I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
hon30critter BATMAN What is the shelf life of contact cement anyway? Apparently it is shorter than the length of time that you have kept the can! Sorry, couldn't resist Dave

Good morning from the West Coast where it is 10c and is a nice pleasant day.
I have a lot of friends and family that have had careers in various fire depts and in the RCMP. It is a hard life for both. I have lost three people that were with the Fire service that I was close to, all from heart-related issues caused by stress and exposure to the chemical soups that they walk into. First responders are heroes in every way as far as I am concerned. Two died in their fifties on the job and one at 63 two months after retirement.
When we host sledge hockey tournaments for wounded warriors that come from all over the planet, the firefighters show up and work hard to make sure the event is a big success. No better people anywhere.
The kid has two FB pages, one his personal one and the other is a professional page for his movie and TV work. Apparently he has photos of me and him on them. So he gets a call from a casting director he has worked with asking if his Dad is still skinny and fit? He says ya and so she calls me and asks if I want to do a three-day shoot for a men's suit company? I have talked to this lady quite a few times when the kid was working a lot and she is a hoot. I say, well the body is probably OK but what are you going to do about the face? Her reply was, well you have been on set with the kid and you can see what we can do with makeup. She said finding fit old guys is becoming more of a challenge every day. The movie/TV industry is suffering a real labour shortage right now and is screaming for people and will take anyone, even me.
The shoot pays $4000.00 and I get to keep the suits they make for me. I have worn a suit twice in the last 20 years, so the suit thing does nothing for me. Three long days of getting up a 0400hrs, driving all the way into Vancouver for what will be three 12 hour days. After expenses and income tax I might end up with half that. I have time to think about it so we will see.
I don't sleep the best anyway, so it gives me something to do. Even when I was working, 5 hrs of sleep was rare. My work habits still get me up at 4:30 am, 7 days a week, and it doesn't matter what time I go to bed. Getting a little better at going back to sleep for at least another hour.
Lion, FDNY pictures. In the mid 80's, I was a WI. certified fire service intructor. One of the conferences we went to, a presenter from the FDNY was there, and showed us similar pictures, plus a lot more things that the FDNY deals with.
They were/are the dept. that a lot of us little small town firefighters seen as heroes, and we all wanted to be like FDNY, along with the Boston fire dept.
Fire House magazine and Fire Engineering were always filled with their "On the job" stories.

LION wakes up once or twice. Him has a tank of cherry bug juice strapped to the head of his bed. When him wakes up him has a drink of bug juice abd goes right back to sleep. I guess it just depends on how you sleep. ROAR

Unfortunately what goes in has to come out. And if one happens to sleep through the “comes out” iteration, one will find oneself awash in a sea of cherry bug juice w/o a canoe.

Do not get in the way of the FDNY...
Good morning. Coffee, bacon, and eggs!
The dentist's office! Just mentioning it makes the day seem a little darker.
Cedarstrand, hopefully you will get good news from the test results.
Ulrich and all the other old guys here -- getting up in the middle of the night seems to be our curse. The other night, I had several adult drinks before eating, then several glasses of water. I was up five times. Thankfully, I don't have trouble going back to sleep. I hope you get some relief.
Ulrich, does the doctor believe that part of your heart issue is caused by stress? Or is your stress partially caused by the heart issue? Hopefully you can get a settlement of the estate, make a move, and get stress and worry out of your life. If those things don't happen, I hope something else will work out.
This computer difference is interesting. It's funny that different computers and browsers give different results for the same site. If you guys type in "cs.trains.com" in the address bar, what page opens? When I do that, it goes directly here:
The layout continues to go slowly. I guess that's why it's a good hobby for me. I'm slow, too.
I always clicked on the forum from the drop down menu off of Community. Clicking on Community does do what I wanted it to do.
My hygenist said I had a lot of tartar and poked and probe with those sharp stainless tools and then worked me over with that ultrasound thing which is like fingernails on a blackboard, except it's in your mouth.

I do the 1 am walk too!, then lay around till at least 2 or 3 am before I fall asleep, most times.
Hang in there Rob! My ailments are nothing.
I'm always logged in through Chrome, but when I click on MR in the favorites list, I go to the Home page. From there I point at community, and in the drop down, I click on Forums, then I usually start with General Discussions, and work my way through the forums.
It's the same on my laptop, I've never had an Iphone, so using the forums through a phone would be new to me.
If I click on Community, I go to Recent Activity, there I see the latest post in each thread, and I can go to the last post.
Hi all... crazy week going on here at work. Hope things will be back to normal soon. Too busy to do much of anything, but best wishes to all.

Living the dream.
CederstrandUlrich, have you been able to do anything model train wise during these health problems?
Nothing at all! I am in the process of disposing of my train stuff. Not everything, I will keep a few bobs and bits to remind me of better times. The rest will be donated. I tried to sell it, but there was no response.
Happy times!

Will have the insomnia special, please and thank you!
***Henry, at least I slept through the surgery. The constant blood draws and new IV lines were not so mucch fun. Still, who enjoys a trip to the dentist? Rant away!
***Ulrich, have you been able to do anything model train wise during these health problems? Sorry, out of the loop for too long here. Wishing you and yours all the best as always.
Cheers! Rob
BigDaddymade the mandatory trip to the bathroom at 1 am and have been up ever since.
That´s my fate as well, leaving me dead tired around noon each day.
Good Morning!
I have not been posting much in the past days. There is too much to chew on and mull over. First, I seem to develop serious health issues that need to be dealt with. The old ticker has gone out of sync and needs to find back to the correct rythm. All attempts have yet failed. Docs say a pacemaker won´t do it either. Second, our friend down south is getting cold feet with regard to the projected move to Denmark. She goes on and about the same issues. I guess she won´t be able to adjust to the new situation as easily as she thought she would. For the moment, I have stepped on the brakes and given up on her joining us. Which leaves us with the question where to go to. We need to come to a decision before h*ll breaks loose in this country. The only hope we have is that my parents´ estate provides us with some funds to have an option. Have not heard anything from that side, yet, which leaves us in limbo. I have little hope that anything substantial will come out of it, as my brother will make sure of that.
I better go hide some place.
Found it. Went to check my messages and then clicked Home on my laptop and got this.
Cedarstand that's as serious as it gets. Hope the biopsy results are good. I was going to complain about my visit to the dentist yesterday, but that's small potatoes compared to your biopsy.
I was really tired and went to bed at 8 pm, made the mandatory trip to the bathroom at 1 am and have been up ever since.
When I log into the forum on the Iphone, or even if I don't log in and select Community, I see this:
On my computer, if I click on Recent discussions (which is right below the word FOURUMS) I see this:
John sees on his computer, what I see on my cell phone, except I saw it once on my laptop. I don't know how to get to that view
Mint tea in a Soggy & Southern mug, please.
Was in the hospital for nearly two weeks. After numerous tests, finally had a brain biopsy done. Still waiting on those results.
Been focused on trains and other projects to remain upbeat. Too much to still accomplish. Have a very supportive woman in my life which makes a big difference. Just need to get enough health back to be able to make everything happen.
That's it for now. Hope everyone is doing well.
Cheers!

Flo, give the gang and I a and Dirk Pip a half a dog treat.
Kevin I really like the Tank Car. I got the joke pretty quick with it being a Flammable Tank Car posted No Smoking! After a tad of work it will be roaming the rails!
Work Front I only had one customer all day, but they where there for 3.25 Hours! While I enjoyed talking with them after over 3 hours I was glad to see them go. They did buy and I made a extra $100.00 so it was worth it.
Train Front. I don't get it, the Mighty BLI PRR I1sa is still chuffing it's brains out? I just wish it makes up it mind. Either be broken or just stay working! OK, it just decided not to chuff again! I am starting to hate BLI steam engines again!

OK guys, now I see where you are getting the Recent Discussions thing. When I click on Community on the top bar, I get the Recent Discussions.
I always go the Forums, on the drop down list.
Yep, when I do it your way, I go right to the last post.
BigDaddyOn my Iphone when I click on Recent Discussions I will see a list of posts, eg, mbinsewi posted in Jeffreys Track Side Diner in the General forum. There is a user name, thread title, and the forum name. Maybe the forum name is before the thread title. I never saw a similar screen on my laptop until the other day and I don't know what I clicked on. I assumed the mobile view was just different from the standard webpage view.
I use a laptop, and I have my shortcut set to open the Recent Discussions page. When I click on a thread, it goes to the last comment on that thread.
I like the Recent Discussions page because it lists all activity in all the forums, not just the model railroad section. I like seeing, in one group, various discussions that include the garden railroads, the Trains group, etc.
I'm also not sure why some of you get the first post of the thread. I would not like that since I would have to click through twice to get to the last post.
BroadwayLion And since you are at the top of the page, I'll have a double beef wopper minus pickles, extra onions, large rings, fries, pie and coke. ROAR

OK, I found Recent Discussions, on the page that list the forums. When I click on the diner thread, I go to the first page, as stated before.
Never used an Iphone Henry, always a PC. Where do you see Recent Discussions ?
When go to General Discussion, I click on the diner, it takes me to page one, then I click on "Last". The page 5 mess can screw that up, and sometimes I get to the page before.

What do you guys see on a regular computer? The mobile recent posts is nice, because you go right to the post, rather than right to the 1st post in the Diner.
Uhm...excuse me Lion, but you actually have pay for yours, as you were on top the last time, and I didn't get so much as a glass of water, not even in a dirty glass!
Lion, I also used magnets on the bottom of my subway cars and reed switches. I built a totally underground station that could not be seen. It was really just a pair of storage tracks, but the station was finished scenery. What I needed was indicators that told me when a train cleared the turnout before the station but before it hits the wall at the end. This was a simple LED on the control panel. As I recall, I used two switches so I could tell if the train should go out in forward or reverse.
