I've chatted with Ken at length, several times on the phone. Yep, I would trust him (but I would check with Sparkie to verify Wink).

The T-1 can smoke (or I guess that would be 'vape'?) but Ken can not!

Good Tuesday morning.  It's still cool here, around 45 degrees, when I walk in the morning.  With the wind blowing, I'm still wearing a hood and gloves.

Last summer we came home through northern Utah.  Using I-80 from Nevada, we came through the salt flats of western Utah.  What an amazing place - over 50 miles of a straight highway through bright white salt flats.

I didn't get to stop, but I wanted to see the open pit copper mine southwest of Salt Lake City again.  I haven't seen it since I was a kid.

This summer, we will go back to Utah for a Five Day - Five National Parks trip.  We need to make some reservations, we've heard the hotels there get booked up pretty early.

I know the UP train will not be going  there, but wouldn't it be great to see the two locomotives cross the Great Salt Lake west of Odgen!

Another cloudy, rainy day here.  Another great day to work on the layout.

Good Morning All,

   Just a regular to go please. All that talk of vegemite and marmite have put me right off my feed. Just look at that poor woman hair above and she's only had one bite. 

   I had lots of SOS on offer when I was stationed at an Army base on Okinawa. The mess hall used to have a sign out front announcing how many days since the last fatality. The Air Force base at Misawa, Japan wasn't much better. 

   My son and I had a good weekend at Road Atlanta. We also ran the Audi R-8 LMP1 and a couple of Indy Lites for customers. Josh and I ran a pair of Lotus 18s' in the Formula Junior group and I finished second an third and he finished fourth both days. Josh led a couple of times but with a smaller motor he was a sitting duck on the straight.

Like sausage, you want to enjoy it but not see how it's made. It is made from spent yeast from the beer making process.

I like it... occasionally. Vegemite runs a close second.

Judy and I are food connoisseurs.  The ribs did fall off the bone, and 6 inches wide, the chicken was excellent.  After we try another, another new place, we'll be back to this place.

That wouldn't have been my ex WW2 navy vet dad, who also claimed they served him captured Japanese rice in Guadalcanal.  He didn't eat rice either except there was a Chinese Carryout in Baltimore called Jimmy Wu's.  He and my mother often ordered there but only Chop Suey or Chow Mein. 

In college there was a Chinese American who worked at Jimmy's and he made us dinner.  It was those micro corn cobs and stuff that looked nothing like chop suey or chow mein, it was great!

Year later I was in Chinatown, NYC with another Chinese American friend and he ordered off the Chinese language menu.  Even better.

The story takes a turn for the worse.  My friend who was recently killed in a motorcycle accident went to China a couple times a year for business.  He went outside of the restaurant to "pick" what he was going to eat. Lot's of stuff that you will never find in Krogers or Whole Foods.

I don’t know if it’s for the same reason as you, Charlie,  and even though I’ve never tried it, but my visual aversion to “The White Stuff” harks back to my boyhood, when the likes of cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, etc were boiled until they turned into a greyish white mush, drained, served with “White Sauce”. I still shudder at the thought!!Ick!Ick!
Thank goodness for the Chinese immigrants who taught us how to cook vegetables properly.

TF Today I took some of the darn plant's out. (I hate bring them in and out) One planter I hated moving was a Palm Plant that is 20 years old and wife and friend repotted say 10 years ago. It had been feeling very heavy to me for years and hated moving it! Bang Head Today, well it felt much lighter?

 Far as good Biscuit and Gravy Not getting here at my house if the wife made it! Ick! Taste like Elmer Glue with chucks of Sausage thrown in. I made great Biscuit and Gravy! Wife did not like it because it had flavor!

Isn't that what they called "SOS"? I can't print the first word here because of the forum rules, but the phrase went something like "Substance On (a) Shingle". I saw a Food Network episode of 'Diners, Drive-ins and Dives' hosted by Guy Fieri that featured a restaurant that served SOS as a daily staple. There were dozens of vets ordering it every day.

I have to admit that we do ground beef in a mushroom sauce every once in a while, usually over pasta, although we have served it on toasted garlic buns too. Hey, add a little spinach or broccoli and call it healthy! I quite like it! That just proves that there is no disputing taste (or lack thereof)!

What has been your luck with curved turnouts? At one time I heard they are pain in the caboose!

Hi Ken,

We have several Peco curved turnouts in our mainline at the club and so far they have worked flawlessly. Granted they haven't had a ton of use, but nothing has derailed on them so far.

We used Pecos because the Atlas Code 83 turnouts weren't available when we were laying the track. I would definitely have a look at the Atlas units. The Pecos are rather expensive.

 Steve O while your breakest looked good I opted for this. 3 Egg Omelet with fried mushroom's, Onions, Sausage, Jalapeno topped with Sosta. Dinner Hum good!

 Yardwork Well it sure was not yesteday but it was not because I did not feel good. It was just unpleasant to do, so I said screw it. I was crawling under evergreen bushes cutting out salping that where growing. Got 2 of them out but a pain.

 Layout Question? OK, while having 18" radius turns has saved me from buy more, it might be the time to go to 22" radius. Whistling Thanks to Ed score a EM-1 with sound for $230.00. Qustions are.

 1 What sizes Atllas turnout I need to get a 22" radius diveging line?

Dave, luckily our favourite cafe took poutine off the menu and they did do it right. 

Today we tried some of the Turkish Delight we bought at the spice bazar in Istanbul. Wow is it ever good. Nothing like the stuff I've had that was made here. We plan on rationing it over the next couple of weeks.

So, Utah next month?  Seems like people go crazy over the big boy steam loco.  I've seen the one the Railroad Museum in Green Bay, WI has.  It's inside, and it's hard to get an overhaul view of it's size.

I heard a story that when the 4-8-8-4 was developed it was supposed to be dubbed Wasatch, as in the engine that conquered the Wasatch Range. But when it came out, somebody took one look and nicknamed it Big Boy. And that stuck.

Mind you we do have poutine which is cheese curds on french fries with gravy preferably chicken gravy but the beef kind works too. I have it about once every 5 years as I can't imagine what my arteries would say. 

I had poutine today for lunch! I don't do that very often but every once in a while you have to break the rules. I asked for crispy fries but didn't get them so the poutine was just okay. They used beef gravy too. CNCharlie is right - it has to be chicken gravy, salty chicken gravy!DinnerBowPirateCowboy It wasn't good enough to break the rules over. That's a good thing! It will prevent me from ordering it again for a long time.Smile, Wink & GrinLaugh
