BATMANDidn't the guy that bought London Bridge think he was buying Tower bridge at the time?
Now that you write that, I think I remember reading that somewhere. You're right - what a letdown when you find out you bought the wrong bridge. What's that old line about, "Psst, hey buddy, I've got a bridge for sale."

Good afternoon from the land of milk and honey. It is a beautiful day at 16c.
Got on the bike this morning and felt so good I just kept going and going and going. There were really good tunes goin on the radio and that usually really gets my motor runnin. The computer said I burned off 1573 calories and I was soaked through. Came into the office where my wife was, I was lookin about half past dead with a couple of dog towels wrapped around me to soak up the sweat and the wife says "can we go for a walk?" I showered and had a bowl of granola and a couple of monster "Florida" oranges and said, "Lets go!" We walked about 10km through the forest and it was perfect. I don't know what my sister is making for Easter dinner, but there better be a lot of it.
Ray, that is really cool about running part of your workout. I was trying to remember how long you have been at it since you threw down the gauntlet at yourself. I run a bit but most of the time find it very painful due to the arthritis. I will never ever turn down a challenge from some punk kid that thinks he is in shape. I follow them for the first km and blow by them on the way back after the clubhouse turn at the park entrance.
Garry the blue Hudson and train were painted that way for the Royal tour across Canada in 1939. After they came back across the country they headed into the U.S. and I don't know if they went on that train or switched I will have to look. The Hudson was repainted right after the tour. The blue one that I am getting from Rapido will remain blue and be in regular service on my RR. The tough part will be finding the right coaches to make my own Royal Train. Being the lazy sort I am hoping Rapido will also make the coach consist as well.
TF, glad you had a good time away. Didn't the guy that bought London Bridge think he was buying Tower bridge at the time? Holy let down when that went up.
Ken, keep up the good work for better health. Chip away at the smoking, exercise, and diet. Obesity is actually worse for you than smoking. Think about that pound of butter in the fridge and imagine strapping 50 of those to your body. 50 pounds of fat that is killing you. Ray is a good role model. As long as you are going in the right direction don't worry about how long it takes.

The Conductor: The thing about trains... it doesn't matter where they're going. What matters is deciding to get on.
I think I'll go fire up the layout before we head to my sisters in a couple. But first some Tylenol.
Happy Easter, all the best to all.

Could not ask for a prettier day. High was 78 degress and I did not see a cloud all day. Did get the front and side yard cut and did a little running.
For some reason I woke up at 6:00 AM and could not go back to sleep? Boy I am feeling it now and it is only 4:00 PM. If I am still awake at 6:00 Pm I will be surprised.

Good Evening from Istanbul,
We visited Hagia Sophia today. It was built in 649 as an Orthodox church and is truly amazing both in size and splendor. It became a mosque after the conqest in 1450 and tne gold leaf mosaics were covered in plaster. Itis now a museum and several mosaics have been restored.
Time for bed even though it is only 9:30.. Iam very tired after spending12 hours on a plane llast night. We were very late leaving Johannesurg due to a thunderorm.

Thanks Dave... It has been. We ran into a friend staying in our hotel in Laughlin which made our time even more fun down there.
He lives next door to Stillwater in Hudson Wisconsin. We have joining rooms in Stillwater tonight. We ran into a few other friends down by the river this afternoon.
It was 75 degrees today Any nice weekend day, the bikes and classic cars tear up this town

Sounds like a good time TF!

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
Hey.... How you all doing? Just got back from the vacation thing yesterday.... Somewhat.
Ray Sorry to hear about your cat. Always a tough thing to go through.
Ken Good job on the quit smoking battle. There ain't no rules! Whatever way works for you, is good for you.
My favorite part of the vacation was Oatman Arizona. Wild donkeys roam the town like tame dogs. These donkeys are descendants of work donkeys from the gold mines of the late 1800s.
These donkeys still remain a hundred years later. They leave town at dusk everyday to burrow in the foothills. They return late morning everyday to be fed by tourists.
That is not Judy in the photo. You would know if it was Judy.
We also went to Lake Havasu Arizona, to see the London Bridge.
We got back home on the red-eye flight at 2:30 in the morning Friday and slept till noon. We are now an hour away from home at Stillwater Minnesota to finish up Judy's days off.
We just got done partying at the Mad Capper by the river. Now we're back in the hotel room sucking down some more beers
Take it easy all TF
Brent,
Thanks for the additional information on your history with IMS. I found a provider not too far from home.
I did not consider arthritis, of which I have enough. I did an ice dive once. It was brittle ice, only about an inch thick that breaks apart like ice machine ice. So there was no risk of being trapped beneath the ice. However the water trickles down the back of your neck and spine to fill your wet suit.
Simming in the broken ice, you feel like you are in a highball. I never made a second ice dive and would strongly suggest wiping that one off your bucket list.

Beautiful Day here in Maryville IL To bad I wasted it. I knew better but a I had a hash brown for breakfest and I was done for the day. Blood surger has been low for weeks, today it was 75. So, I had one and it was a mistake.
Been a little weak in regards to smoking today. Right now I have had 3.5 for the day. I hope to keep it under 5.5.
Afternoon folks,
I have been doing a bit more cleaning out of old crap around the house today. Amazing the useless stuff I have saved over the years. Some will get passed onto my son and his family for them to deal with... LOL I found two paintings by an uncle of my late wife which are "family heirlooms" I guess. I will see if my son will take them to the Reunion of that side of my late wife's family this summer if they go. Frankly they are not that good and certainly nothing I would put up on my walls.
I also drove over to the farm store and bought more bird seed to feed the squirrels......

Got rid of all cats stuff. Had the carpets professioanlly cleaned. Replaced some furniture again .... No more cats, we said .... Guess what.... within about 2 years, we adopted a rescue cat from Cincinnati, OH. ... Then a short while later, it was a rescue cat from Paducah, KY ...... Next it was a rescue cat from Clarksville, TN.... Our current trio of cats has been very enjoyable.
Hi Garry. I will not have any more pets for the moment.... Now If I link up with a lady who wants a lifetime commitment and SHE wants a cat or two or three or a doggie. That would be a different story alltogether. I will not tie myself down to having to take care of pets again at the moment. I have other things on my agenda.....

Good morning .... We arrived home after midnight last night. ... Sleeping in this morning and the phone rang at 8:30. It was telemarketing about a reverse mortgage scam. Idiot. We never borrow any money for anything anytime. If we did, the last type of loan we would chose is a reverse mortage scam. Such lending should be illegal.

Lion, nice pictures. Your platforms look pretty quiet!
Mornin' folks!
Ken, . You're moving in the right direction! Keeping you in my [prayers, my friend...
Well, (deep subject) I did something yesterday that I haven't done in about 45 years! Went over to the field house for my walk, and ended up running a total of about 2 and a half of the 22 laps. Started on the first lap and just decided that I was walking a fast as I could possibly walk and started to jog. Had no trouble doing that at all. Felt great! So I jogged/ran about 1/3 a lap about every other lap or so. Got my heartbeat up to 145 (did watch that closely). A personal trainer that I have become friends with over there said that was perfect and quized me about diet (which he approved of, BTW). So.... Now I have a new dimension in my excersize program. I finished the first set (7 laps) averaging 3 minute laps yesterday! When I started I could hobble around the track in about 4 minutes and 10 seconds. So I feel quite good about my current fitness level!
Started work on a DPM structure yesterday as well. Also got a bit more junk sorted and out to the trash. The pet sitter is going to take several items I have from the kitties to use for the Feral Cat program in both Geneva and Canandaigua. That gets rid of the rest of any useful items left over for the cats. I threw out a vial (actually an epi pen that he would have only used about 1/4 of in two months, $90 worth) of insulin I had used..... Once for Blackie. Oh well, only money.
Back to weeding out!

Good morning, everyone. Another beautiful morning on the plains.
Off to see granddaughters today. These are the closest grandchildren, only two hours away.
My son-in-law has a dead tree in his backyard and wanted me to bring my chainsaw. I tried to start it this morning and could not get it working. Isn't that terrible? Now I'll have to play with the grandkids instead of working on cutting trees. I'm really upset.
Ken, you're doing well. When I quit, I had to quit drinking coffee for a while because I always had a cigarette with my coffee, and I couldn't get through a cup without one. If you can get through that morning coffee without one, you're doing great.
Lion, you do a great job. I have never seen an entire layout of a subway system before -- it looks really good. You have a real talent.
Have a great Easter Saturday.
Hi Dave, I went for IMS for a few years at the Arthritis Centre At VGH. I was told at the onset at diagnosis, it was going to get nasty for me for a few years until my back fused right up and it was for the most part not a good time in my life. I would go every ten days or so and the relief was tremendous. Others mileage may vary I guess.
There was a symposium in Vancouver where Rheumatologist from all over the world came and they used me to demonstrate the effectiveness of IMS. I had all these Doctors looking at me and some of them said I was the worst case they had ever seen. There were other guinea pigs there as well, most had become extremely obese with the onset of their arthritis. A lot of the conversation was about my good physical condition compared to the other patients in the room and the difference it would make in my recovery.
When I started to get really bad they said it would likely take 5 years to get through the worst part, well it took almost ten, but I am finally starting to feel better. Still in pain but not unbearable pain and I stopped the IMS a couple of years back as I got a better handle on things. Good muscle tone keeps the old bones lined up properly and that really helped a lot.
I honestly don't know where I would be today without the care I got at the Arthritis centre it was the best. Even the parking was free.
I had an 8-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old son when I went off work, fortunately, I could retire with a full pension as I had 2 1/2 years sick time in the bank as I hardly had ever took a day off sick. Made it to 55 with 36 years in with the Feds.
Had to take the kid to hockey 2 or 3 times a week and skating became so painful I just had to coach from the bench at practice. Had a couple of really great older kids to help out.
Ken, my kids get their brains from their mother and their tenacity from me. It is a good combination for them to have. I am a blue collar guy with grade 12 education, my wife is a Veterinary surgeon with degrees in Agriculture, genetics, and nutrition. We are lucky to have her. People tell us all the time we were a good breeding pair. She was the first woman in my life that I could carry on an intelligent conversation with, without I had to marry her. She looks just like Meryl Streep and occasionally gets asked if she is her.
Time for bed, maybe Meryl is still awake!
Night all.
BATMANDave, ask the Physio about IMS it would give me instant relief for about ten days as my muscles would get tighter and tighter by the pain I was going through.
Hi Brent,
I have only read briefly about Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) but my symptoms certainly would suggest that it be looked into. For the uninitiated, in simple terms IMS is very similar to accupuncture but the needles target specific points where the skeletal muscles have tightened up and are pinching the nerves.
You mentioned that your pain was relieved for about 10 days. The promoters of the therapy suggest that the relief should last much longer than that. Do you have any idea of what the normal pain free period is? Also, how many times have you had the treatment, and was the result the same each time?
Thanks,
Eveing Diners
Flo, give the gang and I a please.
Brent Your with must have good Genes with your kids being so bright! Well, you may have helped a little.
Dang I all most made! I finally gave in when I got home tonight and had 1 cigarette. Big hurtle I cleared was this morning! I did not have a cigarette with my coffee in front of the computer in the garage / train room. Real test will be Saturday when I am off work, we will see what happens.
Funny thing at work I kept wanting to lite my E-Cigarette! One time for a split second I had flame on the E Cigarette, no damge done.
Well, I am done so later.
Ken
Okay Henry, you have got me reading now. The last couple of times just snorkeling in Hawaii it hurt like all get out soon as I hit about twenty feet. My cousin was an instructor and even taught ice diving to the military and he had to quit as the family arthritis curse got him. He said he had issues with DCI in his arthritic joints and it was generally painful even at 25 feet. I may give it a go when the oppourtunity presents itself.
I am glad I took care of my bucket list before I settled down.
Got in the car this morning and the windshield and the hood was green with pollen. My hayfever doesn't kick in until the honeysuckle is in bloom, another month.
Baltimore is in an uproar over (down Vinnie down...no politics this time) over measles. Apparently an infected family went to a doctors office, then went shopping, to several stores. It's only 4 cases but you would think it is the second coming of Ebola.
At last an illness I don't have to worry about. I did have a childhood neighbor who died of measles, but that was when everyone had measles.
I brought my roundhouse chimneys upstairs to trim off the sprues and paint. Put them on the kitchen table and now they are no where to be found.
Working with Campbell's shingles for the first time. The cut side is longer than the not cut side so they want to go on curved. Hopefully the chimneys will turn up.
BATMANI think I am not healthy enough to dive anymore which is heartbreaking.
That strikes me as an fascinating issue. I was afraid to ask my cardiologist, but i'm probably not healthy enough to ski, at least out west, where there is altitude and maybe a slight uphill trek to the next ski lift.
East coast skiing, especially Mid Atlantic skiing, is more like advance sledding. I think that would be doable.
In diving, every 33' is another atmosphere of pressure, but you only feel that in your ears and sinuses. Putting on a wetsuit in the middle of August or going ice diving is certainly a stress. All the sport diving I have done, physical conditioning was never even close to being an issue.
Unfortunately my former collegue who ran a hyperbaric chamber and was a navy Seal, is no longer around to ask this question.
Good afternoon from the sunny West Coast, it is 14c and we expect sunny skies for the foreseeable future.
Thanks for the kind words about the kid, we are excited for him, considering the company he had in that school, the honour is really something.
There are dozens of chemicals in the human body and a long list of reasons that the delicate balance can be thrown out of whack. My recent pain and suffering due to a magnesium issue is a good example. Fortunately for me, my highly educated wife pulled me through yet again.
Arsenic is a natural substance, yet none of us are in a hurry to start consuming that. I don't take any meds or supplements until I have read up on them thoroughly. You should get all the vitamins and minerals you need in a healthy diet. You won't find much in the naturopathic potion department in this house.
Both my wife's parents had high cholesterol and their MD gave them meds for it. My wife set to work finding out why their bodies were producing too much cholesterol. She had them off those nasty meds in no time as their levels returned to normal. Don't treat the symptom fix the cause. Some of my wifes most frustrating work came from animals with chemical imbalances caused by owners giving their pets homemade potions found on the internet or even commercial products that the animal never needed in the first place. She has a degree in nutrition and sure knows her stuff.
Dave, ask the Physio about IMS it would give me instant relief for about ten days as my muscles would get tighter and tighter by the pain I was going through. Also, read up on Omega3 fatty acids before you buy it if you decide to.
Acupuncture can be a good way to go. One of the wife's fellow Vets does it. In the past, we have had it done to a couple of our old dogs and they went from not being able to get up to running around the yard again. The horse my daughter was riding could not lift its head very high and started just laying in its stall. They called in the acupuncturist and after one treatment it was back up and after three treatments, completely back to normal.
At 62 years of age, I have never waited for anything as far as the health care system goes. I have made good use of it with my semi-extreme sporting way of life. Walking into a hospital, getting a broken bone fixed then leaving without taking out my wallet is a good deal if you ask me.
My last experience was a couple of years ago when after two years of putting up with a very painful shoulder I waved the white flag and on a Tuesday went to the Doctor about it. Saw the surgeon Thursday, had an MRI the following Monday and was booked for surgery 16 days later. I had the surgery date moved until summer was over as I had plans. All it cost me was gas and parking.
My Mom had a bad heart attack one afternoon and when the paramedics arrived they pulled out a laptop and immediately had her full health records including all the meds she was on right in front of them. No need to try and have panic-stricken family members trying to run around the house trying to figure out what she was on. One of her out of country friends was quite indignant about the government knowing what medications she was on. Mom said they pay for them so of course, they know. They ended up taking her into Vancouver for a quintuple bypass and after her seven weeks of hospital care, it didn't cost her a dime.
Well, it is time to go watch Toronto fend off the Bruins, Winnipeg is my hometown so I am now cheering for them to win the cup, they do look shaky. Then there is Calgary. The Vancouver Canucks have never won the Stanley Cup in the 49 years they have been in the league. One of my wishes, before I croak, is they do. I am confident it will happen.
Charlie, can't wait to see the pics of the trip. I think I would like to visit Namibia it looks stunning there. Daughter is out of high school in two months and the wife and I will be free to hit the road or most likely the airport. We can't decide where to go first as we both have traveled a lot already when we were young. I think we will try to get a South Pacific cruise that stops in at Easter Island and Chile and maybe winds its way to or from Guam. I want to go to Tinian and Saipan, for some reason I am drawn by the history of those places. I think I am not healthy enough to dive anymore which is heartbreaking. The weight of the water on this arthritic body would too painful. At least I got to do the Barrier Reef.
I put my first item for sale ever on Ebay. I was ready to take it to the recycle and looked to see if it was worth anything and there were two that sold for $309.00 US. So I changed my mind about junking it. There are a hundred views already with no bids.
This post is too long for anyone to read, I better stop rambling.
All the best to all.
Good Evening from Johannesburg,
Ray, Sorry to hear about your kitty. Pets are so special. Our Robbie is 10 now and I doubt we will get another dog as they are a 15 year comitment.
We are packing up tonight to start the homeward trek tomorrow. The first of 2 10 hour flights. We are stopping in Istanbul for 2 nights to see the sights. We are flying Turkish Airines which means a connection through that city.
We saw a lot of wildebeest and I thought how much Lion enjoys them. I also saw 2 lions feasting on one.
Just short note as typing on this tablet is a pain.
