Hi guys

Sorry I haven't been in for a while but unfortunately my elderly mother (nearly 90) decided to take a tumble and broke her hip. When she got out of the hospital her reduced mobility meant that someone had to look after her my sister (a state registered nurse) decided it was ME!!! It wasn't too bad because we have carer's come in to help with the things I couldn't do. Unfortunately my dear mother lives in " the sticks" no WiFi so I have been incommunicado for sometime but all is better now so we are back in the loop!

Jimmy so sorry for your loss prayers being said

Ulrich your problems start to ease and things get better for you.

Barry and Audrey keep getting better and hoping for a speedy recovery.

To all others hope you are all well but if prayers sent.

Just a quick question my wife and I are heading to New York next week and I hope to visit Train world in Brooklyn but which subway do I use from Grand Central?????

Regards to all

Brian

BigDaddy
I set out to buy a sheet of styrene today. The old yellow pages were better than the internet, where anything with the word plastic is a hit, with no description. I found a place in Baltimore that wanted to ship me a minimum of 2 - 4x8 sheets from Harrisburg for a mere $90 [plus the cost of the styrene].

I've heard on a train forum somewhere that places that make signs will sell you sheets of styrene.  If you have a sign place nearby, it might be worth a trip or a call to ask.  I've never tried that.  Years ago I did order sheet styrene from US Plastics (Rubbermaid) and it was pretty reasonable.  I still have some.

It seems after some investigation that Saturday is Emancipation Day, which is only celebrated in Washington, D.C.  Great, a holiday for bureaucrats.  Since Saturday is not a normal work day (do bureaucrats work any other days of the week, either?) the holiday will be celebrated on Friday, April 15th, so guess what?  Your taxes are not due until Monday, April 18th.  I said "your taxes" for a reason, because here in Massachusetts that's Patriots' Day, so my taxes don't have to be filed until next Tuesday.

Afternoon!

A slow day over here.I am still somewhat immobilized. My right arm is fairly useless right now. I can cope with doing a few things with my left hand, but MRRing is out of question today.

Jimmy - I am sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my dad 3 years ago coming Monday and I still miss him so much!

Audrey - hoping that Barry is continuing to improve.

Janie, only Coffee for me, please.

If the weather is nice, it's worthwhile to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.  Train World is quite a hike though.  You need to make your way to the F train, and the Ditmas Ave station.

Br Elias probably has that all modeled.

Afternoon folks!

Chloe, I could use a cup of decaf to calm me right now...

Sun is out full blast here in the Finger lakes Region of NYS!  YES!!!  By 12:30PM today the panels have already made 10.5kWh of power, and Solar noon isn't until righyt now (1:11pm), so today should be the best day of this year so far.  yesterday was a good one even though we had some cloudyness.  Still made 24+kWh.

I have been emailing some of my NMRA members to see if I can stop by their homes on Saturday to have them sign the petition.  Getting very tired of the ...... Petition!  It isn't my idea of fun in the hobby, but needs to get done for the membership.  I spent some time moving the concrete blocks left over from the old herb garden raised bed that was removed to turn into drivway last fall.  The paver out them all right on top of some hosta.  Figure I need to get them moved as the hostas should start coming up within the next week.  Especially if we get some warmer weather.  have a Troop Committee Meeting that I must attend tonight.  Also have to redo a printout of info on the MLK Sholarship Applicants sometime this weekend, and I am still waiting for the call from the Body Shop on the car.  Since my work is a quick less thajn a Day repair, they will "fit it in" when they have some time.... (sigh)  It would have been done last Friday, but i had promised my son I would watch the girls and he had no one else who could do that.

Prayers going out to: Jimmy, Ulrich, Barry and Audrey, and anyone else in need!  And, where are you Galaxy?!?

Whistling

Hi Gang,

Well it is almosr lunch time here.  Chloe, I would like my regular lunch, A double Denver with Home fries, gravy on the side, and a double RBF. Please and Thanks.

Boy, our prayer list has certainly got very long again.  GARRY, I hope the Chapel car is polished up and ready to go, send it east on the next flyer.

Brian,   Glad to hear that your Mom has progressed enough in her healing to free up a little time for you.  Hope that continues.

Jimmy,   My sincere condolences to you and your family on the loss of your Grandmother. What has been said is true, the pain fades gradually over time and you are left with the fondest memories.

Barry & Audrey,     Our prayers continue for a quick resolution to this problem.

YGW,    Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you look toward that procedure tomorrow. Listen to the Sawbones & Nurses and do what you are told..

Ulrich,   Our Good Buddy,  we are pulling for you always. Hope all of these annoying problems finally get out of your life .  Our best to Petra as well.

Br. Elias,  So glad your procedure went well and you got back home quickly.

Cuda Ken,  I also hope that you and your Wife can get on top of those health issues plaguing you at this time too.

Phil (Flip),   Come on join in, we haven't heard from you in quite awhile.  I hope Florida is still above sea level.  Smile, Wink & Grin

I have a couple of days off now although tomorrow will be tied up with some Church work and then I have to work the week end. Then I have about 10 days off and we'll use some of that time to Visit our youngest Son in the Billings area of Montana, as I have mentioned many times before. It will be a nice spring break.

I have three orders coming to his address from Micro Mark, M.B. Klien, and Factory Direct Trains that I will dive into when we arrive.  Some good prices and some free shipping to Stateside addresses. Even with the difference in the money it saves me quite a bit. But that will be the end of the train funds for awhile. But, will also keep me busy for some time as well.

Hope you all break out of this funny winter/spring slump we all have been in and it starts to smarten up and really get in to growing season for the year. Last Monday morning going to work the temp was -7c, Tuesday coming home from work it was close to +20c.  You never know what kind of a coat or jacket you should wear. The temp is all over the place.

Prayers and blessings to all in need. Still keeping YGW's SIL and nephews in out thoughts and prayers.

BTW><  Not to leave you out Mr. Otte,  (Steven, if I may), I hope you have chased that cold out of your house and are feeling better as well. I want you to know how much I appreciate you stepping in to the Forum every now and then and being part of the Gang here.  It just feels right and I think all of us appreciate Kalmbach's sponsorship of these Forums.  Thanks much to you and all the staff.

 Afternoon Dinners

Flo, Beer and a Cardiology Dr Please.

Stress Test, there was none! Seems I get to join the Bumb Ticker Club! Sigh I was given a EKG before the stress test, it looked like a Game Of Pong. Heart beat was all over the place, I think it was because of lack of Coffee my self. I was rushed down to the ER and the EKG had changed again!

They ran some test and my Pluse Oximetry was 96%, (Oxgen in the blood) it had been 98% for a long time. My blood pressuer was OK at 145/72, but they found my blood was to thick and had to many Red Blood Cell's. They say I have borderline Polycythemia and wanted to keep me over night.

Reason I did not stay? I had the only driveable car (well by my wife standerds) and Sue had no money to go on. So I have given her two blank checks (That a lone could cause a heart attack). Daughter took Friday off and is taking me to Hosptial Friday to get addmited. Not sure how long I will be there and when or if I get out.

YGW Good chances I will be given you a call so you can keep the dinner up dated if things go well for you.

Jimmy I am sorry for your loss as well.

Gary Think you need to add some seats to the Chaple Car

Flo When was the dinner last inspected by the board of health? Everyone here seems to have Heart Problems or other health problems!

More than likely I will not be back for 3 to 4 days, Ken

Ken:  Prayers and good thoughts from College Station.  I was going to ask you if you pass a stress test, or you fail a stress test; which is better?  Regardless, be strong, get better.

Jimmy:  Condolences for your loss.

Ulrich:  Keep getting stronger...

Audrey:  Thanks for the update on Barry; tell him to keep improving...

YGW:  Positive thoughts for the heart procedure. Thumbs up!

Steve:  Good to see you posting without having to reign us in...

Reporting to the sick bay - again!

No improvement - I still can hardly move around. Too much pain in my joints, the right shoulder nearly frozen.

Awkward, to say the least!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 special today and a pot of.....  Hmmmmm...  You know that Berkley Shark Bite I had the other day was quite good.  Make that for me and bring over my R&GV RR Mug.  Thank you Ma'am!

Wow!  The list on sick call just keeps growing around here!  YGW, Ken, Barry, and Ulrich and I'm sure I forgot a couple people ailing!  And, where is Galaxy?  My prayers for all of you!

My day actually has started pretty good today....  I rolled over and looked at the alarm clock about 7:15 and about the same time felt a big "THUMP" on the other side of the bed.  Manét jumped up on the bed all by himself.  he doesn't do that very often after the episode with diabettes.  I shut of the CPAP and rolled over where he was.  He snuggled up rioght next to me and purred...  We cuddled for about 45 minutes, and then I needed to get up to give Blackie his insulin.

Yesterday the president of the MLK Committee accepted a "late" application for the scholarship (legit excuse) and this morning I got an email with the kids photo and his "resume".  I read the resume....  All I can say is "Holy Crap!"  This kid is amazing!!!  Among many other things the kid spent last summer at Cornell University and the University of Maryland learning Cloud Computing for large data systems.  He is NHS, captain of two high school sports teams, Principals list for having a 95 to 100 grade average every year through Middle School and high School, and I haven't even scratched the surface!  He is a native speaker of French, Spanish, and English...  Also is a concert pianist who has studied since the age of 4!  He intends to become a molecular biologist! WOW!

I confirmed that one of my Division members who is a Model Kit Manufacturer will meet me in Canandaigua this afternoon to sign the petition, and I will be heading over to the florist in a bit to buy one long stem red rose to lay at the headstone of my wife's grave this afternoon....  I think I may make it through the day after all....

Have a great day out there!

Howmus You've mentioned the petition several times, what is if for.  Like you I am going to miss a bunch of people if I try to mention everyone going through difficult times.

Ken sounds like just a tune up, nothing to fear.  Leaches will take care of too much blood.  They still have medical leaches, they use them in reconstructive surgery.  You won't be seeing any.

Ulrich You have a puzzling batch of symptoms.  I have a bad shoulder and 3 times I babyed it and 3 times I lost range of motion that took months to get back.  That said, it is amazing to me that it can be too painful to lift a cup of coffee.

Styrene I forget who asked, but they were paranoid about dirty finger prints.  I guess the sign guys don't like it.  The asked me if I wanted a 50" x 90" sheet instead and brought out a stack of sheets via a fork lift with 8 foot forks.  Although it was a clean warehouse, I guess it's easy to pick up dirt on ones hands.

Howmus You've mentioned the petition several times, what is if for. Like you I am going to miss a bunch of people if I try to mention everyone going through difficult times.

The petition is for my Division to move to a different Region.  Won't go into details, but it has to do with the border crossing between the US and Canada, some problems of financial things, and other stuff being here in the US but incorporated in Canada.  It was actually brought up (this time) by the Region.  We feel the division will be better served by being in a US Region.  Has nothing to do with any friction and dislike of us or them....  The folks in Canada are great modelers and fine people (just like my division)!  Totally about logistics and how to best serve the membership.  It has taken up way too much time to get done...

I was going to mention that yesterday was the best day of the year so far for making electric!  The panels churned out 27.72kWh yesterday.  That is excellent and we haven't even gotten to the Equinox yet.....  Today should be about as good as they are calling for sunny skies.  Since the heat is not running nor the air conditioner on, I probably used only about 12 or so kWh yesterday.  So, yesterday was great!

Later!

Mr. B what is Patriots day ? Sounds AWESOME

"By the rude bridge that arched the flood,

Their flag to April's breeze unfurled,

Where once the embattled farmers stood

And fired the shot heard 'round the world."

April 18th is the anniversary of the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere, and the 19th marks the first skirmishes of the Revolutionary War.  This, of course, took place in Lexington and Concord, MA, and some of the marching, at least, went through my home town of Bedford which is sandwiched between them.  The whole state has the day off (along with Maine) but right here is the focus of the activities, with battles staged between "re-enactors" dressed as Minutemen and British soldiers.

It's also the day chosen to run the Boston Marathon.

One day several years ago, there was a gathering for a parade, and the school grounds were full of "soldiers" with muskets, along with little girls in blue uniforms playing soccer.  Smoking is not allowed on school grounds, and I got to scold a "soldier" and make him put out his cigarette.

He was a British Regular.  The spirit of revolution lives on.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Good day all,

I managed to get a quick walk along the Susquehanna River in before going to work today. Upon getting home, the cat and I took a brief nap. The NCE PowerCab works great. I've used it to play with CVs and try and quiet down the volume on a couple locos. Plus, tried consisting a pair of BLI K4s, and despite the models having different decoders (one's Paragon2, the other Quantum) they synced up nicely. Last night after work, the model building bug bit and I took out the stoker details on the Sunset K4s tender I'm slowly adapting to use with a BLI K4s. I took the detail out so the wiring for the sound decoder between loco and tender could pass through.

Just need to adapt the BLI tender trucks, easy, add the sound decoder, and speakers, then take it apart to paint. Looking forward to a model of 1361, I built instead of bought.
