Evening Dinners
Flo, please. If my wife comes in stall her till I hide behind the Rivet Counter.
Work Stunk again today, but that is normal this time of year.
Been playing with the Rail Road for about 2 hours now, been the best part of the day!
yougottawantaWhat trains were you running B&O ?
YGW Yep, for some reason I am hooked on them for now. Before that Monon, when I started Santa Fe. Was into Rio Grand for some time, they are pretty!

yougottawanta Garry - Thanks for the prayers. Is the lake 10' higher due to tide or rainfall ? YGW
Garry - Thanks for the prayers. Is the lake 10' higher due to tide or rainfall ?
YGW
YGW ... Rainfall is the answer. Inland lakes do not have tides. This region of the country had heavy rains during days near Christmas.... We are on one of two large man made lakes in western KY. Between them is a National Recreation Area called Land Between the Lakes. ... You may read about it at LBL.org ... The TVA is estimating we will have high water by January 7 which will be about 15' higher than the norm in the Winter. (In Summer, water level is usually about 5' higher than in winter.)
Ulrich .... Praying all goes well for you..... The Lego engine looks fun.
Everybody ...Do you have plans for your model railroad in 2016 ?

I went to bed nearly an hour ago, but could not yet get to sleep. I am all edgy about tomorrow. I know I am not going to like the place - bad food, unfriendly staff, odd company.
Galaxy - it´s "Gute Reise"
Ulrich,
Moh says 'gutten reisen' not sure of the spelling?
Well tonight we bring cud cuds over there should be enough of our stuff here he will adapt quickly.

Ulrich - Hope rehab goes well. Enjoyed the wayside video - very nice
Ken - LOL Saturn V ? What trains were you running B&O ?
Galaxy - Love Patrick Henry - did you know he was a Pastor/Preacher ?
Blown out cylinder - LOL hiding !
Mister B. - How would you fit the "puter" as Galaxy sometimes says on the ski's anyway ?
Jim - If you want help with the subscrition so you can stay on here I will chip in .
John - PM is answered!
If my memory does not deceive me it reads "Happy may the new year be". Regarding SCARM, there are a few helpful tutorials on Youtube, which helped me to get started. I find SCARM rather easy to learn, but there are, as with other programs, a few nitty-gritties which seem to be illogical.
I did the design work for my current layout project with SCARM. Here is the latest 3D rendition
All of the structures are designed by myself, which was a little tricky, as SCARM is not a full 3D tool. You have to design structures in a 2D mode and at info on height and position above "ground" to it. Took me some time to get that right. The trees are to be found in the SCARM library.
Slowly heading for the hay - it´ll be an early start tomorrow.
I hope to see you all soon!
Hello Diners - and "Felix sit annus novus" as they may have said in the Roman Empire. BTW have you ever thought what our world might be like now if the Romans had taken Hero of Alexandria's steam turbine seriously?
Sir MadogA couple of hours ago it started to sn*w here and we already have about 2" of that white n´ wet stuff. I am just glad I´ll be taking the train tomorrow!
Have a safe trip Ulrich, let's hope ther eis WiFiand that your 3 weeks turn the tide. Thanks also for moving the Diner along. I've PM'd you re Petra's brother.
CapeJim! Great to see you again - I've only just come in from the cold myself. I see you are on Flip's email list - groaning jokes and all!!
A quiet New Year's celebration here - and I'm now on the SCARM learning curve. If I'm not in too often in the next while, THAT will probably be why.
Sounds like dinner is being prepared upstairs - a chickeney thing with some of the squash from the garden we made last year. Dessert is waffles, strawberries and icecream. I'd beter go see what's to be done.

Found another nice Lego loco built:
The builder attached bespoke etched brass plates, making it look a lot more realistic. There are also much better looking side rods & other steam gear available, but he wanted to stay within what Lego offers.
One day I am going to build one of those!
Edit: I was just submitting a rather nasty reply to the "DCC is dead" thread, when the mods must have removed it. Aw shucks!
2nd edit: I just found a suitable passenger car for the loco!
I'll be going north to ski in a few hours. My wife's bringing her laptop, but I don't have one (one computer is enough for me) so I'll probably just stay unplugged for a few days.
So, keep the tracks clear while I'm gone and best wishes for everyone.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Good morning ....
We arrived home from our trip late last night. Weather was good on travel days, but there was some snow while we were there. My truck is now coated with ugly Michigan road salt. ... ... Looking at our lake now, and it is about 10' higher than normal winter levels.
JimCG ... Good to see you. Please visit in the Diner more often.
Ulrich ... Praying your recovery from surgery continues to do well.
YGW... Continued prayers for your SIL, Kelly.
I'll review everybody's posts later today. I hope everyone includes model railroading in their new years resolutions.
Have a great Sunday !
Ulrich: Love that video--neat!!!
Good Morning
Now the weatherguessers have a snowsquall warning in effect for us...we'll see. High of 30..tomorrow high of 14...
I'se hiding in my trainroom today...all the honey do/gotta buys were done yesterday...
Ulrich: Hope things work out there for you. Take care!!

Good Afternoon Folks!
Well, I am all set for tomorrow´s trip. The bag is packed - all I need to add is this laptop computer! I am not sure whether I will be able to connect to the Internet, I just hope they have WiFi resources available for the "inmates".
I´ll be taking an early train out and will arrive just past lunchtime. It´s a 4 1/2 hr. trip by train - driving would only be 2 hrs. I don´t think Petra will come and visit me - the road conditions won´t be good at this time of the year and she does not like long drives. We will see...
Temperature has dropped below freezing and there are some sn*w flurries coming down. I bet everything will be white by next morning! I have ordered a taxi cab to pick me up at 7.45am and take me to the train station. It´s a little over a mile to get there, but I won´t be taking any chances by either walking there or have Petra driving me.
I found a video on an interesting "model railroad" in the UK:
Cute, isn´t it?
CU all in good health when I am back (or connected .... )

9 hours since Jim in Cape Giardeau?? GOOD to know he is fine..the national news kept focusing on his town!
GM, MEN!
I had another migraine yesterday. I wonder if hte bad headaches, the near migraines, hte migraines of late are caused by the herniated disc in my neck. It is pressing hte nerve to the rihgt arm by 35%. Surgery is what hte neurosugeon is leaning towards,,,,because of hte weakness showing up in it. PT is NOT helping much, but feels good, but i wonder if the "let down" form the traction is causing more headaces than not?
Ulrich won't be wiht us maybe for 3 weeks. Wish him well, if he can geet this.
todays word:
OH, BOY! I got the first second page tippy-top of 2016! Eat up everyone, breakfast is on me!
Evening, and Happy New Year, Chloe - I'll have a go cup of hot chocolate, please.
My apologies for dropping off the face of the earth (well, only seemed like it). This past year, I had changed agencies (now in a group counseling practice, and the pay structure varies a bunch more, including because many insurance companies are s-l-o-w-w-w to pay). So a chance to also work a temp job that was $8/hour (but full-time for two months - Nov., Dec.) to help replentish my IRA Roth account (which has been my supplement for Social Insecurity) sounded helpful. My stress level, however, was down because I'm doing much more stuff where I feel like I'm making a difference (in most cases, I'm not perfect...). I have dropped my weight back to within 10 lbs. of where I was back 25 years ago (that's good). I used an app that helps me track what I'm eating during the day - which helps me adjust my eating habits during/later in the day & not totally pig out.
I got an email from Flip checking if I had got washed into the Muddy Mississippi, so I figured I should check in for the rest of any Diners who know me and might've been wondering also. We have been getting a lot of rain, but fortunately, I live about 3-4 miles from the river, with 3-4 hills between the river and my apartment building.
Things with daughter, son-in-law & the 2 grandsons are improving some, and we just did our gift exchange last week for Christmas. No train stuff, alas... But not lots of headway on the train/layout front, since I have been busy in afternoons/evenings seeing clients (usually appointments between 1-7 pm.). Actually, I'm looking to de-clutter my apartment and move to a 2-bedroom apartment, so I can have a better shot at some progress on the layout.
On Dec. 18th, I was coming home from seeing my insurance agent (changing companies for the car), and wound up with my car broadsided by another (on the passenger side); it was totalled, so now I have a rental car until the 7th, and am hoping to get the settlement check a day or so before that. And amazingly, I wasn't hurt in the accident (small skinned strip on my right leg just below my knee, and a minor bruise on left knee that didn't show up until couple of days after the accident.
Looks like some of you Diners have had your own difficulties (for yourselves and/or family/loved ones), also. for healing of those.
Take care of yourselves and loved ones, and may you get some worthwhile tonight and other nights this week.
Not sure if I'll be able to get in, as I'm needing to let the MR subscription go for now.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape G.
Flo, Beer Please
Work Sucked Rail Spikes, so that is covred!
Sue Front Hee, Hee, Hee, she getting around pretty good to tell me what she wants me to do! When I got home today, I did the dishes and put them up, did a load of laundry, walked Sparkie The Rocket Dog, washed out Sparkies food dish. Gave Sue her dinner in the bedroom and finally made it out to the train room / garage. While in it self, not a big deal. Yet I find it funny she can get out of bed and tell me to do something for her!
Any JMRI users here in the dinner? Seems I lost all of my engine roster stored in JMRI. (Engine numbers, road names and CV Values for the decoders) It was working fine in 2015, but last night, not a single engine was saved. I have not seen anything about the problem in the DCC fourm yet.
New B&O Bachmann engines.
GP-7 Great looking and running engine, cannot pull caboose about 9 cars max so far. Still very happy to have it.
GP-30 Looks OK and that is about it. Makes a hollow growling sound like the shell maybe lose. All so once in a while it will make a Spunking Sound, like maybe the flywheel is sliping. Need to figuer out how to get the shell off and see what is going on.
yougottawantaKen - Where are you ? Hope one of those New years rockets didt catch you by your coat tails and send you to outer space ? Happy new year to you too.
YGW No they where not firing off Saturn V rockets off here. Just been busy taking care of Sue and running trains.
Ulrich While you are recovering the next 3 weeks work hard but know your limits! Don't over do it like our lost friend Jeffery.
Galaxy Well, what is your first impression of being a new home owner? Are you going to post any pictures? We like to look.
See you all Sunday.
Hey all. The boys went home today. The boys and I built a ginger bread train, rode tractors, swung on the tire swing ...

RAY: you don't know my FIL, he alone "causes distress"....I cna tolerate him more than MOH, you put those two in hte smae room and the tension can be cut with a knife!
Well, we are off to spend more money on a new computer desk , The old one has served its purpose and time for a new one.
later
Good Afternoon.
I got the shopping done and the other basic buys that came along over the not-so-schmart phone...which, of course, konked my mmr budget, as per usual.
Monday morning I get to go to the doctors and find out what came out of some tests that I ended up with a few days ago
Well, off to the trainroom with me...catch you all later!!
Morning diners,
No YGW it's a song. I don't know the title or name, but I have a friend couple who plays it on the first day of the month.
I thought it would be nice to duplicate it on the forum.
Amtrak America, 1971-Present.
Morni.... Hmmmm... I see it is lunch time here in the diner!
Chloe, I'll have a Ruebin Sandwich with all the trimmings abnd a cup of hot chocolate to keep me happy.
Dark, gray, and gloomy outside here in the Finger lakes today. We actually have some white stuff on the ground that has lasted a couple days. Should get out and put some salt down where I scrapped the stuff off the portch and the driveway getting to the car yesterday. The solar panels tried to start up yesterday, but didn't get enough sun to even clear the white stuff off them. When the sun comes out in a couple days, they should clear themselves quickly. I am doing a bunch of odds and ends today. this afternoon I hope to start digitizing the old tape of the churches Bell Choir I did about 18 years ago for them. It does appear to work so it should just be an easy job. Just will tie me up for a couple days. Also have been down in the train room making some decisions on the bridge piers for the Girder Bridge. Will need to redo the one I just put in a bit to make it prototypical for it. Walls are straight up and down and I need to make the ends wider at the bottom on at least one side... I think I have a plan.
Galaxy, now be nice to your FIL. I'm sure he worries when he doesn't hear from you or can't get in touch... A Quote for you....
I am still trying to get some of the MLK members to come and take a bunch of Flyers to distribute.... Guess I'll send out another email.
Catch you all later.

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO
We'll get there sooner or later!
Galaxy - good to know you are now back among the "connected"!
My friend Lothar called a little while back, telling me he finished the rewiring job on my DC controller. I went over to his place to pick it up. It wasn´t really a pleasant wakl - it has turned icy cold and there is a good chance we will get the predicted sn*w during the night.
When I was home, I plugged the controller to the control panel, but it didn´t work There is no juice available on the rails. Either it´s the controller or the wiring of the blocks which is causing the problem. It´ll have to be sorted out when I am back.
Tomorrow will be packing day. I have to bring enough gear for a three week stay along with me, that´s going to be awfully big bag to tote along! If I had known of the need for three weeks in a rehab place earlier, I would have built something like this
to take along! Would have been nice to be able to run a train after the day´s chores!
YAY!
I am once again computerized via the laptop at the new house! The cable man was here to fix it.
After 2.5 hours ont he phone trying to get teh "easy consumer plug and play" to work, the tech was sent out. He got it all connected and up and running. HOO-ray! He was nice to boot, some are nasty and ugly aobut things....
good. Now the old hardwired computer can be brought here too, but first we buy a new comuter desk for it. Gee, you never justt buy a house! the laptop is wifi, but the old computer is not nad dont anyone tell me how easy it is to insert the wifi card into it! I have trouble just inserting a plug inot hte wall often!
so now I am happy!
what else? the electrician was supposed to work today but hes got his daughter this weekend, so he stopped buy for a parts list. then off to do things wiht his daughter so he couldn't work...tried to call us bu t the cable company disconnected out phone before being sure the phone owuld work on thier end! two days without hte phone! he FIL pain in the tukkus, stopped by unannounced ecause he panicked over NOT getting ahold of via phone...GRRr we HATE whne he stops by unannounced nad now we live closer to him. We could be, er um, "engaged" with each other, or generally entertaining others, or wanting to be alone and not disturbed! NAd he just drops by. WE HATE that! one of these days hes not gonna like hte way I'll answer the door for hhim, but I cna't tell you aobut it here.....
now I gotta get reuse ot the latop, being without it for over amonth.
well, gotta go chek LOTS of emails, only checked the most important ones via cell phone.
Dull and drab this morning. with little tiny snowflurries abouts. High going all the way to26 today.
Got to do some gotta buy stuff today, then I might get to run some trains later.
Have a good'un!!!
Today's word:
today's quotes:
You have not converted a man because you have silenced him. -John Morley, statesman and writer (24 Dec 1838-1923)
The greatest way to live with honor in this world is to be what we pretend to be.
Not life, but good life, is to be chiefly valued.
I only wish that ordinary people had an unlimited capacity for doing harm; then they might have an unlimited power for doing good.
Good Morning!
The Diner´s a quiet place! I guess everyone´s just recovering from yesterday´s celebration ...
yougottawantaUlrich - Here is a Angel for your BIL. I hope you recieve good news. You are going into a rehab center ? When ? Will we be able to communicate with you ?
I´ll be going to the rehab place on Monday for a scheduled 3 weeks´ stay. The clinic is in Bad Driburg, a rather uninspiring town, which has a nice model railroad exhibition, so there will be some entertainment. I´ll be taking my laptop computer with me, but I am not sure whether I´ll be able to connect to anything. Time will tell.
CU later

Recap SIL story as requested by Galaxy
SIL car was vandalized, three thugs beat the crud out of her, set her town house on fire. She has brain damage, two broken ribs, punctured lungs, third degree burns on her back side/legs, broken wrist which required operations with plates and screws to piece it back together, she has also had operations on the burns and "donor" grafts used. Early on she had a brain bleed that seems to be under control. She was in ICU for three weeks and then down graded to lower level icu just this week. The police have at least one bad guy in custody and there has been a homocide investigation opened up. Her boys are ages 6 & 8 years old. Thye lost everything in the fire just like their mother did.
I have finished the study except for the built in book case. The walls and trim are painted. The book case has been sanded, puttied and caulked. MOH is going to pickup primer and more paint so I can wrap that up tomorrow. PHEW that room was a LOT of work. AT least five days or removing cheap trim, reinstalling nice trim, prep, putty, wall point up, sand, prime, paint the ceiling, semigloss the trim, paint the wall ( three stinking coats ) and then final touch up.
Where are we on this ride ?
It was a quiet evening for Petra and me. We usually don´t go out anymore - just can´t afford it. we listened to some good (classic) music, indulged in fond memories, shed a few tears about the loved ones we have lost - and went to bed at about 10pm. I woke up shortly before midnight and watched the fireworks while listening to Händel´s Music for the Royal Fireworks and went back to bed after that, finding Petra happily snoring away The noise didn´t wake her up.
Today has also been a quiet day. We are very much worried about BIL Holger. So far, we have not got any news, which hopefully may be good. We are both prepared to drive down to Petra´s hometown, which is a 5 hours´ drive down south. I have to be back on Monday to start my stay at the rehab clinic, though.
We went to spend New Years eve with clsoe frineds, like family. It was a nice quiet evening with dinner, champagne and Godiva chocolates! A good movie rounded out the evening while we waited for NY's MIdnight and the NYC ball to drop and 2016 to arrive.
I texted the NYC train nut friend at midnight, too. The otehr trian nut friend wasn't sure they'd be awake or home at midnight or I'd have called him too.
Overal a nice way to bring in t he NY!
I WISH ALL a Healthy, Happy and prosperous New YEar for the year of 2016!
Sooner than we think ti will be 2017!
SO, tell us , how was YOUR NY's eve????
Happy New Year!
Did they give the fresh meat to Brother Lion so he could gnaw on the gnu?
