I hope Snowflake fits in for you MisterB.  Pets can be interesting sometimes, they all have a mind of their own.

I like Bridges

Anyone else have a good bridge to share?

Well, I'm back.  The GF and I look a weekend in Northern Virginia to go to an engagement party for the daughter of her friends.  Really?  A 50 guest engagement party, with a rented venue, catered food and wine?  Times have changed, I guess.

We came home with a kitten.  She's a Siamese from rescue, about 3 months old.  She seems very calm for a rescue animal, and adapting well.  The dog is ho-hum about the new cat, but the older cat is going to take a while to get used to this.  We named the new cat, who is mostly white, Snowflake.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

I'll take a 1/2 head of cabbage a stalk of celery and four cucumbers put through a juicer Ulrich.  I heard those three things are really good for your joints

Thanks for the drink.   TF

Good Evening!

I am in a somewhat blue mood today, so nothing really important to tell. Modern cars are really built to save lives and without seat belts, airbags and those crumple zones I´d guess I wouldn´t be around. I had a couple of quite nasty accidents, the worst one being an offset crash on the motorway while I was doing 125mph. Those days are long past me. I don´t drive faster than 75mph these days.

Edit: Looks as if I am on the top of the new page, so your drinks are on me, whatever poison you like!

Happy times!

Good afternoon.

Thanks for all of the comments regarding the car accident I mentioned yesterday. Both SIL and BIL are out of the hospital already. They have aches and pains, but they will be okay. The accident occurred when another vehicle ran a stop sign and hit them broadside. Their car rolled over three times. Again, seat belts and air bags saved them from worse injueries.

Good afternoon all.

Glad the in-laws were'nt to seriously injured Garry, I'm still hoping the best for them.

Unfortunately none of us know where and when things like this are going to happen, especially with so many people playing with their darn phones on the road.

The highways are a new can of worms today.  Judy and I can vouch for that from the time we got rear-ended at 60 miles an hour by a texter when we were stoped at a dead standstill in a traffic jamb.  Neither one of us has been quite the same since.

Well I came home from work early today.  My knee's all jacked again.  I'm wondering if another storm is coming through soon.  This is happening a little more to frequent lately and I'm starting to get a little worried about it.

My surgeon said next time I come in I'm going to need a new artificial knee and I do not want to go there.

Modern technology is amazing. When I see the drivers walk away from NASCAR, Indy, and Grand Prix accidents that completely destroy their cars, I am in awe.

I agree.  Garry, I'm glad they weren't seriously injured.

Most of us here grew up when car safety meant your mother or father put their arm in front of you when the car stopped so that you didn't hit your head on the steel dashboard.

It was a big scare ealier today when we learned Sister In Law and Borther In Law were in hospital because of a car accident. Their vehicle rolled over several times. Thankfully, injuries were not too bad, and SIL has been discharged. BIL already has heart problems, and he is still in hospital for tests. I think seat belts and air bags saved them. . .

Good morning.  Not hungry today so just coffee.

It's cool, 66°, and cloudy.  It was a nice morning to walk the trail along the creek.  You can tell the seasons are changing.

The ash trees are always the first to go, and their leaves are already brown.  In a few years, all the ash trees will be dead due to the emerald ash borer.  They are about 50 miles east of here, and quickly moving this way.  It's too bad, because ash trees did so well in the Great Plains climate.

I have a lot of stuff to do today that I don't want to do.  I decided to put everything unpleasant into one day, and hopefully I can get all the chores done so I don't have to dread doing some tomorrow.

That's one small step for man, one giant step into four states at once.  Neat place where Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado meet.  One more thing checked off my bucket list.

Hi Brent,

Neat experiences.

The orca theft video is really interesting. They certainly aren't dumb animals. Why expend all that energy hunting salmon when the humans will bring them right to you?!?

For us, seeing the orcas up that close is likely a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If we win the lottery I think we might just move to the west coast.

Dave those encounters are the best. That is a great video.

My buddy and I use to fish a lot before we both got married and had kids. We would go out and mooch for salmon, that's where you turn off the boat engine and just drift with the tide with your line over the side. The orca would come right up to the boat and say hi and just kind of hang out.

A couple of times we had this happen to us, but they took the whole fish not just half. We figured they were only 20 to 30 pounders they got, nothing like this monster.

Dianne and I had a similar experience with Orcas a couple of years ago when we were staying at the Grizzly Bear Lodge on Minstrel Island just east of the northern tip of Vancouver Island. We were in a small (20') boat. We saw a pod of Orcas several hundred metres away so our guide George shut off the motor so we could sit and watch.

Here is the video:

Post hog, post hog Track Fiddler's on top.

I need to talk about another Gary I know before it gets too late.  Gary is of the best people I know right next to our good friend Ron we all recently said goodbye to.

I haven't been to my Railroad Club since our good friend Ron died and it was hard to go there without seeing him.  I will always miss Ron.  I love that man.

Gary called me and told me of a train that was coming through his hometown of St. Louis Park.

Because of all of the Light Rail work that has been going on this Deluxe passenger train was re-roughted to load passengers in Gary's hometown.

I was with my daughters that were visiting for the weekend that I had'nt seen since July.

I hadn't seen Gary for so long, I needed to stop by with my daughter's for a visit.

The orange Milwaukee Hiawatha passenger cars coupled together with the silver California Zephyr passenger car pulled by a Steam Locamotive and pushed by an E-9 I think.

I got there to the club with my daughters and all the guys came out in front of the house waiting for me.  It was good to see them all.  Gary, Paul, Terry, Bruce, Dave and you cannot forget a big part of the family (the dogs) my favorite, Oscar and Axle.  Oscar had to be told to stay out of the street.

My original favorite person that originally invited me to this club....... Paul.

Paul is an engineer that worked for both Burlington Northern and Canadian Pacific.  Retired from both.

Paul gets to play with this toys now and has a lot of fun traveling. He is one of the coolest guys I know.

My daughter's told me later they were so pleased and had fun riding in his beautiful Porsche as he was so kind to take us down to where we'd have the best view of the Steam locamotive coming through St. Louis Park. Formerly pointed out by Gary.

I want to thank my Daughters, Gary, Paul and my Railroad Club for such a wonderful weekend.

Thanks Ed,

I have figured it out but I won't post the video for now. I shortened it considerably so I will wait until YouTube processes the edit.

That's really cool you got to meet with Garry and see his layout Kevin.  I have to envy you.  I have an open invitation to go see it myself some day if I'm ever out that way again.

As he stated, he was leaving town when I was in his neck of the woods last year.

I hope to pass through that way again someday as I would love to see Garry's beautiful work as I have seen on the Forum here.

I'm looking forward to that day Garry.

Good Evening All,

Back from VIR and getting ready for COTA next week. Trucks load Friday and leave Saturday morning. Also have a truck leaving for Road Atlanta tomorrow morning for another customer and a fourth for a test at Daytona with the newly arrived Pugeot 908(sp?). Busy time.

Garry, glad you are feeling better. It's great when diner regulars can meet.

I should drop in tomorrow for brekkies and coffee. It's been a long day.

              Cheers, J.R.

Now that I have seen Garry's incredible layout, I know exactly the spot where his picture of the STRATTON AND GILLETTE boxcar was taken. That makes it seem more personal. I am surprised I was able to sneak it in without getting caught!

.

On the way to Nashville on Saturday, I got off the Interstate in Manchester and headed South until I found a place to eat. We found a Mexican restaurant that was quite tasty. On the way back today we drove the Franklin, Tennessee and had some local barbecue.

.

So... On this trip to Nashville I ate meals in FRANKLIN AND SOUTH MANCHESTER! How cool is that?

.

I saw this yellow boxcar behind a gift shop in Chattanooga today. I an sure there must be some kind of a story here.

LION took NJT to Trenton, and the the River Line to Camden.

Went aboard the USS New Jersey. Nice boat.

My airceaft carrier was bigger, but the battleship had a bigger mess deck.

Maybe theire dining hours were shorter.

On Coral See our galleys were open 28 hours a day.

My ex delivered my autograph book, my father's old WW2 pics, some other family pics and a bottle of my favorite steak sauce, made by Nabisco, called Escofier Robert. No photo description available. It is no longer made.  Best guess from the markings on the bottle, it was made in April 1996.

Kevin certainly has outstanding talent for painting and lettering frieght cars based on how this 40' boxcar looks !

I'll say!  That picture is HO.

Every bit as talented detailing in N.  It's no surprise looking at this boxcar that's what he modeled in the pastYes

I'm just sad I don't have enough done on my layout yet to display it more properly.

Definitely deserves more than just a picture in a jewel case I thinkYes

Br Lion is he in NYC.  Years ago you could redeem a silver certificate (that's what dollar bills were before they were notes) for real silver at the Assay Office. It was maybe 1/2 a tablespoon back then. There was an adjoining jail cell with a 4' pile of gold bars.  Now they are at the Federal Reserve Bank but you need to make reservations.

Prayers for a full and speedy recovery of your SIL and her husband, Garry!

Gee, I wish I had a chance of meeting you guys! I guess this will only happen in our next life.

It´s back to square 1 concerning the house hunting in Denmark. Both of the places suitable for what we need have been sold in the meantime and there is currently no alternative available. That sucks!

Happy times!

Good morning, everyone.  It's good to be back on home schedule, although I had a great time being gone.

This trip was the first time in over 40 years that I took a trip without my wife.  She is not a hiker - camper - rugged life.  Her idea of a vacation is a bed at Hampton Inn.

BATMAN
John glad you enjoyed the hiking trip, did you do overnight backpacking or just day trips.

When I was younger, I hiked the Grand Canyon to spend the night at Phantom Ranch.  Lots of other trips like that.  Also, each year, I would take our graduating students on a three-day canoeing, camping trip.  I loved that, and so did the students.  I never got much sleep on those trips -- had to keep the girls out of the boys' tents.

Unfortunately, I think I'm too old to do that kind of trip anymore.  While I did hiking on this trip, the elevations bothered me enough that I did not complete some trails.

Garry, I'm glad to hear you are feeling better!

At the moment the Lion is in Newark New Jersey, stayng at Newark Abbey.   I'll be backhome Oct 2nd, ROAR

Lion, you can go to Wall Street in NYC.  I could see Wall Street on the Navajo Loop at Bryce Canyon.  I wish there was a subway to get there;  I couldn't quite make the hike to it with my old lungs.

Autumn says hello with the same nice weather last ummer sais goodbye with. We will be enjoying a pleasant day. The leaves start to change their color and the sky is filled with the calls of geese and herons heading south. Mother Nature at her best!

It's the same for us here on the North American plains.  Harvest is beginning, leaves are changing, the morning walks are in cool air -- it's a great time of year.

After time away, I'm back to normal chores.  I'd prefer to be away.
