Hi John,

Your station looks great! For a first scratchbuild I am impressed.

As Ed mentioned, I'm going to scratchbuild the Huntsville station. The roof on it has a slope change 1/3rd of the way up so getting that correct will be fun! I have used 3rdPlanIt to design the structure and I believe there is a way to convert an angled surface to a flat surface so you can see the actual dimensions.

I'll have to get off my bottom and start cutting styrene. I have all the parts.

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Ray ..... I'm wondering if your anticipated adventures will interfere with your model railroading. Whistling

LOL.....  Everything else I am doing for too many other groups is what is interfering with my model railroading! I am in the process of finding time for the new diections I want to go in my life by stepping down with those things that consume way too much of my time.  Many were great ways to serve the community while filling the empty hole in my life.  But it is time I reach out and find some other good things again.  I will be sure to leave some time to "play with trains" though.....Smile, Wink & Grin

Morning folks!

Chloe, I'll have a bowl of organic granola with a handful of fresh blueberries on top, and a pot of organic, fair traded dark roast coffee to start the day.  Then I'm off to get ready to travel to a gent's layout over near Spencerport, NY to help evaluate his layout for the Scenery Certificate towards his earning Master Model Railroader.  There will be three of us going hopefully.

Ray,

You have earned the right to go in a different direction! You have done so much for your community in the past. You have influenced countless young people through your Scouting initiatives alone.

Time for some personal attention!

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and you can tell me to mind my own business if you wish, but I am of the opinion that your sister is toxic for you. You don't need that sort of negativity. Nobody does. Perhaps take a break from her for a while too.

Hi Dave,

hon30critter
Time for some personal attention!

That is my take on my my life..... Smile

but I am of the opinion that your sister is toxic for you. You don't need that sort of negativity. Nobody does. Perhaps take a break from her for a while too.

Oh yeah....  I don't spend much time with her anymore and avoid her when possible.  There are some times when I really don't have a choice and when my family is around her, I like to be there to change subjects when I can.  There is one in every family!  I do feel sorry for her, but her know it all and being right on any and every subject that comes up just gets me riled up.  It probably is good to see her once in a while to remind myself of what I don't want to become in my life.... Whistling  She has managed to "lose" most of her friends over the years.  many have died and just as many just don't spend any time with her anymore.  Sad!

Thanks Dave.

Good Morning,

Went to Nashville Saturday. It rained and was 44 degrees, I headed back home about noon ( was an early morning radio show) Skies cleared at temp went up to 70 as I drove back towards home. I stopped off in Paris TN to deliver a radio back to owner, and on the way there I saw a Dollar General store with a Gas Station, I have never seen one with gas. For those of you not from the South. A Dollar General is a smallish genreal merchandise store, like a mini walmart. They have been adding grocery stores to some. My wife and I keep saying Dollar General is going to take over the retail world. They will put them in the most backwoods locations and they do a booming business because then you don't have to drive in to "town" to the Walmart. I am surprised there is not one in the empty cube here at work behind me.

Dave,

I actually tried to do that.  I have seen pictures of depots that have that kind of roof.

I even cut out paper and cardboard templates trying to get the angles right, but I finally gave up after getting so frustrated and just did a straight roof.

That experience is what I'm lacking, but after seeing pictures of what forum modelers are doing, I get enthused about trying it.

I don't think I'm ready to try learning computer drawing yet.  My goal for 2019 is to learn how to build and use some Arduino circuits.

It's another nice spring day, but cloudy, windy, and cold.  Another day to actually wear a hood and gloves while walking the two miles on the trail.

I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend.  I got to see one set of grandkids who only live two hours away.  The others are 10 hours away, and I feel badly that we don't get to see them very often.

Howdy ...

Ray .... With all of those changes, I am glad you are continuing your friendly conversations in the Diner. I hope hat never changes.

John .... Glad you had a good visit with gandkids.

MLC .... Paris, TN is a very nice town. .... DG's are everywhere it seems.

Ed ... ATSF F-units at Union Station instead of at Dearborn Station. I am thinking that is an AMtrak trian when Amtrak just started. Nice photo.

Everybody .... Have a nice Monday

Welcome to a new week, everybody. Our Diner special this morning is hardboiled egg and carved ham breakfast wraps.

What? "Easter leftovers?" Perish the thought! Confused

There're all over up here, to, Family Dollar, The Dollar Store, Dollar General, Dollar Tree,  take your pick.

Why we even have a Dollar General right here in lill'ole East Troy, WI.  The local planning commish. made them do a brick front, and not just the pole barn look.  It ws quite a controversey.

Has anyone, but me, heard of pecking or picking eggs?  You hold the hard boiled egg in your hand with just the tip exposed.  A friend or family member use the like end of his/her egg and taps on your egg.  One of the will break, and you switched ends and pickers.

The idea is to have your egg unbroken.  No one in my extended family at Easter dinner had heard of that, outside my blood relatives.   It's in wikipedia.

Me, either!  I've never heard of this.

Now, the question is what do you win if yours is the unbroken egg?

No and yes.  I never knew there was a name for that, but I know exactly what you're talking about.  My father and uncle always had us do that around Easter.  There is a trick to "winning" that we never learned, because we always lost.

Oh, if anyone wants to try this, make sure the egg is hardboiled first.

Epper Epper...

Yes that is what it was called by Br. Juan Diego, hos family hailed from Lithuania. They would cry Epper Epper, and then try to break the other guy's egg.

I got one of the ceramic eggs out of the display cupboard... : )

When you first replied, I had just posted. At first I used an image that turned out to be a dynamic link, which doesn't play well with the Forum. You posted your quote while I was editing the post to use a static link. I can see the image now, and I think you should be able to, as well.

There is a trick to "winning" that we never learned, because we always lost.

Hold it very firmly and as close to the end as possible.

The prize, at least in Revolutionary War times, was the winner got both eggs.  He claimed that whatever they used to dye the eggs red, made them stronger.

As a Boomer there were no prizes nor did I award my children trophies for their participation, nor do I remember a discussion of the award system until well afterwards.

According to Wiki a British POW in the Revolution described the practice.  POW life was different than we would imagine these days.  Officers were expected not to try to escape, as a point of honor.  But there were also atrocities.  For an interesting story of an American POW back then, look up the youtube video "Adventures of Captain Robert Stobo"

 Eveing Diners

Flo, give the guys and I a Beer please and leave a stein outside for Ulrich.

Finally made it into the Attic today, what a mess! Seems the Raccoon did not like Keff Speaker box's, styrofoam coolers or packing foam! Plus it liked to move things around! When I opned the attic trap door all sort of stuff fell on the the layout and made a mess! Could not believe all the Christmass stuff up? Reason is my wife is trying to fill up the garage with Chrismass stuff!

Anyone need a Turckey Roasting Pan? Whistling Found 4 of them up there and that not counting the one in the kitchen she does not use.

Want a Snoopy and Woodstock Phone? Yep, found that as well. Wife says it does not work, I have yet to test it. I know they can be worth a little money and it looks in pretty good shape.

Main Goal was to find some photos of my wife parents. Have not found them yet. That will be another day.

 Later, Ken

Hey, Ken. Just cut a hole in the ends and use them for tunnels on the layout? Armour plated tunnels.

I agree the raccoons are a mess. I've had them in my pole barn and they tried to get into the house once. No thanks!

I came across this little guy during my walk today:

 Bittern-4 by Edmund, on Flickr

Pretty sure it is an American Bittern Green Heron! He was fishing by the shore of the pond.

 Bittern-5 by Edmund, on Flickr

He's about the size of a large Blue Jay but he really can stick his neck out!

 Bittern-2 by Edmund, on Flickr

I sort-of caught him in flight, too.

 Bittern by Edmund, on Flickr

When he perches he's a compact, little guy but stretched out like that he looks almost two feet long!

Always something interesting to see in nature Yes
