Recently opened a PB account. Was going to start using it but won't now. Some people can screw up any and all things good.

That is a really nice turntable. I want to make one like it.

Send me a PM and I'll send you (and anyone else who wants one) a PDF on how I built it

Well, Photobucket decided to permanently lock me out from embedding photos on forums like this one unless I'm willing to pay them $100 annually.  Of course, I don't post enough photos to pay anywhere close to that (in 12 years, I've only used 9% of my upload limit!!), so I think I'll just delete my account and transfer everything to a different website.  They've become a bloated mess anyway.  Who would you all recommend?

Darth

I dumped the bucket a long time ago for a majority of photos. I use by blog to post then link to forums.

My Wife, bless her heart, has spared me this grief----she dropped my electronic camera into a salt water river while working the dogs. Amazing how much damage two AAA batteries will do to diodes and things---I no longer worry about posting photos to anything, anywhere.   herrinchoker

New try:

Nice boxcar indeed.Embarrassed

Thanks again Henry.

The only problem is that those photos can be seen by anyone that have a Imgur account. But I can do with it.

I use trainboard.com  No problems, no glitches, EASY to use, very fast.

I tried PB.  I could Never get it to work.  Someone on this forum suggested trainboard.com  NO Problems!  Love it!

My answer was incomplete.  Right click on the pic.  Select copy link location.  The link is copied to the Windows clipboard.  I'm not sure there is a program that you can click on to see what that is but trust that it is there.

When you get to this forum and click on the picture icon, the thing that is to the right of the chain link and contains a mountain, a window opens.  You cursor should already be on the Source window.  Hit Control button and V at the same time and the link should appear in that box.

Don't know about an Ipad.  I used to be much more computer savey.  I had an Apple 2 and build several computers.  Just never got into tablets.  Love my laptop though.

Thank you Henry BUT how do you that on an iPad? I could do that easily with Photobucket despite those annoying adds. I just don't see how to do this with Imgur.

Not being able to use Photobucket anymore to share photos on these forums, I will try here with Imgur I just joined a few minutes ago.

Edit: Didn't work.

New try,

https://imgur.com/gallery/fBdDl

Édit: I can accses the image but it didn't appear in the post.

What am I doing wrong?

It's not my rule but the link has to end in a picture format extension like .jpg

Right click on your picture and a menu should open.  Pick Copy Image Location. And Wala the link would be https://i.imgur.com/HFZsKQF.jpg

Edit for those that don't understand copy and paste in windows.  The above copy command puts the address for the photo in the windows "clipboard"  A short term memory place.  When you click the photo icon in above where you are writing your post (it looks like a mountain with a sun or moon) you need to copy the link in the Source box that will open.  Hitting the control button and the V button at the same time does the copying for you.

PB has gotten so slow this is really no loss. I've spent the better part of an hour trying to just sign in so I can upload some pictures to WPF. I have some photos on their site that I lost on my PC that I need to recover but after that they will be history.

I opened an account with railimages.com and used them last week to post a photo. I'm still trying to work through some issues with their site as well but this might be my primary means of posting photos in the future.

Finally deleted all my photos and PB will shut my page down soon.

I gave up You Tube for posting about three years ago. Google started making it difficult to navigate.

I iwll check out the site mentioned.

G Payne and Bear's photos just got covered with the "100% speedometer" AGAIN at the "Show Me Something" thread!!??

I got the notice this morning (Fri 6-30), and my links are blocked (see below). I have been getting frustrated with uncreasing PB popups over the past couple weeks. Seems to be about 6 or 8 getting in the way.

No one has mentioned UTube as a photo host. Any feedback on that, or are they going the way of PB?

In another model railroad forum, you do not need a photo hosting web site such as Photo Bucket and others. That forum allows members to upload into the forum directly from their computers.

I have to agree with bigdaddy and nittanylion.  Imgur is the way to go.  It's free, user-friendly and I don't have any problems.

I will probably delete my account. I barely used it. Two pages with 0% storage used. All the photos I have are stored on a USB drive (memory stick) on the computer.

I was hoping to share railroad pictures with the community but I haven't really started.

I couldn’t figure out how to turn off Google Photo Backup (Sync) so that is a No Go for me. Every picture in your Picture directory is auto-uploaded to Google Photo.

I did not find Google user friendly at all.

Facebook requires a membership and as soon as you start following friends and family, you find out that their political views are astonishing.

Amazon, easy to use but I don't see that the share link is compatible with the MR Forum rules, i.e., it does not end in .jpg or other picture format extension.  Amazon already knows enough about me anyway.

Just go with imgur. It was specifically designed for hosting images to be used on third party sites.

Hmmmm.... Here is a photo from the bucket, from my free account - it seems to work.

I use the insert image button and use the direct image link. Lets see if the image comes through when I submit the post.

I am not crazy about the bucket as the pop ups make the site almost unusable - but then again posting to the forum always takes time regardless of issues with PB...

That is a really nice turntable. I want to make one like it. With Photobucket I can not save any pictures like this one because the files are always corrupt when I try to view them. Instead I have to Print Screen and then paste into Photoshop.

Wow, so it's actually $400 per year to embed photos?

You would be far beter off just getting your own dot com and have it on a cheap server, then you can do whatever you want with your pictures.

Scroll all the way down and look for a link to Host Metro. I use them for some websites I manage. http://www.hostmetro.com/

The pictures are safe (backup mode) but my raw pictures out of my camera are 12mb and they will eat up space on the hosting servers fast.  I always drop the resolution down to about 175K per picture for posting.

I ended up making a Post on my blog for posting pictures on the Forum and backdated the post date so it will always be at the end of my posts.

It was just a quick idea.  I’ve posted many pictures from my blog over the years without any problems.  Also it’s a lot easier and faster than Photo Bucket and Google Photo.

Byron,

That´s what I did, but PB won´t permit that either, unless you pay $400 a year! I doubt that they will generate a lot of revenue out of this scam.

I have deleted my PB account today, knowing that all prevous posts with my pictures will be useless now.

I don't use PB, but if linked images are still permitted by PB, it may be possible to use the MR Forum "Insert Image" function instead of embedding images. (That's the little icon that looks like a mountain range with a rising moon.)

Failing that, I have had good luck with Trainboard's Railimages.

Unfortunately, Facebook and Google images (among others) may not show up here if the viewer is not logged-in to those services.

That is why I made a facebook page. I can post there for free and link to it easily. It works for me.

I just created a separate Facebook page for my railroad photos last week so I wouldn't have to deal with the ads on Photobucket. Looks like that was good timing.

I’ve also had a lot of problems with Photo Bucket for 6 or 7 months.  I’m in the process of moving (Copying) all my pictures and videos to Google Photo and it’s (photo Bucket) fighting me doing the move.

I find Google Photo somewhat difficult to use, I guess it’s another learning curve.

I don’t intend to re-post my pictures from Google Photo, as they crash from Photo Bucket I’ll delete them.  The Photo Bucket “Please Update Your Account to Enable 3rd Party Hosting” will remind everyone of the great Photo Bucket policies.

The above is from Google photo, it will remain.

May I second Paul´s request for a recommendation?

I am in the process of looking for another free image hosting site, which is foolproof.
