Good evening.

What's that Chloe? An eerie evening killer donut? Sure, why not. Give one of the killer donuts to Ken too.

Jimmy - All 20 NS Heritage units? Congrats! Well, now you can go chase the special units - the new 4000 series, GoRail, Honoring series, Training First Responders train, the OCS, the "21st Heritage unit" - the EL SD45 #1700, and any others I might have missed. Then you got the UP Heritage series, the CSX Heritage sticker series, and there is always Steam... So many trains to chase, so little time...Wink

And, I know how the whole asthma thing goes... It gets very irritating, very quickly when I think I should be able to do this _____ (fill in the blank), but the asthma issues say otherwise... Controlling it is the trick, and sometimes that is much easier said than done, just like any other magic trick... Although it is nice when you can pull it off!

So, in that thread, here. {Fanning out a deck of cards.} Pick a card. Any card.... Whistling

Steve - So, I gather Wisconsin weather is much like NW PA - although our 4 seasons are Almost Winter, Winter, Still Winter, and Road Construction. (We best have more construction, what with our gas fees... But I won't go further into that one...) I will still take that over Florida's close to summer, too-hot summer, Hurricane season, perfect season....

Ulrich - Here's hoping for a speedy recovery for Petra.

CN Charlie - HOO-RAY!!! YAA-HOO!!! YIPPEE!!!! Glad to hear it!!!

Cudaken - Hopefully your ice storm is like mine from last week was, quick, and light!

Speaking of weather - Yeah, it was crazy here too. Yesterday early morning, we hit 57F, with lots of RAIN! All day it rained. Quite windy as well... But with the snow and ice melt, and all the falling "Liquid sunshine" from the sky, we had all kinds of flooding issues... And then, by 930 last night, it was snowing!IndifferentTongue TiedSurprise

Today's weather? 28 and light early snow, followed by sunshine, but still windy... Tomorrow, we could get snow, or freezing mix, or both, or rain, or ice, or all of the above, or even none, depending on which guesser you listened too... Confused Talk about covering all the bases! (I'm surprised one didn't throw in a thunderstorm or two, just incase!)

W**k - How can it be, that, last weekend, on one day, we had our best day since the big "day after sale", yet in 6 days since then (Saturday) we haven't hit that total in sales, combined?!? What gives?

Well, hope all have a good night, and hope all are well.

 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed will have a Crown Royal same for Inch, SS Rich will have a Boston Cream, would you like coffee with that? Rob will have a coffee in a UP Mug and I will have a Beer please.

Weather and Work Front Seems I was the only store open in my company. Weather Guesser are preching death by ice storm! Laugh IDOT was on the ball today and I never hit a slick spot! Weather Guesser where preching Stay Home, Don't Drive Or You Will Die! Most people did stay home, most parking lots where empty.

So at 4:00 PM I said Caboose this, locked up the store and came home. Again I never hit a slick spot but it was raining harder so I put a egg in my shoe and beat it.

Cederstrand
Ken, surely there is no limit to what your Y6b can pull. I think you should add even more coal cars

Rob At a Christmass party at K-10 Modle Trains the Y6b pulled 89 coal cars with out a hitch up grade! When I went to 100 cars, it was not the Y6b that failed but the coal cars! Yes They string-lined on a 32" turn going up a 1.5% garde. They where coal cars from the K-10 Layout, not mine. While the Y6b might be able to pull all the cars, not around my turns! Hum, might give it a try anyway. Whistling

CNC Charlie Your wife was lucky with the roof falling in. Great to hear the prostate cancer did not spread! Yes

Ulrich Hope things some how work out for you and Petra.

Steve Are there Skulls on the donuts? I just don't get it?

YGW Still cannot log on to Photo Bucket. Wheel just spins around and around then I get a dang ad for a camera I never looked at in the first places!

Inch sounds like we are both on the same side of the state. I am from Indy and it is about 2.5 hour drive for me as well.

Ed I have said many times my PCM Y6b is what all steam engines want to be I and I meant! Well I am ready to say the same for the CB&Q's! Not a single hick up and sound great! Main thing that is driving me nuts with the Might B&O F7's is not the lack of sound but for some reason when the A unit has it shell on it derails going right? Left side of the front truck is hitting the ladder. Every think on the front truck looks like it is where it should be. Seems the the shell is on right, pretty much it is on, or not on. With out the shell? Track fine? Whistling Getting ready to give here another try with out the shell.

 Later, Ken

Evening all,,,Flo, can I have double shot a crown, water by…… As Ken said,, weathers been strange the last couple days. Now we’re under a freezing rain advisory till Sunday afternoon. Ken’s under a warning. I don’t think it’ll be a big deal here. The last big ice storm was 2011, when we had 1” of ice, sleet, and 40-50 mph wind. We lost power for 7 days. Friends just south of us lost it for 9 days.

KEN,,, we do live in the same state, just opposite end of I-70. I’m 2 hour from Indy [18 mile from Ind state line] and 3 hour from ST. Louis. Surgery was done at the Indy VA, had good care other than one night nurse, which I won’t get into. Mother stayed at the veterans house [10 min from hospital and free] which included a shuttle back n fourth, so other than food, it didn’t cost her anything.

ULRICH,,,, Mother n my thought with Petra n you. Don’t worry too much bout gale bladder surgery; it’s nothing to speak of anymore. Grand daughter [15] had it on a Wednesday, back in school Monday.

ROB,,, sorry to hear bout Chief’s health. He havin leg problems.

CN Charlie,,,, great news on the biopsy… I find out bout mine the 25’th

Been feeling kinda bla the last couple days, tween the surgery and uncle arthritis, I have no energy. Starting to feel like Charlie an not being able to do much, can’t even take the trash out. Oh well this to shall pass with time n x-lax.

Thoughts n prayers for those in need, n hope ya’ll has a gooden

Charlie, that is really good news.

My wife's ex BIL probably had either a urinary tract infection or a diverticular abscess.  Maybe he is a drinking man, I dunno, I never met the guy.  He passed out on a space heater.  Now he has an abdominal abscess, 3rd degree burns of important parts and flesh eating bacteria.  I never met the guy but I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Good evening gents, Flo I'll have 3 eggs over easy, 2 sides of scrapple, and a large cup of joe...........

I wish everybody with health issues the best. I have been there before with knee surgery, back surgery, and two eye surgeries. I understand the anxiety levels you get to deal with. Good luck to all.

Garry......I was just checking out that MRC sound decoder for the S-2. I think I might try one as soon as I get back to work. (for real)

YGW......My layout is stricktly freelance. Land of make believe, Mr. Rogers stuff!! I try to keep it in the 1940-1955 range, but I know that second gen EMD don't belong but I fell in love with it and had to have it. I don't run it much anymore but that's ok. It looks good just sitting at the roundhouse too. I also have vehicles that don't jive with the era, including a blue 69 camaro convertible somewhere.

I have some pics of that CN sd-40 stopping by for some PM work. Getting her in the shop was tight, but we made it with no bumps or bruises. Also got some hopper cars loaded up with new coal loads. These look a little better than the last batch I did. I hope they run the lines properly this time too. Seems like I have thing for hopper cars and coal....all I need now is a mine. Well, eggs are here. Time to chow down..........ttyl

Scalecoat 2 C&O blue.  Why is this the only paint that I airbursh with that gets all over my hands, every single time?  I look like I've been fingerpainting.  Bang Head

Possible ice storm tonight or tomorrow. It was high 50's today so it won't be an instant freeze.

The Dakar rally is on NBCSN around 6 o'clock I think.  They moved it from Africa to South America a couple years ago because of terrorism.  Spectacular scenery.

Good news, it hasn't spread so they did get it in time! That means no further treatments. I now don't ever have to worry about prostate cancer.

That´s excellent news and a big relief for you and your lovedones! Great!

Today I've pledged to myself not to turn on the TV news. I must have some sort of obsession as I just can't seem to stop myself and then I get angry at what I hear.

I have long given up on watching the news on TV, but I do read them online, which makes me just as angry. As things in my country are really turning upside down at the moment, it is hard to stay calm, when you are confronted daily with a never ending string of alarming news. Any attempt on my behalf to "de-politicize" my life did not work out. We have to stay alert to any dramatic change, making a quick move necessary.

Model railroading helps me to keep my sanity in trying times, but less and less every day.

Good Morning,

Heard from the doc's office today as I wanted to know the biopsy results from my surgery. Good news, it hasn't spread so they did get it in time!  That means no further treatments. I now don't ever have to worry about prostate cancer. I see him in a month for a check on how everything is working. So far things are working better than I had expected so I am one happy fellow.

Good Morning,

It is very cold out there today. The windchill right now is -47F! I don't know how those birds manage to survive but they do. We had a blizzard yesterday morning so I suppose today is a bit of an improvement if colder can be classified as such. Warming is supposed to start tomorrow but I've heard that one before.

Steven .... LOL.

Flo ... Next time, I prefer the kind with holes. Thanks.

Ulrich ... Prayers for Petra.

Mr. B. ... I am not familiar with Bragdon foam castings. Keep us posted about tyour progress.

Ken ... Actually Florida does have seasons. The hurricane season and the rest of the year.

Rich ... I agree the Atlas S2 is a great HO model locomotive. I have one. I added the MRC drop in sound decoder, and am very pleased with it.

Jimmy ... You have put together an impressive fleet.

I hope it's nothing serious with Petra. Good Luck!

Just an ordinary excision of the gall bladder. Whether this can be done as an laparoscopic cholecystectomy or a traditional, old fashioned cholecystectomy is not yet decided and is up to the surgeon to decide on the individual case. The former one is a matter of 3 days, the latter one a week or even more.

Petra, although looking like a rather fragile small woman, is a tough old gal. In our 33 years, she never was really ill, except those seasonal colds. I know I should be confident that all will be well, but I am scared like hell.

Steven - I wonder how Flo managed to get my portrait on those muffins? cup cakes?

Morning all.  Temps were 60 degrees farenheight yesterday...now they dropped to 32 this morning...ugh.  Today is a day off for me, so I might just finish up the last slag car that needs built for the club, and probably go out chasing another Wheeling train across PA 51. Two days ago had me FINALLY catch the last NS heritage unit I needed to complete my set of the 20, but I took it a step further.  I got all twenty on the same Norfolk Southern Line "The Mon Line", which hasn't been a very busy branch, since it's main customer has been Bailey Mine, and a coouple others as well.  It took five years, two cameras, and a lot of frustration, but it's finally done.  The 8098 "Conrail" was the last one I needed.

Health: Still fighting anxiety I've developed in the past 3 years.  I'm sure I've had it since high school, but something has sent it into overdrive.  Asthma has been iffy as usual, but I'm still breathing so I can make do.

Trains: Only about halfway done, but my inventory sheet now has

24 locomotives-10 are Wheeling and Lake Erie

52 pieces of rolling stock freight

5 passenger cars (not including the PRR heavyweights I have but still need to inventory)

6 or so Cabeeses

I found a track plan I may be able to use to finally build myself a small switching layouts for the four axle switchers I own. the industrial park layout in the February 2017 Model railroader.

Hope everyone has a good day.

(My Model Railroad, My Rules)

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

Good Afternoon!

I woke up this morning to find the world around us covered by 4" of snow. I had to take Petra to the doc´s for having blood samples taken, so I had to dig out the car, de-ice the window and warm it up before we actuayll set off. Took 25 minutes for the 2km!

As Petra still feels weak, I did the laundry today. After the firts bload was done, the washer died on me. It is of no use to have it fixed after 15 years of service, so I have to buy a new one. The money will have to come from the piggy bank labeled "The Great Escape" and means a major setback in my thrive to raise the funds for a move to a safe place in the world. I am not getting a upmarket washer, just a basic one, but still it´ll be about $350. Adding to that the co-pay for Petra´s upcoming hospital stay and the piggy bank is empty Sigh

Life sucks these days at this end!

I just had a call from my wife. She was at the grocery store at the check-out when the roof started to collapse.

Wow! That was a close call!!

Several years ago the roof of the Sears Canada store in St. Johns, NFLD collapsed. They barely had time to get people out. A good friend of ours was the last person out the door and as he was going through the doorway the air pressure from the falling roof threw him about 20'. Fortunately neither he nor anyone else was hurt. There was a lot of snow on the roof but that wasn't the cause. What the investigators discovered is that the builder had cheated. There were fewer roof support beams than the plan had called for, and those that were there had not been welded into place properly. Apparently someone had the building inspectors in their back pocket. We hear about sub-standard construction in the less developed countries but it is somewhat chilling to have it happen here.

Hello gents!! Ken, thanks for the BC....just what the doctor ordered!!

A little follow up concerning my DCC issues from yesterday. I tested the track today and it all looked good. Couldn't find any problem areas so I went back to my troublesome S-2's and they still were stalling and stuttering around like they were drunk. I decided to do the unthinkable and rip one down and see what the deal is. I de-soldered the decoder, removed the trucks, removed the motor, looked at the gears, cleaned and re-lubed the driveshafts and truck gears, didn't really find anything telling that would lead me to a "got ya" moment. So, I re-assembled the atlas S-2 and placed her on the branchline and we were off to the races. I guess I will just do the same to the second S-2 over the weekend. Maybe that one will tell me something else. I like these atlas S-2's. They have been work horses on the HVBL. We're expecting a busy weekend with inbound deliveries so I hope to do a "little" railfanning in the basement. I see the CN is sending one of it's SD40's to our repair facility for some PM work. Cha-ching!!! I should be able sneek in there and grab a few pics. Enjoy the evening fellas.................

Started a train project!  I've been building a long covered staging area for a long time.  I'm going to cover the one visible vertical side with Bragdon foam rock faces, and that's what I started today.  It's a project, as anyone who's ever done Bragdon foam castings knows, but it gives great results.

 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed will have a Crown Royal, SS Rich a Boston Cream and I will have a Beer.

Day Off At Work Front. Man I am beat, got use to not being at work till 11:00 AM. I was there on my day off at 8:45 AM and it felt like 6:00 AM to me! Heating Air guys did not show up to 9:20, figuers! Extra 20 minutes would have been welcomed to. Zzz Bottom line all 4 heating units work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Big Smile Will be the warmest the store had been in the 3.5 years I have worked there! Yes

Did not get out of the store till 11:45 AM and ran till I think 4:00 PM.

Ulich and Petra Hope all goes well health wise.

Galaxy good to see you checking in. My wife would love to live in Fld, my self I like the change in seasons, ones that do not have me cutting grass that is!

YGW I went to upload your photos to the bucket and had problems like other folk have posted! Bang Head First time I can remember it wanted to log in? Not sure if I remember my password and user name any longer?

Weather is all screwed up here in IL. Yesterday it hit 65? It is now 29 and weather guessers say freezing rain up to 3/4 inch thick. Wife is freaking out! We had a bad ice storm around 2007 and lost power for 2 days. My self, well not worried till I see it.

Coal Car Count. Seems I have 115 coal cars? That may even be more than the Y6b can drag!

Ed Looking forward to the 2017 box and the Note Book!

 Later, caboose draging Ken

Howdy, Y'all!

Mr. ROR, {AND Mrs. ROR}:

I have an inherited duplex in FL, but we {assuming we stay together, and "ME ALONE" if we don't}, But we {I} don't like Florida. My grandmother built it for my moher and other htan nostalgia and some rent receipts, it has little value to me personally. SO: we {I} have been loolking at Valdosta, GA. It's a nice area, mid sized city, near the FL border, in SOuth Georgia. Housing costs well lets say you can get a very nice house for what we paid for this one last last year: $68K. That's RIHGT, $68K will buy you a very nice 2 or 3 br house there, and the overall COL there is similar to ours here in Binghamton NY. Valdosta  has  A University and a Military base nearby, so has many amenities to feed those who study/work/recreate there. It is WELL WORTH looking into.

BY the time we are retiring though, everything will probably have changed as others will have discovered this haven, and we won't be able to go, lol. But we are planning on investing in a house now {soon} to lease out until ready to retire there once our {my} father{s} are gone, one is 82 and healthy, one is 89 and failing health.

The weather is southern GA, and is often bypassed by the hurricanes with just some heavy rain. It is south of Atlanta and SAvannah, where winter ICE STORMS may form, and so Valdosta doesn't get them!

It is about 15 miles N of FL border, halfway across GA, nad about a 2 hour drive W to the GA beaches, or of course SOuth to FL.

It DOES have a Home De-Pot,, Lowes, Wally WOrld, etc and a MALL of its own for shopping pleasures. SO you can  get your train layout building supplies there! H0omes DON'T have basements, so a garage would be handy for you, many come wiht carports that could be enclosed.

SO, i have done a LOT OF computer searching, and google-earthing to check it out.

PM me if you wnat some links to Valdosta GA.

Have a greatr night everybody,

after a few cold days-bitter cold-we are Music havin' a heat waveMusic as it is near 50!!! But sigh, if this was MARCH, I'd be hoping for spring, but alas, we still have february to get through. I am afraid more bittercold is coming on.

Afternoon folks.

Chloe I could use a nice hot cup of hot chocolate, please.

Currently way too warm for the 12th. of January here in the Finger Lakes region....  It is 53°F outside with intermitant sprinkly, drippy, rain today.  Now we do talk about the "January Thaw" in these parts, but that usually consists of several days in the mid to higf 30's.  Tomorrow will be back to our usual 20's around these parts.

Ulrich, know that Petra (and you) will be in my prayers for her recovery.  My wife had her Gall Bladder removed when she was about 30.  Yes, today the proceedure is much easier than it was back then.  She had a scar from under one breast all the way to her other hip.......

Here in the Finger Lakes, particularly over in Montezuma Refuge (At the North end of Cayuga Lake) we have several varieties of Raptors.

This one was found sitting on a maple tree by my church.  I drove home and grabbed my camera and got back while the bird was still stting in the tree.  We thought at first it was a juvenile Bald Eagle, but a scienist at the Cornell Agricultural Experiment Station who is a bit of an expert, ID'd it as a juvenile Osprey.  Not quite as big as the Bald Eagle but just as powerful.  I know of a guy working on the high voltage lines that go trough the refuge that was almost to the top of the tower where a nest was.  The Osprey Mama took off from the nest, circled around and tore the living daylights out of the guy.  They managed to get him down and to the hospital to be sewn back up.  He sent several days in the hospital from it.  Very powerful animals!  I watched a small red tailed hawk take out as rabbit while driving on the NYS Thruway a couple years ago.  The hawk hit it so hard the rabbit was killed instantly.  Never moved!  We find the hawks sitting on telephone poles watching the area for any movement often.  Beautiful Birds!

Gotta get ready to go and pick up Art and Poetry from one of the schools in twon.  Catch you all later!

Afternoon!

Petra spend all morning at the doc´s and immediately went to bed when she came home! I am glad she caught a couple of hours of sleep. Not that she´s feeling fine now, but there are signs of improvement. Tomorrow she will have to see the vampires for some blood samples and I guess I will take here to the hospital not later than coming Monday. Her gall bladder needs to get out and while I understand this is not as big an affair as it used to be, it makes me worry. I am the one in this family who has a subscription to hospital visits, not she!

The thought of some wise surgeon cutting her up does not really comfort me!

Not many feathered friends to be watched in my neck of the woods, as the number of species seems to have dropped sharply over recent years. Not a good sign!
