What is PIP ?

PiP (Capitol P little i and Capitol P) is an Acronym for Plug In Prius.  Sometimes I can run in EV (Electric Vehicle) and sometimes I use the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine).   All very common Geek Speak out in the world of Green vehicles... Smile, Wink & GrinLaugh

Well, the PiP passed inspection.  I really worry about the emissions test... NOT.  It doesn't get one being an PHEV (Plugin Hybred Electric Vehicle).  I did find out that one tire is barely legal....  Will be looking into getting a new set soon.  There is a site online that has recomendations on which tires will give me the best balance between traction and efficiency.  I'll take that info and head downtown to a local tire store for them (I know the owner and the manager of the store and like to give them my business).

I was just waiting for the PiP to come off the charger when there was a monster whiteout going on outside (LES - Lake Effect Snow).  Looking out the dealership windows you couldn't see the cars across the driveway!  I put my coat on and walked out to the service booth.  The advisor looked at me laughed and said, think we should unplug you?  The snow had just let up, I nodded my head and backed it out of the plugin bay.  The roads were a real mess.  We got a little over an inch of snow in less than 10 minutes and what cars had been over the roads just turned it into a glare of ice.  I not only had little traction but little braking either.  I took things real easy and made it over to my sisters house.  She wasn't there, so I left the box she needed between her doors and headed out.  Decided to take my usual route home.  Lots of tracks going off the road, across the otherside and then back across the road...  No cars in the ditch.  Even people who live here don't know how to drive in the stuff.  I was followed by a pair of School Busses who were being followed by a line of cars in a hurry...  I had no trouble and neither did the busses who stayed a ways back like they should.  Got all the way to Geneva (16+ miles) and turned onto Pre-emption Rd. and both lanes are filled and running very slow.  some big ol' SUV done runned across the highway and got nailed by a pick'em up truck...  Niether one of them was going to go anywhere on their own....  I got around them when my turn came and pulled all the way over so an emergency vehicle (probably fireman) could have the middle of the road to get to the accident.  As I got out of the PiP at home (less than a mile away) I could hear sahreeeewns blaring good and loud.....  Hopefully all the people in the accident are alright.

PiP is charging outside at the moment.  Made it Canandaigua and back and only lost one mpg for this tank.  It says I am getting 79mpg at the moment, was 80 when I left home.

OK, dealt with a pile of emails, fed the kitties, made a reply here.  Now I'm going to see what is going on down cellar on the SLOW.

Later!

Well the news got worse! I have STREP on top of pneumonia! I came back positive for strep throat. Which explain s why it is so dryand scratch y.

I guess maybe tomorrow I go home?

YGW: there are 3 hospital s in this area that complete for " best food " . so they offer ala carte of aselect per diet menu, offer to deliver at odd times if you arrive odd. Etc. Then they usually have sandwiches in the floor for late night snacks too.

I finally get my real shower and cough drops. Too.

YGW: PIP is RAYs loving name for hisPlug In Prius! Proud papa he is!

Well off to better things like water and saop.

V8Vega
but this was only a mile from me and at a intersection I travel often.

- that is altogether too close to home Dennis! Glad you're safe.  Pot luck is pretty much always good - whatever the reason!

Speaking of food, we had small taco bowls for the guaquamole, sour cream and salsa to accompany lightly broiled basa filets last night - it was so good that, since we have one more avacado left, we're going to repeat the mix with a shrimp stir fry! Dinner
YGW
DER - What is the goal for your layout ?
I'd like to have continuous running and some switching. With an interchange track by means of which trains can be added or removed, I wouldn't need to make up or break down trains - besides, I don't know enough about the "proper" way that's done to provide the necessary trackage. I found on the last layout that trying to figure out the order in which a train had to be made up became very like w*rk; and someone is reputed to have said "Model Railroading is fun"!  For the switching, I removed from my last layout my version of (John Allen's?) "Timesaver" That's 4'4" track length + approach track - which had been on a grade but doesn't have to be. I reckon that if I use doors for a baseboard, covered with 1" foam. my saved scenery will just fit right in! So, there's my general goals: Fun, not w*rk; continuous running; did I mention passenger and frieght, so probably a station or two; switching including the Timesaver and its associated industries. Scale is N = Normal; Era = I have some diesels, but not much else by way of rolling stock left (sold off much when I dropped out)  Hope that answers the question - your thoughts andlayout ideas welcome.

Well I spoke too soon, it is changing from balmy to a mind numbing windchill of -40 for tomorrow morning which is the same number in C or F. As luck would have it my wife has a doctor appointment in the morning.

I will be happy to share,

CN Charlie We are beginning to get some of that chill - but nothing like THAT ...yet!

Ken I'm feeling a bit as you must re BoS. My car insurrance company has begun to give me the run-around about our daughter who drives a car we bought for her but which is in our name (to protect her from any attempts to defraud her by various wierdos of her acquaintance) Anyway, she was in a fender-bender last February and the other driver reported it to their insurance- but no claimm was generated. In all of that, it turns out that my insurrance were going to cancell her covereage without telling either her or me! I only found out by phoning about another matter! Can't wait for the customer satisfaction survey which any call to them seems to generate!!!

YGW

Galaxy - Cardio diet is not a diet - THAT diet = starvation ! I had a heart episode and spent a week in ICU many years ago. I tell you the cardio diet rations was = to starvation ! How can they expect one to survive on that ?
Sounds like what happened to me when I was first diagnosed with diabetes back in the early 80s. The "Diabetes Education Clinic" to which I was sent put me on (what Ray so aptly refers to as) THE DIET with zero regard to either my metabolism rate (high) or my body type (slight). So since in their eyes diabetic = overwieght and needs exercise; I was put on a regimen which before long required medical intervention to prevent complications of malnutrition! Not a pretty sight (but then when was I ever? LOL)

On Powerball - that's run up to a crazy amount. Why not just create 1300 new milionaires with 1M each - there's surely over that number of tickets sold! Anyway angelb6660 the best of luck with that.

Spurred on by uncovering that section of track, I think I'll go and see what else I have in storage left over from the sale....may drop in later.

Afternoon Diners,

I received my BLI NYC boxcar yesterday and I wrote to the company on why the boxcar and the box that it was in was wrong. They told me that they changed the numbers during the production and forgot to change them on the boxes.

Today I bought a powerball ticket for tomorrow that might be worth something or nothing.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I need a pot of Seneca Lake Dark Roast Coffee to keep my R&GV RR Mug filled for a while and a couole of those frosting filled chocolate covered donuts...  whatever they are called...

Galaxy and others.... the conversation about the diets in the horspiddles reminds me of when my Mother was in assisted living.  Every once in a while she would fall in her apartment and be taken to the hospital as a precaution.  Once there the doc on duty would see that she was an insulin dependent diabetic and write an order for "THE DIET"!  Then a day later when she came back to the Assisted Living facility she would be accompanied by the order for "THE DIET".  She wouldn't notice anything for a few days until they had........  PIE for dessert.  Everyone else at her table would get pie and she would be given a piece of ground up sawdust and cardboard with no taste and they called it.....  "A Cookie!"  She would immediately throw a major hissy fit and loudly announce she wanted PIE!!!!  The poor girls in the dining hall who have to follow the Doctors ORDER would try and try to explain why she had to have a "Cookie" while everyone else got PIE!  That only made Mom more angry, disagreeable and much louder!  This would go on a few times and Mom would not remember to tell us when we visited until finally in despairation the "powers that be" would contact us.  We would tell them to just give her pie and that she is 86 years old...  Who Cares!  Of course legally that doesn't work, so off we go over to her regular Doctor who says, "What?  Who the heck cares if she has a piece of pie?"  He then writes a rescinding order stating "No diet restrictions!" that we hand deliver to "The Powers That Be" at the living center with private orders to let us know every time the idiot doctor at the Horsepiddle writes another diet limiting food order for a very old demented lady that happens to be our Mother.  This got repeated every couple of months for 4 years.  After she broke her hip and fell,  (most likely in that order.) she ended up in the County Nursing Home.  We mentioned that to the Doctor there and he made sure that Mom could eat anything she wanted!  Period!

Today I get to take the PiP in for its 35,000 mile service (which consists of rotating the tires).  They also will do the NYS Inspection while it is there which consists of checking the tires, looking at one of the brake pads (on the PiP brakes tend to go bad at, oh...  About 150,000 miles), making sure all the LED lights still work, and....  Ah, well, that is it for a PiP.  No emissions tests as it is a PHEV so they don't have to do that.  I will have them fill up the battery for free while I'm there as well. Smile, Wink & Grin

I also have to drop off a bunch of checks for the MLK Scholarship at a bank in Canandaigua when I drive through and have a bunch of other things to get done today.  Guess I better go get some of those things done.  Catch you all Later!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, BeerPlease

Very Mixed Day today! First mess up, I left the interior lights on in my car over night. Dead as a door nail, so I was 10 mintues late to work. Was sort of busy and had a OK day in sales. Would have been a good day, but Paul would not approve a offer on a King Matt, it was $50.00 to low so she would not pay the extra $50.00.

Between customers and still doing the year end inventory I messed up! Bang Head Had a late customer in at 7:30 PM and he did buy! I forgot to send in my store order! Bang Head Had the dang thing done, just forgot to fax it! Whistling I will be going in early Tuesday so I can get a order.

Evenin' Folks!

Janie, just need a cup of decaf to warm me up tonight.

Been an interesting day today.... I called Staples late this afternoon to see if the Banner had arrived.  After waiting about 5 minutes on hold listening to some nice piano music in one ear...  I fianlly got someone whom I told what I was inquiring about and he said he would connect me to that department...  That was interesting because I pumched in the number when I first called for that department.  Fianlly the young lady I had placed the order with last week asnswered and said, yes the banner came in Friday.  She said she sent me an email>>>  I din't get an email from them.  Oh well, I went over and picked it up.  Earlier I took the kitties to the Vet to have their blood sugar checked.  Manét was at 84!!!  That is quite low.  The Vet is convinced he is now in remission which they now know happens to as much as 67% of older cats with Diabettes.  I go home and take Blackie (after trying to find him for a while).  He was hiding in a playhouse I built for them years ago and that I can't get him out of...  Get him over there and his sugar is 118!  That is also a bit lower than they would like, but not as bad as Manét.  So Manét is now off the insulin and Blackie will only get 1/3rd of what he is getting now.  In Two weeks I will take them over again to have them checked...  Never a dull moment!

Hope that Galaxy gets to make a break tomorrow (and is feeling a lot better!).

Catch you all in the morning!

Good evening, diners.  Winter has finally settled in and the forecast is for measurable snow tomorrow and Wednesday.

Worked on kerfing some more Homosote road bed for another section of curved track.  It is a time consuming process as I use a small hand saw to cut the kerfs needed to bend the track into a 26 inch diameter curve radius.

Galaxy, hope you are better soon and able to go home.

Howmus, do you have your snow shovel ready?  Sounds like you will see lots of snow the next couple of days.

CN Charlie, thanks for sending the cold weather this way.

Today I am replacing all of the smoke detectors in our house. They are hard-wired smoke detectors and one failed. I could not replace only one as the model is no longer manufactured. I needed to replace all of the smoke detectors so that they will continue to work together. In looking for a replacement, I learned that smoke detectors are to be replaced every ten years. Ours are fifteen years old so it was time to replace all of them anyway.

Frank .... I appreciate your advice and comments in recent weeks while I work on truck models. I have plenty of other porjcts awiting me on the layout, and I don't know when I will get back to doing more truck models. It's been a lot of fun. The White tractor and livestock trailer came out well in my opinion.

The electrician was supposed to work at the house but will stop by tonight instead.

Moh will be back about 4.

So I won't be lonely this afternoon evening.

I don't think they will let me have any kirschtorta of any kind! I am on cardio healthy heart diet. Didn't want tonight's dinner special, so I weaseled a cheeseburger outta them. Not with fries though... Baked potato!

G I'm guessing the Swiss cheese is cardio healthy in their eyes as the holes have zero fat? Whistling

YGW Sorry to hear about further health complications in your family. Angel

I cant tell you the last time MOH let me eat a potato or a cheesburger - all salads , yogurt carboard, sawdust....
How are you for fish? We've had good eating from getting more fish in our diet; without troubles at the (weight) scales.
Der -  Show us some of your design
OK, so here's the thing. I liked the look of the Nathans Pass N Scale layout on the SCARM website as I figured I can bash it. Here's what that looks like:

What I saw about this layout was that if I ignored the elevations, the thing was like two bladesof a scissors hinged on the right hand side at the junction of the sets of double tracks. So, I used that thought to swing the blades open through 90 degrees, and shift the lower portion to the left so as to make the transiton curves work. All the while I'm learning how the SCARM program works, so the result isn't too pretty - but here it is:

I get independent continuous running of two trains - but the overall impression is BORING! So, I may just do more looking for other plans which i can adapt, or???? I need in any case ot provide an interchange track so that the layout is "conected to the outside world" - and the overall size needs to be nudged so that it will fit on two doors.

Ray That wind and rain passed through here early this morning and now by early afternoon the sun is out and the "active ditch" along our southern boundary is flowing well within design parameters! We've had worse, and it was a real blessing that the temperatures precluded sn*w. Currently 50F out there.

Mornin' Frank, Mornin' Zoe...  Gee, the place looks like a hospital ward this morning, complete with IV bags....  Oh, They let Galaxy stop by...  I see.

I'll have my usual with a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee.  Huh?  No in my R&GV RR Mug not an IV Bag!  Sheesh!

Sun has been trying to shine around these parts this morning, but will turn to cloudiness this afternoon.  We will get a few sn*w flurries later, but less than an inch of accumulation.  On the other hand (YGW may like this) over in the Buffalo, NY area southeast of Lake Erie they will get in places up to 7 inches of Lake Effect today and this evening and lots of blowing of it around....  That is nothing...  Watertown, NY is scheduled to get up to 24" today and another 5" to 10" overnight and will have 50mph wind gusts.  Beautiful weather for the people who haven't been able to get out to the Mountains to Ski yet!  (snark...)

Waiting to hear from Staples about the Banner.  Have to take the kitties to the vet late this afternoon for a blood sugar check.  I also need to bundle up and dig out the end of the pipe that dumps water from my roof and sump pump out on the low side of my property just inside the limit where the city might say I can't do that. Laugh  Yesterday I figured out why I was getting water in the train room.  that 4" pipe seperated right at the end of the house where it joins the downspout and was dumping water right by the side of the house.  Probably came apart when they did the paving last fall and now the joint is not quite right.  I put it back together and will watch it for a while.  Likely will have to give Mr. Fussy the handiman a call to repair it...

Time get moving...

Frank: Are you looking in. I thought you might like seeing another truck model

Hi Garry,

Yes I saw the new truck on WPF....GREAT JOB! Been a little distracted from things due to My mis-hap with the roof...but it has been resolved....although not repaired yet...the roofer went up there and said I have nothing to worry about...the felt paper that was used (very thick) is holding soundly and the extra thick shingles that were used won't be hard at all to match....He also noticed that the prior roofers missed the tar strip when nailing some sections and that contributed to the problem. There are a couple other things, like reflashing the chimmney and such, but I can't beat the price...400.00..that includes materials...the shingles were for a 35yr. roof, so I know they are not cheap.

All My truck models that were in the construction faze are on hold. I'm concentrating My efforts on kit bashing three Walters cornerstone Merchants row structures (2, 3 and 4) that are for the backdrop section of the layout...that entails making a 5 1/2'' wide buildings, into 2 1/2'' wide. I already cut them to size...I am now adding interior and lights..so it can all be removable and that's taking some time....Maybe next WPF, I'll post a couple in progress pic's.

I still have to send Galaxy mail yet that I almost forgot about.

Take Care, All!Big Smile

Good morning .

Ken ... The photo of the Alcos being scrapped will bring tears to the eyes of Alco fans.

Galaxy .... Sounds like doctors are taking good care of you. Feel better soon.

YGW .... I Hope the rest of the year is much better.

I have this photo in WPF, but I'll post it here too. I just built the small dark green grain truck from a Sylvan Models kit. It is a 1937-1941 International.

Well GM men's.

With them coming in here every hour for something and the fact I'd normally be awake anyway at this time, so I am NOT getting much sleep!

I feel much better, been coughing up stuff and most importantly getting it out of my lungs could not before, I was drowning in fluid. The iv antibiotics worked well.

We will see today brings!

Hope it brings you guys more successes than failures.

More prosperity and no frugality.

More happiness than sadness.

H

Prayers for all in need

OK official diagnosis is: asthma, occluded left lung ( blocked) and localized pneumonia.

They may  want me to go home tomorrow but I will push for another day at least ,if not two.

I am piggyback on the local patient WiFi but still on my phone

They just came in to do a flu test and the vampire will be in 2 hours not much sleep at night here.

Guys I don't know how I rated a swisscheese burger! Not on the cardio heart healthy diet! It was dry like cardboard with cheese in it though, still better than the kumps of flour in thin sauce they called chicken and dumplings today for lunch! I patient apparently said well that ain't how my mommaade em. I said that ain't how I make them!!!! Lol.yukky. so maybe that was why I got the swiss burger!

Ate dinner and had 2 sandwiches one at 9:30 and one now since they got me up at 2 am. Ilost 18 lbs this week, 5.5 lbs in one day! The steroids made me hungry, just a roast beef and a ham Sammy. Breakfast is at about 730. Sounded good so I will see. Cinnamon french toast, I picked breakfast potatoes, oatmeal, and coffee and juice. We will see how it comes out

We goodnight and see you tomorrow.

Prayers for all that need them.

Ken - WAY TO GO !!! Good job being one up on sales.

YGW Sad thing is it does not matter that I can beat Jerry in sales. Jerry is her new pet! If I sold 2 times more than Jerry it would not matter to her! You have to remember Nancy did not want to fire Drunk Dave even after I had to have the Police to remove him from the store! Only reason Drunk Dave got canned is because my store was closed 2 days because he did not show up! Dave was her old pet, Jerry is the new one!

Nancy is one of the reasons this company is a Train Wreck.
