Yup. One of my power cars was lugging around a track spike on its undercarraige.
Witch reminds me... I must remove the magnets from the power cars and attach thenm elsewhere in the consist. Thes powerful magnets disturb the operation of the motors.
LION uses reed switches for signalling, thus each train needs a magnet.

My Dad smoked cigarettes from when he was a teen until the cigarettes killed him at 56.
I never saw any reason to go near smoking.
When I mapped out my circuit breakers in my old house, I generated the diagram for all of them on my computer, so I could refresh the picture every now and then, or when something changed that I had to document.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Honestly I have seen more of my older friends die because they changed what they were doing their whole life.
You don't just take 45-50 years and change it and do something else when your body is used to doing what you were doing, even if it's bad.
Your body is used to the fuel you gave it after all those years. Change it at that point and you WILL change it.
You could argue this one with me until I'm blue in the face and you would not win.
I been to too many funerals.
howmusI was a pipe and cigar smoker for several years.
My dad smoked cigars constantly when I was young. He used to measure a road trip by how many cigars it took to get there. It took five cigars to get to the cottage. He also never believed in opening a window. I used to get car sick on every trip. I wonder if there was a relationship between that and the cigar smoke?!?

HarrisonWe got dumped with almost 2 feet the other day.
Over here in the Finger Lakes we only got about 7" of the white stuff, but it was on top of about a 1/4" of ice.... Of course we seldom get "Lake Effect" on the West side of Seneca Lake (the folks on the East Side actually sometimes will get Lake Effect Snow over there from Seneca Lake), but you folks in the North Country often get some monster snow falls! Nice for snowshoeing and cross country sking, but I would rather not have to shovel out that much... LOL
It was that ice that my Sister fell on and ended up with an open wound. She had about 6" of bone protuding from her leg just above the ankle. She is recovering at Strong Hospital and expects to be moved to Rehab sometime in the next day or two. Have no idea when she will be discharged and sent home.

I was a pipe and cigar smoker for several years. Picked up the habit from my FIL. What got me to quit was when my 4 year old son (my youngest) asked me, "Daddy, why do you tell the kids at school not to smoke when you do?" I mumbled something about pipe and cigars are not harmful just cigarettes (which I knew to be a lie...). And he said, "Uh huh?"
Next day I went to light up a cigar, thought about the lie I had told my son, blew out the match and tossed the cigar in the trash unlit. After I got home from school I rounded up every bit of tobacco I had stashed around the house and threw it in the trash and took the trash out to the garbage can! That was about 45 years ago.... Since then I have smoked three cigars. Two in honor of my FIL at his funeral (the guys went outside and finished off the last box of cigars he had), and one in honor of the memory of a great Scouter from camp, Skip. He was known for his walking the trails at camp smoking his cigars. I still have the stub of that cigar in a glass vial in a drawer.... That was the last one, and....... I didn't really have any interest in starting up again.

Judy and I went out to the work truck this morning to run our errands. A bit hungover as we were is usually normal.
We always have Monday off together and have been known to tip a few too many beers together on a Sunday Night.
The engine light was on the dash of my truck this morning and stayed on, ... Damper on the day Damper on the day.
So I called my friend Damien my personal mechanic. It was a thermostat sensor. The computer said something was wrong but there was no Dire Straight emergency. Damian told me it was no problem and it could be fixed later.
Damper on the day Damper on the day.
Judy agreed we should go home and park the truck and let it sit until we can fix it.
I got to relax at home with my truck today too
I really do love my mechanic!
I did get A. SAEZ packaged up though.

I bought the same brand smoke detectors and they have a different base and a different connector. It wasn't a problem to find the circuit for the one I changed. I have a chronic rotator cuff tear and I was just barely able to do it as working above my head is extremely tiring and I start to shake.
Forgot the best part. They had spray painted the open electrical boxes. When I unscrewed the wire nuts for the smoke detectors, paint and run into the wire nuts and I had to take a dremel and knock the the paint off the wires.
I have the master bedroom, and 8 switches in the kitchen to do and then I'm calling it quits. The outside deck light is on the upstairs circuit, even though it's a ground floor level light.

Good morning from the edge of the Salish Sea where it is 0c and another beautiful day.
Did half a work out on the bike, a 600 calorie burn which goes completely against my nature and I found it hard to stop. The body tunes in to repetition and then turns off things it finds it doesn't use. That can mean weight gain and muscle atrophy, so it is best to keep it guessing. We will go for another long walk as well today as I have all the time in the world.
The Canucks are on tonight so I will be doing pushups and situps and leg raises in the commercials in between sips of Glenlivet. I try and do a hundred of each through the course of the game.
My buddy wanted me to go snowshoeing with him yesterday, I wish I had gone. In the past, I have climbed to the top of those two peaks you see, it is spectacular up there. It is only a twenty-minute drive from downtown Vancouver up into these mountains for some of the best hiking anywhere. He knows how to rub it in when I don't go and of course I do the same to him when he bails on me.
Lion, shorts can be a mystery indeed. The one I had once was caused by a Kadee spring migrating into a set of points. Switches are always the first thing I check with my superduper magnifying glass.
Did not get out to dinner last night as my wife got a call from a good friend whose dog just collapsed. The wife talked her through a resuscitation on the phone and then took off to the emergency clinic to meet them there. Dog ate something, don't know what but likely a dead mouse or rat that someone used poison on. One thing about poisons they affect the surrounding environment including other living things, not just that one mouse that is a pest. Ther mouse likely ate the poison and wandered down the street to our friend's house before expiring where the dog would find it.
Henry, visiting Easter Island is on my to-do list. It is very expensive to go there unless you are on a cruise, so I told the wife that I will go on a cruise if it goes to Easter Island and/or the Panama Canal.
We have three built-in smoke detectors and I recently changed them out. It was a nice surprise finding the plugs were still compatible after all the years that had past. Had them swapped in no time. We also have eight battery-powered ones and the one supplied by ADT that also has a CO2 and heat sensor in it. The CO2 detector in our bedroom saved our lives according to the fire dept and furnace company when the heat exchanger failed in our seven-year-old Carrier furnace.
I had 200amp service with a big new panel put into the house in 1996 when I moved in. The BIL did it as he is an electrician so I set about labelling the thing with a permanent marker, it wasn't so permanent as it has faded so badly you can't read it. I will do it again as that is one thing the home inspector points out when you sell your house.
Well, it is shower, trainroom, lunch, walk, dinner, Hockey game.........bed. Can I stand the strain.

There is a short between the +16v dc circuit (signals and relays) and the +~v dc Third Rail circuit (Track Power)
I have unplugged the 16v transformer and I tested between ground and the 16v bus.
Test 1 Yes voltage was present.
Test 2 20' down the bus, I cut the bus wire, 0v to the left 12v to the right, I repaired the cut
Test 3 andother 20 feet down the bus. Same result
Test 4 another 10' down the bus bus ends and is jummpped over to the second table. Table 1 = 0v; Table 2 = 12 v
At this point work stopped: it was time to go to vespers. I will need a mirror to look behing the facias to see what is there before I move to table 2 to continue my search.
Well at least I do not have to search wire by wire for the issue.

TF, that was the first week after I retired. The next day I had to find something else to do. About six months later, I decided to try railroading. I haven't worked on the house since!
Walked at the field house this morning, and the college track team has started practicing. The pole vaulters were working. It sure makes walking in circles less boring having something to watch.

Spent the day with the Crazy Lady Nancy at work. At one point we had a Hispanic Woman that did not speak english apply for credit. She could not understand the application questions (it is a pain in the caboose if you read english) so she gave up trying to fill it out. Nancy tried to get $5.00 out of her for a depoist but failed. Lady left her half filled out application with her phone number. After she left Nancy said "Call her Monday"! I ponited out "Nancy, she does not speak English?" Nancy said "So, you can still call her." Yep that is going to help!

I love the Bear-toon! I have been known to dress like a pirate for the Saint Petersburg/Tampa Bay Gaspirilla Pirate Days. Great fun. Yarrrr!
I started at Zitnik's Trains this morning. I left the house at 5:00 to get there. I found some cool stuff, but the best was this assortment of Floquil paints for $2.00!
That is two bottles of Grimy Black, two Locomotive Black, and lots of light gray for primers. What a score!
I went to Capital Tacos for lunch. This is a must-visit eatery if you are ever in the Tampa area. They have eight locations now. They serve Austin Style tacos and nachos. The flavors are amazing.
I had the "Augari" nachos. Grilled jalepenos, mango, pickled onion, salsa verde, cilantro, and grilled steak. Truly an amazing dish. They have about 30 different topping combinations on the menu and all can be had as tacos or nachos.
It was 75 degrees outside and clear blue skies, so we ate outside.
Later we went to one fo the beaches in Saint Petersburg and strolled in the white sand for a few hours. Pure bliss.
Everyone stay safe. Happy Sunday!

Living the dream.
60 minutes is especially good tonight. The 1st segment was gold mining in S Africa, a 4500' elevator ride straight down.
Second segment is about an Oklahoman woman who was into falconry, and went to Mongolia to learn about eagle hunting.
You need to catch a rabbit and a crow. Stake them both out. The eagle sees the wimp crow with a rabbit and swoops down. There is a net involved and that captures the eagle. The female eagles are the best hunters and the normal Mongolian hunters are non diverse group of men.
Their tribe, it that is the proper word, is down to 300. Mongolia also has 2 hump camels, also down to 1000 animals.
The last segment is Easter Island. I saw that segment when it was first broadcast and nothing struck me new.
Good afternoon from the Eastern edge of the Pacific basin. It was a beautiful sunny day today and the wife and I took the dogs for a three-hour hike/walk through the woodlands. When does a walk become a hike anyway?
Came home and had hours in the train room working on the water tower and other things. It feels good to be building a kit again, that whole roundhouse/turntable project took just a little too long for my liking. Anyway, life is good, can I stand the strain.
I have been retired for 11 years and the wife quit about 7 years ago and it has been a good time. When I was busting my butt at work I use to wonder if those eighty-hour workweeks would really pay off, well they did in spades. I use to think that the day was a write off because of going to work, so I thought I may as well put 16 or 20 hours in while I am here as it is more productive than sitting in front of the idiot box.
Sister is lovin Costa Rica and is sending tons of pics, I think we need to get there next year.
Haven't heard a peep from the kids today, it is exam week so that means they are studying hard.
The kid got three job offers yesterday, two of them quite interesting.
I think we may go out for Greek tonight at our favourite Greek joint where we can eat lamb, drink a good red and gaze out over the Pacific.

Don't feel bad, they are never correct Mr. B. Mystery circuit sounds good compared to some of the labels I've seen.
When inspectors inspect a circuit board they Only look to see if everything's labeled. They don't have time to check and see if everything is labeled correctly, so they never do. Therefore they never are.
When I bought this house, I was glad to see all the breakers were neatly labelled. Unfortunately, "neat" does not necessarily mean "correct." I have already found a couple of mistakes.
In my old house, I had more service brought in and the breaker panel had to be changed. Everything got moved around, so I laboriously relocated every circuit. There was one I never found, so I labelled that breaker "Mystery!" and left it that way.
Post-Hog Post-Hog TF's on top again.

When I need to figure out what circuit I'm working on I just plug a hairdryer into it and go downstairs and flip breakers until I hear the hair dryer go off.
Don't get me wrong though, a guy always needs something to do. I'm always looking for something to do instead of wasting my time watching TV or something like that
Good Afternoon,
A nice day here. I just got back from the gym and did about 2.5 miles so I'm a little tired.
As far as electrics go, I don't have much knowledge. Our house still has many circuits on fuses. I had a master electrician go through it some years ago as I was concerned and he said to keep the fuses. He said they are more accurate than breakers. There is a sub-panel for the basement with breakers as it was wired later. We still have many light switches on the main floor that are original to the house from its 1960 build. They are silent ones and still work great. That electrician said they were top of the line at the time and there was no need to change them. Strangely they are made in England.
I see in the paper where Mirella Freni passed away. We heard her sing Fedora at Covent Garden along with Jose Carreras in 1994. It was a marvellous production.
Well time for something,
CN Charlie
BigDaddyWonder what circuit they will be on. The upstairs hall lights were marked basement, and the open short circuit in the guest bedroom and bath was marked master bath.
I faced the same problem. Finally, last summer, I spent an entire day going to every single outlet and light in the house, tracking down which breaker was which. My house met all codes for the time it was built, but I did update certain things.
