Good afternoon —

Glad to see we are back in business Smile

I talked with Ken last night and he says HI to everyone. He is having computer/ISP problems and is trying to sort things out with his service provider.

Hope we get an update from him tonight?

I hope everyone is doing well. I've been harvesting and stacking my firewood. I have several "staging areas" around the yard and now I'm consolidating it all under the lean-to for ready access when the cold winds blow.

I'll say a quick hello and nothing else to report.  I was already locked out once after the forum came back today.

I don't have time to look for it but there was a photo shoot yesterday at Strasburg with the 611 hauling frieght and one of their passenger trains.  There are at least 2 youtube videos on it.

Yes... but we are back in buisness again. Happy times!

Not without a hitch in the gitalong, though! It took me over 30 minutes and several attempts to join in again!

Happy times!

I asked what he was going to do the piano. His response, "Blow it up." He is going to get a high speed camera to record the carnage and is going to send me a copy.

I'm not sure if he will allow the video to be shared -- it would be fun to watch.

Good Afternoon!

The forum was unavailable for quite a length of time - again. I wonder what is going on?

The plumber came this morning and finished the job within 15 minutes - good. Petra was off to see her dentist, as she had developed issues with the detal job she had done a few months earlier. It´s all fixed now - good!

Nothing else to report, other than we are having miserable, but typical weather. Just wet & windy. Not good!

Today´s New Zealand train video features "Steam Incorporated - Centennial South Island Rail Tour 2015"

Enjoy!

Happy times!

Since bad things happen in 3's, you are now done! You can relax since nothing more will go wrong.

I hope you are right, John. I pretty much had it for the day! And the plumber didn´t come...

York1
I have never been a fan of any BBQ sauce

You can count me in! I don´t mind plain old ketchup or a good (!) Dijon mustard/German Löwensenf, but leave out those sweet and smokey tasting BBQ sauces!

York1
homemade horseradish

That can be terribly hot! Although horseradish is not that high up on the Scoville count, its high content of rather volatile essential oils make it "bite" in the nose and throat, while peppers "burn" the tongue. Add a little cream to the horseradish and it becomes palatable. Horseradish goes well with cooked beef!

Happy times!

A couple of years ago I bought a piano off of Craigslist to practice tuning and repairs. It has been sitting in the garage, just taking up space when I got an email from a local piano guy asking if anyone had an old, free piano they wanted to get rid of. I was tired of it taking up space in the garage so I said come get it. Yesterday a guy with a flatbed trailer arrived to take the piano. I asked what he was going to do the piano. His response, "Blow it up." He is going to get a high speed camera to record the carnage and is going to send me a copy.

Good morning.  I will be on my way in a few minutes to visit granddaughters, so my days are scheduled.

Ulrich:  1. Washing machine, 2. Refrigerator light, 3. Plumbing leaks.  Since bad things happen in 3's, you are now done!  You can relax since nothing more will go wrong.

Ken and others, I know this is sacrilege to some of you, but I have never been a fan of any BBQ sauce.  Something about the combination of sweet, tangy, hot taste just didn't appeal to me.

One of my father's late-in-life projects was that he started making homemade horseradish.  He grew it and bottled it.  I could not eat even a small bit -- it was way too hot.  He was the only one who could stomach it.

Off to the gas station, then on to entertain family members.  It's a perfect day here -- temps in the 70s, sunny, and dry.  Wish I didn't have to spend it in a car.

Good Morning!

We are on page 5 - guess how I noticed that!

This is one of those days! This morning, the washing machine acted up a little, must be some hiccup in its program. I hope this will mend itself, after we pulled the plug. The bugger is not even 3 years old! Adding to that, the light bulb in the fridge went out, so I got a new one. When I came back, Petra told me that the plumbing under the sink in the bathroom had rotted away and needs mending. Under normal circumstances, I´d just get out my tools and do the job myself, but our landlord wants to have a word in that, so now we are waiting for the plumber to come and fix it!

I don´t like days like this!

Happy times!

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and Dirk Pip a dog treat.

Work Front Had a great Augast sales wise so I am backing it up with a rail sucking October.

Garry if you like reading try Clive Clussler. I would all most bet you seen some of Raise The Tittanic while channel suffering.

With us knowing where the HMS Tittaic is and the shape she is in, it does take some of the fun out of it now. But it was around 1980 when the movie was made. So what if? Book was way better but for a move knock off worth watching the whole movie.

Today's lunch special will be beef tenderloin sandwiches made from Dave's leftovers.

Okay Steven!!

Good idea!! DinnerBowYesYes We will have to get some buns tomorrow. We already have the cheese.

Thanks!

By the way, on the weekend we wanted to offer something a little better than your run-of-the-mill horseradish from the local grocery store, so Dianne searched far and wide and finally found some with the 'Keg' brand on it. I'm not sure if the Keg operates in the USA too, but up here it is considered to be one of the higher end chain restaurants, and both their food and service is really good. So, of course we were expecting the same from their "extra hot" horseradish. We were totally disappointed. 'Hot' it was not! More like bland, bland, bland! Our local No Frills grocery store's stuff is just as good (or as mediocre if you will) as the Keg stuff which was twice the price. I am so tired of being disappointed by products that claim to be good, and could be good if they wanted to, but just are not. Our only choice as consumers is to vote with our pocket books and not buy the stuff again.

My sister is officially married!

The wedding was LIT!!!

(Lit basically means awesome, fun, exciting)

I caught boogie fever! I had some of the best moves on the dance floor, I had like 6 people come to me at the end of the reception to tell me I was on fire out there!Laugh

I may be moving back to NY, its something I'm personally considering but also my parents have mentioned it on this trip so that may be happening, then again it might not.

Not on my screen, but not a big deal to me.

My Judy is really something with her pull tabs.

May I ask what she does with these?  Lady at our club also collects them, and says they're for a charity.  I looked on-line and so far as I can tell the charity collects them and takes them to a recycle center where they get the going per pound rate for aluminum.  Takes a lot of tabs to make a pound.

I must be a little bit hard on my equipment.

I was passing my phone over to Judy swatting a bee and it hit the concrete.

Shattered the screen againTongue Tied

Oh well what are you going to do.

It's pathetic I need a new phone againLaugh

I'll take you up on that offer Ulrich..... Thank you.

Judy always starts us off with a bloody on our Monday brunch to enhance our appetites.

The crazed yellow jackets on the patio leave a little something to be desired this time of year.

If you zoom in on the table below the Bloody Mary you will see they have learned,  don't mess with Track FiddlerLaugh Judy is allergic to bees, so she appreciates her watch dog.

I think I'll order one of those tenderloin sandwiches Steve-O.  I'll take it rare,  I feel a little brave today.

Thanks

It´s been quiet in here the last few hours. I did have some problems getting into this place later in the day yestaerday, but that seems to have been only a temporary issue.

Yeah I noticed to that forum traffic has been slower... no problems though!

I DO hope you mean SWEET Baby Ray's, Ken. That stuff is really TOO sweet for me. I usually like to make my own but in a pinch, my favorite bottled stuff is Stubbs Original or Hickory Burbon:

https://www.stubbsbbq.com/products

I agree with GMPullman on the BBQ sauce front! Stubbs is really good! Much better and Sweet Baby Ray’s (or Sweat Baby Ray’s if you like that version! Big Smile). Regratbly good BBQ sauce really doesn’t exist overseas...

I have that same Bowser car, as an incomplete kit, decorated for BN, and a similar GN that I think is a different company (it was a used hobby shop find out of original box). I really like those cars, though they are in HO and currently stored!

Happy hour in my neck of the woods. Please be invited to the poison of your choice!

I have not yet started to watch the colorized version of Buster Keaton´s "The General". Instead I did a little daydreaming of running my trusted WMC HOn3 D&RGW T-12 over a little layout, which I, should I ever get some HOn3 track, may even build one day. It´ll be something rather simple, though, just a type of oval with a stub-end siding, a flagstop, a water tank and a hotel - similar to the Shady Rest Hotel and the Hooterville Cannonball!

I have not yet posted another NZR steam train video, so here it is "At Speed To National Park"!

Enjoy!

Happy times!

Good morning.  Coffee, eggs, coffee, bacon, coffee, hashbrowns, coffee, please.

Another beautiful fall morning.  It was cool enough this morning that I had a hooded jacket on for my walk.

My wife told me her wishlist for some new lighting in the house.  I had been putting her off by claiming the attic was too hot to run the wires.  She remembered and now the weather is cool, so I need a new excuse.  Maybe that it's now too cold in the attic.

Went to the NMRA Berea train show yesterday. Really sparse crowd, well, not even a crowd. By 1 PM I doubt there were even a hundred people left. I heard some grumbling from vendors. Maybe a temporary thing, maybe a trend?

I've wondered how some shows seem to draw huge crowds while others don't.  I have to believe that the marketing makes a difference.  I went to a show a while back that was crowded with kids.  They must have really marketed it to school kids who got in if they brought canned goods for the food bank.  The kids brought their paying parents.  For many of the kids, I'll bet they had never seen a model railroad before.

Have a great day, everyone.

Alas, we can only hope for a better back in my case, and for you to find a much better place to live.

Good Morning!

We had the first frost of the season this morning! Quite early!

It´s nearing lunchtime in this neck of the woods and, Dave, the description of your beef tenderloin roast made my mouth water like the Niagara Falls! Save some for me, please!

Modern computer graphics can do miracles! I just found a colored edition of the classic Buster Keaton movie "The General" in the web!

While not true-to-life colors, the coloring does add a new dimension to the movie. I will watch it maybe later in the day!

Have a great day!

Happy times!

We had a great weekend! A group of long time friends got together to celebrate our collective 500th birthday. Most of the group have known each other for 46 years when they met in highschool (I'm a late comer - only 43 years with the group).

Warning: I'm going to go on a bit about the main meal!!!

We are all foodies so as usual we indulged extravigantly. Dianne and I bought a beef tenderloin roast from Costco that was into three figures. Initially we weren't really happy with what we spent, that is until we got to taste it! It was so tender it was like butter! I wrapped it in bacon and smoked it for a little less than an hour just to add a hint of smokey flavour. Then I put it on the BBQ in a baking pan and cooked it very slowly for about 90 minutes. The roast and bacon were cooked perfectly!YesDinner

For several weeks we had been saving our beef drippings and meat scraps from several meals so we had a nice rich dark base to work with. When we were finishing the gravy we added a little Port and a bit of butter. The gang raved over the gravy!

We were treated to Yorkshire puddings which I love! We also had excellent roasted veggies and a nice, slightly acidic beet salad, both of which added enormously to the experience! For dessert we had butter tarts and apple pie with ice cream. The pasteries melted in your mouth!

I apologise for going on so long but this was one of the best meals that I have ever had!!! It was better than any restaurant meal I have experienced! Bonus - we have leftovers!!!

You are all invited next time!!Smile, Wink & Grin

Cheers!!

Dave

Erv likes the idea of a switching layout in his garage.  It will have to be N scale so it doesn't take up a lot of space.   The go-ahead has been approved   Sweet...... More Fun.

Went out to my buddy Erv's today and watched the Vikings Kick Butt.  Had my new bass out there and we played guitars after the game.

It is like riding a bike.  All my old songs started coming back to me and I started hammering them them out.  Ozzy,  Pink Floyd,  Zepplin,  Nazareth,  AC/DC,  they all started coming back, it was fun.

Hard to believe but this is my first BBQ of the year? When we first moved here I BBQ 4 times a week. Finally got burnt out BBQing I guess. Plus the Sweat Baby Ray BBQ sause plays heck with my GL.

I bought one Bowser freight car and a box containing a big, "vintage" Heljan brewery complex. Guess I did OK since I got it for $10 and when I got home I checked Walthers and Ebay and their price was much higher. I may use it for a background building.

UCOX_205-Covered Hopper by Edmund, on Flickr

Mrs. Pullman slipped on some muddy ground while tending the chickens. Her knee is slowly healing but I'm (gladly) doing all the chores around the house and farm. I blame the funky foam rubber "flip-flops" she had on*. It takes a moment more time to put proper chore boots on but... well, you know the outcome.

* Crocs, that's what they're called I believe.

Hope everyone is doing well and had an enjoyable weekend.
