Ray I saw Winton Marsalis in the late 70's in Chapel Hill, with Dizzie Gillespie and his balloon cheeks. Winton was the kid, and he could only have been 18 or 19, but he held his own.
I loved Halloween as a kid, got way too much candy, but it has since struck me as odd that it is kids begging for food. A front rolling in ended things early and we did not have the older teenagers in their hoodies costumes.
My SIL left Baltimore on a cruise ship headed for the Bahamas at 6 pm. She is going to meet the front in an hour or two. Her last cruise was in a hurricane. She was so sick, they thought she might had norvovirus and confined her to the cabin.
I've been to the Bahamas, scuba diving. Locals living in tin shacks with goats and chickens roaming the streets while the tourists are in posh hotels. I doubt I will go back in this lifetime.

Good Evening All,
Both CFO and I got home late so we didn't see much for trick or treaters. Fewer every year anyway and I'll be fine when the tradition finally ends. Left over treats to the shop tomorrow for the Smedleys to finish off or I'll be back up to 200 by weeks end.

Been lurking but not posting lately. Hit a rut with the layout, mostly motivation. I need to finish some of the structures I started and didn't close out. Large bridge will be first so it looks complete. Need to clean a decades dirt (the track is at least clean) and redrill all the railing holes as half of them are painted shut. The other major thing will be getting the Walthers 90' turntable to power the rails which still don't work after checking and rechecking off the layout.
Ken - I only worry about a couple of things with the 'puter. Will it get me into the diner and will it do E-mail without which I won't have a business for long. I remain functionally illiterate with the rest.

Halloween is not what it use to be for the rather it's better or worse. My wife does not want the kids coming by so we stopped handing out treats 23 years ago. I think next year I may change that. I love Halloween when I was a kid.
Looks like one of my purchases last night went through. So in a few days I will be out of the stone age into 2000's. I will be a hopefully happy owner of a Dell Opitplex 710 DT i5 3470 3.20 Ghz 8 GB of Ram and 250 GB hard drive with Windows 10 with a 1 year warranty. Now if I can remember how to down load programs and reinstall Decoder Pro. Finding the correct USB port stumped me last time.
Best Part of Halloween for me this year? We closed at 5:00 PM today. Nices to get home and beable to see the house!

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestera with Wynton Marcalis was fantantic! My lady friend seemed to enjoy it very much too. We had a wonderful soup and salad supper before we left for Eastman Theater and I had a chance to have a nice conversation with her when we got back to her home. So far, we appear to like each other and get along very well.... I have some good hopes for us. Time will tell.
Only "Trick or Treaters" here tonight were my Granddaughters who were actually on their way to a community halloween thingie over where they live. Nobody in my immediate neighborhood had porch lights on even. Here the city says that only houses with porch lights on should be visited. I stopped buying candy a few years ago when it got so there was only 3 or 4 families that rang my doorbell. A bit different from the couple hundred I used to get back when I was teaching.... The Middle Schoolers knew where I lived! LOL I didn't mind and for a couple years put together some sound clips (I pulled off the net recordings of what scientists believe dinasaurs like T-Rex actually sounded like) that scared the living crap out of them.... (grin) The city council was going to issue me a special permit to house a T-rex in my back shed....

I grew up in Texas and the Astros were my team, They did not win but I like when the series goes 7 games. It was a good series what i caught of it. it is hard to watch when on call. We had a change in temps today down into the 30's for most of the day. A few flakes of snow. Tonight I will be brodcasting the War of the Worlds from 1938 to my old radios and the neigborhood.( halloween tradition) I have an AM transmitter that can reach a few blocks. Right now we have swing music going for another 20 mins until the start of the program.

BATMANI agree with Ulrich, why is it called the world series when no one else is invited?
The first series was played in 1903 when baseball was played basically only in the U.S. (Although some other countries had games and leagues, but not on the same scale.)
The owner of the Pittsburgh Pirates wrote to the owner of the Boston Americans, challenging them to a championship set of games that was called the World Championship Series, and eventually the name became the World Series.
There is actually a world championship played every three or four years, with mostly Major League players playing for their home countries. There have been four series played and their winners: 2006 - Japan, 2009 - Japan, 2013 - Dominican Republic, 2017 - United States.
I love baseball, and watched games nearly every night through the season. I wanted the Astros to win.
Games are normally played even in the rain, but if there is lightning visible, or the possibility lightning will occur, they will stop the game.

How can one screw up a hard boiled egg? I dunno, but I managed to cook eggs that delaminated. It came out of the shell like an onion with a layer of white stuck to the shell.
Awful tragedy on a Pakistan train. It's against the rules, but people can bring their own stove, one caught fire and the train didn't stop for 20 minutes.

Well, we watched it, the only complete game we've seen this year. We aren't baseball fans, but the Nationals are a local team, so we stayed up late to watch. We liked the way it turned out.
Remember the old days, when baseball was played in the daytime in the middle of the week, out in the sunshine?

For the first time in 10 years, we had a little boy calling on us for treats. Must be new in the neighborhood.
I use a bank debit card sometimes, and the only restriction is if I'm going to spend more than $500., I have to call the bank first so it goes through.
There isn't any type of restriction on the 1 credit card we use.
4" of wet heavy snow, and counting this morning in SE. WI. What a strange weather year it has been! Suppose to have 5" to 6" when it's done late pm.
Trick or Treat hasn't been cancelled yet, still on for tonight.

I pay cash. Should I order something online, I pay via bank transfer. I don´t have a debit card, nor a credit card. Without those cards, you spend a lot less and save a lot of money! We have benn running a tight ship on spendings the last couple of years and were thus able to save a pretty penny - not a fortune, though.
Good morning. Cold, but sunny. We will warm up above freezing for the first time in a while, so some of the snow should melt.
Our church puts on a "Trunk or Treat" with lots of people in costumes, lots of cars or SUVs with their trunks full of candy, and lots of kids. The church also has hot dogs and other foods, game booths, etc. In our small town, it's almost a fall celebration and we will have a large crowd of people attend. It makes for a great evening. The added attraction is that if it's bad weather, we can move it indoors to the gym and hallways.
I have one credit card, which I got when I was ready to leave for college in the 1960s. Back then it was called BankAmericard. My parents made it clear it was only for emergencies, and emergencies meant life or death, not beer or a movie.
Today, I very seldom use it. I do use a debit card a lot, but never for anything I would not normally buy with cash. I know there are studies that show people spend more money with a debit card than if they pay with cash. That's not me, however.
