It's Easter week end.  The ETERR has their Easter Bunny trains going today, and last week end.  The event is sold out by Match !  Indifferent

Lots of kids, and parents.  At least they have nice weather, today, anyway.

Everything in here (on the site) was working great earlier this AM.  Now it appears that those that shouldn't be, are messing with things again, the way the pages are loading. Confused

Have a great week end every one!

Mike.

EDIT:  TOP, and slow pages, Saturday brunch on me!  Dinner

Afternoon folks,

I have been doing a bit more cleaning out of old crap around the house today.  Amazing the useless stuff I have saved over the years.  Some will get passed onto my son and his family for them to deal with... LOL  I found two paintings by an uncle of my late wife which are "family heirlooms" I guess.  I will see if my son will take them to the Reunion of that side of my late wife's family this summer if they go.  Frankly they are not that good and certainly nothing I would put up on my walls.

I also drove over to the farm store and bought more bird seed to feed the squirrels......Whistling

Ray .... Do you think it is possible you could chnge your mind in the future about having cats ? I remember after our prviuous cats died, we said no more of them. Got rid of all cats stuff. Had the carpets professioanlly cleaned. Replaced some furniture again .... No more cats, we said .... Guess what.... within about 2 years, we adopted a rescue cat from Cincinnati, OH. ... Then a short while later, it was a rescue cat from Paducah, KY ...... Next it was a rescue cat from Clarksville, TN.... Our current trio of cats has been very enjoyable.

Hi Garry.  I will not have any more pets for the moment....  Now If I link up with a lady who wants a lifetime commitment and SHE wants a cat or two or three or a doggie.  That would be a different story alltogether.  I will not tie myself down to having to take care of pets again at the moment.  I have other things on my agenda.....Whistling

I did not consider arthritis, of which I have enough.  I did an ice dive once.  It was brittle ice, only about an inch thick that breaks apart like ice machine ice.  So there was no risk of being trapped beneath the ice.  However the water trickles down the back of your neck and spine to fill your wet suit.

Simming in the broken ice, you feel like you are in a highball.  I never made a second ice dive and would strongly suggest wiping that one off your bucket list.

Went to my BMW Airheads motor cycle techday.  guys that like stuff no longer made as in this ford and Mg

An airhead motorcycle works like this.  Old guys, that like old stuff with machining skills and too much free time.

Hey.... How you all doing?  Just got back from the vacation thing yesterday.... Somewhat.

Ray  Sorry to hear about your cat.  Always a tough thing to go through.

Ken  Good job on the quit smoking battle.  There ain't no rules!  Whatever way works for you, is good for you.

My favorite part of the vacation was Oatman Arizona.  Wild donkeys roam the town like tame dogs.  These donkeys are descendants of work donkeys from the gold mines of the late 1800s.

These donkeys still remain a hundred years later.  They leave town at dusk everyday to burrow in the foothills.  They return late morning everyday to be fed by tourists.

That is not Judy in the photo.  You would know if it was Judy.

We also went to Lake Havasu Arizona,  to see the London Bridge.

We got back home on the red-eye flight at 2:30 in the morning Friday and slept till noon.  We are now an hour away from home at Stillwater Minnesota to finish up Judy's days off.

We just got done partying at the Mad Capper by the river.  Now we're back in the hotel room sucking down some more beersWhistling Wink

Thanks Dave... It has been.  We ran into a friend staying in our hotel in Laughlin which made our time even more fun down there.

He lives next door to Stillwater in Hudson Wisconsin.  We have joining rooms in Stillwater tonight.  We ran into a few other friends down by the river this afternoon.

It was 75 degrees todayYes   Any nice weekend day, the bikes and classic cars tear up this townBig Smile

Good Evening from Istanbul,

We visited Hagia Sophia today. It was built in 649 as an Orthodox church and is truly amazing both in size and splendor. It became a mosque after the conqest in 1450 and tne gold leaf mosaics were covered in plaster. Itis now a museum and several mosaics have been restored.

Time for bed even though it is only 9:30.. Iam very tired after spending12 hours on a plane llast night. We were very late leaving Johannesurg due to a thunderorm.

Good afternoon from the land of milk and honey. It is a beautiful day at 16c.

Got on the bike this morning and felt so good I just kept going and going and going. There were really good tunes goin on the radio and that usually really gets my motor runnin.Laugh The computer said I burned off 1573 calories and I was soaked through. Came into the office where my wife was, I was lookin about half past dead with a couple of dog towels wrapped around me to soak up the sweat and the wife says "can we go for a walk?"Indifferent  I showered and had a bowl of granola and a couple of monster "Florida" oranges and said, "Lets go!" We walked about 10km through the forest and it was perfect. I don't know what my sister is making for Easter dinner, but there better be a lot of it.Laugh

Ray, that is really cool about running part of your workout. I was trying to remember how long you have been at it since you threw down the gauntlet at yourself. I run a bit but most of the time find it very painful due to the arthritis. I will never ever turn down a challenge from some punk kid that thinks he is in shape.Laugh I follow them for the first km and blow by them on the way back after the clubhouse turn at the park entrance.Laugh

Garry the blue Hudson and train were painted that way for the Royal tour across Canada in 1939. After they came back across the country they headed into the U.S. and I don't know if they went on that train or switched I will have to look. The Hudson was repainted right after the tour. The blue one that I am getting from Rapido will remain blue and be in regular service on my RR.Laugh The tough part will be finding the right coaches to make my own Royal Train. Being the lazy sort I am hoping Rapido will also make the coach consist as well.

Image may contain: train and outdoor

TF, glad you had a good time away. Didn't the guy that bought London Bridge think he was buying Tower bridge at the time? Holy let down when that went up.Laugh

Ken, keep up the good work for better health. Chip away at the smoking, exercise, and diet. Obesity is actually worse for you than smoking. Think about that pound of butter in the fridge and imagine strapping 50 of those to your body. 50 pounds of fat that is killing you. Ray is a good role model. As long as you are going in the right direction don't worry about how long it takes.

The Conductor: The thing about trains... it doesn't matter where they're going. What matters is deciding to get on.

I think I'll go fire up the layout before we head to my sisters in a couple. But first some Tylenol.Laugh

Happy Easter, all the best to all.

Now that you write that, I think I remember reading that somewhere.  You're right - what a letdown when you find out you bought the wrong bridge.  What's that old line about, "Psst, hey buddy, I've got a bridge for sale."

The roof of this took me forever.  I should have paid more attention in high school geometry.  I got the windows online, but built the rest out of polystyrene sheets.  While this was my first "from scratch" building, I enjoyed it so much that building these has become my favorite part of the hobby.

Doing this also made me want to change from N Scale to HO.  I envy some of you who have talents developed over years.  I really am impressed with your layouts, and hope to learn quite a bit from your experience.

Your depot looks excellent, John Bow

If I didn't know any better I'd say it is the spitting image of the Huntsville, Ontario depot that HOn3Critter, Dave, is planning to build for his club layout?

Good Evening All,

A great day outside and I also spent some time putting down ballast in the yards. It's pretty fiddley stuff with all the turnouts in there so I'm just doing a little at a time. All the track works now save for the turntable which I may end up tearing out to fix.

York1 - the station looks great.

I love the progress you're all making health wise.

Time for dinner and then back to sifting little rocks onto the tracks. CUL, J.R.

Evenin' Folks!

BATMAN
Ray, that is really cool about running part of your workout. I was trying to remember how long you have been at it since you threw down the gauntlet at yourself.

Actually started walking agian mid February 2018.  The first few weeks I felt good about myself if I was able to hobble around the track about 4 times doing a lap every 4 minutes and 10 seconds....  Last friday my time on average for the first 7 laps of the 22 I now do (4 miles +) was just short of 3 minutes per lap.  I did the 7 laps in just over 20 minutes.  Just walking is no longer getting my heart rate up to the "peak" level on the fitbit.  I have had no aches or pains from the running, BTW.  Won't get my miles in tomorrow as I will be heading out with a couple other guys to judge scenery on a gents layout for the Scenery, AP Certificate in the NMRA Acheivement Program.  Will try to get some milage in after I get home around the block if possible.

Need to spend qiute a lot of time getting a newsletter out for the NMRA Division and  bunch of stiff done for the MLK Committee next week.  I will also be meeting with a contractor about some long overdue renovations here at my house.  I want to do over my bedroom and the hallway by the bedrooms.  Now that I have no cats, I can get more of that done without worrying about them them getting outside or being stressed.

Easter was fun today, great church service, until I then went to Canandaigua for the obligatory nonsence with my sister at our annual lunch out with the whole family at a crowded and noisy restaurant....  She is dead set against me starting to date again.....  Doesn't like or trust anyone that I might meet online.  She absolutely hates the lady I went to Key West to visit and thinks I am stupid to be even looking (she has never met her, BTW).  She is a pain... Period!  She doesn't want me to get "hurt" I guess.  I should be perfectly happy just sitting here at my house and living the same old, same old lonely life I have had for 30 years....  She drives me nuts!  Oh, and instead of walking and such I should do what she does....  Volunteer to push folks around to their appointments once a week at the local hospital....  She thinks getting 3 or 4 thousand steps in one day a week is much better excerize than the 17,000 I am now averaging a day....  Plus....  I hate hospitals! LOL

Hope you all have a great evening out there in cyberspace!

That Huntville, Ontario depot does look similar!

I actually used the Burlington Station in Grand Island, Nebraska, as the model.

The station is the site of the TriCity Model Railroad Association.  They have a layout in the old freight depot at the far end of the picture.  It is a beautifully restored station.

Ray, you mentioned that you walk at a field house.  Is that at a nearby college?  When the weather doesn't cooperate, I also walk at a college field house.  They have an elevated 200 meter track.  I try to go two miles each day.  I really like the outside trail better.  I get a little bored going around a track 16 times.  I don't think I could keep up with you, though.  You are doing well!  By the way, it's your life.  I know you don't need advice, but if you want to date someone, you're old enough to know what you want.

I'm afraid the layout won't get much attention for a while.  The weather is now good enough to start yard work and some outdoors home repairs.  I hate cutting the grass so much that I would be tempted to pave the yard and paint it green.

BrentSmileYes.... The best way I can answer this question is from recollection.  Keep in mind, some of my trip was a little blurry as I was having a really good time down there with Judy and my friends.

What sparked my interest to go to Lake Havasu and see this bridge was some guy named McCulloch bought the bridge over many shots of scotch and negotiation for approximately 2.5 million dollars.

He had a lot of interest in tourism in Lake Havasu Arizona for some reason.  He spent another 7 million to get the pieces of the 200 year old granite veneer, re-located and numbered well for reconstruction.

The old story of London bridges falling down when you were a little kid is true.  Apparently this bridge was sinking in an England river for many years.

The bridge was reconstructed with a heavy sub infrastructure.  The 200-year veneer of historic London Bridge was added as the outside shell and therefore creating the replica of London Bridge, built over Lake Havasu around 1968-70.

Happy Easter everyone    TF

Brent   What you asked could very well be true.  I wouldn't doubt it.

Thanks!  My sister, I think, is just scared I won't be there to help her out every time she needs somebody to take care of her cats, take her to and pick her up from the airport whenever she goes on one of her trips to the "very far", etc.  And, of course, she knows everything about everything!  Just ask her...  You don't need to, BTW, she will inform you of her expertise of everything without you even asking, LOL You may think she ticked me off more than a little bit today.  You would be right.

She is an expert on relationships having had two terrible marriages, and tens of "Boyfriends" over the years.....  She just can't figure out what on earth I would need to actually want to fall for some female when I could get.....  Ah......., I better not go there.  WhistlingSmile, Wink & Grin
