Steven Otte
If you're going to let Wolverine sing, make him pre-record it in the studio so you can auto-tune him.

.

SteveO,

.

I don't know if that would be necessary. My first exposure to Hugh Jackman was 15-20 years ago. He was playing the role of Curly in a production of Rogers & Hammerstein's Oklahoma. This was long before he became Wolverine. He was very much undiscovered by Hollywood back then.

.

Let me tell you... that man can sing! His voice was amazing. His dancing was light and graceful. It was by far the best interpretation of any R&H musical I have been to.

.

I was also amazed at Tom Wopat from The Dukes of Hazzard when I saw him in the role of Frank Butler in Annie Get Your Gun. He is another actor with tremendous singing and dancing talent.

Good morning.... er... ah, Good afternoon diners!

I didn't make it in yesterday (if anyone noticed) but I had a good reason....  Plumb wore out after the days festivities.  For the 47th. year the MLK committee of Geneva, NY held it's March, Service, and Dinner in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Since I am the treasurer and the guy in charge of publicity I was a bit busy from 8:45am to 5pm when I arrived home. Since I no longer can stand that long and walk the mile and a half easily to do the march with it's several stops and program along the way (it was -2°F, BTW), I act as the person who takes care of odds and ends at whatever church the service is being held at.

The day went off without any problems except for having to "deal" with the 3 piece band that provides the accompaniment for the MLK Choir....  After the rousing anthem following the fantastic sermon/speach, the band and choir got so wound up they wouldn't stop.  The choir would stop and sit down only to have the band start playing again and everyone got up and started singing and clapping.  It was great except for that we have to keep to the schedule and were already about 20 minutes behind...  (The dinner is ready to serve at a scheduled time and they were waiting for us!)  They kept this up for 15 minutes.  Several of the pastors including the MLK President and the speaker told them to "cut it out".  They kept right on going.  Finally six ministers walked over and said in very loud voices, "Cut it out!!!"  Two of the guys in the band were students of mine......  That should tell you something!Whistling

If you want to see more about what I was doing yesterday, it was covered by Spectrum News and you can see their coverage Here: http://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/rochester/top-stories/2018/01/15/geneva-continues-47th-annual-tribute-for-dr--king-s-birthday

BTW, our work is intended to be Multicultural, non-sectarian, interfaith, and to celebrate "Community"!  I had lunch sitting across from the Pastor of St. Paul's Missionary Baptist Church who was the MC for the service and whose wife was a little 7th. grader my first year teaching in Geneva (and one of my favorite all time students, who is now a grandmother of a little 3 year year old kid), and sat next to a Bhuddist Monk who works at the college, and the Rector of St. Johns Chapel at the college.  Sat next to my pastor for most for the service (even got to hold hands with her during a prayer and one of the songs [be still my heart!].  Yes, she is single and beautiful as well!  (Oh, and the entire congregation was asked to hold hands for that.......).  Also this year, once again several police officers were marching with us, and the Chief of Police himself was directing traffic at the top of the hill near the church.  That did not go by unoticed....  I am fortunate to live in a great community.

OK, got to get back to getting the "day after the celebration" stuff done.  need to get some Art & Poetry info over to the Schools, clean some house, and maybe even go grocery shopping so I have food for supper...

Later!

Went on eBay and searched for an Athearn U50 DCC found three SP units each listed for 99 cent starting bid, came back a while later one is at 50 and the two others are at 20 and there's still over four days left... I'll keep an eye on them but not getting my hopes up...

I'm still working on your "package" Steven. There will be a couple of Athearn Blue-Box Amtrak P-42s in there for you to mess around with, plus a few other things, a couple of Walthers building kits and even a highly-sought after, rare,  Model Railroader book on building structures.

It takes me a while to get stuff together but I should have it in the mail by Friday.

Cheers, Ed

Evening all!

Hobby Front: Got another overhead crane kit in the mail. (Found I need three kits to assemble the width that I need for the car shop.) If I cut stuff right, I should have enough pieces to build a crane for my team track. (I currently have the crane that came in the old Walthers Team Track kit. I hope to use pieces from that crane and pieces from the Overhead Cranes to make something that gives more flexibility for unloading flats.

I am also expecting some turnouts on Friday that are the start of building a good sized rail yard. (28" W by 160" L. Two hollow-core closet doors from Mom & Dad's closet that wouldn't slide anymore. Still in good enough condition from benchwork.) I need that section in order to add a different turnout to one of the turntable leads to connect it to the yard (and also it is the switch lead for the yard.)

Not that I need more cars, but I have a bid in on a stock Athearn Northern Pacific drop end gondola. I have the one that I relettered but I decided that I wanted a stock unit. I set up a search and finally found one to bid on. Rare units as this is only the second unit I had seen. I later found a third but had already bid on this one.

Hi Gang,

I'll have an Eskimo Pie tonight Chloe, Stick out tongue  in honor of our Brothers in the south who are getting a taste of SNOW.

No real news from the LM&E as of late, I have been so busy after Christmas it has had to take a back seat for awhile.

I just wanted to acknowledge Ed.  (Pullman) for his generosity to some of our members who's budgets are a bit tight. That is a great service you have performed Ed.  Charity is next to Godliness. and I for one thank you for your service to them.

Just thinking about calling it a night. It is supposed to be up close to freezing tomorrow, so that will be a wonderful thing as we have had weeks of super sub temperatures. Last tuesday evening it warmed up quite a bit and then it started raining pretty heavy then the temp. took a nose dive again and all the doors on my truck froze solid and I haven't been able to get it thawed out in a week.

Good night Mrs.Calabash where ever you are and Brother Zero as well.

Johnboy out................for a spell.

Thanks for your kind words, Johnboy.

I've been blessed with a fairly prosperous and fulfilling life with relatively minor setbacks, so it gives me pleasure to be able to give a little something back to my friends and community from time-to-time.

In some cases it has been contagious, and always appreciated.

I have been gathering kits and structures for my layout for more than thirty years and at this stage of life there isn't too much more I need for the layout so I'm glad to be able to pass on some of the surplus.

Good morning from the East side of the Pacific, just above the forty-ninth. It is 8c, windy with a high overcast.

Ed, I have had a very easy slide through life. I have had setbacks just like most, however, they didn't upset me much. My philosophy on that is, everybody has events in their lives that they would rather not have had. Wasting time and energy dwelling on them is as productive as complaining about the weather.

I just have a high school education and I live a very comfortable life. My Dad worked for the Post Office and Mom taught music, Had a full stomach, clothes to wear and grew up in an average middle class house. The most important thing I had my whole life was unconditional love and support from friends and family.

I found making money an easy proposition, I would change jobs if I found one that paid more. I finally found one that paid well and let me work as much as I wanted to. My days were often 8hrs straight time followed by 8hrs double time usually loading airplanes. No TV, never drank until I was in my thirties. Just worked hard for a solid ten years and invested most of what I made.

I tend to give most things away that I no longer need and have found doing so has sometimes made a real difference to people I have helped out. It has made me better friends with some if I knew them and has given me some new friends if I didn't.

We had a rather high-end sewing machine in a really nice cabinet that belonged to my mother. I gave it to this wonderful immigrant family. I have never seen such appreciation displayed when they came to get it. The wife and her mother made custom wedding dresses in the country they were driven from and they are now off to the races just through the little bit of support they received by having a sewing machine given to them. We both won on that deal. Sometimes it doesn't take much to change peoples lives.

Well after a day in bed due to pain and suffering, I am back at it with a whole day in the train room.

All the best to all.

Afternoon diners, still subfreezing here in the deep south and it will only rise above freezing from 2pm till 5pm and it will remain freezing from then till tomorrow about 11am... tried to head into town a little while ago, ice is all over and LADOT is not performing any deicing in the rural areas and the urban areas are barely being maintained...

Ed, I got your PM I probably won't get it till Monday if not later due to USPSs speedy (or lack thereof) service in my neck of the woods...

Not much you can do, except keep knocking down the icicles that hangover your entrances, so nobody gets hurt.  Any chipping and trying to remove the mess will only damage your roof.  Let it go away.  Forget about all stockings and such filled with salt, or cloride, and the "easy fixes" that people come up with.

Up here in the North, it just means we have to insulate and close off all air leaks into the attic.

I guess in Kentucky, it will all melt much quicker than it does up here in WI.

Strange  the stockings full of ice melt have started working and created a channel to let the melt water off. This is the first time I have had ice dams back up. We had a 5 inch snow then a slight 2 day  thaw then a "light dusting" of 7 more inches of snow + temps in the single digits.

Good for you, Smile.  What some people up here do is to be diligent about keeping the snow off the bottom 3' of the roof, if you can reach it, and have access to it all, such as a ranch style.

2" of powdery snow kept schools closed today even thought the snow was over by 10 am.

Stumbled on this youtube drone footage of National Railway Equipment.   Looks like they have enough spare parts for the next 100 years.

The last 3 snow events I've had in SE. WI., since it's been cold, I've used the leaf blower.  Light and powder.  About 5" total, the last couple days.  The only shoveling is at the end of the drive, from the street stuff.

BUT, I'am about 30 mi. inland from the big lake.

Good (late) evening all.

Zoe - A big mug of hot cocoa, spiked with coffee please. (Half cocoa, half coffee.) This cold weather has me not breathing to well.

Weather - Cold.... Cold...... Cold......

Health - Yup... Asthma issues today. I think it's just from the bitter temps, as that will affect it.

Ken - Must be going around... My boss has the flu as well. (Although, she is a much better retail person than Nancy!)

W*^k - Slow today. Did decent yestrerday, but today "sucked rail spikes" to borrow from Ken. Yesterday I had one sale, but it was a decent one. Today? Zip, nada, nuthin'.

Hope all are well, and all enjoy the night!

 Eveing Diners

Flo get the gang a Beer and give Rick, Stenen a RBF and leave a Stein outside for Ulrich.

Work Reading Front. Only person that came in wanted something to sleep on for under $50.00. Her reason is she has Bed Bugs and she will have to throw it a way anyway?

Train Front. Got the new turnout wired but it has a problem. Sapswitch cannot get the rails blades fully in to the thrown postion. I have a few ideas.

Tracton Wheels Installion. Yes the NYC Hudson came with Traction Wheels! Big Smile I thought it had a nut driver with the engine when I bought it. If it did, I removed it and no idea where I put it if it did have the needed driver. Whistling Guess I am going to K-10 Model Trains Thursday or Friday. Smile

Today it was about -15 C here in Southern Ontario with enough wind chill to make some people really unhappy. I did the garbage in my T shirt. Took my time too.Stick out tongueSmile, Wink & GrinLaughLaugh

It's the weather! The only two things you can do about it are to accept it calmly or move somewhere else. OH, sorry - there is a third thing - whine about it! Seems to be a popular choice!

Don't get me wrong, spring can't get here soon enough for me. Until then I choose to grin and bear it ('bare it' might apply too when I'm outside in my shirt sleeves)!

Cheers!! Hot toddies all round and let's go for a dip in the hot tub.

Sigh... had to clean up another thread... just so the message has the opportunity to spread far and wide, here's what I posted in that thread after doing so...

"I don't want to see anyone, in any thread, calling out or belittling other Forum members for how they choose to pursue this hobby. It may be long in the misty past, but we have all been new hobbyists at one time. We all had pie-in-the-sky plans for our dream layouts that changed a dozen times and maybe never came to pass at all. This hobby, and this Forum, needs to be welcoming to young people and new hobbyists of all ages. I won't have anyone on this Forum making anyone else feel like they're not a real modeler because they don't model the same way someone else does. Armchair modelers are still modelers.

"If you think what someone else has posted doesn't belong on this Forum, report it to me with the Report Abuse button, and I'll make the call. Anyone who takes it upon themselves to publicly police other users on this Forum will instead find themselves on the wrong end of the moderating stick.

We had a big snowstorm, over a foot, just about 2 weeks ago.  It was all gone within a week.  Then, we had a smaller storm yesterday, only 3 inches or so, and it looks like that will be gone in a week, too.

Fine with me.  Our DPW knows how to plow the streets and keep them open.  Since I'm retired, I wait until the snow stops and I'm plowed out rather than venturing out in the storm.  Then I'm fine.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
