Cudaken.... You feel good cuz you're not smoking so much anymore.  You are starting to Breathe Again.  You will continue duplicating your day you had,  keeping up the good work.  Also your many more days will followYes

I went out to my buddy Erv's today.  I don't miss my garage so much with my good friend Erv.

A retired mechanic with all the tools, helps me get my brake job done on my truck, quick in a part of a dayWink

Erv is my best friend.  Always will be.

I remember my Mother telling me.... "If you have one real friend towards the end of your life, you are doing good"

I have plenty of fair-weathered friends, but no one like my friend Erv.

 Eveing Diners!

Flo, give the gang and I a Beer please and leave a stein outside for Ulrich.

For some strange reason I felt good today? Not sure why I just wish I could duplicate it! Cut some grass, repaired the rear fences, cut up a large pine tree limb 8" around, hauled it out to the front, cut off another 8" pine tree limb that had been hanging over the in ground pool, cut it up and draged out front, weed wack by and behind the diving board, cleaned up some of debris around the pool and did a small honey do for the wife.

Maybe I seeing a small benfit from cutting back my smoking?

 Later, Ken

Afternoon all, it is another warm sunny day West of the Rockies. Kept getting kicked off earlier as I was trying to post a link to a unique staging track I came across on FB, I will keep trying to get a link up, although I can't even find it anymore.

Just got off the John Deere, the grass was overdue for a trim.

Yesterday I was at the school helping to get ready for the annual fair the school holds. It is a big undertaking but brings in around $100,000.00 for the school so it is well worth the effort. There are only 675 students from K-12 so it makes a big difference to the budget. I am sure feeling it today. Came home to a house full of people ate four chicken legs with thighs attached a mountain of potatoes and a mountain of veggies, three glasses of cab and a double Rum and Pepsi. This morning it was all I could do to climb on the bike but I managed to burn off 1050 calories in about forty minutes so I paid the bill for the pig-out.DinnerLaugh

According to my daughter, the school brought in about $135,000.00 from the all-day relay for cancer. Again with only 675 students, it is a good haul, they work long and hard to get that much. Apparently, they almost always come in third for the amount raised out of all the schools that participate in North America. That is incredible for such a small school. They do blow every other school out of the water when it comes to amounts raised per student so it makes them feel pretty good.

One of our best friends that comes every Saturday had bowel cancer and had it removed and was good for a couple of years and it has returned to her liver. A horrible disease.

The kid is on his way home. 130 pounds of luggage. His plane was an hour late leaving Ottawa and he has to make one stop in Winnipeg, my home town. I have to drive into Vancouver to get him, that will be tough as I am still wiped out from yesterday. Gettin old sucks.

BMW has come out with a new Roadster the 40i, I am overdue for a new car and this one has really got my attention 0-60 in3.9 secs. Now the Daughter is graduating I think a couple of road trips South will be in order and the Roadster would be the perfect fit. After watching Kevin's adventure I feel the need to go for a drive.Laugh

Well I can't remember the last time I ever took a nap, but one sounds pretty good about now.

1929.

Image may contain: sky, mountain, outdoor and nature

All the best to all.

Edit; I found this guy with the cool staging idea. It is "A Modlerslife Podcast" The guy is Luke Lemmans with his Soo line layout. Can't link it for some reason but if you can hunt it down it is worth a look.

LION is a monk. Him lives in a monastery.

Lion, I'm impressed with your subway layout.

Is it completely yours, or do any other monks work on it with you?

ou never cease to amaze me. Where you once a nurse? WowConfused The funny thing is.... I don't even know if I'm serious or not asking that question.

LION is a monk. Him lives in a monastery. Monasteries alsway have old monks in them. Fifty of us have died since I came here 35 years ago.

The monastery sent me to school to study nursing. At least I can do the job right.

The chair is a recent aqusition, we bought it on ebay for about $2500.

The cabinets were custom made for us by TMI, a company here in Dickinson ND, with brojects all over the country. They make custom cabinetry for hospitals, dorctor's offices, and any other commercial or office building that you can imagine. The ones we got were pretty generic. Just poked some buttons at a computer terminal and sent in my request. It came back from a representitive that guided me all the way throught the rest of the process.

The arrangement of the cabinets and drawers was all my idea basssed on what was available.

LION is also Network Administrator, managing 5 servers, and 40 workstations. Gotta have expensive firewalls to keep the pornography out.

LION also seels Wine. We have Altar Wine and Table Wine. Because of ND law, we can impiort altar wine directly from the winery. For table wine I place the order with the winery, and when the entire order is ready I call the local distributer, give him the two purchase orders, one for the Altar Wine (He needs that to arrange the trucking) and the other goes to the distribuyter who places the "Real" table Wine order with the Winery. He pays the taxes on the table wine.

State law says that the table wine must come to rest in his ware house. So the truck stops hat hsi shop, he opens the door and looks insinde. "YUP, It's Wine" and sendss the truck on to our place where we unload it and strike the wine below.

That used to mean dropping each case (for a whole tractor trailer) down a ram and luggging it into position. LION said the heck with this and we cut come wider doors in some baement rooms, and now we can simply pull whole pallets into our cellars.

Thanks Ed, and TF.  The station has been on the lay out then off, back and forth.  When I built that work bench, I figured if I put the station front of may face, I'd get back to work on it.

And Ed your right on about the scenario of the project.  I had come up with a totally ficticious plan involving an organization called the WRAA, the WI Rail Advancement Assoc., to promote passenger rail through out the state of WI.

I had come up with a color scheme for a couple of different communtor services, and the planned long haul passenger train, that I stated a thread about, a while back.

My station would be one of the regular stops, along with Amtrak.

So many projects Indifferent

I think if I was to go on a train/modeler/history adventure, such as Kevin, I would head East.  My ancestors are from PA., and I've never been there.

I understand one of the missions of his trip is to visit a daughter?

Anyway!!  Last nights snow gave us about 2" of the heavy stuff, much more tolerable than the 5-6" called for.  The sun is out, temps warming, and the snow is almost gone.

As the weather turns more to Spring and beyond, my modeling time will be winding down.  Time for "1:1 building season" to kick in, with many projects on the list.  There will be a period when the lay out room lights won't be on for weeks at a time.

Have a good Sunday eveyone!

Mike.

Ed, great picture of a bluebird.  People try to get bluebirds here -- there was even a group in our town that went out and put bluebird houses on fenceposts in the rural areas.  They got a few, but nothing like some other areas of the country.

Cold morning here, a little frost last night, and only getting into the low 50s this afternoon.

It was cold going to church this morning, but not many people wore coats.  My daughter in Dallas reminds us they can use their pool these days.  I remind her they don't even go outside in August.

I am enjoying reading Kevin's posts about his cross country trip.  There is alot to see in the US and Canada.  It's difficult to pick and choose what we have time to see.

Have a great Sunday.

Great kitbash Mike.  I have always wanted to try a kitbash.  I think I'm going to start buying models I don't want for cheap at Train Shows so I can.

Garry.... You run a tight ship in your work area.  I do believe you may be the first one that qualifies for the Lions nursing station exampleLaugh  As clean and organized as a doctor's officeYes

Ed,

You are good at catching birds in situ!

gmpullman
One time I glanced out at the feeder and had a Bluebird, a bright red Cardinal and an American Goldfinch all sitting side-by-side. What a colorful sight!

We had a similar sight with Cardinals and Goldfinches a couple of days ago but no Bluebirds. I guess we are too far into town to get them here.

We saw some Wood Ducks on Friday. Such a boring name for such a beautiful animal.

My shop is the office of my former wife, the architect. I even made built-in drawers for blueprints that just happen to be the perfect size for storing HO rolling stock! She left me the nice, vintage, drawing table that is now my actual work bench, too.

Speaking of good office equipment, my wife Dianne (to whom I am still married by the way) gave me a Herman Miller office chair about 10 years ago. It cost a fortune but it has been worth every penny! I can sit in it for hours without any back pain. I can't do that in very many chairs.

A few months ago a pivot bearing broke. It was still under warranty and the mfr. insisted on sending a technician to do the repair so that he could assess the condition of the rest of the chair. We just bought a second one for my workbench.

Well Ed, now that asked.....   It's another kit bash waiting to get finished.

That is a beautiful "scratch-bash/kit-bash" Mike! Bow I'm getting the vibe that it is a 1920's era depot structure that has been modernized for present-day commuter use? The columns and girder work look superb Yes

EDIT: top of the page, have some Indian food, on the house, Niagara Falls NY is famous for good Indian, had some tonight, boy was it good.

Thanks, Harrison, sound's good! It has been a few years since I've enjoyed some dishes of India. I do like all the variations of curry Dinner Sometimes we would season our goat meat with Indian spices! Good Stuff.

Snow mixed with rain here in NE Ohio. Good weather to run some trains!

I saw this earlier in the week, a bluebird at the suet feeder. Taken with a cheap camera through the kitchen window!

Good evening .....

While we are still in Illinois, I'll mention coal. CB&Q served several large coal mines in southern Illinois. Destinations included Chicago, other cities in northern Illinois, and locations in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Burlington hauled the coal with 2-8-2's, 2-10-2's, and 2-10-4's.

In the 1950's and 1960's, Burlington used mostly EMD SD7's . EMD F-units were sometimes used too.

Regarding conversations here about work benches, etc. .... Here is my model railroad work area.

This garage is about the size, if not bigger than my condo.  Much bigger than my garage that I considered big

About 10 years ago, I decided I had had enough of trying to open the car door in the garage and hitting junk.

I built a 10' X 12' shed in the backyard, took all of the junk in the garage, and stashed it in the shed.

In a short time, my wife had refilled the garage with all kinds of junk.  Whenever I threaten to clean it out, she tells me she knows the combination to my gun safe.

Gloomy Damp Day here in Maryville IL. Felt bad most of the day, my blood surgar crashed this morning at 4:30 AM. It was down to 51? I think if over compensated for it and rest of the day not get up and go in me.

Far as garages my second house had the best one. The first floor was the garage! It held a 1971 Challenger, 69 Charger, 68 Road Runner, full size couch, 29 gallon aquarium, work bench, full stack Custom Amp and my desk. Sill had room to walk around. Think I had 4 Big Blocks at the time in storage at one time.

I hear you on that one John.  This garage is about the size, if not bigger than my condo.  Much bigger than my garage that I considered big, when I lived in Prior Lake.  Before I downsized.  I once had cabinets, not as nice as those but I sure do miss my garage.

Going and working on this guy's garage is a big teaser for me.

I love those storage cabinets in the garage, but I know they are super expensive.  I've wanted to have a garage like that for years, but I'll never have one now unless we move to a bigger house.  Not likely.

My work bench isn't even worth taking a picture and posting right now.  Too clean.  I haven't done anything for a while.

It Cycles.  When I'm working on something, like the grain elevator I last did,  it's trashed.  I always clean it up and reorganize in-between projects.

This struck me as funny.  This is my customer I'm working for right now.  It's the continuation of his man cave garage.   Yes it will have a big screen TV.  It's going to be nicer than some people's house.

Check out these cabinets I just uncrated and installed on Friday.  It took longer to uncrate and unwrap these cabinets, that It did to put them together, level out the legs on the floor and fasten them to the wall.

What I'm really getting at here is look at his workbench.  The poor guy hasn't even used it yet and I already trashed it, brand-spanking-new out of the crateLaughLaughWhistling

I could sit right down and feel right at home at your bench area, Mike! I like to be neat-and-tidy if at all possible but when it comes to being creative and I'm on a roll I like to just move ahead on a project and leave the sorting out and dusting up for a later time.

I sure like the looks of that passenger station on the right in the middle photo Yes

We have snow forecast for tomorrow morning, too. As I mentioned in an earlier reply, the Geauga County Maple Festival is this weekend and there is always cold, snow/rain on hand for that event.

My work space is spread out.  Instead of keeping a neat work area, I build another bench when things get to crowded.  I know right where everything is,  it's right where I left it!  Smile, Wink & Grin

One area:

My latest bench, made from the lumber from my Grandson's O gauge:

You can get a peek of the other work areas I have in the backround, that brown curtain hides stuff under the lay out.

One pile of up coming projects:

Working on my MILW. Terminal Caboose project  (That's what the MILW called their shop built transfer cabooses) is my current project.  Last project was the over head crane I did a post on in General Discussion.

We're in the bulls eye for 3" to 6" of snow this PM and evening.  Crying
