Good Tuesday Morning, Diners...

It seems like the Diner has been a little sparcely populated lately. Well, I guess that can be expected for a January in New Hampshire. I hope the February Diner is someplace WARM  Smile

Speaking of warm, I think a warm brandy will make a nice night-cap, Flo. Thank you.

Sir Madog
Please keep Petra in your prayers.

And you as well, Ulrich. May these trying times pass by quickly and allow you both to find some peace and solace. Angel

Hey, KEN! The Package was put together today and will be in the Post Office's capable hands later today! I hope your wife's sister isn't sending a package too? I'll give you the tracking number in a PM in a little while. I deleted all my email off the computer, then found out I deleted ALL my email from ALL my computers! Umm, yeah, I guess that's how a network works (or doesnt!) Bang Head

Fortunately, I had most of the important emails saved in another folder Idea

Speakers? Yes, I was thinking about the F's but you may as well check the E7 as well. Wasn't the F units the ones you had the plugs swapped around in? IF you got track current to the speakers they are most likely fried.

I mentioned it in the reply a couple days ago and Moe Larry Curly answered, too.

IF you use the Ohm Ω setting you probably have to plug the leads into the proper sockets on the meter unless you have an auto-sensing one. Again, you can use a 1½ V. battery, briefly, you should hear static.

It dawned on me that this could be your problem after I had a Walthers/Life-Like E7 go silent on me. OEM speakers are pretty flimsy, in my experience (4 bad).

I just put all my JMRI roster files on Dropbox* so I can access them anywhere and any changes I make are automatically made available on the layout or shop Decoder Pro.

http://jmri.org/help/en/html/Dropbox.shtml

It was a little tricky to follow the JMRI instructions but somehow I muddled through.

Well, that's all the news here, folks. I hope everyone is doing well and you have a safe and enjoyable trip, Garry—and your toe heals quickly, Angelobob!

Keep your caboose toasty-warm...

Prayers and good cheer to all...

Regards, Ed

Good Morning!

I took Petra to the hospital on Sunday afternoon, as she got weaker minute by minute. The surgery could not yet been performed due an infection affecting her lower abdominal area. She is running a high fever right now and is awake only for moments during the day. There are small signs of improvement, but I am still scared stiff.

Please keep Petra in your prayers.

Johnboy,

last mountain & eastern hogger
Not so here in Canada 110 KPH  or about 70 MPH.

In the lovely province of Ontario the maximum speed on the major highways is 100 kph, or about 60 mph, and on the secondary roads it is 80 kph with occassional stretches where you are allowed to do 90 kph. The stupidity of such an arrangement is incredible. The cops won't bother with you on the major highways until you get above 125 kph or so, and everyone drives at 100 kph in the 80 kph zones, so what's the point of the ridiculously low speed limits? Of course, when there is a cop on the road everyone slows down to the limit, which creates a traffic jamb, which then causes the idiots to try to force their way through the traffic, which leads to accidents, which is more evidence of how stupid the speed limits are.

Here is an interesting observation. When we were in BC last summer I found myself to be slightly uncomfortable if I exceeded the speed limit on the 110 kph roads. Part of that may have been the fact that I was driving a rental car on unfamiliar roads, but I stayed in the right lane most of the time. Here at home I drive in the far left lane almost all of the time and I have no trouble keeping up with the traffic at 125 kph+. There's a message in there somewhere about the psychology of speed limits, although I'm not quite sure what it is.

Regards all,

Dave

Interstates in Montana are 80 MPH as well.

Except within major cities (Billings, Great Falls, Missoula), where it is reduced to 65.

Big trucks are limited to 65 on all interstates.

Good evening ..

Ken ... Thanks .. It should be a great trip to AZ. ... I'll check in with cell phone if I get a chance.

Lion .... 80 mph in North Dakota may be just tright on the Interstates. I recall driving accross the Great Plains back when they had the 55 mph and it was stricty enforced. It was a very long boring ride. I made several such trips, but not in North Dakota. It was South Dakaota, Nebraska, and Kansas.

 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed will have a Crown Royal, SS Rich will have a BC and I will have a Beer please.

Work Was Slooooooooooow! Only 1 customer all day.

Rich I have certain PK engines that love to have there wheels cleaned. The Bessmer SD7 happens to be one of them. Now some like my B&O GP 30's while they still need to cleaned. Maybe after 40 hours of run time, not that I keep track. Think some of the wheels casting is not as smooth so they pickup more junk. Great looking layout as well!

Larry I will try testing the speakers with a battery, good tip.

Garry Hope you enjoy yor trip.

YGW Got a late start tonight so I did not try to log into Photo Bucket, sorry.

Lion Only 80 MPH? One time I was driving from MN through IA to St Louis in my 69 Charger R/T with 2.76 sure grip rearend. Only other car on the interstate was some kind of Black Porsche. We where cruzing at 95 MPH and played around at times up to 135 MPH. Around that speed, well we both ran out of ball bearings. Never saw another car for over a hour?

Ed I was speaking about the PK 2000 B&O GP30's and the only problem I had had with them is they need to be oiled a lot. I tell you what, that pin point oiler so far seems to have fixed there oiling needs! Bow I all so have a idea what maybe causing the de-railment with the Might B&O F7a. Thinking the crews cab is not centered so one side of the shell is sucked in a tad. That might be causing the problem with the truck hitting the cab's ladder, I hope! Whistling

Trains are running great I will add! Love the CB&Q's!

 Later, Ken

Those are hockey masks, like the one worn by the killer in the Friday the 13th horror movies.

I had a goalie mask like that once.  I painted a STOP sign on it.

Man, as protection those masks weren't much.  I ended getting stitched up one night because a shot skimmed just over the top of the mask and gave me a messy but otherwise harmless scalp wound.  Now I wear a big helmet/mask just like the pros wear.

It does take the sport out it.

Fired up my brand new V1000 Bowser today.  I am still a DCC rookie so how it works is not intuitive.  The horn button on my NCE power cab did nothing, but the function button did.  No the horn works.  More reading to do.

Evening Diners,

Almost a week since I posted. I got a letter from my hobby store or email. They tried to get more NYC GP40s but it's not going to happen. I was a little disappointed because they usually have extras. Well at least I have a NYC switch tower.

It hasn't been a real winter in the desert either for two years. I last time I wore a scarf and pants was three years ago. It rained yesterday off and on making days boring.

A heavy can fulled with sauce fall on my foot. Opening it with the can opener which slipped off the counter. Bruising my left big toe that broke the nail in half and cut the skin underneath. I bandaged it and wearing one sock to cover the bandages so it won't come off.

Talk to you guys tomorrow.

What happened to winter?

It's the middle of January and I'm in New England.  It has been 40 degrees pretty much every day for a week, and that's the forecast for the next 2 weeks as well.  The little bit of snow we did have is melted, except where the plows built it up.

On my walk today it sounded and smelt like spring.  And, I saw a flock of half a dozen robins.

North Dakota is pondering 80 mph for the interstates, 75 for four lane divideds and 70 on all state roads. It will undoubtedly pass. People like to drive fast out here, but there is far less speeding than in eastern states. Why go faster if there is nobody in front of you who needs to be passed.

What setting did you use on your meter to fine the blown voice coil? Any more the only setting I use on my meter is check amps being pulled by the motor.

Ken you use the Ohm setting. I usually use the "diode" setting, if I get a beep it is good no beep , bad.

you can also use a battery, just clip leads to the speaker and momentarily touch to battery , click sound good, no sound bad.

Good evening gents and good football today!!  Flo, I'll have some of that spider cider that Ken was talking about and a BC for my sweet tooth. I see the frozen tundra has moved south to KC. Go big red!!

Ken, I never noticed the webs until I looked at the pic. I was snapping the shots as the loco was being directed into the shop. Had the bell ringing the whole way and the foreman was barking out orders. It got a bit hairy on that last turnout but no harm, no foul.

Been dealing with some de-decorating around the house this weekend so not much happening on the HVBL. I believe we have a reefer train coming thru this week but I haven't heard from dispatch as of yet. I think I am going to do a rebuild on that second S-2 this week. The first S-2 seems to be performing nicely since its rebuild.

Did someone mention wheel cleaning?? A true PITA on the HVBL. Seems like all I do prior to some simple operations and yes, it always seems to be the P2K's??

I think I need another BC...............

Evening all.

Zoe - Apple pie, with a couple scoops of ice cream, and a Coke please.

Weather - Cool 30F, but warming tomorrow. Actually could get more rain Tuesday and Wednesday, so more possible flooding...

W**k - Slow today, we came close to goal yesterday, but nowhere near that today... Hit some more spiff money yesterday, but if we fail on sales goals for the month, the spiff money may not happen... We have time to hit the goals, but, unless we get a few more customers...

Hope all are well, and all have a good night.

 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed will have a Cown Royal, SS Rich will have some Spider Spary and a BC. Myself, I will have a Beer please.

Work was slow. Had one fair deal but I am happy. Kept busy changing price tags and did a little reading.

inch 90 mph sounds about right. Whistling Have not made the drive in 15 years so I think I maybe a tad off. More likely 3.5 hours.

SS Spiders sure do love model train layouts! My RSD 15 (looks a lot like your SD 40) looked like that after letting it sit for a year.

Ed, I am thick as a brick sometimes! Few days ago you where talking about a QSI that ran but no sound and it was the speaker. Little before that post I was talking about the PK 2000 E-8 Paper Weight that has working sound. So it did not dawn on me till last night after trying another reset on the Mighty B&O F7's you might have been talking about them! Bang Head What setting did you use on your meter to fine the blown voice coil? Any more the only setting I use on my meter is check amps being pulled by the motor.

Train Mojo Front? Seems like everytime I want to change things around Mr M steps in! Bang Head Bessmers where getting fat and lazy with the Y6b dragging there train on the B line. Decide to have them pull a 25 car coal train on the A line. They said Heck No! Whistling PK 2000 SD7's wants it wheels cleaned again! This engine loves to have it wheels cleaned!  Walthers SD 7 with sound does not have the needed Brass Balls to make the drag. PK 2000 Rio Grand all so said it wanted it's wheels cleaned?

Train front : Moved some lumber this wekend over closer to the Hobby Barn.

Garry - Hey I am here !

Ken - Glad your day ended well ! "Egg in shoe beat it " ??? LOL I ahve never heard that one !

V8 - Here outside of NOVA we do not have to have a smog test - thank God, Just a yearly state inspection which with older vehicles usually cost me $500 plus because something always needs to be fixed !

Mammy 76 - Are you new to the diner ? If you are hello and welcome to the diner ! If not welcome back ! Curious do you model the Alaska in the winter or summer ?

Ricky - When I worked at a another position years ago I found that when tehy had sales the regular buyers would snatch up teh sales stuff and then not buy until the goods were gone. I always thought sales were just another way of robbing me of commision.

Good morning .... I'll have coffee and a pecan roll please.

Mammay76 .... Good to see you in the Diner.  I have thought the ARR would be fun to model. Several years ago I was in Alaska and did have some locomitive cab rides. It was in the summer, and I did not experience the frigid weather.

Ken .... Are you having tha bad weather where you are with sleet or freezing rain? There is nothing worse than driving on icy roads.

FRRY ... It is good to hear you are working on your layout projects.

 Evening Diners

Flo, Ed will have a Crown Royal, SS Rich will have a BC and I will have a Beer please.

 What A Day At Work!

Strated out bad! I was the only store open yesterday and had a problem with a delivery that was set for (By the main offices) 11-11-17 not the needed 1-14-17. Called the GM and he sort of said the problem was fixed. Reason I say sort of fixed he was on his cell phone, was at home (lives a whole 1 mile from the main offices) but I was having a hard time hearing him, kept breaking up.

He texed the Wharehouse manger and told him that (All so at home) there was a delivery to Scott Air Force Base so the delivery people would have ID to get on. What he left off, was THIS IS A ADD ON DELIVERY THAT WAS SET FOR THE WRONG DATE TO BEGAIN WITH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Called the store at 9:45 AM (we open at 10:00 AM) and spoke to Rob the warehouse manager. He was only told there was a delivery to Scott Air Force Base not that it was a add on, and never made it on the truck! Got that taken care of and thought that I was done with it.

Wrong!!!!!!!!!!!! Next thing I got a call from the GM telling me this was all my fault! He claims he told me to call the Warehouse Manger and let him know! (remember he was on his cell phone at home and was breaking up) Told him I did not hear him say that and he said "Bull Poop" (did not say pop) and Bam!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We Where Off To The Races!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Told him, if you would like I will lock the store right now and bring you the key! Then I told him I had another call, and hung up!

I will add he was 95% likely to have changed the delivery date to 11-11-17. He was there when I sent the change over. Called him back, he he never bought up my offer about the Key. Whistling Maybe if he was at work, and not on his sale phone this would not have happned. Whistling Or better yet, if the date had been key right from the Get Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After that things went up hill for the better! Big Smile Closed the day with $4050.00 in sales, made a extra $165.00 in spiff and got out on time.

Afternoon all!

Haven't stopped in for a few days. You miss a bunch when you don't.

Hobby Front:  Decided to order pieces to build a replacement for the OOP Walthers Modulars conice sections. Looking at the one remaining cornice section I have, I decided that some Walthers brick sheet, which has the same brick pattern, could be used. An old MR article on building up brick sheet will be referenced. The top will use some Pikestuff cap tiles. (I have lots of walls but no cornice.) I will have to wait until I get the first mockup built to figure out what sort of styrene strip I will need to get the piece to the right thickness. It should be an interesting project.

Edit: That's what I get for not getting to the Diner lately. Top of page. I guess the food's on me.

Good morning everyone!

Just thought I'd drop in and say hello!  I'm getting ready to leave the house to go to an operating session on a club layout, call the Providence Northern. I'll try to take some pictures and post up!  I've been a member of the forum for a while, but have not posted too much.  I operate weekly with a great group of guys in Rhode Island.

I'm just getting started on my first layout and 10 years. If my avatar hasn't given it away already, I'll be modeling the Alaska Railroad in HO scale.

I'll be starting small, modeling the oil refinery in north pole Alaska, in the dead of winter.

I got inspired to model that from an article in trains magazine from December 2007.  The article is titled Alaska, moving freight at 50 below.

AnyWho, hope everybody has a great weekend and look forward to contributing here more!
