Pop-Ups

Rather interesting combination tonight---out board motors & adult products---different to say the least.

Add to that a sailing school in the Bahamas & diesel engine repower.

Good Morning!

Spring has sprung in my neck of the woods, but only by calendar and not the weather. In fact, we expect a cold spell in the next days.

The world has gone mad and there seems to be no end to the madness. Some stores only allow a certain number of people inside, which are required to keep a certain distance from the cashier. As a result, there is a line up with people standing closer together than before. Outside the store people flock together, waiting to get in. As certain goods are still not available, people rush to the stores to be the first one in when a delivery comes. Those required to self-isolate arestarnded without any supplies, as there are no services available to deliver what they need to survive. Merkel Country is falling apart rapidly and it won´t be long until we see plundering and looting. There is a new movement growing, which thinks that coughing at "old, white men" is fun and will help save the planet!

Yes, the layer of civilization is a rather thin one and wears off quickly in times of a crisis.

SeeYou190
Elderly people driving 60,000 pound Class A Recreational Vehicles with no sleep. This sounds like a disaster in the making.

I see that sheer madness is not only confined to my country, though it is not a comforting thought.

Here is something on the more enjoyable side!

Happy times!

Um... My pop-up of shocking value tonight was for a game that is "too popular to measure." A very adult-oriented game. Definitely not appropriate for a toy train forum.

The news reports that the only lanes open here are the "self-checkout" lanes. I do not know for sure. I am not leaving the house until I need to.

Good morning.

I bought paper towels this morning!

Ed, I do the books of the Los Angeles Times Sunday crosswords.  The word, "ort" seems to appear in every other puzzle, even referring to leftovers saved for the dog.

The layout is getting a lot of attention with me having to stay home.  At this rate, I might completely finish it in 35 years.

Have a good healthy day, everyone.

Good Morning All,

A regular to go please Zoe.

It may be spring but it is one of those dreary overcast dull early spring days much in keeping with the times. I did get some hours in on the layout last night trying to sort the lift out section so I can get on with the rest.

Hope you all are having a good day.    Ciao,  J.R.

Good morning .... This will be our 9th day of being hermits.

Ulrich ..... The California Zephyr video is a good. I did not watch all of it yet. As a kid, I could watch the CZ and other Zephyrs from where I lived. I also could watch GN and NP trains which operated on the Burlington between Cicago and St. Paul.

The Denver Zephyr was typically the longest of the Zephyrs, and was said to be the most profitable of passenger trains in the USA. Four E-units with 18 cars wouold be normal. (Below)

I rode on the Twin City Zephyr several times. (Below)

The Empire Builder was pulled by Burlington E-units on CB&Q. (Below)

John,

We are still hard at it in the shop. I have more than enough projects for the time being though a couple of customers have contacted me and asked that their work be put aside until things improve for them. I have one guy whos missus has respiratory issues not coming in for fear of bringing something home. I have one mechanic out doing self quarantine until at least the 23rd though he tested negative for the virus so far. Our handyman is out as well as he has a compromised immune system  but other than that we are at work. Not so bad as I imagined it would be. If someone does test positive we will shut down but so far so good. That said it is still early days with this so only time will tell.

Good Morning, Crew! Just checking in to let you that I'm still here and reading the posts. It's been five weeks since I had my right hip replaced and all is well. I'm able to walk a couple of hundred feet outside for exercise almost every day and can navigate the basement stairs, too. Thumbs Up In another couple of months I should be able to stand long enough and get back to work on my layout. On the first of next month I have an appointment with my surgeon and he may give me the go-ahead to drive again. It's a long recovery, but I have the patience and just need to keep up with my exercises so that I can continue to build my strength and stamina. Thanks, Guys! Smile, Wink & Grin

The LION is hiding under his bed. All you can see is the tuft of his tail, and the tip of his ear.

I had a dream where I had to take Ramu (a 400# tiger) to the clinic for saome lab work and the to the doctors office for some tratment. Othere were impressed with his behavor. The hardest par was getting in the front seat and putting the seat belt on him.l

Mornin' folks!

 Russ! YesYes

Jsut checking in as I have nothing else occupying my attention at the moment.  A bit bored being somewhat under voluntary quarintine......  Well, I am avoiding being out in crowds like they are suggesting (mandating) at the moment.

One reason I am being careful is that when I picked up the new toy a week ago I had to travel to Westchester County, NY.  Out of am abundance of caution I decided to not see my Lady Friend this week either.  Both of us being over 70 and I have some other risks such as Diabeties and High Blood pressure (both very well contriolled, but), I decided to stay pretty much home for a couple weeks.  Heck!  There isn't anything open to go to anyway.  Did get the NMRA Division Newsletter done and that is on line at this point.  Been yaking on the phone with my Lady Friend, Emailing a bunch of friends too.

Oh, my new toy!

Man is it fun to drive!  Charges very nicely right here at home.  Not as fast as the Superchargers in the Tesla network, but I can use those when I take a long trip easily.  The car will find and let you chose which ones and when you want to use them.  I looked down at one point when I was driving home and saw I was cruising along at 98mph....!!!  Ah, I slowed down quite a bit.  This car can get get away from me very fast! LOL  Handles beautifully, but I have quite a lot left to learn about it.

Say, what a nice car! And my favourite color, too! Congratulations, Ray!

The Tesla would not be my choice of car, though. It rides too low for my taste, making it difficult for me to enter. If I had the right kind of money, this would be my choice:

It´s an MG! Yes, an MG - the brand had been bought by SAIC, a joint venture of Volkswagen in China, producing the China range of Volkswagens in China. The MG is cheaper than VWs new ID3 EV, with the same built quality!  It´ll be sold only in China, other Asian markets and Europe.

Happy times!

I had an MGB.  If an MG isn't a rag-top convertible, it's just another look-alike sedan.

I quite agree. SAIC, the Chinese/German manufacturer, plans to capitalize on the brand name of MG, as Volkswagen wouldn´t allow it to be a Volkswagen.

Happy times!

Heartland Division CB&Q
Good morning .... This will be our 9th day of being hermits.

I don't know Garry, if I had your layout I think I would be a hermit all the time just as normal course of action. My wife practically needs to drag me away from the workbench as it is, and I don't like it when she does.

Today marks the end of our first full week of being hermits. It looks like I did a good job of shopping. The only thing we are running low on is shampoo. Other than that, we are OK for at least two more weeks, probably three.

The beach situation down here is getting bad.

People are refusing to stay off the beaches. The government has no authority over the private beaches above the high tide water line as per the State Constitution.

The governments have close all the public beach access points, parking lots, restaurants, bars, etc. all along the coasts. They are probably closing the hotels today.

However, all the condominiums are private, and they rent out apartments to spring breakers by the week. All the "Air BnB" beach houses have private beaches. All the kids have to do is congregate in front of the condominiums, and they can be on the beach.

The City of Fort Myers Beach has asked for help from other law enforcement agencies (Lee County Sheriff, Cape Coral Police, Fort Myers Police) to help enforce the "no-beach"rules.

Our Senator made a video begging the college kids to go back home. Our Governor has also asked them to leave.

Yesterday a group of locals "stormed" the beach at the Cape Coral Yacht Club, took down the barricades, and began lounging on the beach in protest.

The County brought in an excavator to tear up the road to Bunch Beach. The four wheel drive truck enthusiasts easily crossed it and had a huge bonfire. The Sheriff could not respond because the road was torn up.

Lovers Key is closed, it is a State Park, but hundreds of people are still going there in small watercraft.

Who knew the beaches would be the epicenter of civil unrest in all this?

Meanwhile, my neighborhood is still completely quiet.

The grocery store (physically a very big store) opened at 6 am for seniors and people at risk.  My neighbor went and said they were packed.  The self service check out line went from the front to back of the store.

How about a triumph?

Here is my favourite MG. It is an MGC GTS. Six were built with all aluminum bodies and aluminum heads. They raced at Sebring:

I had an MGC GT at one point. Foolishly I sold it instead of sitting on it until I could afford to restore it properly.

Of course, if I had kept it my all of my hobby money would have gone into it and you would have been denied the opportunity to experience my wit and humour! Aren't you glad I sold it?!?Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaughLaughClown

Thanks for the nice beverage, KEN!  Drinks Big Smile

It was nice to chat with you tonight. I read a little about Rolling Thunder CV settings.

You can either change the channel of the new B unit, probably the best choice,

CV 212 to 2,3 or 4

OR reduce the volume in CV 214 to 0. That should keep the B unit from transmitting so only the A unit is picked up by the reciever.

I'll get the CD with JMRI 4.19 on it to you ASAP, can you update your Java version too? I don't think I can load that onto a CD, you have to do it online.

I hope things work out OK for you.
