Happy Easter Diners,

last mountain & eastern hogger

I hope none of your eggs were cracked.  Oops - Sign

Not unless your breakfast was eggs, bacon and cinnamon rolls.

YGW- I like the process on that garage. Specifically the three car garage.

We'll go to grandma's house for Easter dinner with ham. To bad it can't be rabbit stew maybe one I'll eat rabbit to see how they taste.

What got started by Rabbit stew as yesterday walking the dogs. I saw a pair desert bunnies playing around in a small circle. You could see a dirt cloud around them.

Edit: Top of page, I'll pay of everybody's meals and drinks.

angelob: Thanks for your TOP offer; and since I’m still pretty satisfied from an excellent 3 hr. lunch begun with a glass of cranberry/black cherry with ginger ale “sangria”, then ham, baked veggies, broccoli and parsley sauce with mashed potatoes – apple pie and butter pecan ice cream (did I mention the rolls and after dinner chocolates?) followed by coffee – I’ll just have another small coffee to let that settle a bit.
Folks, since Ευλογημένος = Happy = Blessed (check it out in Google Translate) I wish you all a Happy Easter – in much the same spirit a Ulrich has!

YGW:
Der - is that a bridge or a turntable?
Yes.  That is, my understanding, which stands to be corrected, is that the track on (in?) a turntable is carried on a bridge. Anyone with actual knowledge of this please enlighten…

Mbinsewi:
Now, to be clear, I am NOT promoting, or acting as a salesman for photobucket, but I ended up doing the $14 a year basic membership, and it makes a HUGE difference in the way the site works.
….interesting, Mike, could you please PM me about the ways the site improved for you? Hope the brunch was every bit as good as your olfactory sensors indicated!

JaBear: I forgot to ask, were you affected by Cyclone Cook? I hope you and yours were safe and dry.

Layout Front, not much progress as my plans went sideways when I realized that I had a loaf of bread to bake – and then a new BBQ to put together in between a number of services over the last few days. So, I’m going off now to get a largish piece of the BBQ box to cut down for a platform on which to draw the outline of the “Tourist Castle Feature”. I need to have that outline ready because the next major thing to do is decide definitively where the castle will go and how the N3n line will interact / pass through it.  I’ve the final (in terms of elevation) piece of foam cut and need to draw the track alignment on it so I can cut the sub-roadbed strip in it necessary to complete the grade. You y’all can’t see what’s in my head so that last paragraph is perhaps obscure. I’ll take some pics when I’ve got something helpful to show.

Tea and some crackers with the stilton cheese which was part of my Easter present has been suggested, so, first the shed for the box card, then stilton. Sounds like a plan.

 Afternoon Diners

Flo, Ed, Tom, Jan and I will have a Beer and some Easter Eggs please.

Easter Bunny Slipped me a Micky Well, more like the wife made me a away to big of Breakfest. 3 egg omelet, waffle, hash browns, fried ham and 2 sausage links. On a work day I have 1 waffle, then a breakfest burrito at 10:45 at work. Spent most of the day napping.

herrinchoker
YESS!!!!--there is liquid showing where the metal is crimped to the cardboard side. A paper towel judiciously applied to the barely showing pink liquid--sucked up enough to wipe about 3 1/2 feet of track, very thinly.

Jan First let me say that is a OLD CAN! Second I think you are appliying way to much ATF. You don't coat the rails with ATF. My short line longest route is around 60 feet, total trakage with yard and team track is around 90 feet. I get a paper towel damp with ATF. Just touch left side of a rail, move a foot then the right side. Moved 30 feet and repeated. Each siding got one treatment of ATF.. If you had a current can of ATF, using the cap as a cup I don't think I would have used more than a 3rd of a cap.

 Later, Ken

Ken,

I was able to turn the paper towel slightly pink so flooding not a problem. Today, Today, was going to go to the shop to grab about .02cc of ATF, wife wanted to take the dogs to the shore for a swim, and to take pictures. I let her take the camera---digital,electronic,zoom, etc. AND what do I hear-----oops----I dropped the camera in the water--but I got it out quick, do you think I hurt it???

Lets see---all electronic, batteries in place, submerged in salt water, not water proof, I cannot state here what my response was, it was similar to that used when dealing with hippies in the 60s as a beat cop. Alka=selzer comes to mind.

When I got back to the house I went to the mill for the ATF, which is what I should have done in the first place.

So far the F7 I am using seems to be running more smoothly, and the track seems to be clean--time will tell. I will keep you posted on the progess.

Evening all

Happy Easter to in and all.

Started the day early and went to enjoy services. Packed house. Around a thousand folks in attendance. Great service.

Our home is the hub for family gatherings. Had over twenty family and future family here. Lots of food, lots of laughter, Easter egg hunt, lots of fun. Great beautiful day

DER - OH I thought it was a bridge over a river. Not for a turn table..

Angel - why do you like the 3 car part ? I like the hobby room best !

Johnboy - I remembered the reason for the season and it wasn't about bunnies. Hope your reason for the season was great.

Mike - how is the photo bucket better ?

Garry - LOL that is a good one !

Tom - Ouch ! Mine wasn't that bad but I lost five sheets because he was off his game. That's about $300 wasted.

Henry - how cool is that ! How did you get to see it ?

FRRYKid - you like history too ?! What is your favorite history ? I like early American and the WW2 era

ROR - that is impressive too. Two hours that is amazing.

Dave - Thanks. Nice shed. Very nice looking! I went for ease of maintenance. Problem with real board &batten is that the bottom of the wood rots. I grew up with a real barn with it. I am getting up in years and my carpentry days are nearing an end. I do not have the desire to be yanking boards off in the future. One and done for me. The sheathing trim etc is synthetic material.

Ed, Tom - that is true. Progress is still progress. Thanks for the reminder.

Herrinchoker - I have loss of hearing from being in construction. Work can be dangerous to your health. I take there is no cure ? How do you cope ?

Ken - hmmmm I cannot reply to this because in my misspent youth I didn't need a king size bed... At any rate I am glad you made some $

Ulrich - how is Petra doing ? Did you get to see your son ?

One of the blessings today is that I got to spend with my dad. He is in the dumps a bit because his leg is not healing fast . I am just glad he is still with us after that horrible accident earlier this year.

Again happy Easter to all

YGW: My understanding is that a measly $300 is a tiny drop in the bucket in comparison with what that mistake cost that Museum. So be grateful that it wasn't worse.

Evenin' Folks!

I have had quite a great couple of days since I have been in here.  Saturday was opening day out at the R&GV RR museum.  This year we ran Bunny Trains on Saturday, complete with the "Easter Bunny" in residence up in the upper yard.  I was in my usual place as Car Host on the Erie Caboose.  However the order of the train was different with the 80 Tonner (#64) in the back of the train pushing rather on the other end.  The Erie Caboose was right next to the Loco rather than being in the middle of the train and with the loco where it was the horns were facing right into the Erie caboose.  Even I could hear them loud and clear!  I think they also cleaned and repaired them over the winter.....Whistling  Got to use the line (when the tweens and other kids jumped and covered their ears when the horn sounded the start of the trip), "You know, you've got to be playing your iTunes awful doggone loud not to hear a 5 chime!"

It was a fun day and a great opening.  Had 558 paid riders and 28 cab passes.  Absolute max we can do in a day is 700 riders, so it was excellent.  We got some great comments on our Facbook Page from guests!  I was busy explaining to one family why we have the rules we do, what training is required before we can work on train (even named the rulebook we use), and was telling them that it is FRA rules that we all have to go down the steps getting off the caboose facing in because it is a ladder.  The older gent with the family was looking at me, shaking his head, and rolling his eyes most of the time.  He finally took my arm and with a huge grin told me he had spent his entire career working for the railroad and he wanted me to know that every thing I had told his family was right on the mark!  Made my day....

This morning was a spectacular moving Easter Service at church and I got to sit next to the two prettiest young ladies I have ever seen.  My two granddaughters!  Now, I know I am partial to them, but they are turning into simply beautiful young ladies!  The oldest is looking more and more like her Grandmother Howard all the time.  That moved me almost to tears as Saturday would have been my 51st. Wedding Aniversary.   She died almost 30 years ago and I still miss her terribly......

Anyway this afternoon was dinner out with my sister, two sister in laws, and my son, his wife and the granddaughters at a "pricey" restaurant in Clifton Springs.  Food was great, but the service was very slow.  I think they were short on help in the kitchen...  They were also packed.  Between my buying my son's family dinner and the fancy pricey candy I bought on Friday, I am a couple hundred $ short on cash for the rest of the month.

Oh, I mowed the front lawn on Friday (earliest ever) and it needs mowing again today....  My neighbor across the side street was out mowing before I was.  I saw him later in the day at Lowes and shook his hand.  Thanked him for mowing his lawn.  Told him I absolutely hate to be the first in the neighborhood to start doing that stuff.......

It got up to 90 degrees in spots today.  It will barely make 50 on Tuesday, so today I took advantage of the warm, sunny day and did 2 hours on my bicycle.  It felt good, but I'm tired.  Best of all, the knee was no problem and I hope to put some more miles on tomorrow.  At the end of the day the wife is going on vacation, so I get 2 weeks to work on that rock face.

Evening Diners,

Angel - why do you like the 3 car part ? I like the hobby room best !

Because I never saw a three car garage before. I see a lot of two car garages or one car garages turned into another spare room.

I returned from my grandma's house. In the last moments of the day she wanted the only two grandchild to search for eggs. I only 1 but I was helped on finding 3.

To Der5997, and YGW, and all, about my Photobucket post, much quicker loading of your bucket, click on Library right after logging in, and in a second or two, it's there.  NO ads or pop-ups

Sometimes the Upload process still gets stuck at 90%, but not nearly as much as before.

And, for posting pics, go to the "sticky note" that Steve Ott wrote about posting photos, scroll down, and look at our forum friend, Gmpullman's (Ed) method.  It works great.  I used to post pics by using the Img. link in photobucket, and everything after the pic was highlighted as a link back to photobucket.  With Ed's method, that doesn't happen.

Just my experience, maybe it will be different with others.  I use the latest version of FireFox.

Good Morning!

The day started uite nice - bright and sunny. Our regular morning visitors showed up, but no Easter bunny. Now it is overcast and we can expect it to ra*n any minute.

It´s a holiday here, so all shops are closed - family time, providing one has a family to speak of.

yougottawanta
Ulrich - how is Petra doing ? Did you get to see your son ?

Petra is doing just fine - each day is a step forward. I can hardly wait to get some decent food again. This dietary stuff is really an insult to my taste buds.

My son called on Friday, just to tell how busy he was, is and will be. We have not seen him since before Christmas last year. He lives "only" about 100 miles away from us, but it could well be somewhere behind the moon, looking at how many times we see him. His GF is suffering from multiple allergies, which includes us, so we can´t just go there and see them. I sure wish he would dump her and find a nice and healthy girl to marry and have children with. Of course, it is not up to me to decide, so we have to grin and bear the situation. I am not happy about it and I know for sure that the day will come he´ll be regretting having wasted his "best years". He´ll be turning 30 coming Sunday and we won´t see him then, either.

If you sense a little sadness in my words, you are right.

No idea how I will spend the day. There is a short HD list waiting to be worked down, but that´s something I don´t look forward to!

Have a good day!

Good morning..

At the moment I am pondering one of the mysteries of the MR forum. Some members post and there is no reply button connected to their post. So I can't reply directly.

mbinsewi .... You are one such member. There is no reply button on your post. Not to worry; I can reply using the reply button in one of the other Diners' posts ....... Regarding Photobucket, I found the pop-ups disappear if you refressh the page you are looking at.

I hope everyone had a good Easter. We went to Louisville for Easter dinner with the Cincinnati family who drove from the other direction to meet us. Our drive is about 200 miles one way. We had rain storms as we drove home.

Ulrich ... Sorry to hear your son does not visit you more often. He should do so especially with Petra's and your health issues.

Everybody: ... have a great Monday.

Brunhilda tells me that today's lunch special is Egg Salad, and when I asked "on what kind of bread" she just looked at me funny. So anyway...

Uh, Brunhilda, I don't think that's how "egg salad" works...

And while you're at it, Brunhilda, I'd like an omelet, plain, and a chicken salad sandwich on wheat toast, no mayonnaise, no butter, no lettuce. And a cup of coffee. Oh, and hold the chicken, bring me the toast, and give me a check for the chicken salad sandwich along with the omelet and the cup of coffee.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Yes, that's right.  I'm not built for scaling rock faces.  I'm building a staging yard with a scenic cover.

There are 4 tracks behind the rock face, beneath the assortment of foam "roof" sections and buildings.  The rock face is made of Bragdon Foam castings.  They need to be painted and then the scenery above will be blended in to them.

Garry, and Robert, don't know what's up with the reply button.  When the forum changed ( wasn't too long ago) to the current program they use now, I had trouble, like Robert has, with the post going way past the side of the page, and things not fitting in the box, but for me, using latest FireFox, I've noticed things have straighted out.  I think a lot of people had problems right after the switch.

And Garry, I seen your picture in trackside photos, May issue, excellent job on the mill.  I always have liked your shots of the CB&Q trains, and your backdrop work.

And for YGW, for me it seems worth it, no more hassles and much quicker to use.  I've held back uploading photos to PB, because I dreaded loggin on to it, and hoping it would work.  Maybe it's their overall plan, get users that have a lot of content on their site, and don't want to move everything somewhere else, so frustrated with the constant delays, slowness and never ending pop-ups, that they (me included) pay the yearly thing.  I've tried different browsers, and it didn't help.  Everybody has their own experience with PB, and their own "work-around" methods.  The yearly thing was mine.

Mbinsewi:

Sometimes the Upload process still gets stuck at 90%, but not nearly as much as before.
Thanks for the photobucket info – on the 90% thing, I’ve found that often it (the uploaded image) is there in full, and clicking on it’s thumbnail will bring up the large version and the handy links on the RHS. I use the second down of those, “Direct” or something like that, click that and copy (if it hasn’t automatically) to Paste in WORD. Once my entire post is ready in WORD, I copy it and paste it in the Diner Reply field. Scrolling down to the image urls, I highlight and cut them , click on the “Insert Image” icon Paste into the popup field, and hit enter. Voila! The image is in the Reply. Works for me. If that’s what Ed does, more or less, sorry for the repetition, but I’m too lazy to chase down that sticky. BTW, I don’t log in to either Photobucket or this Forum, I’ve dragged and dropped their urls from the FireFox address bar down to line beneath that which starts with “Most Visited” on the LHS. Then, to come here, for instance, I just click the “Jeffreys Trackside Diner” icon, and the door swings open.Dinner

Garry:
Not to worry; I can reply using the reply button in one of the other Diners' posts
I always do that Garry since a Reply never goes anywhere else but the bottom of the Page, (or Top of new Page!) on the refresh tip for Photobucket, I’ll give that a try, thanks.Yes

SNSR Robert:
Some posts are simply too wide for the screen and the text gets cut off without reaching the right-hand margin.
My photos used to cause that hereBlack Eye until I started saving them in “Web Large” format in MS Office Picture Manager, the down and dirty photo editor I use most. 640x480 pixelsis the result and they fit in here just dandy.

Steve: Let Brunhilda know we’ve a surplus of hard boiled eggs. My wife made a dozen, coloured them up with food colour, and took them in a basket to one of the “Dos-with-eats” at church over the weekend. The folks didn’t know what to do with them. Seems they’ve never cracked, shelled and eaten a hard boiled egg on their own before. So, we have been slowly working our way through them and guess what’s for lunch @ Chez DER today! There are also threats of egg/ mashed potato salad. That’s only really good if made with Heinz Salad Cream – and we don’t have any! What's more it's too cold right now for that kind of thing - but duty must be done because "we canna abide waste!"Clown

MisterBeasley: That’s a sharp looking rock face. I think on this layout I’m going to try colouring my castings before applying them (I use much the same techniques as you it seems ) because I use white glue for the application and if that gets on an unstained casting the colour won’t take on the “glue contaminated” places. We shall see., especially as whatever I use for filling between the castings tends to stain differently as well….

Layout Front – I did get the card and laid out the foundation shapes for the wall and tower components of that castle feature. I had forgotten how large it really is – 23” long x 11” wide – quite the footprint. So maybe I’ll have to do some editing! As I said, pics will in due course make more sense if this gibberish. Hard boiled eggs beckon. TTFN

Steven ... Thanks for the "egg salad".

Mike in SE WI ... Thanks for commenting on my photo in May Trackside Photos.

I wonder also about posts when I look at them on the IPhone . The writing on the right side is cut off as well as not having a reply button. I suspect some Diners type in Word and copy & paste  into the forum. I don't know, however.

The other glitch is spell check won't work when typing into the post box.

Goods Evening!

Steven - thanks for the egg salad, or is it eggs-on-salad? Does not look like something on our current menue, hard-boiled eggs are still off the list.

No hard-boiled eggs for us this Easter season!

I have been playing with GIMP, the el-cheapo, freebie version of Photoshop. Remember the picture of the bridge mini-module of my Japanese N scale layout?

Just add the wires and a sky backdrop and it looks very much different.

This is fun!

This morning I made the shift to early morning rides. I was out a little before 6:00am and figured out I have become a bit of a pansy as I have got older. There was I time when I layer up for a morning ride and head out when it was in the 30s. This morning I was appropriately dressed, but with the temperature at 58 it was almost too cold for me. Better than the alternative, though. The afternoon temperatures are now in the mid-90s.

Brandy Alexander Pie for everyone

I have not seen the no reply button problem. I belong to another forum that permits people to upload several MB photos and then the formatting of the forum is blown away and you need four monitors side by side to see the pic

YGW I asked Howard if he had open houses.  He does not, too much stealing believe it or not.  But he said if you are in the area give him a call.   I introduced myself at a Timonium show and got an invite.

Good evening all.

Zoe - A nice slice of apple pie please. Oh, Of course with some ice cream. Thanks.

Let me see if I can catch up...

Ken - Glad you gat a decent sale!

YGW - LG is doing much better right now service wise than Samsung... We are refusing to sell any Samsung laundry products right now... Only have ever had (in my time anyways) one issue with an LG product, and it was quickly handled. Samsung however.... We don't normally steer people away from a brand, but this one we are.

Ulrich - Glad Petra is getting better.

Weather - Up and down temp wise. Rain over the weekend, sunny today.

W**k - We were eliminated from the contest by Goshen. Otherwise doing good sales wise.

Trains - Still working on some projects, but making progress on them.

Hope all are well, and all have a good night!

 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed, Tom and I will have a Beer please.

Work Front Well I am glad I had a good book to read, David Baldacci novel called The Last Mile. Total engrossed by it and the 9 hours flew by! Good thing with me having only 1 customer in 9 hours. Sigh That sure not going to pay any bills, while he bought it was a whole $210.00.

I always have liked your shots of the CB&Q trains

Mike You sure it was Garrys CB&Q's? Smile, Wink & Grin I all so run CB&Q's but they are The Mighty CB&Q's F7A's! Laugh Yea, it was Garrys, I was just kidding.

 Later, Ken
