In a somewhat related subject, one poster's comment stood out for me:

"......I have been moving all my pic's to my hard drive."................

On-line storage provides many benefits, but always remember that should that hosting service disappear (corporate downsizing, bankruptcy, etc.), anything stored there could also suddenly evaporate.  External hard drives are now very affordable insurance.  I have a couple of duplicates, one of which is stored at a friend's house as an additional precaution.  I don't want to lose 50 years of pictures.  Of course the files are not available on line, so those I wish to have accessible on the net are copied to an appropriate location.

I already have an Amazon Prime account so I am using Prime Photos.

So far, so good.

I tried to find out the storage limit on IMGBB and struck out.  The link posted says 16 MB max, is that per upload or max storage?

From a Google search. I just signed up.

I have been with PB for many years but it really went downhill.

Nice interior detailing/lighting.

I just started using railimages.com as an alternative to PB. There was a bit of a learning curve to navigating my way around but it is turning out to be a much better experience and without the long delays that went with PB. I posted my first image from railimages.com on the latest WPF.

The above pic' is hosted by imgur.com which I now have an account with. Seems to be the easiest so I'll probably give it a shot

It would appear to be Bear friendly!!

As of 3 AM on July 1, I have not received any notice from PB but, as others have pointed out— it's probably "in-the-mail". I'm taking a "wait-and-see" attitude and keeping my photos there until the dust settles. If they continue to enforce this new policy, THEN I'll pull the plug.

Same here. I can no longer embed images, but not a single word from PB.

Mine came in Spam two days ago......I have been moving all My pic's to My hard drive. Have been trying out a few other Photo host's.

but if I'm no longer allowed to do this for something comparable to the current still-manageable price, I will disappear from here. Answering questions or demonstrating something is, at least for me, too difficult without the use of photos.

Trying a link from Flickr. I have over 33,000 photos on Flickr, it's going to take me a while to sort those out!

All of my photos get automatically uploaded to Flickr as soon as I download them from my camera or scanner. Now all I have to do is create an MR-MAG album and copy the photos I want to post in modeling threads... piece of cake. Bang Head

FYI if anyone wants to compare sites.

I see the issue now...I haven't been "chosen" yet either. If this is how it rolls, this policy is going to ruin old threads in forums across the web... Kind of a bummer..Think of all the WPFs/how tos, etc... that will be littered with these messages....

Guy

Yes A friend of mine belongs to several Non Train Forums and its the same all accross the web

Here's a photo from Secord Air Services, offered just because I still can...

I simply clicked on the line of data beginning with "img", then "pasted" it here.

I've not yet received a notice from photobucket, but if I'm no longer allowed to do this for something comparable to the current still-manageable price, I will disappear from here.

I had a free account at photobucket for several years and it served me well.  Then, for no apparent reason, my bandwidth allowance began to get used-up within the first two weeks of every month (it renews every month on the anniversary of your joining photobucket).
After badgering photobucket for more info, they supplied me with a list of times and sites which used-up my bandwidth...surprisingly, over 100,000 viewings in less than two weeks.  Most were, expectedly, for Big Blue and the MR site, but the next biggest users of bandwidth (and much greater in total than the two forums) were "bots" from various search sites.

Photobucket suggested a paid subscription (Plus20), which offers unlimited bandwidth and much greater storage capacity, and for the last 3 or 4 (or maybe 4 or 5) years, I've been paying roughly $30.00 annually for the privilege of sharing my photos with others.

According to photobucket, I've used 8.2% of my storage capacity, with 5,543 photos stored...this is likely due to the fact that my older 4MP camera takes photos that don't have a big file size, and when I use my newer 10MP camera, I usually re-size the photos before putting them in photobucket.

I wonder if they have some sort of an algorithm programmed into the system? Almost 100% of my photos were embedded to this and the Tyco forum, and I do a couple dozen a year on average (which builds up over 12 years), so I suppose I'd be a prime early target for the updated policy.

I use PB, and I subscribed to the ad free thing, for about $14 a year. I'll post a picture: I see it, but do you? I have not received any emails, or notices from PB. Mike

I see the picture Mike, but the $14 Ad free will not stop the image post blocking. They have thousands of customers, and are rolling the notice out to a limited number every day. I did not see it until friday, others had it a few days before that. Your notice will show up soon.

So I guess if we close our Photobucket accounts all our pictures will disappear from our previous posts. Do I have that right?

I'm also guessing that the only way to restore those photos to the threads would be to go back through the picture files on my computer, find the same photo, copy it to another photo hosting site, and then re-post the photo in the original thread. Correct?

That's a bummer!

To me, this is a breach of business ethics of the highest order!

Dave

Yes to all of the above, Dave. PB is just chasing the almighty buck; not getting enough income from from all those ads, they are sticking it to their customers (soon to be departed) as well.

I will be changing to something else soon, just have to figure out which one. Then propritize which photos to upload first.

I've been using TrainBoard/RailImages.com for years and have never had an issue with posting/linking pictures to the forum.  It's free but it is limited to 50MB of online photo storage.

Testing from Flickr...

EDIT:

Not quite right...

Attempt 2

EDIT 2:

Hmmm... Close....

3rd times the charm????

EDIT 3:

Ok, it shows, but also shows it's size?

Better than nothing I guess.

At least it works for free...

Let's try one more, just for fun.....

Edit 4:

Nope... Nada on this one....

Edit 5:

And it also erased the one above... Hmm... Ok, let's see what happens when I delete the bottom pic..

EDIT 6: Nope... Once more...

 EDIT again:

And now both show... OK. At least it works.

EDIT (I lost count.....):

Ok, I just learned something here... You cannot edit a post with a flickr photio without re-doing the pic....

Good to know...

Pic again....

I use ImGur, just because the instructions Steven Otte gave in the "how to post a photo" made it seem the most simple.

.

It is simple enough for me. If they start wanting money, I will just open an account somewhere else.

Just testing imgur which I've only used once.  I presume the "link" to copy and paste in my thread is the "BBCodes (Forums)" option.  Let's see.

EDIT: That cross-hatching isn't in the original image, so I'll see what the "Share Link" does when copied & pasted.

http://imgur.com/dSM0cKg

EDIT: That doesn't do what I want.  I'll try "Embed in HTML".  (Obviously I don't understand any of this.)

<blockquote class="imgur-embed-pub" lang="en" data-id="dSM0cKg"><a href="//imgur.com/dSM0cKg">View post on imgur.com</a></blockquote><script async src="//s.imgur.com/min/embed.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

EDIT: I'm confused.  I can get a screwy image, a link, or jibberish.  Help??

EDIT: Will try another image with the BBCode/Forums type copy/paste:

EDIT: I don't see a problem with this image.

P.S. - I put imgur site on my Windows 10 start screen and it takes about 1.8 seconds to display my (2 photo) album. Maybe that fast because things were in the cache and it had just been up.  I restarted the PC and then called it up and it took about 6 seconds.  Pretty good.  And no ads or pop-ups that I see at this point.
