And today is my 30th wedding anniversary.  It's hockey night, and that takes priority, but tomorrow the wife and I will go out to dinner to celebrate.  When I said "Happy Anniversary" this morning, she confessed that she didn't remember it at all.

Mr. B, so how fast was your car going sideways when it hit the other guys car??? I'm surprised the person didn't try to claim that anyway.... Whistling Glad it will be taken care of without any cost to you!

Ha!  Had to read that a couple of times before I caught on...

The other driver was a pretty, doe-eyed 20-something girl.  You know, the kind you just can't be mad at no matter what she did?  I did call the police as a CYA move.  I felt a bit bad that they cited her for something, but on the other hand, if she got a citation and I didn't, then the insurance laws tilt more in my favor.

If she had walked into the bar later that evening, I would have bought her a glass of wine.

Whistling

G'd Morning Gang,

Have been checking in on ya all, but haven't posted in awhile as I have been to busy and then too lazy to get much done on the LM&E.

Ken,    My Wife and I will keep Your Daughter Sharon , you and your Wife in our prayers. As you know, Our Buddy "Flip"/Phil from Florida and I went through problems with the esophagus and mine is now closed off at the top and will remain that way the rest of my life. It is far from being a fun experience. I truly feel for Sharon and please tell her she is in our thoughts and prayers. We hope she finds a quality Surgeon to solve this problem and the DNR, just remains as insurance and not used. I believe that Phil's was successfully reconnected at the bottom.

Bear,   I like your idea and what you posted in regard to the "Diner".

Hi Jim,   Our weather had been quite hot up until a few days ago and now it is very wet. Lots of storms over Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Estevan, a small city in the south of Sk. about 25 mins. from the US border got 5 inches of rain in two hours on Sunday. Lots of flooding down there.

Blessings to all,

Johnboy out..........till later......... Back to work

from Saskatchewan, in the Great White North..

Good morning.  Flo, a cup of tea and an elephant ear, if you please.  On the road again.  The NMRA convention was a success for me, lots of good clinics and a chance to talk to new people.  The Train Show featured a group of live steamers.  Intriguing part of the hobby.  Talking to one of the live steamers, he told me an engine kit contains over 2,000 parts.  Bought several new tweezers, and some Caboose Industries switch stands.  Talked to lots of vendors.  Good assortment of club layouts.

Yesterday went to the hobby store in Davenport, Ia that got me started modeling in 1967.  The store is still in downtown in the same building owned by the same family.  I bought three old car kits at bargain price as they sell consignments for local modelers.

Speaking of travel I have been in 49 states and all but three Canadian provinces.

Ken, prayers for your daughter.

Eggs are ready so I best go eat.

Johnboy, how is the weather your way?

Jim

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast coffee and a couple of those sour cream glazed donuts over there on the counter....  Please and thank you!

Bear, that could be interesting, but not sure what you have in mind for us to do at the event......????

Ken, keeping your daughter and your entire family in my prayers during this ordeal!  Do hope she can find a surgeon that can fix it.......

Mr. B, so how fast was your car going sideways when it hit the other guys car???  I'm surprised the person didn't try to claim that anyway.... Whistling  Glad it will be taken care of without any cost to you!

I'm waiting for the driveway sealing place to come back over and finish the job.  Evidently 10:30AM isn't first thing in the morning for them.....  LOL  I don't care, as long as they do finish the job.  In the meantime I have been cleaning house again.  Almost have the dining room and the hallway vacuumed.  Found a bit more dusting needing to get done there also.  this afternoon as soon as the sun moves to the other side of the house, I want to finish washing the dining room windows.  Also need to drive to Canandaigua to get a new mat for the bathroom floor....  Going to be a busy day here!

Good morning all.

Flo, breakfast special with scrambled eggs, home fries, bacon, wheat toast, and a OJ please. Thanks.

Ken - Sorry that your family is going through a rough time, hope that all works out for the best.

JaBear - I like, only we do get to eat pie afterwards, right?

Weather - Hot, humid, and hot and humid together. Nuff' said.

W**k - I go in this afternoon, hoping for a quiet day, but one with good sales and numbers. Also hoping the AC problem got fixed. (And, hoping that I am not hoping for too much here. Wink)

Hobby - Finished one car kit, have to do final assembly on the other, then it's time to weather. Big Smile

Hope all are well, and enjoy the day!

Good Afternoon!

Another drab day over here, just wet & awful. Couple of hours ago we had a bad thunderstorm, just when I was heading for the sofa to take a nap. Lightning had struck fairly close to our house and the thunder was really earth-shattering!

I don´t think we will have much of a summer this year. I am hoping for some nice weather for the first weekend in August - it´s the annual Rail Fan´s Weekend at the DEV - a narrow gauge museum line about an hour´s drive away. During this weekend, the will have all locos they have under steam and that´s a total of 7 locos! Some sight!

Garry & JaBear - I am very much in a favor of that solution - I have no better idea for the moment. Maybe we should have a completely different approach to the name of the Diner in the coming year, as the memory on Jeff and Barry slowly starts to fade away, leaving only us "oldtimers" with fond thoughts on those two gentlemen and their contribution to this forum.

My friend Lothar has returned my Z scale Decapod - repaired. This guy is a wizard. It took him 6 hours, as he had to completely disassemble the loco and reassemble it. Truly a watchmaker´s job.

I have started to sell off my trains. Part of the funds I hope to get will be used for acquiring some more old Marklin stuff, but most of it, say 80%, will be put in the piggy bank for rainy days, of which we have plenty these days. Most of our appliances are dying of old age now ...

Ken -please keep us informed on how your daughter is doing!

They finished the paving job at the end of the street, and they mostly did it right.  It was two full coats, base and top, and they paved the whole bad road, not just the worst parts where they added some drainage.  I am a bit worried that the pavement drops off sharply to dirt on the shoulders, and a heavy rain will likely wash out the edges and start to undermine the roadway itself.

The insurance adjuster should be here shortly to look at my car.  It was dented last week in a parking lot.  This one is all on the other driver - I was legally parked, not even in the vehicle.  I'll have no out-of-pocket expenses.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please. Sigh

Most of the day sucked rail spikes. Did not get any better when I came home.

My daughter (Sharon) has life threating surgery she needs to have done. If she can find a surgen that will do it! Her esophagusis not attched to her stomach right. (had a surgey done years ago to have that fixed that has now failed) Plus there is a growth on the esophagus that is rubing her heart. The heart surgen she saw today is worried about doing the surgey. Sigh

She is seeing a Laywer Tuesday to have a DNR order drawen up. Means Do Not Resuscitate.

 Later, Ken

Gidday Zoe, a large mug of green tea and whatever the ffolkes would like, please. I do drop in here on a reasonably regular basis but lately, what with the temptations of Fried Chicken and BBQ ribs, I usually slip on down the back and wait for one of the girls to bring me my green tea. Actually her-in-doors and I were discussing the BBQ ribs and came to the same conclusion that they are a recent, in the last 20 years, addition to the menu here down under. They are very nice for a change but I usually end up with most of the sauce stuck in my moustache and beard, a very messy Bear.

FRRYKid, thanks for the clarification on the “Hebron Bricks”, it is pleasant to the eye. While I realise that Miles City is a historic name, I was chuckling because here in NZ, a town had to have a population of 20,000, the rule was changed to 50,000, to be able to be called a city. As for pigeons, well I consider them aerial rodents!!!

Ken, I hope things work out for your daughter.

Heartland Garry and Ulrich, I’ve beenthinking about your comments a few pages back on how Barry could be suitably remembered and wonder if we already have an answer in that you both mentioned the “Barry sized” phrase which has sort of caught on. I would suggest for both your and other Diners consideration that a menu be attached to the start of the month preamble, the first item being something along the lines of the Blownout Cylinder Special, a Barry sized burger with a large side of Poutine and a gallon of Orange Juice and/or coffee. The menu could be added to when necessary, though I would hope not for a very long time.

Just another Suggestion....

Thoughts and Best Wishes to All that need them.
Cheers, the Bear.Smile

Unfortunately, my plan to work on my GP30 more came unglued, literally. The package of super glue that I purchased as a stop gap proved to be useless. But what should I have expected for only $1. Not that I'm out much, except I wanted to get it a little bit further along. Oh well, I can pick up the long delayed BN 1976 and get some painting done on it.

Good evening all.

Chloe, a slice of apple pie, with a generous scoop (or two) of ice cream please. Thanks.

Weather - Humid today, hot and humid tomorrow and Wednesday for our forecast. It only* hit 82 today, but supposed to be 90+ tomorrow and 95+ Wednesday. (And me with no AC for the bedroom, due to its location.....) (Only* is a relative statement, comparing it with next two days, it is only* 82.....)

YGW - Manager in training pays no extra, and doing less sales means less bonus/spiff money. Being actual manager pays more, due to getting a pay raise. Because our store manager retired, and we have no official replacement yet, the Sr. Asst. Manager is "acting" store manager, (slight increase for her in pay, just until she is either officially promoted, or they hire a new store manager), the next manager is filling in as Sr. Asst., and I am filling in as third. (No pay increase for us last two.... And no one is stepping up to fill my spot.) If you get the actual promotion, the pay raise is more than the sales bonuses were, and the few you hit you would still get. Filling in as one, except as store manager, means no extra pay, and less chance at a sales bonus.

Howmus - My Peebles has them.... Whistling But that would be quite the drive for you. But, if you find yourself in rural NW PA..... Wink Hey, give me a shout before you come, I will find you a coupon.

Speeking of Peebles - AKA W**k Whistling - Had a horrendous sales day yesterday, doing 1500 as a store for the day, I did only 600 myself. (Normal Sunday is closer to 1900-2000, Corporate wanted 2100.) Zero's for accounts and contest numbers, for everyone. Last months accounts bonus, for just me, is upper double digits, so far this month, low single digits... Had one "customer" start pitching a fit over the new account offer, and when I explained why we ask, "it is our job to offer it, ma'am.", she began raising her voice even louder. (Great.... Here we go.) I got the whole "you have zero right to pester someone building a house about opening some stupid credit card, as that will affect your FICA score....Blah blah blah... On and on..." (Yep. It does. Congrats on figuring that out, and all on your own, too. So does taking a year to build said house, as that was the excuse you used on me a year ago, but that all went unsaid.) What I did respond with, was, "Correct. Now that we have that clear, calm yourself down. This is how we are to do our job, if that is an issue, the number for corporate, whose rules I have to follow, is on the door as you leave. You can either calm down, and stop shouting at me, and pay for your purchases, or you can walk out the door without them, your choice. This action and behavior is not acceptable, however, and will not be tolerated further. Either stop yelling, or you will be told to leave. This is the one and only warning you will get." (I do not get paid enough to be hollered at by some grouchy idiot, nor will I let him/her create a scene.) She paid, begrudgingly, and stated that she was never coming into our store again. (Can I get a bonus for every time I hear that? I could retire now, @30 years old if I could get that. Smile, Wink & Grin 12 years of working retail will let you hear that empty threat quite often... Usually when you tell someone "no". Of course, I am not permitted to say "I thought you said you were not going to come back." Mischief ) Our one other customer at the time, (busy stretch by yesterdays standards, two people at once!) was very irritated that she had yelled like that, and asked me for whomever was in charge. (That was me, the only manager on duty (MOD) yesterday after 130) When she was informed that it was me, she asked if I had "kicked the idiot out for acting like that". (Nope. She left on her own, thank you. Big Smile) I told her that I was about too, but she left on her own. This customer (much nicer, btw) then said that she hoped that the other lady never returns. (So long as you don't make a scene, you are permitted back. Just don't push it....) Otherwise, a very uneventful day.

Hope all have a good night!

Once I got the flat ready to be billed home, I discovered that some of the dimensional data had disappeared. After a little bit of quick thinking I remembered that I had put the decal sheet in my railroad binder. I then was able to quickly fix the problem.

I also finally got ambious and got to work on my GP30. Given the nature of the engine, I decided to Liquitape the plows. The MU hoses I still have to figure out. The antenna and horn and horn bracket are ready to go when I am ready for them.

Afternoon folks,

Chloe how about an ice cold glass of lemonade?  Thanks!

The driveway sealing place didn't arrive until after I had to leave for the Toyota Dealer for the PiP service...  Got back home and found they only did half the job.  The side on one street was done, but not the other drivway on the side street...  So first thing I did was call and nicely ask why they only did half of the job.  The lady assured me they will be back in the morning to finish it!  Evidentally they didn't read the whole order they were given...  The good news is that both driveways will be able to be used on Wednesday evening when I am expecting a bunch of people for the Boy Scout committee meeting.

I then went over to a strip plaza here in town to get a few items.  One thing i wanted to get was a new bath rug for the nessessary room.  Online said Peebles carries them.  I guess they do but not in our store!  So I guess that means a trip to Canandaigua to the Bed, Bath, breakfast, and Beyond to get that.  Next I stopped at the Value center to buy a mop and a squeegee to wash the outside windows.  Then over to Radio Shack to buy a new battery for my scales so I can embarass myself once in a while and see if I have ......  Well, you know.  It was at that point when I learned that sometime in the last couple weeks Radio Shack in Geneva has closed.....

yougottawanta
Howmus - Why were you going to picket IBM ?

Ahhhhhhh......  No, we weren't picketing IBM, we were threatening to picket at IBM!  That was to get IBM to put some very official pressure on a few of their employees to get back to the bargaining table............  A couple other area schools had done that and found it was very effective.  BTW, My wife and I were friends with several IBMers that lived in town.  I taught their kids, sang in choirs, belonged to some common organizations, etc. and for the most part they were good, honest, decent folks (not all of them though.... Whistling)

OK, back to w*rk!

. . .Around here back in the day everyone want to work for IBM. They paid well, had job security, treated their peopel great, great bennies. . .

Not so much these days. Pay is around the industry average as are the benefits. As for the way the people are treated and job security, not so much. Just ask the 15,000+ that have been let go this year.

Ulrich - hope you get a good report. Did you like traveling ? I do not. I like going home to my family too much.

YGW - I didn´t yet get all the results from the check-up. I don´t know whether this is good or bad news. Saturday´s collapse scared the heck out of me - you know thes calls get closer each time...

There was a time when I liked traveling very much, but in later years it became a drag. Petra and I will be married for 32 years in two weeks, but if I deduct all the time I was away from home, drumming up busines, I think it´s only 20 years. We never before  had so much time together as we do have now - how shocking

"Shhh. There's no noise in Ill-a-noy."

That sounds a lot like something one of my grade school teachers told me on that point. (From what I recall, she was from Illinois originally.)

Mentioning all the states people have been to, I will put mine into the mix: Washington State (family), Oregon (family), Idaho (passing through to WA and OR and this September for a vacation), Montana (of course), Wyoming (family), North Dakota (college connections and vacations), South Dakota (vacations), Minnesota (not very far into the state {Breckenridge, which is across the river from Wahpeton, ND} but I have set foot in the state. That was last summer as part of a vacation). Pretty good considering I don't drive.

I managed to get the flat car fixed fairly quickly. Hopefully the ACI plate decides to stay put this time.

Well one PDO out of the way and two building inspections and home inspector to deal with.
