 Afternoon Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please.

Had a decent Download today so I am feeling better. Yes

Man it is hot here! It is 96 outside and wipped my caboose pretty quickly! Feels good in the garage and may leave the A/C on all night. It will help keep the house a little cooler.

Pool / Yard Wars Was cleaning the Duck Weed out of the pool cover and the 10 year old leaf net started to tear. OK, it was the next thing to falling a part. One more scoop it would have been total junk. So I ran to the pool store and bought some water bags and a commical grade leaf net. I do like it, much bigger than the one that was falling apart.

Then went to Lowe's and bought some flowers and potting soil. While I was there I checked on the fence to see if there was a install date set yet. Lumber was not in yet so not date had been set. I was told after after they get the lumber it be about 3 week's! Bang Head Now the Bang Head is not because it will take 3 weeks, it is because it will be only 3 weeks! I was told 6 weeks before. Reason I would like it to take 6 weeks is I have to clear the fence line and pull down the old fence. With the heat we have been having it may take a while for me to get done.

YGW Really looking forward to getting the coal cars! If you would have used them I know they must be nice! Hum, Pool in the Rec Room? How much does that add to the total cost of the house? Whistling My self, I would love a enclosed pool. Sure make keeping it clean easy!

V8 Vega Good luck on the AC.

Just had a nasty train werck in a 13 foot tunnel!Sigh

 Later, Ken

angelob66660.

You could model both roads in HO scale and have 2 passenger and 2 freight trains from each road.

Can we see some photos ?

Afternoon Diners,

I was wondering if buying a steam locomotive would be a huge commitment. Since I thought of making a small 2x4 layout with 3 locomotives. 2 freight trains and 1 passenger train.

It's probably the same thing with diesel locomotives after buying steam locomotives.

I'm a tied between the New York Central or Southern Pacific. Maybe I should try modeling different railroads.

Who's the new Soprano Singing in the back? Mister Beasley!!!???!!! Oh little mishap on the ice last night. I see.

Ray!  With all your musical training and knowledge, how could you say such a thing!  Countertenor!  I still will have to shave my face before heading out to the bar tonight.

Really, the pads still did almost all of their job and I only took a small fraction of the impact personally.  I decided to skp my bike ride today, though.

Afternoon Chloe.  I'll have a Reuben Sandwhich and a glass of lemonade for lunch...  Who's the new Soprano Singing in the back?  Mister Beasley!!!???!!!  Oh little mishap on the ice last night.  I see.

Other than doing a load of wash that gave me a few minutes to work on some trees on the layout, I haven't accomplished a thing today.  Today is partly here in the Finger Lakes Region.  That means the output of the solar panels is yo-yoing between 3500 watts and 750 watts depending on the clouds rolling by....  First half of the day they produced a little over 11kWh so the total won't be too bad today (double that).  High today will be a comfortable 75°F, and after I run a couple errands, I will finish mowing the lwan.  Got half done last night when the temperature moderated down to under 80°.

Yesterday afternoon I went out back to the raised bed gardens to find a Bunny Rabbit nibbling my lettuce!!!  Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!  So I will be buying some short fencing to put around the top of the gardens.

Gotta get back to doing some stuff....  Catch you all later!

Lunch time !!!

Yesterday I had thE worst migraine. Went home and went to bed. Today it is still lurking just waiting for the stress to go over the top and bam hit me with it again Ick! But so far it has not struck like it did yesterday - joys of being the head boss - Loads of trouble today. Putting siding on a house and discovered it has several badly bowed studs - stopped siding install, Frame problem in new house type at Kitchen - rip out drywall and reframe and redrywall, Roofer hasnt shown up all week that house has a swimming pool in the Rec room now, Another house the floor truss supplier installed two trusses with a 1/2" extra crown now we are ripping out drywall and adjusting floor trusses, Gas company showed up and called miss utility in for the wrong house - no gas today, Electrician just started a house he was to have finished today.....Oh I think the headache is coming back ...

Good news - Yesterday they removed the massive tree off of MIL house - she is so stubborn - I begged her to come stay with us and get out of that death trap, She refuses to leave. It drives me nuts to know she is living in that place with the crooked walls, broken trusses, manged electric and being able to see stars through the torn roof.

Ulrich LOL !!! "They don´t make any spare parts for THAT!"

Mr B - Whoa - I am surprised you were even able to get up after that !

Reinhard - Glad you all were not hurt. Sorry about the garden - There is a farmers market in "The Plains" every weekend maybe you could pick up some veggies there ? Looking forward to Monday too !

Jim - I know isnt that surprising toronados in Va ?! But we have bunch every summer. There was another warning last night. Big storm hit again. We lost power for two hours.

V8 - Are you going to install a header ?

Ken - Try prunes, hope you feel better

John B - Okay wont tell JaBear - heck it may swell his head and then he wont fit into the diner door ! What a loss that would be !

JaBear - That Pavlova was delicous ! Any left over ? Dinner

Garry - Howdy

Goota git back to w**k phone ringing off the hook Sigh

OK, here's a unique one for the aches 'n' pains department.  I was playing hockey last night, in goal as always, when the guy we call Tony the Chicken fired a hard shot from the top of the right face-off circle.  I squared up and it caught me dead center, right in the, well, guys, you know where it caught me.  That's pretty heavily padded and protected, but somehow the puck partially eluded the pads.  I stopped the shot, dropped to my knees and covered the rebound.  Then I just sat there.  That HURT!  Somebody on the bench yelled, "It's OK.  He doesn't use 'em anymore anyway!"  Everyone laughed.  I laughed.  I discovered it hurt when I laughed, too.

I'm OK this morning.  But, I've got inspect my pads.  It may be time for some new equipment.

I prefer the usual "drag into a new window and post" method over uploading photos in jpg fomat to a third party hosting service.

Drag and drop does not work here.

I belong to one non MR forum that allows people to inadevertantly upload huge pics.  It screws up the way all the text appears in everyone's message and you would need 2-3 more monitors to see the whole thing.

I've had my credit info hacked twice (Home Depot and Target) my health information three times (Blue Cross, Anthem and Washington Hospital Center.)  I am not worried about my pics on Photobucket.  I assume everything posted on a computer connected to the Internet is available to Vladamir Putin, Jullian Assange and China and North Korea.

On the train front, I have proven that Caboose Ind ground throws are made of Delrin and plastruct and super glue have only transient effects.

Small F-0 tornado about 30 miles NW of here.  No one injured but power outages, trees down and one through someone's house.

Good Morning All.

A quick stop for some coffee before going to w**k.  Should be a normal day after we were attacked by severe thunderstroms all day yesterday which played havoc with the air traffic at IAD.  Heavy rain, strong winds and lightning made for an interesting combination.

YGW - looking forward to our meeting on Monday and Happy belated Birthday. Lets see if kasskaboose can join.  Hope you did not suffer any damage from the storm last night.  My wifes vegetable garden was destroyed by hail and the garden furniture was thrown into the woods.  No damage to the house which is a blessing.  All my flights made it to the field but while on the ground it was a challenge as well as getting them out.  Hope things are more "normal".  I sent a PM to kasskaboose about the wiring and will call some time today.

Have to run.

All the best.

Good Afternoon!

This is really turning into a habit - the midday snooze! I just woke up, but I don´t really feel refreshed - bah!

Janie, strong dark roast coffee in an IV bag, please and a slice of that apple pie, topped with vanilla ice cream and leaves of dark chocolate with it. Thank you.

I made a video on our trip to the zoo. It took 5 hours to do the editing and dubbing yesterday and now I am uploading it to Youtube. It´s been uploading for 2 hours now and only 40% done. It´s a 12 minute video and that takes ages to upload at an upload speed of only 700 kBit/sec.!If I had the money I´d upgrade to the new VDSL line, which has a download speed of 50 MBit/sec and an upload speed of 10 MBit/second! The difference in money terms to my current line is "only" $12 a month - but I don´t have that kind of money if I want to keep up a minimum of MRRing activities. So I have to wait, and wait, and wait, and wait....

Hooray - it´s 42% done now ...

FRRYkid, instead of wire glue, would just soldering the rails and joiners together work? It would be just as sttong, if not stronger, and cheaper. (Of course, this is cheaper only if you already have a soldering iron and related experience to not fry things while soldering...) Just thinking out loud here, but, I would either solder the rails together, or, use flex track, or even hand-lay track for the custom crossing. (IIRC you stated flex was out though, so, based on that, my choice would be solder the sectional track together.) The above soldering tips are good.

The closest I could come to the needed pieces would be maybe get some from the ranch supply, but the only soldering iron is a bid gun type that I think is way too big for what I need. (Ranches have no need for small soldering hobby irons, I seem to think.)

Even if I had the right tools, the last time I even tried to solder anything was too many years ago for me to remember how to do it properly. I don't even solder the electrical connections. I use premade Atlas terminal joiners.

There are places where I have used flex (like the fueling tracks - Walthers kit) because of the continous rail run and in that use, the rail is glued down. Flex has a bad habit of moving even after it has been down for a long time. Given that the section in question will be taken out at some point, I don't want that problem to happen.

I have never tried to handlay track and given my fingers aren't very agile, that's not a real good idea either. (I took a finger agility test at a Job Service Center one time and I scored outside the standard range on the low end!)

Given those reasons, I think I will order the wire glue. (I tried to see if any place in town had it. Of course, the Curse of a Small Town made itself known. Nobody had it and some of them hadn't even heard of it!)

Good evening.  It was another very warm and dry day in the mid-Ohio Valley.  So much rain up until two weeks ago and now not a drop.  The grass is turning brown and not growing hardly at all.

Wasted most of the day as the dog has gotten sick.  Vet says she has pancreatitis.  She was passing blood in her stool and threw up blood in the vets office.  So, I left her at the vets tonight so they can keep her on an IV as she had become dehydrated.  Think her problem may have been caused by eating too many cycadise.  Hope she is better tomorrow and we can bring her back home.

Managed to spike down about four more inches of track yesterday and cut another couple of 18 inch sections to lay coming out of another turnout into the planned yard area.

YGW, sorry to hear about your MIL's house damage.  Didn't know Virginia was a prime tornado area but I guess about anywhere can have them develop.

Ken, I swear by yogurt as good eats.  I have a yogurt for lunch most days along with a half of a dark chocolate Hersey bar.  That's a couple hundred calories and enough to keep me from snacking the rest of the afternoon.

Well, its time for some Z's.

Hope everyone has a good hump day.

Nope!  When you try to access your "Bucket" it says it is private.  Clicking the photo here at the forum does take you to the photo at your Photobucket Account but that just lets us see it full size.  I beleive that is the way it is supposed to work if your Account is all private.

I have some of my lists open to the the public, and others that are password protected and come up as "Private".

Hi Garry, I think the only photos you can wander in and see though are those that are public.  I have all my family's photos (grandaughters, ect) password protected.  Any of the other stuff I don't care if the world can access and see.  I also am careful what I put on there knowing that it is a public site...  So I don't put photos of any personal info, my bank account numbers, and other stuff like that up at any public site........  LOL

You'd think the city would have installed a big enough drainage system after that vacant lot was replaced with a house.

That was probably 5 years ago.  That town is notorious for its bad roads.  My car needed new tires and rims last winter, and the guys at the shop advised that I wait until the end of the summer because the roads were so bad and the winter was only going to make them worse.

This will be a seriously big project.  They'll have to dig up the whole street to put the drains in and route the water somewhere.  There's no city storm drain system.

I've got a friend who's a CPA.  He was once asked to do an audit on that town's finances.  He knew money was disappearing, but he said he couldn't figure out where it was going.

If we follow the instructions at the top of the forum, we will copy the "direct" link instead of the "IMG" link. Then we may copy it in the "insert / edit image box to post the photo. Peopel will not see in your Photobucket account this way.

Will photobucket work for uploading photos?

Absolutely!  Simply click on the photo you want to share in Photobucket and from the page that opens you will see in the upper right hand corner: "Share this photo".  In the list below it, click the one that says IMG.  That will copy the url and put it on your clipboard.  Then simply paste the clipboard (on my Mac that is "command v") and the url will appear where your curser is on the forum page (like this: {IMG} http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h259/slow_rr/SLOW_RR_III/Track%20Bare%20Mountain1w_zpsqkakws5f.jpg {/IMG}  I used different brackets).

When you submit your reply the photo will magically appear on the reply...  Like this:

How many times have you been overjoyed to discover them making preparations to begin digging up the street?

To be honest, I'm thrilled   The 200 yards at the end of my street, which is the only part that extends into the adjacent town, has been a nightmare for a couple of decades now since they last paved it.  It has no drainage, and ever since the last vacant lot, formerly a small woodland, was taken for a large house with a lawn some years back, the natural sponge of forest is gone and there is a huge puddle every time it rains.  That's seeped under the pavement and cracked with the frost, so the road looks like something from a third-world country.  It's not so bad on the mountain bike, but navigating the ruts and patches is difficult on the thin-tired road bike.  I even stray across the center line in my car to avoid the potholes on the shoulders of the roadway.

Today, they delivered the big concrete storm drain cylinders and some big drainage pipe.  It certainly looks like they're planning to do it right, anyway.  The next question is, how long will this take?

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
