Ray, what is that numbering system you use?  2 for important business, 27, and 12, and the 73 in your signature?

Where does all of that come from?

Mike.

PS. TOP!  A Texas breakfast for all!

Mike, that is Phillips Code, aka Telegraph Code.  You can see the usual code meanings here: https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2014/01/88-or-how-telegraphers-coded-love-and-kisses/282850/

Some good news, anyway.  One of the local brewpubs is closed, but they are offering takeout, and they suggest adding a growler of fresh draft beer to your order.  I go for that idea.

I hope the tiny LHS is open.  I can't find my rail nippers, and I have to get off my butt and start getting my layout set up again.

Thanks Ray!  Now I get it.  Or 13.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Mike.

PS.  Something new started happing today, while looking at the different forums, and threads in here.

A small pop-up ad appears on the bottom of the screen.  Happens in Chrome, and Fire Fox.

You guys get all the fun! No pop-up here, but I am using Firefox beefed up with Adblock Plus and Privacy Badger, allowing me to see only the ads I want to see!

Heading for the hay and hoping for the times to improve. I am getting a bit weary of all these alarming news about the virus and the detrimental effects of the rather ineffective and sometimes even useless measures to stop the spreading of it. Good news is that our friend finally has sold her apartment - the contracts to be signed at a public notary on the 26th. If we could only travel to Denmark to go house hunting now!

CU tomorrow!

Happy times!

This one is very annoying. As was said, you need to chase the X around to close it, and it blocks your view of some things, so you cannot ignore it.

Mine all seem to be ads for RV accessories. It has been a decade since I had an RV.

My cousin is a senior Virology research Doctor in London and this was on her pipeline of updates.

How about some good news?

China has closed down its last coronavirus hospital. Not enough new cases to support them.

Doctors in India have been successful in treating Coronavirus. Combination of drugs used: Lopinavir, Retonovir, Oseltamivir along with Chlorphenamine. They are going to suggest same medicine, globally.

Researchers of the Erasmus Medical Center claim to have found an antibody against coronavirus.

A 103-year-old Chinese grandmother has made a full recovery from COVID-19 after being treated for 6 days in Wuhan, China.

Apple reopens all 42 china stores,

Cleveland Clinic developed a COVID-19 test that gives results in hours, not days.

Good news from South Korea, where the number of new cases is declining.

Italy is hit hard, experts say, only because they have the oldest population in Europe.

Scientists in Israel likely to announce the development of a coronavirus vaccine.

3 Maryland coronavirus patients fully recovered; able to return to everyday life.

A network of Canadian scientists are making excellent progress in Covid-19 research.

A San Diego biotech company is developing a Covid-19 vaccine in collaboration with Duke University and National University of Singapore.

Tulsa County's first positive COVID-19 case has recovered. This individual has had two negative tests, which is the indicator of recovery.

All 7 patients who were getting treated for at Safdarjung hospital in New Delhi have recovered.

Plasma from newly recovered patients from Covid -19 can treat others infected by Covid-19.

Amen to that! Petra had a long (very long, indeed) talk over the phone with her 86 year old mother, who is all in fear and panic, although she is a tough old gal, healthier than any of us. I think Petra was able to take some of that fear away.

No popups for me, other than the M-R one that covers the whole screen every now-and-then.

Just an observation about preventing the spread of the virus.

Officials tell us that we should maintain a 2m space between individuals yet when I see these frequent news conferences the people are all huddled in close proximity to the podium like scared rabbits.

I have to assume the foam wind screens on the microphones are subject to getting a little saliva droplets on them. Recently I observed two individuals place their hands together over the microphone while they had a close-in chat "off the record"!

Other speakers come to the podium and handle papers that were just exposed to (saliva sprayed?) the person who occupied that spot just moments before.

Doesn't make much sense to me... Somehow, there's this trend lately to try to stuff as many nodding heads into the camera frame behind the speaker as possible. WhisperWhisperWhisperWhisperSleep

All while they're preaching to us to keep our social distance?

Best wishes to all —

Finally, a minute to sit down. It is another sunny day and I need to get out in it but have been working on this estate thing all day. Was at the funeral home and her bank today both about an hour away so that took up a chunk of the day but all went smoothly. The law office has everyone working from home and that is slowing things down but we are making progress.Thumbs Up

It was a stunning day to go to Victoria yesterday to bug out the daughter from UVic. They cut so many sailings and it was most quieting to see all the vessels tied up at the terminals. I was on the 11:00 going over and we were on the 5:00 coming home. I bundled up and went right up on deck for the crossing and we did the same on the return trip, in fact, I sat in the exact same seat on the stern watching where we had been going both ways.

Image result for active pass

Whether I was a locomotive engineer going through the Rockies or a member of the bridge crew on a ferry, I could never get tired of the view and would be happy in my work. I have been on ferries in many parts of the world and nothing compares to the trip to Vancouver Island.

The truck was packed to the rafters with daughter stuff, it is unbelievable what she can accumulate. The kid just got off the plane with two massive suitcases and was good with the rest of his stuff being left in Ottawa. It is good to have them home. I was a little heartbroken with all the tears from the international students that had no way to get home. They will stay at the university and be well looked after.

While I was at the ferry terminal waiting they had researchers on the radio saying the corona has been lasting nine days on some surfaces and because of it lasting so long, they still don't have an outside timeline.

Living rural it is always very quiet here and easy to relax outside, but man it has been really really quiet the last couple of days. Even the cows must be hunkering down.Laugh

All the best to all.

Welcome Back Steve-O!

Zoe - A RBF please. Thanks.

Ulrich - Great news!

Covid-19 - While unconfirmed (not enough tests in this area) there are now 6 people under "sparkling isolation" in the area. (2 in NY state near the line, 4 in my home county of PA.) A local college (Mercyhurst, Erie Pa.) has a student (now home in NY state) confirmed to have it. Many more 14 day quarantines will be coming due to that.

96 people have been confirmed in PA to have Covid-19. Many of the newer cases have no known exposure point. (They do not know how or where they were infected.) {This stat is scaring health care personnel.} There have been no confirmed deaths in the state as of now.

The state of PA has closed all bars and restaurants except carry out service, has closed all state liquor stores, drivers services centers, all gyms, all rec centers, golf courses, bowling alley's, schools, and "non essential businesses" for a minimum of 2 weeks.
Grocery stores are out of TP, paper towels, Lysol, isopropyl, bleach, draino, bread, peanut butter, ketchup (why?), most dry and canned goods, lots of frozen foods, and most fresh meats.

No groups of 10 or more people, so all of my religious meetings are moving to virtual via Skype. (Through at least May 3rd.)

And, while "non essential" businesses are closed, for some reason auto repair is deemed "essential" business. That means my j*b as a delivery driver for auto repair parts, is also "essential" business.... Sigh Rats!!!! No "free vacation" for me.

Ray - I am like you, taking this virus very seriously. Most businesses and people in my area are not however.... That is annoying. I am getting to where I agree with the Italian Doctor who stated that he is fine with you being healthy, so long as you stop killing those who are not.

Trains - Still working on a couple of smaller modeling projects. Remodel progress has halted so the layout is still apart and will not be functional for the foreseeable future.

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the night!

Well, it's certainly going to get crazier before it gets better.  I just got a robo-call on my cell phone: "Congratulations! You've just been selected by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines . . ."  That's as far as the recording got before I hung up.  My wife thought it was hilarious.

Hello?  Who's minding the store?

Good Evening,

Another cool, sunny day here.

We have been busy getting everything we need to be able to stay home for 6 weeks minimum. We are just about there but have spent a lot of money. The new freezer is just about full and we have a lot of canned and dry food too, not to mention all the paper and other stuff. Oh well, we would have bought it later.

As far as the virus goes here we have 15 cases now, all travel related. It has been reported that in Manitoba they have done 3,000 tests so far. A good amount considering the population of the province is only 1.3 million. Winnipeg makes up 760k of that total. Last night on the news it was reported a total of 30k tests have been done in Canada so far.

I have a Red Caboose boxcar kit on the workbench and I have a couple of Branchline heavyweight sleeper kits if I get really bored. Those sleeper kits are quite complicated.

Keep well,

CN Charlie

I am occasionally getting those pop-ups. MR should be aware that some of the ads are crossing the lines of forum policies, by blatantly advertising in favor of political organizations, and by advertising for other web sites.  We, as forum members, are prohibited from such postings, and I think the site's advertising should be held to the same standards.

On the ads issue, it does seem like something changed recently, as when I turn off my adblock software it gives me a pop up along the whole bottom of the page, and they have zero to do with my browser cookies....

Maybe a server issue on the forum side?

Lots more changing on Covid in my area, and happening very fast.... We are quickly approaching full on lock down shelter in place mode.

I almost wonder if it was going around before they thought it was, because my symptoms from back at the beginning of the year when I ended up with pneumonia fit the bill almost perfectly. Thought I had a head cold, it went away, next week I went from thinking I had plain asthma issues on Thursday to thinking head cold again on Friday, to thinking flu Saturday morning, and was hospitalized by Saturday night. In about 60 hours I went from "ok" but with asthma issues to full blown pneumonia. (With a fever north of 103F.)

I had zero symptoms of anything for about 5 days prior to that. The Friday and Saturday before I had symptoms of a head cold, but they all vanished in 24 hours.

And went through 5 different antibiotics to cure the pneumonia....

So I really do not need this stupid virus now. (Again?)

Under the category: If we can't laugh, we would cry

I watch CNBC and their reporters no longer show up around one big desk.  Becky Quick and Steve Leisman report from what looks like their home.  A book shelf, side table, some stuff on the wall and maybe a picture.  Except the sound and lighting and video is absolutely perfect and the walls for each are an exceptionally unattractive yellow.

I imagine they are sitting in opposite corners of the same studio.  Tonights evening news anchors are on screen, but standing about 10' apart.

Best for last.   Who picked this outfit for this story?

Good Morning All,

A balmy 27F this morning - what happened to the approaching spring weather?

I agree, these popup ads are out of control. I may start contacting the advertisers directly to complain. That or just leave again until Dear Host comes to their senses. Do I rnenber correctly that I have to be a Kalmbach customer to be here in the first place? So in effect, I am paying twice for the privilige.

Did a little more last night on the one corner of the layout. Eventually it will get both a fascia and the swing down back drop like the other wall-less parts of the layout.

Good morning.  Bacon, eggs, and coffee.  Again.  I never get tired of breakfast.

Cold and rainy this morning.  I have to drag the dog outside - she hates the rain.  It will turn to snow later.

Still no ads here.  I really don't know why I'm not getting any.

The layout will see more work today as we are inside for at least several more days.  Snow, not virus.

Kalmbach is not the culprit! Google and other ad services are to blame. They hijack web pages - unless you have an effective ad blocking software installed. I don´t get any ads at all!

You don´t have to be a customer to participate in the forum. It´s a free of charge service.

Folks, Kalmbach Media is a business. We don't charge you anything to use this Forum, but it costs us money to host it, and to have paid employees administer it. So we have ads. If you block the ads, we don't make money from them, and the decision to not spend money hosting a forum inches that much closer.

The content of the ads is determined not by us, but by Google or whoever the particular ad service is. They base it on your search and browsing history. If you have the functions they use to track you turned off, they base them on everyone else's search and browsing history, and who knows what ads you'll get.

Now, that's all the discussion of ads on this Forum that we're going to have. I've deleted two threads about it on the main page just this morning, and don't mind deleting more. Now let's talk about something else.

Good morning !

Now, there is an ad I can look at all day long ! It is for the Rocky Mountaineer. My wife and I did ride on the Rocky Mountaineer from Vancouver to Calgary several years ago. One of my best experiences ever !

Steve O ........ Thanks for explaining how things are regarding ads.

....

Yesterday, we stocked up on more food. We went to a Kroger store in Murray where  we could shop on-line before going there. They bring it to your car. This minimizes contact with people. While there, we filled the car at the Kroger gas station. Regular was $1.84.9 per gallon, and our Kroger card subtracted 20 cents from that. Regular, therefore, was $164.9.

This was the first time we left the house since last Wednesday, and we are prepared to be here several weeks if needed. Of course, we hope and pray things will improve much quicker than predicted by 'the experts".

Everybody......... Have a good day.

I made the shepards hook from 1/2" rebar.  The cups for the grape jelly are plumbers test caps, from Menards plumbing dept.

Gloomy day here in SE WI. rain moving in, snow went north, thankyou!
