I wished I lived in Laurel Maryland as there is an estate auction going on there and one MRR lot is particularly attractive. Need to pick it up in person though.

Is there a link?  I had plans this weekend, but it is not too far from me

Ed you can have credit for the NKP, I didn't see your link

Henry

Try this.

Sometimes you get lucky at these auctions, I got my Brass NP 4-6-2 for $35.00 including shipping.

This is a classic Brent.  It reminds me of the Mr. Bill Show.

That Rusty F7 or whatever it is.  Looks like he's saying  "OH NO! OH NO!"  Laugh

I wish your kid luck at the hockey tournament in Calgary.

Ken, I look forward to your daily report as they often give me a chuckle. Happy B-Day to your wife. It is probably because you didn't mention her by name that it flew under the radar. I don't think I would put my wife's name out there either as she has a huge web presence as does my son. Best try and keep some security going.

If you Google the Deadpool icebox scenes and Deadpool set photos my kid is very prominent in them, however, I won't say who he is. Not a good idea.

Brent I wish I knew more about brass prices.  Edit see my post below It is all one lot and poorly displayed, considering there are a substantial numbe of brass locos.  Everything seems to have a starting bid at $90.

Not only do you have to be local to pick it up, they give you only a 2 hour window to pick it up!!  Super Angry  I would think that would substantially reduce who might bid on something.

Speaking of Super Angry

  1. My son bought a Kohls gift card from Amazon, for my wife's birthday.  Their delivery contractor delivered it to the wrong address.  That person called and Amazon told them to destroy the card.  They told my son to work it out with Kohls
  2. My wife got another present from Amazon, no gift card, not on her wish list.  She called Amazon.  She called and the rep put her through the hoops telling her for "security reasons"  they couldn't tell her who sent it.  We all know what Jeff Bezos sends.  Then they decided their system had a glitch and they couldn't reverse track the tracking number.

We shop the auctions all the time. Our big scores were a king size mattress new still in the unopened plastic $300.00, retail was $3700.00. A lazyboy loveseat power recliner, brand new still had the plastic on it $350.00, retail was $4000.00. A Bosch dishwasher brand new top of the line in the box $450.00, retail was about $1200.00.

We have two big auction houses near us and check them constantly online.

They had a huge pile of those mattresses all new in plastic. The first ones went for around $2000.00. We got the last one for the $300.00.

The wife keeps trying to get a high-end stove as they tend to have lots of them come through. They are upwards of $5000.00 and go in the $500.00 to $1500.00 range. She thinks she will get lucky at some point.

Brent  On further reflection, it is all 1 lot.

  • There are at least 3 Westside boxes, where you can't see a label
  • They will tell you where you can pick it up, only after you win
  • No mention of buyers premium

Either they are clueless or you will never see what you buy.

What's that John Bull set worth? Someone on here or another forum was looking for one. There is a lot of stuff there, an Ebay seller could make a few bucks if he got it for the right price. Like I said, sometimes you get really lucky.

That is strange, Any auction where I have bid on things, everything was at the auction house and I ran the name of the house looking for complaints before I bid.

Hello-ho! Yoohoo! Anybody here?

Well, another beautiful day! It feels nice to be able to open the windows and get some sparkling fresh air into the house! If it weren´t for the terrible noise those cranes make flying over our house on their way north!

I am wasting my afternoon by watching one of my favorite Jerry Lewis movies - Hook, Line and Sinker! What a great movie - and so dang real!

Have a good one!

Happy times!

Good Morning Ulrich,

Late getting in this Saturday as I bring the CFO and my youngest who is still home to breakfast at another more physically present diner.

39F and sunny today so i will endeavor to load more of the trailer so we can just add the cars on Monday.

Got the rest of the yard trackage in yesterday evening after I got back from Pa. 300+ miles each way plus sitting through an hour long Ukrainian Catholic service didn't help my knees any but I'm glad I went and paid my respects. As Kris would have wanted, his team is in Austin, Tx at the first race of the main series they do yet there were at least 100 people there at least half of whom weren't family.

A belated Happy B-Day Ken to your wife. Missed that in my absence from the diner the last couple of days. Hope the rest of you are doing well or at least improving.

     Cheers, J.R.

Good morning, everybody ... Our trees are full of ice this morning.

Ken .... My senior moments are worsening. ... I thought I did wish your wife a happy birthday. I just reviewed my recent posts, and I now see I failed to do that. ... Not sure what happened..... Anyhow..... Belated Happy B-Day to your wonderful wife.

Meanwhile, my good friend in northern Illinois has his 75th birthday today. I met Reggie in kindergarten after I moved to IL with my family from Tennessee. We have been friends ever since. As kids, I had Lionel trains and he had American FLyer trains.

I named my scrap yard (Reggie's Junk Yard) after him.

Good Afternoon,

Ken, sorry I missed your wife's birthday. Too much stuff going on here at least that is my excuse.

My friend in ICU is still hanging on. They are slowly trying to get him off the Ventilator. It is still touch and go.

Brent, I like hearing about your son's progress. Law and economics are 2 fields that interest me. I have an Honours Degree in Finance and Economics. In my work career I had to learn a lot about contract law as I looked after all our Dealer Contracts and Security including enforcement as required so I dealt with lawyers a lot in all the provinces. He will need to attend a law school and also be accepted to the bar in order to really capitalize on his education.

Well it is sunny today with little wind so it is actually quite pleasant outside. I have to make a grocery run later today but I don't mind as the store is at most a 5 minute drive from our house.

Nothing new on the RR front. I made up a train with the 0-8-0 a few weeks ago but it hasn't left the station. I just can't seem to get motivated.

 Afternoon Diners

Flo, get the gang and I a Beer please! I brought some day old Cake as well. Still taste pretty good. It is a Carrot Cake. Dinner

Hope I did not sound like a cry baby, but did seem odd not a single happy birthday for Sue. All so called the ball and chain.Whistling

Train Front Did get a little model railroading done.

Got the new to me Proto 2000 B&O SD 7 784 on the rails. When I got the engine one of the coupler boxs was broken. Finally got that fixed and try to give her a spin last night. Moved about 2 feet and stalled, light was still on but I had to crank her up 100% power to get her to move and then just barely. Yanked the shell and added some ATF to the motor bearings and the trucks last night. Replaced the coupler today (spring was missing) and doubled headed it with my orginal PK 2000 B&O SD 7 784 and they are hauling my 10 PRR Heavy Pullman just fine! Big Smile

Little bit of sad news. My F7 A B A CB&Q has gone belly up. Crying A & B uints are fine but the C unit will not move. First I will try a decoder reset and oil her up. If that does not do it I do have a replacment motor. Decoder seems fine, still has sound but it's dive soft wear could be bad? Whistling

 Trains are running great.

Good afternoon from the Pacific Rim. It is mostly sunny and 8c. YIPPEEEE! the kid is on his way.

He had lunch at the Ottawa airport at a burger place that is excellent. Drinking imported beer, that kid has too much money.Laugh

Thanks for taking an interest in the kid Charlie, I am sure proud of both my kids. He will be able to choose whatever Law school he wants to attend as his grades are so high. He sits on what I call "the star chamber"Laugh which is a group of professors and top students at the University. It is just really a think tank. He tells me all about it, quite interesting. He still has a real love of constitutional law even though he has pulled away from international affairs. We video chat two or three times a week and have some great conversations about how the countries of the world came into being, it is fascinating hearing about the constitutions of the different countries. Violent revolutions to countries like Canada that said hey let's make a country, and everyone said okay and that was it.Zzz We had to start playing hockey to get our release that way.Laugh

We were talking about Venezuela and the mess it is in and how history repeats itself over and over again. We have a good friend from Venezuela here to attend University, he is terrified to go home. His family is all there and it is really affecting him. We already told him he can stay with us if he runs out of money. He is an awesome kid.

My son became good friends with hockey great Pat Quinn when we would attend the Canuck games. Pat would sit with him and tell him how he worked his way through law school while playing in the NHL. He said having a law degree really helped him when he became a GM. The kid figured law and economics were both required to make it in the entertainment biz. The economics degree will help determine if it is a good time to invest a couple of hundred million in a movie or video game.Laugh

EA sports/entertainment is based in Vancouver and he went to high school with the owner's kid and still has a good connection there.

The kid has given me full access to his Email and Facebook accounts so I can help him manage his affairs. There are a lot of well-known names (surprised even me) in the movie biz he chats with on a regular basis and he is incredibly lucky to have such a positive relationship with these people. It is his to mess up, although I am not too worried about him doing that.

He blew me away two weeks ago, he told me how much he has in his retirement fund already, I had no idea. I just told him I started mine at 17, he is following my lead.Yes

Garry, I like hearing the story of you and Reggie. I have a good friend that I have known forever. I remember the first time someone ever knocked at our door and asked if I could come out to play. It was my friend Craig, we were 4 years old tops and have been good friends ever since.

I had to take a dog semen shipment into Vancouver airport early this morning and get it on a plane and have to go back to get the kid in 4 hours. I don't usually ever nap, but I may do so today.

All the best to all.

BATMAN
I think I need these.

Hi Brent,

I can just see myself falling over backwards with one of those contraptions strapped on. I'd never be able to get up!Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaugh

The idea isn't exactly new. I have a walking cane that my dad used when he was in the military. It has a small seat that unfolds. You put the cane between your legs with the seat open and just sit down. Quick and easy! He didn't need a cane to walk, but getting off your feet for a few minutes when you were standing all day long was great. I tried it once. I immediately fell over backwards!LaughLaughEmbarrassed It still resides in our front hall closet. One day I'll pawn it off on my son. He will be okay. He has better balance.LaughLaugh

Congratulations to your son on his continued success! He is a very accomplished young man. I'm pretty proud of my own son too. He has a great wife, a great career, and they own their home which is something that is quite an accomplishment for a couple under the age of 30 in southern Ontario. I see and hear about so many young people who are struggling and every time I am thankful that my son is not. I'm sure you know the feeling.

Hey everybody,

Still car, err truck less, I'm planning to get a trans from a junk yard as a "Band Aid" fix to get the truck back on the road till I can rebuild the current transmission that way I can take my time and not rush, haste makes waste!

Nothing in the way of trains to report, perhaps I'll get around to something one day soon.

Later.

I've had a few QSI decoders put themselves to "sleep", Ken. Try pressing F6 button twice. I think that was the way to wake them up. That stupid "sleep mode" has baffeled lots of QSI owners!

IF you need parts talk to me first. I could probably "part-out" another BLI B unit or two. Surprise

I hope everyone is doing well this weekend —

Anybody still like trains here in the Diner? How about a peek at Jack London Square...

(The cab control car needs to have the ditch-lights reprogrammed at 1:24! Only the left light is flashing. Or is the train making a left turn?)

Cheers, Ed

I have that same affliction, Mike! I hope there's no cure for it Big Smile

I found this Jack London video after I posted the one above. I like it better. Note the CZ cars at 2:10, I wonder if these are some of the cars that came to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad near me in Ohio? I can't get the names off them. My nephew is the mechanical whiz at the CVSR. Sometimes the manufacturers of sound DCC decoders visit there to record the MLW "Alcos".

Enjoy, Ed

Good Morning!

I am running late on this Sunday morning, so I don´t have enough time for my big Sunday breakfast! A cup of coffee will have to suffice!

Ed - thanks for sharing the two street running videos! You won´t find a similar scene in my country! I just try to picture one of our commuter trains going right throughn the middle of our little town, doing the 100mph the train normally does... Yes, I am talking about a commuter train, not a high speed train! Those have to observe a speed limit when passing through the town´s station. The limit is 115mph!

I am just glad that trains are much quiter over here. I live within earshot of the main line connecting Hamburg with the Ruhr region, Germany´s most densely populated region. We have way above 250 train movements each day, which would make life a living hell, if all those trains would sound their horns! Well  they would, if we still had grade crossings or street running, but we don´t.

It´s a balmy 50F right now, but the daytime high will be 55F. Nice!

Happy times!
