Good morning everybody
MLC ... Hopefully the warmer weather slows down the virus.
JR .... Looking forward to seeing your power house.
I worked some more on the layout last night. I'm filling in one area that has been just boards and track. When I complete this, my entire layout will have scenery.

While taking a break, I watched a video of an operating model rortary caol dumper, powered by an arduino.
I saw a pair of egrets this morning, out on the marsh behind the house. They are seasonal so it's nice to see them again. Saw a pair of great blue herons, too, but they winter over here, so nothing new.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Thank you Garry. So if you see the egrets twice in one day would they then be regrets ? J.R.

GMTRacing Whose white birch did you use on the diorama? The ones I have were done decades ago and are looking a little peaked or at least past prime.
Those are Christmas Village accessories from Department 56. They look great in photographs, but they have no durability and are very cheaply made. Absolutely not suitable for a layout, but they sure are good props.

Living the dream.
Good afternoon, everyone. I just got back from walking the trail. It's cool and rainy, but it was nice to walk.
I drove into town today and bought some plastic storage cases from Michaels for a lot of the small model parts I have. The interstate was surprisingly busy.
Time for a nap, and then time for some layout work. Life is rough.

Well, I was afraid of this.
The house across the road sold for more than $10,000.00 over the asking price. It sold to an investment group in Europe.
It is now for rent.
This is exactly what was going on before the housing crash in the late 2000s. My house went from being worth $80,000.00 to $325,000.00 in five years. Then went down to $30,000.00 in six months.
At the time, a home-seeker could not buy a house. Homes were listed, then they would get bid up by investment companies, mostly out-of-country, and the market went up-up-up way too fast.
The asking rent on this house is $1,600.00 per month. My mortgage payment is $375.00 per month! The house next door to this one is $1,500.00 per month and it is a four bedroom. The people that live there have a three year lease that runs out this year. I'll bet this means their rent will get hiked up. I hope they don't move. They have been good neighbors.
Most houses get occupied by two families that split the rent. This is not legal, but nobody will do anything about it because they know no one can really afford these rent prices.
Oh well, nothing I can do about it. I can only hope the people that move in are neat and quiet. I have a good set of neighbors right now (most of the time), and three of them are renters. I am hoping for the best.

Does any one know what that means? Sounds like I need some penicillin for socially transmitted disease or at least some better mouthwash.

If another model railroader wants to move in across the street, I will make the deposit for you and do the paperwork today!
I blacked out the number because I am not sure on forum rules about advertising, or posting phone numbers that are not yours. Or even posting your own phone number for that matter.

Good Afternoon,
A sunny, spring day here. Supposed to hit 40F!
Well the fridge was delivered yesterday, same guys who brought the freezer a couple of weeks ago. They were happy to take it into the basement for the 'incentive' I offered. I also gave them masks, which they didn't mind wearing, more for my wife's piece of mind. Our kitchen fridge is 38 years old so we do need a back-up. Besides it is small and we were in constant use of the old one before it quit. Why didn't we just replace the kitchen fridge you might ask? Well the space is fairly small and we need a counter depth model which isn't too common.
Have a great day,
CN Charlie
We are now hunkered down with no planned trips to stores or anywhere for the forseable future. Things seem ok though in our city. Major problem seems to be the returning 'snowbirds'.
Bear, love the humour. Appleton was my favourite rum when I used to drink the stuff. On a trip to the Caribbean in 1976 I bought some white rum produced in Gaudaloupe. It tasted great and was really smooth but I couldn't stand the smell of molasses.
Hey all. Got cut back to 18hrs at work. I keep all my benefits, but its gonna be two ugly paychecks- reduced hours is expected through April 25th. I did not handle it well. I had a full blown panic attack, ans left work an hour early using pto. A nice surpise happened that sort of made up, the Wheeling ran both its tunnel motors in Rio Grande colors through my neck of the woods this afternoon. Hope all are well, I'm not covid sick, just the after effects of a panic attack

Why do I keep getting a Noise Canceling Headphone pop up in the diner? I know, they know I am Married!
Very pleasent day with a high of 79 degrees! Took the wife and Dirk to a park where he did a 2 by 2 Did some running for the wife with her and Dirk and came home.
Fixed the dripping bathroom faucet for the 3'rd time! First time I used Deaco (spell check) and stopped may be 10 days. Afte that failed I tried a Delta washer with the old spring, never really stopped dripping. Today I used a new Delta Spring and Warsher. Think I have finally beaten the drip!
Later Ken and Dirk say's Woof, Woof!

Was it a single-lever Delta, Ken? I usually have to change the ball, too. I must have found a good combination since I haven't had to repair the three I have in over ten years, but it took me several tries to get there.
Cheers, Ed

Sorry, I don't have any idea.

We had a similar problem in our kitchen before we remodled it. The refrigerator was in a corner against a wall facing the pantry. When it died, we could not find a replacement that fit in the space correctly. We ended up with a very small refrigerator because that is all that would work.

Good Morning All,
Bear that cake looks..... Duckie!
37F and still overcast this morning. I suppose since it is the weeken, we'll get rain as well. I'll have a coffee and a bacon egg and cheese bagel please Chloe.
Even the diner we go to cut back it's hours so no take out this morning either. Jmmy - there is a lot of that going around, we are on the verge of a 4 day week until things pick up again. We have enough on to keep going but long term from here it looks grim. I forsee racing being cancelled through the end of May at this point. Even the bigs - Monaco, Indy, LeMans are rescheduling for later in the year or taking a year off entirely.
Work front, we will probably go to a 4 day week. I will not lay off anyone unless the whole thing goes belly up. I think it important to take care of our employees and keep benefits and medical going especially in the midst of this health mess. I think Jimmys employer must be in the stand up category keeping benefits in place so at least there is some back stop. We shall see how the legislation signed into law yesterday works out.
I am in doing personal stuff today and taking the oppourtunity to clean up the shop a bit where it has gotten out of hand.
I understand the dynamics of stopping a freight train, but I wonder especially where there are urban grade crossings why the police and fire departments don't have a secure direct radio link to the railroad controlling the tracks. In the second case it seemed there was time to stop the train before impact - as it is they only missed by a few feet. We can all agree I think that the apprentice morons who try to beat the train to the crossing will still get clobbered but I would think the savings in time and paperwork would be worth it when a stop can be made in time. Just my . Any of you with diredt experience feel free to jump in.
Off to build new shift linkage. Ciao, J.R.
Good morning. Rainy and cool, but I was still able to walk two miles. With the college closed, the field house isn't available, so rain or shine, it's walking outside.
Bacon, eggs, and black coffee. The same breakfast day after day. I'm in a rut I like.
I did get out this past week, got the mower started, picked up more leaves, and got some fertilizer on the front yard. I'm not real thrilled that yardcare season is back.
Our local police have warned that virus scammers are out in force -- asking for donations to non-existent charities to help sick people, selling fake cures, asking for SSNs so the government checks can be sent, etc. They still get people to bite and send money. Wish they could catch these guys and sentence them to life at hard labor.

JR, I also wonder what it is about that crossing - intersection that misleads people into turning onto the tracks? We know that at least three cars made the same mistake.
Mixed fruit bowl with Greek yoghurt and an extra strong Italian roast coffee in an Apache Railway mug, please.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Cheers! Rob
So far so good Rob. How's with you? For virtual brekkie I only get the stuff I'm not supposed to..
John, I think the lot and street are not laid out well. I think a fence parallel to the tracks would do wonders and maybe move a line of parking spaces up to the fence though if you tried to leave the fence off, some genius would overhang the tracks with their truck or car like when they block the sidewalk backing into angled parking spots. Truely the intersection is confusing but it could be better.
Halfway through the shifter upgrades. Two years ago I made it so much better that I ran two race weekends with either no 4th gear or no 2nd. I went back closer the original design and hopefully the simpler layout and better angularity will function more reliably (it's much, much better than new). J.R.

I've watched that webcam off and on for a couple years. It happens almost monthly. Less often with cars coming from left to right and turning away from the camera. Maybe parents visiting their kids at Randolph Macon aren't used to towns with train tracks or the kids themselves are drunk as the cars usually don't stop immediately.
There is a big drop off from the street to the area between the tracks. Most cars and trucks can't get out by themselves.
Train tracks running parallel to the main street or even in the street is very common in the south but not in Maryland.
La Grange KY has a webcam and a similar intersection and 2 tracks and you almost never see the same thing happen.
Cabin air filter. Looks like something I can change. There are some extremely poor videos on how to do it but at least one decent one on Youtube. They could have asked me about it when I was there for service, rather than this second notice nonsense.

ROAR
I used to ride my bike through a rotary (traffic circle, roundabout, whatever) in Concord, MA. I frequently stopped there because the had a bench and a water fountain, and it was a gathering spot for cyclists anyway.
Over the last few years I noticed a disturbing trend. Instead of proceeding counter clockwise around the circle as the law and the signs said, people were turning the wrong way. I am sure their GPS told them to do this. Fortunately, it's a small, lightly traveled loop with a low speed limit, so I have not seen and collisions, but I dread the thought of driverless vehicles trying to navigate these unusual traffic features.
I'm used to roundabouts, and actually like them. What IS scary are those that don't know how to navigate them, or don't want to, just complain about them. They've been a part of WI main roads now for a while.
Stand-offs at 4 way stops are worse. Nobody knows when it's their turn to go.
Rainy here in SE WI today.
I did get my office cleaned up. Of couse I had music on one computer and a live rail cam on the other. I need to start up my lap top once in a while to make sure it's updated.
And the last 2 days were pretty decent, so I did make a huge leap forward in yard work, which does not usually happen.
Roundabouts (or traffic circles as they used to call them here) are efficient though you do need to know what you're doing. I don't buy the GPS excuse because both here and overseas the GPS will tell you turn (left or right depending on the country) into the roundabout and then take the 1st, 2nd,3rd, etc road out of it. More likely problem is people on their phones or texting. When we were having lunch one day in Oz at an outdoor cafe we saw a trash hauler simply straightline the roundabout which he would have had a problem navigating anyway. When my nav system tells me turn here, I do check to see if there is a road there first. J.R.
