This is a test with ImgBB since Photobucket does not permit me to use their services any longer.

Thank you

I agree that Photobucket has it's share of glitches and down-time.

I just got the same notification. All I did was log-on again and it was gone...?

Ja Bear just posted some photos in "Show Me Something" and the same notification was there but when I clicked on it the photo, it did appear in PB.

Could this just be another one of PB's glitches?

**edit**

I see PB updated it's terms of service as of 6/28/17

Photobucket.com Terms of Use

Last revised June 28, 2017

Types of Accounts, Pricing and Limits

      • Visiting : There is no cost to visit the Site or to register as a Member.
      • Free account : Each individual Member gets one free account that provides 2 GB of free storage or space available for your original photo files, or videos under 10min. The free account does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting. If a free account Member exceeds their Content Limit, their account will be immediately suspended and they will need to become a “Paying Member” (defined below) in order to continue accessing their account. You can upgrade to a Plus account at any time.
      • Ad-free Account : The Ad-free Account offers Members the ability to use the Site without seeing any third party banner advertisements when logged into your Ad-free Account (note, viewers of your images within Photobucket will see ads unless they, too, have Plus accounts and you will continue to see Photobucket offers and announcements). This account level is available for $2.49 / month, payable by the Member on a monthly recurring basis.
      • Plus Account : The Plus Account offers several paid options that may give the Paying Member more storage, bandwidth, 3rd party image hosting, image linking and/or other services as outlined below. Once and during such period of time in which you subscribe to and pay for a Plus Account, we will consider you a "Paying Member." Please note that all Plus Account subscriptions are billed annually at the commencement of the service. Photobucket may also offer a monthly billing option for its Plus Accounts (see terms and restrictions, below).
      •
      • Available Plus Account Plans : Photobucket offers the following Plus Account Plans:

o Plus 50 Plan: 52 GB of Storage for $59.99 / Year. The Plus 50 Plan does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting.

o Plus 100 Plan: 102 GB of Storage for $99.99 / Year. The Plus 100 Plan allows for unlimited image linking but does not allow 3rd party image hosting.

o Plus 500 Plan: 500 GB of Storage and unlimited bandwidth for $399.99 / Year. The Plus 500 Plan allows for unlimited image linking and unlimited 3rd party image hosting.

Good Luck, Ed

No, it's no glitch.  I just got an email from them (filtered to junk - how appropriate) stating that I would no longer be allowed to embed photos unless I payed them an extra fee.  I can still upload photos and link to them, but no more embedding.

I have not received that email yet. Not in my spam, either. I WAS using the $30/yr plan
(Plus 20, IIRC) and I was fairly satisfied with that. No, I will not bite for the more than double fee.

I use Flickr for much of my photo archiving. Linking to a Flickr photo is a little more involved but can be done.

Bye-bye Photobucket!

Wow, so it's actually $400 per year to embed photos? What the dang, Photobucket! Their userbase is going to drop fast with that. I did a quick Google search of recent results for Photobucket, and it seems that this is the last straw for members of forums everywhere. Looks like quite a few of us here are going to have to find a new host.

I'll have to check out Flickr. I may not be a software engineer, but if I can modify textures and shaders in Minecraft, I think I can handle a slight complication in photo sharing.Smile

It seems that PB is still playing funny with allowing "3rd party linking".

When I re-visited Bear's last post in "Show Me Something" I got the PB notice you show above. Fifteen minutes later, Bear's first photo appeared, then I just checked now and BOTH photos are linked properly...

I posted a photo there about two hours ago and it looks fine.

Bear also posted a photo in Jeffrey's Diner that took about a half-hour to appear...

Googling Photobucket problems brings up threads from many other forums where the members are having the same issues we are.

Bottom line is that it would seem PB has resorted to good old-fashioned extortion! I probably have over two-thousand photo links on various forums. If I don't pay-up the visitors will get to see the cute little "Photo Not Available" notice.

I sure hope they think this thing through!

(btw; the above is a PB link...)

I must be missing something.

Just uploaded this photo no problem. Yeah, PB is a little slow but not an issue for me. Been free for some years.

I just ignore the upgrade option.

I recently got locked out of my Photobucket account because I run a form of Adblocker, and only got access when I disabled it for Photobucket.

Being a Bear though, I just ignore all the ads, so those companies will not get any business from me!!

It would appear that this is a new gimmick from Photobucket. I agree Ed, I would like to think that they think this through!!!

EDIT. You may be able to upload, Rich, but all I can see, even if I click on the link is that infernal speedometer!!!

Cheers, the annoyed Bear.Angry

Ok, got it. Picture went away fairly quickly when I went back to look.

Time to close my account. I was using six percent.

Edit

It should be closed in 48 hours. Good riddance PB.

I'm going to post a picture to see if PB is working for me:

Seems to be working for me. I have not had a request to upgrade my PB account unless it went to spam. I'll check there.

I posted a picture and it showed up. Went back a little later and You can see what is there now.

"Please update your account" showed up like the others.

I went through the delete process and it will take 48 hours.

I never received an email about upgrading.

PB is like Facebook. A.I. Artificial intelligence.

We shall see if maybe a human intervenes.

I noticed PB does not like Add Blocker, one of my Firefox Add Ons.

That might be it but I will stick with Add Blocker.I know some news sites don't like Add Blocker and will not let me read an article.

I also have a Flash Blocker.

G Paine and Bear's photos just got covered with the "100% speedometer" AGAIN at the "Show Me Something" thread!!??

"Come, Watson! The Game's Afoot."

I'm not making any changes to my PB account just yet. Photobucket may have left a gaggle of Bornean orangutans in charge of the servers in Denver over the Holiday weekend...Hmm

So far— my account has not been molested.

We shall see,

Ed

Test from gallery on a Military Modeling Forum I am a member of. Successful links to intended images. Problem the opened  image page will show thumbnails across top which may not be mine.

Loaded using "insert Image" button.  Clicking on square will open image

Loaded from Gallery by copy/paste of Thumbnail Link on Gallery, Clicking Thumbnail will open image.

Well, I’ve got the official email from Photobucket, part of which, in small letters, says this, Our Terms of Service does not allow 3rd party hosting with your current account level.

I see no one has answered Darths original question, and while I’d also appreciate some feedback, my hour of reading reviews would suggest that Flickr will suit me.

My photos aren’t lost as I have a back up, it’s just that now, and I’m not the only contributor; a lot of the illustrated threads here will now be worthless. What a shame.

It would appear that Photobucket have no idea of “Grandfather Clauses” that would have preserved the previous 3rd party hosting which was OK, until they moved the goalposts!!!

Cheers, the very Annoyed Bear.Angry

I use Flickr for much of my photo archiving. Linking to a Flickr photo is a little more involved but can be done.

I also use Dropbox; Amazon Prime Photo; Google Photos (formerly Picasa); and Photoshop Adobe Cloud and my own site at Wordpress.com.

Out of all those I thought Flickr served the best purpose for Darth— but I hesitate to say THIS is the one for you, or THAT one is no good! I merely offered a suggestion. YMMV

Regards,

I wish that the title to this thread referenced Photobucket so that more people would see and read it. I just found this thread through a forum search.

I saw Ulrich's post in the Diner this morning and initially thought he was wrong, but then I researched the issue and found it to be true.

Yesterday, I tried to embed a photo in a PM to a fellow member, and I could not do it. I just figured that it was the occasional Photobucket glitch.

I use an extremely low amount of storage on Photobucket, so I was surprised to see my account apparently "suspended". That said, I have received no notification from Photobucket, not when I sign in, no email, no nothing.

There certainly are alternatives, and you are right to make a suggestion, there’s not one fit for everyone.

I assume that the forum is still not willing to host 3rd party images.

It would be great if the forum would rethink this, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

My opinion:

Flikr.com  gives you a monsterously long link if you are posting in this forum. The highlighted text is the part of the link that you have to use with the photo icon.

Imgur.com  This is a little easier to deal with. Navigate to the pic you want to share and right click on it.  copy image location gives you a link that ends in a

.jpg which you need to get a pic to appear in this forum.  https://i.imgur.com/9Vh97sr.jpg I posted the links, not the pictures so you can see what needs to go in the dialog box for the photo icon.

Some forums I belong to (non MR) have a paper clip icon and you can attach a photo.  Some of those resize the picture so all pics appear the same size.  One of my forums allows any size pic, which then appears as a massive picture and screws up the text formating for every post that follows.

Unlike Photobucket, I've never seen frequent delays or down time with either site, nor do pop up ads appear in either site.

After I deleted my account I received an email to upgrade. No problem. I don't need the account anyway. I don't need the attention.
