need/want. I cannot imagine having the hankering for a Cuban Sandwich, and not be able to get one immediately.

I am a city dweller. If I ever were to leave Cape Coral it would be for Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago, or New York City.

Just looked out the window and we are now having a Blizzard.....  One thing about Upstate New York,  If you don't like the weather, just wait a minute.  It will probably get worse at least this time of year.  LOL  Most likely it is in responce to me lighting the grill to cook a small steak for supper......
