Please tell me if I'm boring you people

I don't think that's possible.  Please keep posting and keep the diner lively.

The diner is being restocked for the long road ahead :

ATSF_diner_72 by Edmund, on FlickrPlenty of food and drink for everyone — and this is what you will be welcomed by when you come into the diner! ATSF_placesetting_72 by Edmund, on Flickr Allow the steward to seat you and your waiter will be by shortly to pick up your meal order, written orders only, please.

But no one paid attention. Glad that's OK with you, TF.

No, not a war hero, or even a guy remembered as a soldier.  The tallest guy on the boat went off first, to see how deep the water was.  It was 6 foot 6 James Arness, late Matt Dillon of Gunsmoke.

That's a neat story, Mr. Beasley. Then the little guys got picked for "Tunnel Rat" duty. Something that I know would scare the britches off me!

I hope everyone is well this evening, Ed

My father took some shrapnel in the shoulder at the Anzio Landing in January, '44. He recovered in a hospital in the north of England then went back to France to finish his service.

     Thank you,

          Ed

My Dad served in the Army Air Corps in WW2.  He has an older brother who was shot down over France, in WW1.

Here's a bit of trivia.  Who was the first guy off the landing craft at Anzio?

No, not a war hero, or even a guy remembered as a soldier.  The tallest guy on the boat went off first, to see how deep the water was.  It was 6 foot 6 James Arness, late Matt Dillon of Gunsmoke.

That's sounds great! When I lived along Lake Erie fifty-some years ago we did the same with lake whitefish.  Where I live now we do it with speckled trout with meuniere (butter) sauce. Its all good.

But maybe you could refrain from statements that are patently not true.

I watched the news on the ABC channel tonight, and after a week, they finally got the facts right in the story about the beach closures, and how the governent has no authority to close a beach in front of a hotel, condominium, or residence. They can keep you out of the water.

The next wave of Spring Breakers showed up today. Not as many staying in the hotels as last week, but the beaches in front of the condominiums are full again.

All the public beaches are closed, and hundreds of protestors are out chanting and waving signs. They are claiming the first amendment gives them the right to protest ON THE BEACH, but the Sheriff says no. Oh well. For some reason they were dressed up like Native Americans.

The crowds just moved a hundred yards inland.

The Cape Coral Police are away enforcing the beach closings. The Cape Coral authorities have asked everybody to behave tonight while they are away. Who knew you could prevent crime just by asking? I guess we do not need a police force.

We are running low on butter. I just opened the last package.

I couldn't resist. FDT had some of the new "updated" versions at a sale price. I figured I needed another one to handle my Congressional Limited so I jumped in.

SeeYou190
A lot of what is described in these interviews made it into the landing scene of Saving Private Ryan.

Another great movie with the caveat that a little more "Hollywood" slipped in here and there. I'm trying to recall if it was Ryan or another film, possibly a Ken Burns documentary, where D-Day soldiers were giving their recollections. Nearly brought me to tears Embarrassed.

I just finished watching Tolkein. A very good movie— and there are some heart-wrenching scenes of The Great War in there.

Cheers! Ed

Good evening all.

Zoe - A big RBF please. Thanks.

Ken - You were a LEO before, still have any buddies in it? You could give an anonymous tip to friend about the store.... Whistling

Birds - Definitely have the eagles back in the area, as one was spotted again.

Covid-19 - Close to 500 cases in the state now, with a 3rd in Erie County now. This one they are unsure of where the "contact point" was. They are aware that many cases are of unknown origin. They are also stating that "community spread" cases are sharply increasing in the state.

The state health department has stated that people are not taking this seriously enough, and that 20-40 year olds are the biggest spreaders and positive testers right now in the state.

My small town has had the National Guard deployed to it, closing parks, trails, and shutting down government buildings to the public. (Courthouse, public works office, etc...) And they will be used to help force close (along with LEO's) non-compliant businesses first thing Monday morning. Any businesses foolish enough to not comply risk losing their business license, along with being fined, and owners possibly arrested.

Due to the fact that many are still not listening to direction from the government, I feel that PA will soon be joining the list of "shelter-in-place" states.

W*^k - Somehow we are still deemed "essential", or now, "life-sustaining" in our operating. Car parts are life-sustaining? I get the fuel, but the sales of that have tanked with the schools, car dealers, and now logging being shut down. (Biggest fuel customers were school transportation, local dealerships, and loggers.) Car part orders have really slowed as well.

Due to the virus, I will no longer be delivering to now a few different garages, 5 in NY state (shutdown by the shelter-in-place order) and one in PA due to their refusal to comply with the "stay home if sick" directive.

Trains - No further progress to report, but I did post a pic in WPF. I will be most likely starting another kit this week, between down time. Then I will have a few to weather, and can crank up the spray booth on a nice day for more than one or two items.

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the night!

He enlisted even though he was thirty years old, had an engineering degree, a wife, and two sons. I can't imagine that kind of sense of duty and service.

 Afternoon Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk half a dog treat.

The Store is open today and no one cares. Not one person has came in to the store. My self, I am thinking about parking in back of the store where no one can see my car and leave the open sign off. I am not afraid of getting sick, well just a tad but not much. Still drives me nut's the owner think's he can do what ever he wants! Bang Head

Caught another Possum today. That makes Raccoon, possum, raccoon and possum. I let this one go in a old cemetery that is not close to any houses and looks like it is from the revolutionary days according to the plaque.

Walmart Neighborhood Market Places was pretty deserted today. Will not say it was well stocked but had every thing I was looking for including Spam!Big Smile Did some shopping for Mary my 86 year old neighor and she did not fair as well. She is down to 3 roll's of T/P and not a roll in the store. Could not find the dog food she wanted either.

Later, Ken and Dirk say's woof, woof.

I'm sorry you never knew your Grandfather Kevin He's the block of the person you're from I'm sure he was a great man

I am sure he was fascinating. I met many retired veterans from his time when I was growing up.

My DVD copy has a second disk of interesting bonus material. Sometimes these interviews and behind-the-scene shorts are just as interesting as the feature.

I have watched the Bonus Disk from The Longest Day more often than the feature.

A lot of what is described in these interviews made it into the landing scene of Saving Private Ryan.

My grandfather passed when I was less than one year old, so I do not remember him. I have been told he always said he was lucky not to be in France on D-Day because he would have only lasted 4 minutes instead of 4 days.

I recently finished another viewing of "The Longest Day" which is on my list of 100 favorites. My DVD copy has a second disk of interesting bonus material. Sometimes these interviews and behind-the-scene shorts are just as interesting as the feature.

The numbers of deaths in Germany are vastly different (less) than even South Korea. 24K infected and only 92 deaths. How can that be?

All but 1 were people already hospitalized with very serious illnesses. The post mortem showed that they also were infected with the SARS-CoV 2 virus. Most of them were also 75 years of age and older. Out of the 24k people having been confirmed to be infected, I don´now how big the number of people actually being seriously ill is. Quite a lot are in self-isolation, but will be whisked off into intensive care should they develop strong symptoms. There seems to be a sufficient number of intensive care places available, as we "import" serious cases from France.

No doubt that the virus is still spreading rapidly, but how dangerous it actually is, seems to vary vastly from country to country. That must have something to do with the state of health care in each country. We know that Italy is in quite a bad shape. Years of EU imposed budget cuts have ruined the public health sector. Add to that the fact that the hub of the infections is in the heavily industrialized north of Italy, which has the worst air quality in the entire EU, leaving the region with a vast number of people with respiratory issues. Furthermore, Italians have an intensive family and social life, much more than any other country in Europe. What makes me wonder, that Taiwan seems to be the least "infested" Asian country, in spite of the proximity to mainland China and millions of people having traveled back and forth for  the Chinese New Year celebration. Taiwan seems to have been well prepared for this pandemic, and so was Japan. The governments of both countries appear not to run around like headless chickens and imposing rather ineffective, mostly useless, and sometimes adverse measures.

Happy times!

Thanks, Ulrich. Can't agree with you more. Her-in-doors and I are happy she’s home, though panic buying is now happening here; morons agitated by an irresponsible media.
On a brighter note my daughter says she will return to Germany when the dust settles, she liked the German people she met.

Jimmie I don't think I've seen the Nascar Monster girls once this year.  They broadcasted an I Race once before.  At least this time I will know who the drivers are.  Hard for me to get excited about sports that simulate athletic endeavors.

Rand Paul has tested positive as has Angela Merkels' doctor and all three of them are in quarantine.  I have only seen 1 person I know say on social media she knew someone personally with Covid.

I also saw a tweet (no idea if it was true) from a person who said they are all wearing masks and practicing social distancing in Hong Kong but no one is on a lock down.

The numbers of deaths in Germany are vastly different (less) than even South Korea.  24K infected and only 92 deaths.  How can that be?
