While I personally do not find Kevin's musical selections tasteful or satisfying, it's not my place to tell him his music is "bad" or "good", to each their own.

Garry, been using DDG for a while, and I like them.  Though sometimes Google finds things they don't.

I must admit when Steve first posted that noise, I was a little Dumbfounded and Confused! How could you not be with all that racket going on?

Then a stupid little voice inside of me said (but what if he really likes it though?)    Then a smart little voice inside of me said (Noooooo!)

I can't ever remember a time that song came on I did not immediately change the radio station. Now being even further tortured and subjected to seeing the video, it definitely reinforces that logic.

What's even more incredible. With all that annoying Bimbo-Jamboree going on.... I couldn't even enjoy the fact that there was a bunch of underdressed young women dancing around.... That's messed upLaugh

Thanks for the humor Steve. I enjoyed it more than that heart healthy bowl of cerealLaugh

Wow.  What passes for music these days.  A bunch of no talent screamers.  Last time I heard anything sounding like that stuff was when I heard a collision between a truckload of pigs and a truckload of tin cans.

Hmmmm.  Begining to sound like my dad.

Maxman .... I'm glad you said that.... If I want to listen to songs, I'll turn on the radio. ... I don't need to do that in a model railroad forum.

Good morning ....

I'll have coffee and an apple turnover, please. ....

Ed .... Thanks for posting the PRR menu. Also, I like the phto of Amtrak on a curve.

I have been disenchanted with Google. ... They track searches and then steer advertisers to our computer. The searches often have sponsored "hits" at the top of the list, and their searches are biased. .... So I have tried Duckduckgo and so far, I like it. Have any of you tried duckduckgo ?

Yesterady morning, I spent two hours in the dentist chair having more expensive dental work. ...

Also, I picked up the boat from the boat mechanic who winterized it.

After more non-moidel-railroad stuff, I worked on model trains last evening. One little project was to change the coupler mounts on a dummy F7B for closer, more realistic coupling. The F7B is an Intermountain shell which I mounted on on a dummy Athearn chassis a few months ago. The coupling distance did not look right, and now it is corrected.

So can you think of any songs that, by that definition, you would call "perfected"?

Here you go SteveO, the perfect "misfit punk" anthem...

Just look at that selection of bountiful, epicurian goodness! It saddens me that all you can get, even on the "Premium" Amtrak trains, is basically an MRE, or better known as K-Rations.

https://www.railwayage.com/passenger/intercity/want-airline-food-take-amtrak/

So many of the old railroad menus I look at feature Ry-Krisp. I always wondered why we can't get Ry-Krisp any more.

There is a group trying to rekindle the old Ry-Krisp cracker but they have been fighting legal battles.

Far as "perfected" songs I think of Billy Joel's Captain Jack, it's a disgusting song that's just miserable to listen to, but for what it is it's perfect. And I'm a really big Billy Joel fan, I just hate that song.

Now for something a bit better.

Bad News, well seems I was right on the money when it came to a new roof. I gussed $12000.00 and bid came in at $12028.00 All new gutters would added another $1250.00. I know I could get them to throw in the gutter work. I will get a few other bids but seems close to what the going rate is in this area.

Morning all, it is another beautiful sunny day today, The rains came in last night and I told everybody that I was going to have my first full day in the trainroom as Winter had arrived. I guess I will put it off another day and go enjoy the great outdoors as I will be longing for the Sun before too long.

Went to the Canucks/Washington game Monday night, the kids just couldn't get'er done against the mighty Russians, that Alex Ohvechkin is quite the talent. The Caps won the cup last year and it showed our very young team that they have a ways to go to be top of the heap.

TF, sorry to hear about your tooth. Ten years ago we had a nanny from Slovakia that developed a toothache and went to the Dentist, came home and said she had to have a tooth pulled. We asked her why and she said that's just what we do in Slovakia when you get a tooth issue. She was the prettiest young thing, all of twenty years old. The Dentist who is a good friend of ours phoned us and said she couldn't make her understand that in Canada you get a crown and don't lose your teeth. Long story short she got a crown and has had three more since. Iron curtain healthcare was what she had been used to. She still has her beautiful smile and is a wonderful human being.

Steven, I liked the ford commercial. I liked the old Bronco on the trailer. My friend that has all the V8- Vegas has a couple of those. I remember taking a road trip down to Nevada to pick up a fiberglass Bronco body for his, saw some amazing restored ones where we went.

Steven, if you have sticky brake issues on your Ford, there was/is a notice issued by Ford about the rubber part of brake lines deteriorating, causing the calipers to malfunction due to particles breaking off the lines and contaminating the calipers. Rubber brake lines should be replaced after fifteen years.

I use to rebuild the calipers and now you can't get the kits to do it and have to buy the whole caliper.

Ray, glad you avoided being nailed by the old guy. My only near death experience was at an intersection. I didn't get hit but came so close to being killed I still feel it in my gut when I think of it. The truck ran a red at high speed and I sensed something was not right and managed to save myself.

I use to sit in on accident investigations for the Feds and we would rule not only on fault and cause but also whether it was preventable or non-preventable by the other drivers.

On the kids flight home from Ottawa, he said lots of people were watching Deadpool 2 on the plane and he had people asking him if he was in the movie. First time that has ever happened to him. He had a seat next to the toilet and had a lot of traffic going by.Laugh

The wife and I have been thinking of moving, but instead of buying a house we are seriously thinking of renting in a few different spots around the world for a year here a year there. I would love to have extended stays in New Zealand, Australia, and some South Pacific islands. France and Italy are also on the list but less appealing to me. The Southern hemisphere makes me think I'm escaping the lunacy of the North.

I love listening to covers of songs and came across this one. For those that play, this is a little different than how Mark Knopfler plays it.

I am going for a long walk in the Sun before the monsoons hit.

All the best to all.

Brent

I do remember Alrich saying not too long ago the area around him was getting kind of bad. In the same sentence he said time to move.

I remember he, Ulrich, mentioned not having the funds to support a move. I wish we could set up a go-fund-me account to help them out. Fingers crossed that they're OK. (Is it really that difficult to remember how to spell his name, TF?)

Wow I did it again huhTongue Tied  My humble apology.

I just don't get it.... My whole life I've been a good speller. I went back and made corrections as a respect thing.

Well I got done with the dentist. I have 27 teeth now, soon to be 26 by the looks of it.

The good thing is they are in the back, it does not affect my smile anyBig Smile

ROBERT PETRICK

Yeah, I have about five or six on the payroll: cardiologist, urologist, ophthalmologist, dentist, in addition to the GP quack who keeps insisting that it's time for my second colonoscopy (no idea what kind of '-ologist' does that).

Proctologist. Or maybe gastroentorologist.

And "dentist" doesn't count. Not only does it not end in "-ologist," but you're supposed to start seeing those while you're young.

I think that when you have at least three regular -ologists, you're officially old. (In my case, cardiologist completes the trifecta.)

The dentist is easy and twice-a-year on schedule; based on sound advice from Granny, "Be true to your teeth and they'll never be false."

So look up, Steve. At least you're two or three years younger than Brad Pitt.

Driving around with my wife to various appointments and errands yesterday, the song "Oh, Mickey!" by Toni Basil came on the satellite radio's '80s channel. I said to my wife, "I think this is what I would call a perfected song. Not perfect -- it's not necessarily better than other songs -- but for what it is, it could not be improved. Every bit of it is exactly right."

To perhaps clarify what I mean, I offer in contrast Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill," which I would say is a very good song -- I'd probably rank it above "Oh Mickey!" -- but it's not by any means perfected. There are parts, particularly the bridge, where the song builds up the listener to expect something gloriously transcendent -- and then it just doesn't deliver.

So can you think of any songs that, by that definition, you would call "perfected"?

Well, I'm back, after taking yesterday off for my cardio tests. Stress test, echocardiogram, and 24-hour Holter monitor. That last one records your every heartbeat for an entire day. I'm still wearing it now -- I'm wired up like a Mob informant. I get to take it off in about half an hour, and I'll be glad to be rid of all this itchy tape, but I'm not looking forward to peeling it off my chest hair. Ouch. Crying

I think that when you have at least three regular -ologists, you're officially old. (In my case, cardiologist completes the trifecta.)

Anyway, let's have something heart-healthy for breakfast. How about some oatmeal with nuts and berries?

Dig in!

Got a test version of my LED randomizer working.  (Hopefully the video works -- I'm hosting it myself instead of uploading to youtube).

Edit --- Err .. helps if I link it yeah?

http://www.djph.net/media/TestLights.mp4

(If you can see it - it's dark on purpose - I way over-valued the resistor since I didn't have anything smaller on hand and having the lights on washes out the LEDs on camera).

It's still running in "test mode" -- approximately a 100 millisecond delay between choosing random numbers, and then when all 16 LEDs light up, waiting approximately 5 seconds before looping.

I'm in the process of making a 32-LED test array (4x8 LEDs) to allow testing the full program (I shorted something in the DIP sockets yesterday, so have to start over after work -- least I caught it before torching some chips).

Once I get that built, and a quickie vid shot, I'll post something bigger :)

Good morning Diners,  I'll have a coffee with you.

The wife and I were doing a little reflecting over coffee this morning, like we have for 24 years.  She's a better reflector than me.

I'm going to the dentist this morning to get my molar pulled, it's cracked and giving me pain. I was somewhat complaining about old age and getting my first tooth pulled. She said this is not your first tooth pulled. You wiggled your first tooth and pulled it yourself when you were a little boy. Your tooth is just a little stronger now, you need a little help pulling it. The only difference is, it won't grow back this time.

She sees a positive side to everything. God I love that woman!  She looked at me, smiled and said..... old age isn't just handed to you, it is a privilege,  it was earned.  Look at all the people that went before us. Be happy and thankful you're still here.

I need to think more positively like she does.... I'm trying.

Take careSmile       Track Fiddler

PS. I guess I didn't see Ulrich dropped by, while I was rubbing the sleep out of my eyes this morning. Welcome back Alrich. I'm glad you're okay. I am sorry your relocation did not work out for you.

Myself, and I'm sure many of us here, feel helpless in regards to your plight.

Please keep us informed occasionally. Our thoughts and prayers to you and Petra —

Tinplate Toddler
With great sadness we have to let go of our dream of relocating to your grand country

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
MOTHER OF EXILES. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
