You should pick up a few T34-85s for your platoon. An 85mm gun and rounded turret cheeks were rather frustrating for opposition, if I recall correctly...

Can someone please explain how 'McDonald's' is considered "life sustaining"?Maybe the economy can expect a big boom, now that everyone is so obsessed with 'Zoom'. While cleaning the pantry I found my last yam, but why on earth did I buy so much canned 'Spam'? I sold my free tickets to a now cancelled show, and gas is so cheap when I have nowhere to go. Stuck inside is where I am found, because there is no 'Purell' for miles around. Help this virus not to roam, Do your part and Just Stay Home!

You're probably right but not me, I thought tanks were really neat when I was a kid and I still do
We used to build the Revell 1/32 model kits when we were kids We really got into it, we would heat up the handle of a kitchen knive and put dents in them, paint silver for scraped paint, rust and grime to make them look realistic, much like I weather MR buildings these days
I still find myself looking at those tank models I built when I was a kid when I'm at the hobby store I know if I get one I'll take away from my railroad modeling but maybe I should get one anyway
My favorite tanks were the Sherman and the Tiger 1 but then again my favorite movie at the time was Kelly's Heroes That movie had all the great actors and kind of a unique movie for Clint Eastwood, they got the Gold in the end

The covid crisis doesn't even begin to come close to any war I've studied. My father was on an evacuation troop ship at Guadalcanal, ferrying wounded to Austrailia. He never told me, but my uncle said there were POW's too. None of the POW's made it to Australia.
I spent some time at the National Archives and the US Navy Museum at the DC Naval Yard searching through records to confirm the story. Records are incomplete and I found nothing but the head of the museum thought it was a probable story. I've read extensively about the war in the Pacific and it was pretty grim.
Killing of POW's happened in the Revolution the Civil War, WW1, 2 Korea Vietnam and probably every other war.

Kevin - apparently you have forgotten that I am German. Members of my family fought at the eastern front. None of them returned, although having been captured by the Red Army. None of them were fascists or those "goosesteppers" you chose to make fun of. They were fathers, husbands, or sons who had been drafted to,fight a war which wasn´t theirs, like most of the Wehrmacht soldiers.
I am really offended by your unthoughtful post.

SeeYou190I have been nocturnal since I quit working. I have been staying up until 4:00 in the morning and sleeping until noon. This is the life!
For 45 years I got up at 5:30 a.m., and when I retired 3 years ago, I quit setting the alarm.
It doesn't matter. I still wake up at 5:30 a.m. My wife doesn't get up until hours later. It gives me time to exercise, a leisurely breakfast, and time on the layout before she requires my time.

I don't have any pictures of those tanks, I packed them away already.
I do have plenty of T-34s I can take pictures of... I think I have well over 100 T34s.
I do not paint my tanks (or my trains for that matter) in historically accurate schemes. Mine are much more cool looking.

These are some 1941 model T-34s. This column advances hen-and-chick, and is usually gone by turn three. However, every once in a while they can find some Wehrmacht troopers without armour support, and then they drill through those goosesteppers like a spade bit through balsa:

These T34s are part of the Siberian Guards company, and are fitted with the high-velocity 57mm anti-tank cannon. They are ready to patrol and snack on some disgusting fascist kitty-cats. They like Panthers best. Those make a funny crunching noise as they get chewed up:
Of course, you can't be a hero without a bad guy, so here are a few. I don't know how the Tiger commander lost his head, but I liked it, so it has not been fixed yet.
I could post hundreds more pictures of my armies, but I think the diners are already tired of seeing them.

Sunny and a warm 55F here. Feels like summer.
We are planning a final grocery run for tomorrow morning. We want to get our supplies up to a 2 month level. The new fridge is working fine, so ready to be filled. Sure is a stressful time.
I'm fine with Golden, B.C. I've been there several times over the years all for business as we had a store there. It isn't too far to Revelstoke which was a CP Division Point and is home to a great RR museum. They have a restored Mike inside. Golden is a skiing spot and I suppose April isn't too late for that if there are any in the Diner so inclined.
Yesterday I went out to the store where we buy bird seed and I think we have enough seed to get us through migration. I have about 200lbs. of shelled sunflower seed on hand. It is more expensive than the black oil stuff but there is no mess. Black oil seed casings kill vegitation.
I was wondering about Batman too.
Time to do something.

I gotta tell you, it's so nice working in the building I live in, this ceiling and plumbing repair is12ft outside my door
I first cut a small hole where the stain was by the wall but the leak had travelled about two feet over so the hole got bigger before I found it
You can see the new compression fittings on the 3/4 pipe that returns to the boiler from the 3-inch main circulation pipe
This one is a bathroom floor repair and redo on the third floor It's no wonder it lasted this long as it was done improperly in the 70s
The nice thing is I can go home and grab a sandwich while I'm waiting 45 minutes for the Kilz to dry over the partially rotten wood before I put the floor creat back on
It's so easy to juggle jobs when they're all in the same building

Just imagine how smelly life was aboard a German U-Boat after weeks and weeks on the hunt in the North Atlantic! My English teacher, a Bosun´s Mate on one of these death traps, once told us it took him a day in a bathtub and a bottle of some nice smelly stuff to get rid of the odor acquired during the "Feindfahrt".
I was in a better position during my service - I had my own shower on board my boat. But then my boat wouldn´t be able to resurface, once it would have gone down.

Yes indeed, there are a group of people who don't believe in washing regularly. We had such a person in our group in the Navy. If you can imagine spending 12 hours a day 7 days a week cooped up in a little tiny room with 6 other people and this individual at less than arms length away you can understand why we helped him develop better hygiene habits. After one watch ended a few of us "helped" him into the shower and soaked him down stinky clothes and all. We didn't even get written up for it after we explained the how and why of it...

This morning's crisis: the dog jumped on me begging for some breakfast and his dewclaw got caught in my fleece pocket zipper. I grabbed his paw, but he had the jacket pulled too tight and twisted for me to see well enough to free him.
He's part beagle, the drama queen. He was screaming. My wife thought we were playing. Eventually she came over and decided his collar was the problem and unclipped that. Now I was holding an empty collar in one hand and a slippery paw stuck in the zipper in the other. Eventually she helped me take off the fleece and freed Toby.
In this era of handwashing, the History Guy did a youtube on soap. While it was invented in antiquity, it's not clear either the Greeks or Romans used it for hygiene, prefering pumice.
It was widely used in the Middle Ages, but by the 17th century bathing was though to open the pores to disease and Louis 14th was said to smell like a wild animal. It is not true (we think) that he only ever took 3 baths in his life.
