Good afternoon, everyone.  It's 3:00 p.m., hot, and time for a cold beer.

The discussion about car factories reminded me of a tour I took several years ago.

Corvettes are made in Bowling Green, Kentucky.  It was an amazing tour of the factory.

You start the tour at the start of the line.  There are big bins full of parts, and they start putting it together.

You walk following the line, and finally, at the end of the line, they put gas in the Corvette, start it, and drive it off the line.

Amazing to see a car built from scratch!

If you go, be sure to see the Corvette museum across the street from the factory.  If I remember right, they have one of every model of Corvette made.  They also have a nice big hole in the floor!

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please.

Well Work Sucked Rail Spikes this week. In 3 days I had a whole 5 customers! Wht really stunk was Wednesday and Thursday I had 2 custmers come in 15 minutes before closing.

ROR Good for you and bad on me. I remember when I could do 100 sits as a warm up before I started lifiting. When I got in Management I just did not have time to work out like I use to. Plus getting married did not help either.

Good News? Credit score is back up to Good with a 700. In 2017 I was at 740 but stuff happens.

Ed Watched the video and thanks for posting it.

Hello, folks—

Glad you liked the film, Ken. Neat stuff back in the day.

Here's a few other photos showing various loading of autos and a few American LaFrance apparatus into box cars. I'd say they needed a longer ramp in Elmira!

Mornin' Folks!

Janie, I could use a refill for my Dark Roast, Organic, Fair Traded Coffee this morning...

BATMAN
Ray, glad to hear you're still walking. If you are flatlining on the weight loss you need to shock your body out of its memory pattern. Either try to change your diet just for a few days or look into "HIT" training or do both. The "HIT" training can be done with your walk/run routine. It wakes your body up from stagnation. There are lots of good You-Tube videos on HIT training (watch more than one). I have my own routine that has me changing what I do every time I exercise. My body doesn't ever know what's coming and prepares for the worst, makes me feel great.

I looked it up, Brent,  Sounds like what we were doing a couple days a week back when I was a sophmore at Eastman School of Music in 1970...  During the swimming units in PE, some of us opted to work out in the weight room after passing the swim test.  I got into that to the point where I could do 6 reps lifting 550lbs. on the power rack with my legs!  I forget what I was lifting on the rack with my arms back then (wasn't that impressive).  I was working out every other day in my dorm room and was lifting 115 lbs. for presses, curls, and backhanded curls.  I did 120 presses, 100 curls, and 80 backhanded curls back then without stopping.  Today, I wouldn't do anything like that without having someone right there to call 911 for me!  LOL

I did add some more calories to my diet for a few days and am once again losing a bit more weight.  I am nearing my ultimate goal so weight loss is now slow.  I love the reaction from people who haven't seen me in a few years!  Was out at Boy Scout Camp yesterday and the "temporary" Ranger who is an old Scouting friend had no Idea who I was until I said hello and shook his hand.  The reaction was great and made me feel very good.  You should have seen the look on his face....

Have been spending some time building some "modified" kits for the layout.  Have a massive amount of stuff I want to get done before Fall when my layout will be open for the NER NMRA Convention.

Have to leave in a couple minutes to take my Granddaughter to her Basketball camp in Waterloo.  Catch you all later or at least will be sitting in the back listening.

I'm a little late for breakfast today.

This morning I drove up to the UP mainline to see Big Boy come through on the way to Railroad Days in Omaha.

After seeing the train come by, I drove to the next small town where the locomotive stopped for about 15 minutes.  I believe the entire town's 3,000 people were out to see the locomotive.  Hundreds of kids there, and they really loved it.

Very good day!

Hey, you caught my red & white GMC in that second photo (well, GMC not a Bow Tie)

 GMC_1984 by Edmund, on Flickr

Anybody remember when trucks and automobiles came in a variety of colors? I just bought a new Chevy pickup. Here's the interior color choices:

[ ]  Charcoal

Please choose one.

Exterior choices aren't much better, Ten shades of silver, white or black, plus red or blue. I remember the dealer having a book bigger than the Manhattan phone directory with all the color choices, plus you could choose vinyl, cloth or other combinations of fabrics, too. Then the vinyl roof was another option offering several styles, textures and colors.

OK, I'll stop being a grumpy old man now.

Enjoy the weekend folks!

Cheers, Ed

Train Front Called BLI today and there is a away to defeat the defective reed switch! At first they would not honor my warranty because they did not see where I bought from there Refurbish Store!

Then I did some name dropping! When I mention Ed it was yes sir we will get to it right a way! Big Smile There idea of right away is 14 weeks, so just about time for Thanks Giving.

I did get a return number just to be safe if changing the CV's  does not fix the lack of chuffing.

Evening Diners.

I don't know why I have not dropped by the diner lately.  For some reason I just haven't.

Congratulations on your not smoking anymore CudaKen.  Quite an achievement.  I made it for many months but somehow somewhere along the way, I started smoking againSad  Trying to look out for you Ken.  Be very aware,  one slip and down the hall you fallTongue Tied

Well I dropped in just because I had such a funny a few minutes ago.  Judy and I are getting ready to go back to Laughlin on the 14th for our second free trip and doing a little Chit Chatting planning our last day or so.

I was leaving the walk out but I just had a little bit more to say to Judy.  What I had to say took about 15 seconds.  She cut me off and said. "shut the door, shut the door, you're letting all the air out" ....... Are you kidding me!

I don't know what kind of air she's breathing out there but I think it was the same air I was breathing in here...... I don't know, ...maybe I was supposed to be holding my breath while I was in thereLaugh

I never understood this sort of thing.

It's kind of like when you were a kid and your Mom or Dad told you  "shut the refrigerator door, you're wasting electricity".

I always stood there with a puzzled look on my face after I shut the door and said......... well how am I going to find what I'm going to eat then.

I never got an answer...... I just opened up the fridge again after they left the roomLaughLaugh

Good afternoon from the Sunny West Coast.

Had a good day getting lots done. My old John Deere tractor that I use to haul a little trailer around for yard work crapped out and I had to push it about 300' uphill to the garage for repairs. It was starved for fuel and a good wack with a screwdriver on the fuel pump fixed that problem. I won't spend a dime on it, but it is really handy to have around. I phone the scrap metal dealer and he said he would give me $15.00 for it. It would cost me that much to drive there and back. When it does die I will put an add in the FB community adds and some treasure hunter will come get it.

I did add some more calories to my diet for a few days and am once again losing a bit more weight.

That's the right thing to do, hard to make people understand that principle though. You fool your body into thinking nutrition will be plentiful by eating a little more for a few days and it won't hoard the energy. Then WHAMO you cut back again and the pounds drop off. It works. But it doesn't work if you are eating too much to begin with.

Richard good on you for the sit-ups and weight training. I do both when the Arthritis lets me, it can be hit and miss. I do look fit in a crowd though, no big muscles but good muscle tone.

My kid lifted his shirt this morning and he has the eight pack going again on his gut. He came home at the end of April with most of all his muscle tone gone as he was just too busy at school to keep in good shape. Didn't take him long to get it back. Being retired I have all the time in the world to stay fit.

The Girls are at the barn riding their assigned plugs. Actually the horse my Daughter rides just sold for $65,000.00 yesterday and will be gone in two weeks. She is sad but it is not the first time she has had to say goodbye to a horse she has ridden for quite a while. Riding is a tremendous workout for both my Wife and my Daughter. The Daughter rides a lot more than the Wife and has incredible muscle tone.

I am on dinner and that requires opening a bottle of red wine while I slave over the stove cooking either gourmet weiners and beans or hamburgers and salad.Hmm Hamburgers it is.

All the best to all for a good weekend.

Yep!  I have had 3 different people in the know suggest that to me.  One is a pediatric nurse who is also a dietician (She volunteers at the museum), another is a personal trainer (retired) who has taken me under his wing over at the fieldhouse, and the third is one of my doctors who verified the thoughts of the other two.  As I said, I am nearing the weight I want to acheive so the lose is going to be a bit slower anyway.  According to Fitbit, I have walked 2090 miles in the last 14 months since I got the Fitbit.  I almost always put in a minimum of 5 miles and ususlly adding 10 or more miles every day.

Also got some time today to get some stuff done on the layout.  Way behind where I need to be to be ready to open up the house for the 2019 NER NMRA Convention this September.  Got to get my butt in gear!!!

Have a great night!

Mornin' folks!

Chloe, I could use a bowl of organic granola cereal, skim milk, and a handful of fresh organic blueberries to top it off.  Oh, don't forget my usual dark roast coffe too!  Thank you ma"am!

Joke for the day.  Sometimes it's hard to figure out who is crazy and who is sane.....

A woman goes to a psychiatrist and says, "Doctor, you've got to do something about my husband. He thinks he's a refrigerator!"

"I wouldn't worry too much about it," the doctor replies. "Lots of people have harmless delusions. It will pass."

"But you don't understand," the woman insists.

"He sleeps with his mouth open, and the little light keeps me awake."

Tomorrow is the NMRA Division's Summer Picnic.  Being held at the Suoerintendent's home.  He lives about a mile away from where the lady I have been seeing lives, so last night when I talked with her on the phone she asked me to stop over for a while after the picnic to chat.  (At this point that is the extent of things... Whistling)  We do seem to enjoy each others company, so that is a good start.

Have to make one of my famous potato salads today to take as a dish to pass for the picnic and several other items needing to get done as well.  Best get at it!

Good morning.  Eggs, sausage, and coffee.  I never get tired of it.

TrackFiddler, I sometimes hear things like that from my wife.  One of her favorites is that if the house is warm, she tells me to lower the thermostat to 64° so the house will cool off faster than if I turn it to 70°.  I gave up trying to explain things 35 years ago.

Gary, your pictures of loading cars onto trains reminded me:

Some insurance companies are out a lot of money.  In Nevada earlier this week:

Kevin, I've never seen the movie but the diner looks neat.  I have often wanted to take a trip to some places that I have seen in movies.  I know there is San Francisco tour to places seen in the movie Vertigo.  Here's an interesting site that shows houses and places from movies.  https://hookedonhouses.net/category/houses-onscreen/

It is warm here with high humidity.  Good corn growing weather, but miserable otherwise.

Have to go cut the grass.  Every so often I still threaten to pave the yard and paint it green.  I hate yard work.

Hope everyone has a good day

The waitress is cute, but it's hard to see the building with a big "mug" in front it.

.

She was perfectly cast for the role. That is English Actress Lily James. She learned a sweet sublte Georgia accent for the role of a waitress in an Atlanta Diner.

.

At CosPlay Conventions last year, quite a few girls were dressing as "Jonathan the Bo's Diner Waitress" from Baby Driver... very cute. The costume designers for the movie did an A+ job on the waitress outfit.

.

Baby Driver is one of my favorite movies. It was made only a couple of years ago, but it was shot with real cameras in moving cars on 35mm film, not digital. There are no ridiculous CGI special effect, crazy explosions, or impossible car stunts. Every car stunt in the film was a professional driver in a real car. Also no souped up hot rods, just real cars.

.

The movie has well written moments of tension and drama. It was poorly promoted as a Fast & Furious clone, which it absolutely is not.

.

The movie won many awards for sound editing, and the soundtrack is one of the best ever assembled for a film, almost as good as the original Guardians Of The Galaxy soundtrack songs.

.

Taking a trip to the Bo's Diner set was easy, it is right across the street from my office in Atlanta!

 Afternoon Diners

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please.

Felt like ash pitt for most of the day. Had a Low Blood Surgar Attack around 1:30 AM. Eat and felt better. Then around 3:30 I started having bad leg cramps. Rest of the night sleep was bad, cramp, sleep, cramp and sleep.

Felt tired most of the day but could not take a nap. Yes I laied down but no ZZZZZZ's for me. Sigh

Felt hungery and ate a couple of pices of Air Fried Chicken. After that I felt some what better!

How do you eat a Elephant? One pice at a time. Rear patio looked like a disaster area this summer. It had been so bad I did not want to mess with it! Well today I made my self work on it some. Now it has been down graded to a mess, not a disaster area. One bite at a time!

Good afternoon from the Sunny West Coast, it is 26c.

There are no ridiculous CGI special effect, crazy explosions, or impossible car stunts. Every car stunt in the film was a professional driver in a real car. Also no souped up hot rods, just real cars.

I am with you on everything being over the top or poorly done in so many movies these days, I will give Baby Driver a look.

I tend to get well immersed in the music of whatever I am watching on the screen at the time if it is good or unique, and have found myself completely tuning out the dialog of whatever I am watching only to have to watch the thing again.

While I was watching Game Of Thrones the score did nothing for me and then part way through season four there was a dramatic improvement and I found an interesting video on the composer and how he indeed ramped it up in season four and had an increased budget.

My daughter and I enjoy watching the videos of the orchestra(s) on the scoring stage putting the music to film, an incredible amount of work to be sure.

She has been playing some pieces from GOT and I came across this and showed it to her and so she printed off the music and is well on her way to learning it. I could listen to her play all day. My Daughter loves the fact that Grandmas (now hers) grand piano is also a Yamaha.

Kevin when the kid did Deadpool 2, the explosions in "the icebox"  were real enough that he got a couple of little burns. They wore special goggles that fit right on the eyelid and were undetectable on screen. The stunt crew really looked after him well and he was the only extra on set that day. I think he was on set 19 hours that day.

When he did an episode of Legends Of Tomorrow he played two characters in the same episode and one of his costumes was over $5000.00. He was still in High School so I picked him up and took him to his costume fitting for Legion and he had about seven people working on just him for about three hours and then he did a screen test to make sure everything looked good. Big bucks spent on costumes for sure.

Had a mega workout today and feel like a million, we are waiting for a load of puppies to arrive and the Mom is getting restless so it won't be long now.

I think that is an affirmative! Whistling  Last night she didn't answer the phone until it almost went to message..  She was out of breath.  Said she was hoping it was me and was outside and had to run around the house and get in to the phone.....  I will be stoping over to see her tomorrow night after the NMRA picnic.  I would have invited her to the picnic but I don't want to bore her being around a bunch of train nuts.... LOL

I have the potato salad made and am making extra ice to put in the cooler to take with me tomorrow.  Contractor will be back on Monday to cut paint and install the trim in the room.  Says he should be done by the end of the week which is good as the new carpet will be installed on the 23rd.  Then I can start getting everything moved and put back into the room.  Will be nice.

Actually spent about 15 minutes working on a building for the layout.  Funny story...  Last night I mentioned to the ladyfriend that I had spent some time working on the "layout" and saying I had a lot to get done before the layout will be on the tour for the NER Convention.  She finally said, "Ah, Ray?  What are you talking about???"  I filled her in that the "Toy train" down cellar is a scale model railroad and the place where the trains run is called a Layout!"

Have a great one!  And...  Ken, Proud of you staying smoke free (except for the trains) for this long.  May it continue for many years!

BATMAN
I am with you on everything being over the top or poorly done in so many movies these days, I will give Baby Driver a look.

.

I don't think it is the kind of movie you would enjoy.

Good Evening,

A nice, warm, as in 85F day here but fairly humid. I got a fence repaired so accomplished something.

Brent, that photo isn't a Victoria Beach train. That is a CP loco and only CN ran to Victoria Beach. My parents rented a cottage there in '56,57 and '58. There was a daily train that arrived at noon pulled by a Pacific. It most definitely was CN. I rode on it a few times. CP ran to Winnipeg Beach on the other side of the lake.

I actually ran a train the other day for at least an hour. Most RR I have done in a long time.

Well we finally got the fireplace repaired. I had to order the parts myself but it got done and is working great. Next on the major repair list is the car. There is a vacuum pump that needs attention and it will cost around $500 to do. First repair in 9 years, so I can't complain.

Well tea and tellie time,

CN Charlie

Good evening ....

John .... That looks like an expensive derailment. No insurance company will be involved because railroads are self insured with loss and damge. The vehicles will be a 100% loss. Auto companies require vehicles to be completely scrapped if they are in a derailment. No parts will be salvaged.

Ray .... I am pleased to read your post about how wekl things are going for you. I'm not talking about your potato salad although I bet it is good. Whistling

Ken ... Congratulations for being a non-smoker !

CN Charlie .... Interesting to read about CN's Victoria Beach train.

Brent .... That is a nice photo of a CP train regardless of which one it is.
