Has anyone, but me, heard of pecking or picking eggs?  You hold the hard boiled egg in your hand with just the tip exposed.  A friend or family member use the like end of his/her egg and taps on your egg.  One of the will break, and you switched ends and pickers.

The idea is to have your egg unbroken.  No one in my extended family at Easter dinner had heard of that, outside my blood relatives.   It's in wikipedia.

Epper Epper...

Yes that is what it was called by Br. Juan Diego, hos family hailed from Lithuania. They would cry Epper Epper, and then try to break the other guy's egg.

I got one of the ceramic eggs out of the display cupboard... : )

No and yes.  I never knew there was a name for that, but I know exactly what you're talking about.  My father and uncle always had us do that around Easter.  There is a trick to "winning" that we never learned, because we always lost.

Oh, if anyone wants to try this, make sure the egg is hardboiled first.

Me, either!  I've never heard of this.

Now, the question is what do you win if yours is the unbroken egg?

For those of you not from the South. A Dollar General is a smallish genreal merchandise store, like a mini walmart.

There're all over up here, to, Family Dollar, The Dollar Store, Dollar General, Dollar Tree,  take your pick.

Why we even have a Dollar General right here in lill'ole East Troy, WI.  The local planning commish. made them do a brick front, and not just the pole barn look.  It ws quite a controversey.

Welcome to a new week, everybody. Our Diner special this morning is hardboiled egg and carved ham breakfast wraps.

What? "Easter leftovers?" Perish the thought! Confused

It's another nice spring day, but cloudy, windy, and cold.  Another day to actually wear a hood and gloves while walking the two miles on the trail.

I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend.  I got to see one set of grandkids who only live two hours away.  The others are 10 hours away, and I feel badly that we don't get to see them very often.

The roof on it has a slope change 1/3rd of the way up so getting that correct will be fun!

Dave,

I actually tried to do that.  I have seen pictures of depots that have that kind of roof.

I even cut out paper and cardboard templates trying to get the angles right, but I finally gave up after getting so frustrated and just did a straight roof.

That experience is what I'm lacking, but after seeing pictures of what forum modelers are doing, I get enthused about trying it.

I don't think I'm ready to try learning computer drawing yet.  My goal for 2019 is to learn how to build and use some Arduino circuits.

Good Morning,

Went to Nashville Saturday. It rained and was 44 degrees, I headed back home about noon ( was an early morning radio show) Skies cleared at temp went up to 70 as I drove back towards home. I stopped off in Paris TN to deliver a radio back to owner, and on the way there I saw a Dollar General store with a Gas Station, I have never seen one with gas. For those of you not from the South. A Dollar General is a smallish genreal merchandise store, like a mini walmart. They have been adding grocery stores to some. My wife and I keep saying Dollar General is going to take over the retail world. They will put them in the most backwoods locations and they do a booming business because then you don't have to drive in to "town" to the Walmart. I am surprised there is not one in the empty cube here at work behind me.

Hi Dave,

hon30critter
Time for some personal attention!

That is my take on my my life..... Smile

hon30critter
but I am of the opinion that your sister is toxic for you. You don't need that sort of negativity. Nobody does. Perhaps take a break from her for a while too.

Oh yeah....  I don't spend much time with her anymore and avoid her when possible.  There are some times when I really don't have a choice and when my family is around her, I like to be there to change subjects when I can.  There is one in every family!  I do feel sorry for her, but her know it all and being right on any and every subject that comes up just gets me riled up.  It probably is good to see her once in a while to remind myself of what I don't want to become in my life.... Whistling  She has managed to "lose" most of her friends over the years.  many have died and just as many just don't spend any time with her anymore.  Sad!

Thanks Dave.

LOL.....  Everything else I am doing for too many other groups is what is interfering with my model railroading! I am in the process of finding time for the new diections I want to go in my life by stepping down with those things that consume way too much of my time.

Ray,

You have earned the right to go in a different direction! You have done so much for your community in the past. You have influenced countless young people through your Scouting initiatives alone.

Time for some personal attention!

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and you can tell me to mind my own business if you wish, but I am of the opinion that your sister is toxic for you. You don't need that sort of negativity. Nobody does. Perhaps take a break from her for a while too.

Morning folks!

Chloe, I'll have a bowl of organic granola with a handful of fresh blueberries on top, and a pot of organic, fair traded dark roast coffee to start the day.  Then I'm off to get ready to travel to a gent's layout over near Spencerport, NY to help evaluate his layout for the Scenery Certificate towards his earning Master Model Railroader.  There will be three of us going hopefully.

Hi John,

Your station looks great! For a first scratchbuild I am impressed.

As Ed mentioned, I'm going to scratchbuild the Huntsville station. The roof on it has a slope change 1/3rd of the way up so getting that correct will be fun! I have used 3rdPlanIt to design the structure and I believe there is a way to convert an angled surface to a flat surface so you can see the actual dimensions.

I'll have to get off my bottom and start cutting styrene. I have all the parts.

You are doing well! By the way, it's your life. I know you don't need advice, but if you want to date someone, you're old enough to know what you want.

Thanks!  My sister, I think, is just scared I won't be there to help her out every time she needs somebody to take care of her cats, take her to and pick her up from the airport whenever she goes on one of her trips to the "very far", etc.  And, of course, she knows everything about everything!  Just ask her...  You don't need to, BTW, she will inform you of her expertise of everything without you even asking, LOL You may think she ticked me off more than a little bit today.  You would be right.

She is an expert on relationships having had two terrible marriages, and tens of "Boyfriends" over the years.....  She just can't figure out what on earth I would need to actually want to fall for some female when I could get.....  Ah......., I better not go there.  WhistlingSmile, Wink & Grin

BATMAN

TF, glad you had a good time away. Didn't the guy that bought London Bridge think he was buying Tower bridge at the time? Holy let down when that went up.Laugh

Happy Easter, all the best to all.

BrentSmileYes.... The best way I can answer this question is from recollection.  Keep in mind, some of my trip was a little blurry as I was having a really good time down there with Judy and my friends.

What sparked my interest to go to Lake Havasu and see this bridge was some guy named McCulloch bought the bridge over many shots of scotch and negotiation for approximately 2.5 million dollars.

He had a lot of interest in tourism in Lake Havasu Arizona for some reason.  He spent another 7 million to get the pieces of the 200 year old granite veneer, re-located and numbered well for reconstruction.

The old story of London bridges falling down when you were a little kid is true.  Apparently this bridge was sinking in an England river for many years.

The bridge was reconstructed with a heavy sub infrastructure.  The 200-year veneer of historic London Bridge was added as the outside shell and therefore creating the replica of London Bridge, built over Lake Havasu around 1968-70.

Happy Easter everyone    TF

Brent   What you asked could very well be true.  I wouldn't doubt it.

If I didn't know any better I'd say it is the spitting image of the Huntsville, Ontario depot that HOn3Critter, Dave, is planning to build for his club layout?

That Huntville, Ontario depot does look similar!

I actually used the Burlington Station in Grand Island, Nebraska, as the model.

The station is the site of the TriCity Model Railroad Association.  They have a layout in the old freight depot at the far end of the picture.  It is a beautifully restored station.

Ray, you mentioned that you walk at a field house.  Is that at a nearby college?  When the weather doesn't cooperate, I also walk at a college field house.  They have an elevated 200 meter track.  I try to go two miles each day.  I really like the outside trail better.  I get a little bored going around a track 16 times.  I don't think I could keep up with you, though.  You are doing well!  By the way, it's your life.  I know you don't need advice, but if you want to date someone, you're old enough to know what you want.

I'm afraid the layout won't get much attention for a while.  The weather is now good enough to start yard work and some outdoors home repairs.  I hate cutting the grass so much that I would be tempted to pave the yard and paint it green.

Evenin' Folks!

BATMAN
Ray, that is really cool about running part of your workout. I was trying to remember how long you have been at it since you threw down the gauntlet at yourself.

Actually started walking agian mid February 2018.  The first few weeks I felt good about myself if I was able to hobble around the track about 4 times doing a lap every 4 minutes and 10 seconds....  Last friday my time on average for the first 7 laps of the 22 I now do (4 miles +) was just short of 3 minutes per lap.  I did the 7 laps in just over 20 minutes.  Just walking is no longer getting my heart rate up to the "peak" level on the fitbit.  I have had no aches or pains from the running, BTW.  Won't get my miles in tomorrow as I will be heading out with a couple other guys to judge scenery on a gents layout for the Scenery, AP Certificate in the NMRA Acheivement Program.  Will try to get some milage in after I get home around the block if possible.

Need to spend qiute a lot of time getting a newsletter out for the NMRA Division and  bunch of stiff done for the MLK Committee next week.  I will also be meeting with a contractor about some long overdue renovations here at my house.  I want to do over my bedroom and the hallway by the bedrooms.  Now that I have no cats, I can get more of that done without worrying about them them getting outside or being stressed.

Easter was fun today, great church service, until I then went to Canandaigua for the obligatory nonsence with my sister at our annual lunch out with the whole family at a crowded and noisy restaurant....  She is dead set against me starting to date again.....  Doesn't like or trust anyone that I might meet online.  She absolutely hates the lady I went to Key West to visit and thinks I am stupid to be even looking (she has never met her, BTW).  She is a pain... Period!  She doesn't want me to get "hurt" I guess.  I should be perfectly happy just sitting here at my house and living the same old, same old lonely life I have had for 30 years....  She drives me nuts!  Oh, and instead of walking and such I should do what she does....  Volunteer to push folks around to their appointments once a week at the local hospital....  She thinks getting 3 or 4 thousand steps in one day a week is much better excerize than the 17,000 I am now averaging a day....  Plus....  I hate hospitals! LOL

Hope you all have a great evening out there in cyberspace!

Good Evening All,

A great day outside and I also spent some time putting down ballast in the yards. It's pretty fiddley stuff with all the turnouts in there so I'm just doing a little at a time. All the track works now save for the turntable which I may end up tearing out to fix.

York1 - the station looks great.

I love the progress you're all making health wise.

Time for dinner and then back to sifting little rocks onto the tracks. CUL, J.R.

The roof of this took me forever.  I should have paid more attention in high school geometry.  I got the windows online, but built the rest out of polystyrene sheets.  While this was my first "from scratch" building, I enjoyed it so much that building these has become my favorite part of the hobby.

Doing this also made me want to change from N Scale to HO.  I envy some of you who have talents developed over years.  I really am impressed with your layouts, and hope to learn quite a bit from your experience.
