Thanks for the prayer and empathy. For those that pray and for more specific prayer here is more info.

My SIL first name is Kelly and her boys names are Bryce 6yrs old and Hunter 8 yrs old . She has : Punctured lungs, broken ribs, broken wrist, head trauma with brain bleed ( amost certain brain damage ), fluid in her lungs, breathing and feeding tubes inserted, 3rd degree burns on her back and top of her legs, she has already undergone surgeries to put plates in her wrist/arm, skin grafts with "foreign grafts" I assume that means donor grafts which they performed Friday. Yesterday they attempted a "swallow test" which if it had been succesful they could have moved her to lower emergency level. The test failed. She is still in ICU and the hospital will not allow her children to see her. Probably not a good idea either at this time.

MIL is looking into getting counseling for the boys. They are terribly upset. They have not been able to see there mom for over three weeks. The boys are scared their mom is dieing.

In regards to fund sites there hasnt been any set up that I am aware of. I trust Galaxy to handle that if everyone is inclined. Our church and MIL/FIL church is taking care of clothing and presents. I suspect that the doctor bills will be huge. She has been in ICU for sixteen days now.

I appreciate the out pouring and the kindness shown here. I posted so I could let off some of the pressure and let those that pray, pray for her and hers. That alone is huge help. My God says in James 5:16 "...effectual fervant prayer of a righteous man availeth much." Kelly and her family desperately need "fervant prayer"

Thank you so much for those prayers !

Lion - can I sit with you ? Flo can I have a cup of Joe ? Just want to sit here and be still for a while and nurse the coffee. Oh little cream and couple of those fake surgar things. Thanks

Garry, UP, Der, Ken, Ulrich....appreciate to your kindness.

Ken - dont give up. Renting you loose the tax deduct and every year rent goes up. That is not a long term solution.

YGW ... The Chapel Car is on its way to the Diner for those who need a quiet place for "fervent prayer" for Kelly. ....

Regarding donations, it sounds like YGW's church is doing things. I suspect cash donations for Kelly and her family there would be accepted by that church.

Lion ... That's a big breakfast. ... Barry (Blownout cylindar) has a lot of competition now.

Model railroading .... Yesterday, I completed my 1/87 White tractor to go with the livestock trailer.

Thanks, YGW for the update.

As it sounds like only clothing and presents have been handled,  and no other account set up, my offer to coordinate our efforts still stands.

No, we won't raise enougto pay all medical expenses, but money to help cover restart expenses or to support the kids would help.

I hate standing idly by expecting someone else to do something

Prayers will help her heal, but its the other needs that come up afterwards that need taking care of. I know been there, done that. More than once.

I feel fortunate to be where I am now compared to some of the places I have been in life!

So, my offer to coordinate still stands.

See my previous posts for what to do you're so inclined .

Make it a special day for someone!

Galaxy I don't know how to post pictures but a ad in Craigslist or eBay without a picture is a waste of time.

Someday I'll learn how to post pictures and then I have a bunch of stuff to try to sell.

I read people telling how to post pictures and to date no one has been able to explain it in easy to understand language.

Don't feel bad I couldn't figure how to post pictures on this web site either.

Morning diners,

Lately I was busy the past two days playing Star Wars Battlefront.

Railroading has slowed down for a bit. I was thinking about canceling my Model Railroader magazine and go into Trains next September. Probably it's just a phase that's happening.

My mom is having a terrible time with her daughter. Basically the same old stuff, nothing to do, bored and that 10 week old dog.

Good Afternoon!

Another quiet day here - just some "last minute" grocery shopping to get over the holidays. It was enough to make me really tired again. I did not feel like going for a walk today, as it is plain awkward outside - wet, nothing but wet!

There is a terribly nice smell coming from the kitchen, as Petra is starting to prepare the food for the holidays. She started out with this:

That´s a genuine Austrian "Linzer Torte" and I tell - it´s delicious! Tomorrow, she will start on the prep work for our Christmas dinner, which will be

 and

and for desert:

Anybody care to join us? Come on over, there is plenty!

YGW - I wish I could do something to help and ease the burden on your family, but all I am able to do is to include Kelly, the boys and all of your family in my prayers.

While searching the web for a page I had seen years ago, I came across a Lego page, showing Lego trains. Incredible, what people are able to do with those little bricks today!

There is a free Lego design tool available and I now have the plan, the instructions, and a parts list for this saved on my computer!

Here is a video of a similar loco:

Incredible!

Mornin'....  Well, ahem...  Afternoon folks!

Zoe, I did get out of bed and gave my kitties their insulin on time, but I have been just dragging around here trying to get myself in motion for the past 3 hours...  Did deal with 40 or 50 emails already.  Just need a refill on the dark roast coffee right now.  Another pot or two and I might wake up.

Galaxy, if you are able to get something going for YGW's SIL I will help out, but I can't until the first of the year....  Hope your move is going smoothly and you will be able to move the kittie cat to the new place before the poor thing really thinks it is being abandoned.....

Ulrich, what time is dinner served on Christmas?  I think you will be eating very well!  If I could I would be there with a bottle of Finger Lakes Riesling to add to the festivities!  I will be at my Son's house a couple times on Christmas though.  I go over for Breakfast when we exchange our gifts, and then come back over mid afternoon for the formal dinner and the family gathering of the Harrison Clan....

I will be spending today wrapping presents and finding out whom I need to do some last minute shooping for.....  There are still a couple things for the family I have not been able to find so I will have something to do tomorrow I'm sure...

My prayers going out to YGW and his whole family and all others who are in pain or sorrow at this time of year!

Good evening.

YGW, I was truly shocked to read about your poor SIL.  Prayers going our for her and her children.

Dennis, posting pictures is pretty easy after you figure out how to use something like one of the photo sharing sites liike photobucket.com.  Don't give up on trying to learn how.

Galaxy, how are you handling pledges?  You have a new address I assume so clue us in with a private message or e-mail or something if you would please.

Well, went for a nice walk this afternoon without a jacket on the first day of winter.  Lots of people were out walking, jogging and biking.

Seasons Greatings to all.  Wish I could taste some of Petra's wonderful looking dishes.

Whistling

GALAXY,  That is great to hear about the pledges.

C'Mon Gang, we have done others before but not in such a vary serious vain as this one.  What a horrible experience to have at any time, but especially at this time of the year and her two small boys trying to figure out whats with their Mom.  YGW. has had more that his share of problems to worry about this past year, I know that anything we can do towards helping his SIL and her boys will lessen a little of that for him and really show our colors that we care and are prepared to step up to the plate when we see someone in trouble.   It was amazing what we did for Jeff and Ulrich, lets see if we can top that.

Garry, good to see the Chapel car was ready for service, boy it has sure come in handy the past year.  I have a kit for a heavyweight observation car that Model Railroader put out as an anniversary car by Athearn. I think it is named for Kalmbach. I might just turn that into a Chapel car at some point for a distraction to other jobs that are always hanging fire.

My Son and DIL arrive from Montana late tomorrow evening.  It will be late as they can't leave until after work, then about a nine hour drive.  Looking forward to them being here if only for four days.

On the RR. front, I ballasted about ten feet of track this afternoon and will go back before bed here to paint the concrete under the Elevated station so that I can set it in place for the Christmas season, as I don't see much time for it until the end of the month now.  Maybe just run a few trains for friends and Sons.

I just finished with feeding the "beast" here, and must clean up my feeding tube and various other fixtures before I head back down to the LM&E, so I'll sign off for now.

Talk to you all tomorrow, before Santa comes.

Johnboy out.....................Ho Ho Ho.

GM, MEN!

Today's word:

pinchbeck

PRONUNCIATION:
(PINCH-bek) http://wordsmith.org/words/pinchbeck.mp3

MEANING:
adjective: Counterfeit or spurious.
noun: An alloy of zinc and copper, used as imitation gold in jewelry.

ETYMOLOGY:
After watchmaker Christopher Pinchbeck (1670-1732), who invented it. It’s ironic that today his name is a synonym for something counterfeit, but in his time his fame was worldwide, not only as the inventor of this curious alloy, but also as a maker of musical clocks and orreries. The composition of this gold-like alloy was a closely-guarded secret, but it didn’t prevent others from passing off articles as if made from this alloy... faking fake gold!

USAGE:

There had been something precious between them, like true gold among pinchbeck.”
Jo Beverley; The Secret Wedding; Signet; 2009.

Today's Quotes:

I've also seen that great men are often lonely. This is understandable, because they have built such high standards for themselves that they often feel alone. But that same loneliness is part of their ability to create. -Yousuf Karsh, portrait photographer (23 Dec 1908-2002)

Hi Guys,

I now have 6 pledges to help out SIL. I know shes not technically one of us, so there may be some resistance. But she IS a relatgive of one of our very OWN YGW!! And/But the horrible manner in which she came to the state I decided to start the pledges IS reason enough to do so. ESPECIALLY if no one else in her community seems to care about raising a fund for her!!!WE CAN DO IT!

PM me for my new address.

If you can't financially do it due to the holidays or so, I will collect at least til Jan 31, and probably to Feb 29th! If I know you are pledging, but can't send it immediately, like RAY {thank you!}, that is fine too. Just let me know your pledge and expected mailing! Even  I am making an effort though we just have spent a bundle buying  a house!

Thanks to ALL who ARE pledging!

If you can't PM me, try telling me here in the diner to PM you from myself and I will try to, to see if that works that way.

lets get in otthe giving holiday spirit and help out!

as C. S. Lewis says:

Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.

Miracles are a retelling in small letters of the very same story which is written across the whole world in letters too large for some of us to see.

Lets see if we can create a miracle for SIL!

Thnaks,

Morning all

Galaxy love the CS Lewis qoutes. Have you ever read his life ? Pretty incredible. The qoute " Has this world been so kind...." resonates with me. Not that I am ready to leave anytime soon. But the promise of what heaven is to be like is comforting. No pain, no heartache, no tears or sorrow...where the streets are paved with gold, gates of pearls etc...God has said it is so wonderful our minds cannot comprehend it.

Lion - thanks for letting me sit with you. Sometimes having a friend just sit and keep one company is nice.

Angel, Jim, Phil, Deb, Ulrich, Howmus, V8, Angel, Der, B;lownout cylinder, Garry... good morning can I serve you a stack of chocolate pancakes with real maple syrup ? Or perhaps I can order you some of lions sticky buns ?

Garry - I responded to your PM.

Good Afternoon!

I am just home from a short walk, as the weather turned out to be nice today, which means no rain ...

We are more or less all set for the holidays - a few finishing touches will have to be done tomorrow. The afternoon will be a lazy one - run thge afternoon train on the layout, search the web for train vids and look for more Lego inspirations. You know, this could become a new hobby for me as my dexterity has suffered a lot this year. Without the help of Claus and Lothar, I won´t be able to finish my layout. I am sure they don´t mind helping me, but I hate to depend on help.

I wish I could get some of that Lego stuff to take with me when I am going to the rehab place. It would do me a lot of good to build something like this:

or this:

Not much new on the railroad today. We went to Paducah for dinner and shopping yesterday afternoon and evening. I did not even stop at the LHS.

YGW .... Returned the PM...

Ken .... The blue car looks terrific. Is that one you did when you worked at the body shop?

Ulrich ... I'm glad you have Lother and Claus to help you with your layout. ... Did you say those models are made of Legos ?

Garry - incredible, but true! I was really awed by some of the creations I found on the web. I have downloaded the Lego Design tool and will try my hand at designing a loco - just for the fun of it! There are so many new parts (bricks) available these days which hadn´t been around in my childhood time.

Edit: Time to celebrate my post # 7,777  - Zoe, whatever these chowhounds are going to order - it´ll be on me for the day (yes, that includes Barry´s Barry-sized things as well).

Good Morning,

It is very white outside as we got hit with another winter storm. Likely be at least 15cm. when it is all done and then the wind will blow it all about. Lucky we went out yesterday and did our errands. Christmas prep today which largely means my wife will be wrapping. We are going out to my SIL's for dinner on the day and no one is coming over so not a lot to do.

John(der) please say hello to Greyfox from me. I remember him well. He did send me the odd PM but I lost his e-mail address.

Well time to do a few things. I have to change a headlight bulb in the car. According to the manual it shouldn't be too difficult. You have to remove the whole headlight assembly to do it though. After that I need to shovel a path for Robbie in the backyard as he was up to his armpits this morning.

I may do some RR stuff too. I have just about finished the 2 Athearn heavyweight kits I picked up at the trainshow in the fall. I put interiors in them and also lights using those Easy Peasy units. Next will  be to paint and assemble a Dairy Queen kit I just acquired.

Have a good day,

CN Charlie

Mornin'... Well, I missed the morning here by a few minutes I guess.

Zoe.  I'll just have a fresh pot of Marrakeshy Express Darki Roast Coffee to get me a bit more awake.

Dark and Gray outside at the moment.  Current temp is 55°F with some rain showers this afternoon.  High should be around 58°F.  Some sun should appear tomorrow and on Christmas they say....

I have two more gifts to get wrapped and I will be finished doing that chore for the season.  Will cook down the Winter Squash for the Christmas dinner out at my son's house, and more for the get togather at my sister's house on Saturday.  She is still upset that my DIL's family doesn't change all their plans so SHE can host Christmas dinner at her house for My son's family and me....  After all SHE is far more important than my son's MIL and that family!!!!  She just doesn't get it.  I don't give her any support for that kind of thing.  Since I don't have the wood stove any more and the temp is supposed to be 46°F on Saturday I don't have to transport a load of wood to her house for her fireplace......  ("You're a mean one... Mr. Grinch...!")

Catch you all later!

Good evening (at least in my neck of the woods), men ( and any Ladies):

I/we have raised $450.00 so far and I have  3 unknown pledges made or on the way! We are off to a great start! Let's keep them coming! We CAN do it!

It may not be enough to pay the medical bills, but there are other needs and bills to pay. If you never have, try imagining loosing EVERYTHING  you own, and having to start over. I have lost everything twice and started over 3 times completely I'm my life

Once a house fire, once home invasion, and losing everything and becoming homeless, so I understand greatly. Nothing like not having anything with no place to go.

Even our C friends to the N are helping!

Like to see it!

Thanks to all who have/are/will contribute!

Evenin' folks!

Janie, I just need another cup of decaf to tide me over to bedtime....

Today has been a catch up with as many things needing to get done as I can day...  Got the last presents wrapped and ready to take to the Christmas Gatherings.  Wrote a couple checks for promised funds (church and MLK).  OH, I did something that I have never done before in my 69 years of life before.  I have lived all my life here in the North.  11 years in the Southern Tier of NYS, 2 years over in Western NY when I taugh in Elba, and all the rest right here in the Finger Lakes Region of NYS.  You all know that I always have a nice vegetable Garden out back.  Today, on the 23rd. of December, I went out and picked some fresh broccoli from the garden and had it for supper.  Yep fresh broccoli growing out there in late December!  I have had fresh broccoli for Thanksgiving but not Christmas (and yes I will be taking a bag out to my DIL then).  Tomorrow the temp here is supposed to get up to 65°F.....   Hmmmmmmmmmm........?  Broccoli was good too!  Suppose I should mow my lawn one last time for the year......  Nah!

I even found some time to work on the Girder Bridge.  Yesterday I touched up all the spots on the painting that the spray paint didn't reach and today have cut, stained, and installed the ties.  Four of the ties are PC ties that will be painted just as soon as the rails are installed which is the next step.  If I have measured correctly the longest and largest of my equipment should clear the sides of the girders and it will be good to put on the layout as soon as the area is ready for it.

Tomorrow I will cook down the winter squash for Christmas Dinner and then again for the meal at my sister's house on Saturday.  Then I have a couple days to clean house (and does it need it!) before some guests stop over to see the layout next week.

Keeping many of you and your families in my prayers tonight!  Be blessed and hang in there....

Okay officially finished with the Christmas shopping. An unexpected blessing. We didnt get any bonuses this year BUT our company gave us off starting Thursday and we are off until Jan 4th. Paid ! We do not have to use any vacation or sick leave.

Howmus - Broccoli this time of year !! Yesterday my friend who does free lance mechanic work returned my mower ( blew the engine up late this year ) he had rebuilt the engine with a short block. I actually mowed some of the yard in a test run. There was actually grass to be cut ! I remember in my youth several warm Christmas/Jan.

V8 - On the subject of taxes- Here they have sales tax, property tax on homes and the hated vehicle tax ( this one is really despised ) and now the taxes on the utility bills is MORE than the utility !!

Charlie - Shoveling snow already !!!??? Man isnt that something. Howus is still gardening and can cut grass and you are shoveling snow ! Amazing

Der - nice background and I always appreciate " Merry Christmas" after all this is the reason we are given a few days off, shop to give gifts to commerate the wise men given gift to the baby Jesus....Thanks for actually saying Merry Christmas.

Ulrich - congrats on the 7777. That is an amazing amount of post.
