Being an ex-anesthesiologist I got special consideration.  I even volunteered to sign a photo release which they didn't think was necessary.  That was before the Joan Rivers debacle.

I am really tempted to post a picture of my open heart surgery

They took pictures?!? I guess that's not unusual. I should go back to my back surgeon to see if she has any photos of my spinal fusion. I'd be really curious to see what I look like inside.Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaughLaugh

In for a penny in for a pound. Delete if you may but it is a public health post.

Actually it has nothing to do with butter, but congential heat disease,  bicuspid aortic valve like Robin Williams Arnie Schwartznager and me. That fish mouth thing just below the pickups coming in from 2 o'clock is the valve, which should have 3 leaflets instead of two.

Watching a beating heart is amazing.

Watching them stop the heart from beating and restarting it more so.  Watching them cool the patient down, stopping it and the bypass machine [very rarely done] and then restarting it is unbelievable.

Nevertheless open heart surgery is not something to aspire to.  Everything in moderation

You may have heard of a "Butterburger" before

Never heard of it.  Like Pork Rinds.  My first patient as an intern was a diabetic.  He asked me if he could eat pork rinds.  Me:  "What are they?" PATIENT "Fried pork skin"    Me, silently to myself, "You've gotta be expletive deleted me?"  I have since tried pork rinds at a genuine SC barbecue place....meh.  Even if they were good for you I wouldn't eat them.

I am really tempted to post a picture of my open heart surgery but I expect you would delete it.

Hi, Bob

Welcome

I'm fairly new here myself! I think seating is first-come (I hope). So far I haven't been told to move! Maybe folks were just being courteous?

Hope you enjoy your time here...

 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed will have a Crown Royal and I will have a Beer please. No Flo, I will skip The Death Buger but I will make this Custard Last Stand!

Rick Far as the current computer, it is from around 2004 or 2008? More than likely 2008. With the computer I bulit with Windows 98 I knew how to turn off programs running in the background. XP Home I don't have a clue? It does have Word on it and I know that will drag down the speed. It has a Pentium 4 with 3.89 MHZ and I have maxed out the Ram at 2 Gigs.

Off line, the only real problem is how long it takes to boot up. Sometimes it takes a good 10 mintues before I can get Firefox to open. On line, sites like Photo Bucket, Walmart, Lowes and so forth the wheel spins around and around and around like a NASCAR race.

Rob I know about New Egg and have been told by co-workers it is a good places to buy. Just don't like to buy on line. I am still worried about getting my ID stolen.

Lion I don't know a thing about Widows 10. So I have no clue to which would be better for me. Ed sent me a Note Book that has Windows 10 on it, but the screen is so little I cannot see it well. I do know Ram is King and I am being left in the dust.

Thanks for all of the answers Diners.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, just a refill for my dark roast coffee right now....  Thanks!

Right now here in the Finger Lakes Regions of NYS it is 42°F and cloudy according to the Weather Channel.  They also are showing a banner saying we are under a High wind warning until 10PM yesterday.....  Yep!  Their site has been doing strange things of late.  I certainly can't explain the bright sunshine out there either.

Steven, just looking at that burger gave me chestpains.......  Back when I was 20. I might have ordered a couple of them and fries as well.  Glad I didn't so I can still be around to see a photo of it today.

I'm busy doing odds and ends today to clear a path to finish up some of the stuff that had last week as a deadline.  Put in a call to one of our members over in Auburn about the parking for our combined MNRA Meet next week and sit here waiting to hear back from him.  The editor of the region newsleter is getting down to the wire for an article from me for the newsletter and I am still waiting on the gent who is researching information for it.  Have to get more infpramtion out to my membership about the Meet as well.  That should have gone out a few days ago.

According to the site, I have been hanging around here about 12 years......

Did get down to the layout rooms earlier and continued to install the framework for lighting over the gorge and town scene.  I may just give up on being productive on the deadlines and just disappear down celler for the rest of the day....

Catch you all later....

I don't know. Nobody goes to Solly's for the fries. That's kind of like asking someone who just saw "Hamilton" on Broadway about the popcorn.

Let's see . . . eight-hundred-dollar seats and some clod spills popcorn all over the place . . . not as fancy as I thought.

Just realized too I have been a member here for 14 years

This makes 11 for me...geee I didn;t realize it was that long either.

Lemme see in that time I started with getting out my old N scale stuff after seeing and going to a trains aution in town, nothing but old rusted stuff.

Then I got into HO which I always wanted, and opted in for the "new fangled" DCC control. Now thta looks like IT may be surpassed.

Then I built a layout in all the space I could afford in a trailer home, a 3.5' x 5.1' mini layout that I mangaged to pack a lot into.

Now everyhting is in boxes and awaiting my next move, which I don' tknow what it will be yet.

I am in constant continuous pain in my lumbar to varying degrees. I opted to STOP aquatherapy, it felt great in the water, but once I was out on the dry land adn hte gravity took completely over, I was/am in agony. I have now reached a point i am in agony all the time, so tomorrow I go in PJ pants {no metal} fora an MRI to see what the neurosurgeon can do. THe decision by the pain center DR. TO NOT give me my usual epidarul injections is killing me. At elast teh injections gave me some modicrom of relief, but now, I suffer greatly. When I get up in the morning i can barely walk until I get the morphine in me. Then at least I can ambulate, but slowly so as to NOT jar anything. Steps are pure torture. Most liekly we will begin FUSING my spine, but it won't be a Nuclear Fusion!Bow Whistling

I called the nephew of my neighbor who knows whcih trees I'm talking aobut and is coming over tomorrow afternoon to talk about cost for removing/trimming/shaping the tree out front and the three "front" trees in the back. The "back" trees in back may stay permenantly, I don't know. Depends on $$$ he wants to trim/remove them as to what we do, but on the front tree its buckling up the sidewalk, and at least one big limb is hanging over the house and itrs tangled in the electric wires. SO it at least neerds trimming . we will see tomoorow.

That's about all that is news from my area of hte great state of Nueva Yorke.

Prayers for those in need. I need to find out which box has the praayer candles in it, still haven't found those yet.

Good of morning Diners,

Flo, I'll have an extra large coffee with lots of cream, please.

Steven Otte

You may have heard of a "Butterburger" before, but if you've never been to Solly's Grille in Milwaukee, you've never had a real Butterburger. As in, a burger with a HUGE SLAB of butter on top. Get it with fried onions on top and you're in heaven (or you will be soon, if you have a weak heart). Dieters need not apply.

Steven:  Yikes!  Nothing says double bypass special like "butter" and "burger" in the same sentence!  Actually, I bet they are good, but the cholesterol rush from that?!  Wow!  I always thought that just the bun had a little spread of butter on it, but seeing this, boy was I mistaken.

Thank you for the kind offer, but I think ill stick with In-n-Out.  BTW how are Solly's fries?

1000th issue nostalgia:  Just thinking of the advertisers over the years in MR.  I remember when PFM always had the back cover, and they'd have these really close up photos of the detail on their brass locomotives from United and Tenshodo.  And, does anyone else remember the 2 page spreads from AHC (America's Hobby Center), which featured the "deals" of the day?  It was kind of like the Trainworld ads nowadays.

Hello to everyone, and I hope everyone is OK, safe, and warm.

Less is more,...more or less!

Computer Nerds I am sick of my current computer. I am thinking of getting this one. Take a look please.

LIONS never buy computers from retail outlets. LION ALWAYS buys custom made computers from Cybertron. Used to buy Systemax from Systemax, later Tiger Direct, but they stopped maiking their own.

I bougt all (4) of my servers from Cybertron, and I have never looked back to any other company. You can find severl home and or small business workstations well within your budget. There is a button there to customize a computer. ALWAYS CUSTOMIZE, that forces them to build you a computer rather than take one off of the shelf.

Do you want Windows 10 Home or do you need Windows 10 Professional. You should be able to get away with the Home system unless you want to attach it to a Domain. Not likely, but a requirement on any 'puter I buy.

Try to get an SSD instead of an HDD. (Solid State Drive vs a Hard Disk Drive.) Much faster and far more reliable. You can also get a combo that puts the OS and the Apps on the SSD and your files aon the HDD.

Always put in as much memory as you can afford.

And remember, the lower priced machines, no matter where you look are LAST YEARS or older technology.  You add two years to your computer's life buy buying the latest mother board and processors.

If you still want a Dell, buy it directly from Dell, and you can customize it same as on the Cybertron site.

How considerate of you, Steven Smile, Wink & Grin  I guess eating it would bring instant death to both Petra and me!

Good Afternoon!

I am not having a good day today and will be off to see my doc in a few moments. My back hurts like mad and I need something stronger than my household remedies for that.

Hello Folks and Fellow Diners!

Thanks for the Beer and Beer Ken AND Steven! and a frozen custard, too! Ouch my aching waistline. In the Cleveland area we had Euclid Beach Park an old-time amusement park on the shores of Lake Erie. They were famous for their Humphrey popcorn and their frozen custard. Others have tried to imitate it but none have come close. I remember it well even though the park closed in 1969!

Lots of wind in NE Ohio, too. A Postal Letter carrier stopped their van at a mailbox near here at the very moment a tree came crashing through the roof of the cab! Talk about bad timing! The driver is OK, thankfully. You wouldn't believe it to see the van!

Glad you're enjoying those Burlington F's, Ken! Nice to see them earning their keep.

I didn't know that about the low-flying Orioles, Dave. We are pretty rural here. It is amazing what human interference has done to the bird population. Wind mill farms; shiny, reflective skyscrapers; polluted air. C'est la vie...

Glad you heard from Brent. I miss his Statler & Waldorf photo of the day.

Glad, too, that you're trying to make the best of your situation, Ulrich. That Tabletop Tramway video was fun. Made me thirsty for a Guinness for some reason? A minor improvement would be to have an attractive lady changing the scenery backgrounds as they used to do in the vaudeville shows! Whistling

UP Jim, Yes! Steve Miller! I could remember the lyrics but drew a blank as to the artist. Thanks... By tomorrow I'll have forgotten, but it was fun while it lasted.

YGW, Busy is good, yes? Good luck and don't burn out!

ROR, that's a neat story about the visitor. Makes you feel good about the hobby when a youngster is awe-struck like that.

Well, that about wraps it up. I have been finishing up some pesky wiring tasks that should have been done years ago (Making the turnout frogs live) but I'm almost wrapped up. Then I'll get back to my postal annex building.

Thoughts and prayers for a safe and enjoyable day!

I'm really enjoying issue 1,000! Thanks MR Staff!

Good evening all.

Wow, is it WINDY out there!

Zoe - Chocolate frozen custard with peanut butter sauce, whipped cream, chopped peanuts, and a ice water please. Thanks.

Steve - Thabks for the frozen custard!

CudaKen - If it is just browsing online, photos, that sort of thing, both of the options you pointed too will work. (But skip the Kaspersky garbage!) I also sent you a PM though.

Howmus - Batavia? My store owner has a store there. Sounds like that derailment could have been much worse, and much louder! Just think.... It could have scattered parts to {pointing around} "here, here, here, there, over there, here, there, and way, wwwaaaaaayyyyyyyy over there." Whistling

Weather - Wow is it windy! We have had trees, limbs, and other things blown all over. Steady wind 35~ MPH, with gusts over 60! One gust recorded in at over 70! Had zilch for power most of the afternoon, and all evening till 10. The wind has started to calm down but it is still gusting over 30. Temperatutre yesterday was 56, this morning we hit 64, now? 40 and dropping fast. Tomorrow it is supposed to only be around 35, with snow starting back up... This is still not helping out the asthma any....

Speaking of weather - Thoughts out to those affected by more severe stuff. (I have heard many are getting tornadoes this week.)

W**k - Remodel is in full swing, and is getting on my nerves! DM was in yesterday, and he is not happy we are as far behind on it as we are. Why are we behind? The store owner is not allowing enough hours (outside of customer hours) to do the work. Most projects take two (or more) people, yet he is only scheduling two people a day, with times of one person there alone. Other problem? The owner and the DM can't agree on what part of it to complete (or, rather, tell us too complete) at all. Kinda hard to do any of it when they can't agree on any of it!

I am so past getting over remodeling of the salesfloor!

Hope all are well, and all have a good day!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I could sure use a cup of decaf right now, and perhaps a slice of the lemon pie over there as well.

Been a busy day as usual here in the Finger Lakes.  Spent much of the day just cleaning up messes and running some errands.  Took a drive down to Penn Yan and followed the Keuka Creek Trail down to Dresden, NY to see if I could find an area that would closely match what I'm doing on the layout....  I know there are a few very similar places, but not any near the road where I could just get out and get the right shot.....  Too early to have the flora out anyway.  I guess I'll just use some photos of a few creeks I borrowed from the web for my Clinic on the rock strata.  Oh yeah, on top of everything else I got taged into doing a clinic for the Combined Meet with the syracuse guys a week from saturday (NMRA).

Spent a bit of time starting to get the lighting back up over the new area on the layout.  I say back up as I will be using stuff I removed when I tore out half of the room and changed the layout about 4 years ago.

Twas a bit windy today!  (Another reason I decided not to walk the trail for photos.)  Constant 35 to 45 mph wind at times with gusts around 60mph.  To the West (Rochester and south) they had gusts over 80mph.  One reading at the Rochester Airport was 81mph.  Bad enough to blow a moving CSX Train off the tracks in Batavia, NY.  There were several double stacked containers in the train and one of them was likely the first to go over.  One car was carrying Black Powder....  Good thing it didn't result in any sparks near that particular car.......  I got a news article from a guy out at the museum (North East of Batavia, NY) about the derailment.  No injurys from the incident.  Train had two locomotives leading with only 29 cars I think.  Was only one of many, many accidents and power outages, fallen trees, and such due to the wind.  First responders had a busy day they say!

Have a great night out there and stay safe!

I'll try a frozen custard, made like the one pictured on the left. Thanks!

Have found some really nice layout vids on youtube lately. Always the last thing I watch before bed these days. This gives me a train fix until the day I can resume work on the model railroad.

 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed and I will have a Beer please.

Tax Front Bang Head Had the taxes done and the good news is I get $620.00 back from the Feds, sort off. With my Health Care being through the VA. Any Meds I get from them I have a co-pay and they either take it out of my Fed refund or I can pay on line. I have tried to pay on line and it is a pain in the caboose! Last year I owed the Fed's $12.00 so nothing went toward my meds. So I owe them around $400.00 so I will get a little back.

Reason for the Bang Head? My state taxes are taken out by Mo. I have a extra $12.00 a week taken out to cover my ILL taxes. State of Mo is giving me $740.00 in a refund, yet I owe ILL a extra $43.00? Whistling

ROR Yes on the new job.

Computer Nerds I am sick of my current computer. I am thinking of getting this one. Take a look please.

Or may be this one, but is some what out of my price range.

I think the first one would fit my needs. I will use it mainly for going on line here, a little shopping (looking up prices I seldom buy on line) and photo bucket.

 Trains are running great!

I had a fun little experience last night. My middle daughter is living at home why she is going to college and she grooms dogs to earn a little extra money. Last night, she had a client come to the house to pick up her dog and the client brought her 10(?)-year-old son with her. He said to my daughter, "My cousins said there is a house with a huge train in it. Is this the house?!" (His cousins have also been to the house.) My daughter said it was, I came to the door, and invited him in. His eyes were as big as saucers. Good times.

I am loving the new job. It is refreshing to have an employer say, "What do you need to be successful?" instead of, "You get what you get. Be happy we still need you." I picked up my Microsoft Surface Book on Monday, and after some acclimation, I am liking it.

I was exchanging e-mails with Brent (Batman) this morning and he asked me to say hi to everyone. He is no longer able to post on the forums but he wanted to wish everyone well.

Morning diners,

Ulrich- I liked that OO Scale travel layout. It made laugh a little with the paper backdrops. I never had a problem with your small track plans.

If you guys remember the example track plan shown last month. Until I tested the board that it wouldn't fit going underneath the bed. I would need to cut off 5 inches to slide correctly. After months of measurements that my calculations we're wrong. My dad had a different idea lifted the bed frame and slide it. That idea works but I would need a jack (arm strength not good) and I really need furniture sliders because it was hard to take out.

If I do cut board I would lose 9" inches of the track plan to fit. I will also lose the long sidings for the factory, and team track.

Janie I'll have the ice cream.

Good Morning,

Thanks Steve for the offer of frozen custard but right now I need something hot! It is 6F outside with a -19 windchill. That wind has been howling out of the northwest since yesterday morning and isn't supposed to let up until tomorrow night when it will get really cold.

Nothing much new here. Right after lunch I will be heading out to my class at the Reh-fit so at least I will get a little exercise.

Have a great day,

CN Charlie
