 Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer and keep it coming.

Rotten Day so that is covered.

V8 Vega PM me your phone number and a time we can talk. Few things you need to check before you spend a dime on new parts. Good chances you have a core shift in the front of the GSR and new parts will not fit. It is not hard to check, but I am just not in the mood to type that much right now. Let me know of you sent if you sent the PM, I don't check often.

Flo, I am going to stare at my layout and watch the trains go round and round and day dream for a while.

Later, Ken

Morning diners,

I was going to write yesterday about modeling the C&O in the late 60s or early 1970s before Chessie System. After two days of planning it I decided to drop it. I was no longer being interesting to me, but it was a good idea.

Hello Railfans! Top of the morning to you all. Flo - my usual please. I hope this post finds you all doing well, safe and warm on this brisk Sunday morning. As for myself, I am doing fine.

The last month has been a very bad one for me. No sense bringing everyone down so how about I just hit the high points....

First, I recently had a birthday fly by and since (in my own thinking) I have been a good boy i decided to reward myself with a few EBay purchases. I picked up two more Berkshires and three more 0-8-0's of the Life-Like Heritage brand. Ofcourse in PM livery like I had to tell yall that, lol! They should be arriving later this week.

I also managed to get a ride on #80, Amtrak, the Carolinian. Oh man, nothing like a train ride for what ails you. I was right as rain after my trip. But what am i telling you folks for? Yall already know!

Nothing else much on the train front going on. Just no time. Because of the situation of late it looks like I am gonna be spending my time half between Charlotte and Canton. Nice commute huh?

No worries though folks. Soon as things get settled and work into a groove, things should get back to some assemblance of normal. Maybe then I can get back into the hobby.

See you folks soon - Take Care one and all!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Lemoade Please.

Work Last 30 days have been strange, it was the worst best month I have had at this job. Last month I only had $17000.00 in sale, that is awful! But it seems I sold the right stuff, I made a extra $1193.00 in spiffs? With all the over time this last 30 days as paid good by my current stanreds.

Train Front I have decided to take down the layout. I am tired of the current layout and I do want to get the Road Runner inside. Don't worry, I am not getting out of trains. I hope to build a new layout that will be large, around the wall layout with a pop up section that I can move and get the Road Runner in and out of the garage.

I am all so thinking about pulling all the turnouts but maybe keep 6 or so. I have over 50 of them on the current layout and I never use them. I all so want a 2% grade that will rise to 4". There will still be 2 main lines. I wonder if Ulrich would feel like doing a plan for me?

Yard Wars Shawn cut down another hug pile! Not looking forward to dragging it out!

YGW Good speaking with you as well.

 Pretty beat, so later.

Mornin' everyone!  Oh Hi Vinnie!

Zoe, I'll have the 32 special this morning, over easy on the eggs, A double order of sausage links (give half of them to Lion please), home fries, and a double order of the sour dough toast with lots of grape jelly please.

There was a good crowd at the Batavia Train Show yesterday and most people wlking around carrying bags of purchases.  The club that puts this on was very happy!  I got a few more signatures on the petition for the Division, shook a lot of hands and handed out some NMRA Literature.  I took it easy on the way home and only drove 7 mph over the posted speed limit on the thruway (72mph) meaning that I was evidently holding up those who wanted to go 95mph, at dusk at this time of year...  Amazingly there were only 2 dead deer alongside the road freshly killed...  The rut is on and regular hunting season just started which is why I kept my speed to just above what I would have wanted to be driving.  I only saw one doe grazing right by the edge of the road, I slowed down, and had several people behind me completetly ticked off....  I guess when you are texting, drinking from your Big Gulp, and such, driving 90mph keeps you from destroying your car when you hit a deer...  OK, Rant over!

I picked up a couple books from an old friend yesterday at the show, one is a book about the history of Eastman School of Music (Where I went to college). and the other is about American (4-4-0) Locomotives.  They both should make good reading in the evnings when I am "cuddling" with Manét on the couch.

Nobody has put in a Quote for the day yet, so here is one:

"A civilized society is one which tolerates eccentricity to the point of doubtful sanity." - Robert Frost

"To be social is to be forgiving." - Robert Frost

I still have to unload the car from the show yesterday and have a Dr. appt. early this afternoon (regular check up), so I best get myself away from the computer and get busy!

Later!

Morning diners,

Slow day for me today. Apparently it's raining and supported to be the same for the whole day, around the mid 50s.

I was planning to mail the freight car back since it was the wrong number. That has been moved to Wednesday when we take dad to the airport.

My mom came home saying that her back left tire looks to low (nail or not enough air). So I'm waiting for dad to come home to check on it, if not he would have to drive her to work.

Zoe, I can use another refill of the dark roast coffee please....

OK, folks.  Each one of us signed an agreement to follow the forum rules when we joined their forumUlrich I thought you liked this forum so you could try to forget some of the fears and anger that is over there?  Others, there are several hundred thousand online sites where you can argue your belief systems (that includes politics).  Kalmbach has clearly stated this is not one of them.

I have bit my tongue and got up and walked away many times over the last year or so with some of the racist, political, and other personal belief posts that a couple of you just can't resist putting up here.  There is not a problem saying you will pray for, care about, or try to help anyone on here.

All of you know I have been a volunteer in the BSA for over 40 years now, I am on ordained Deacon, I volunteer for many groups in my community to try to help others.  I try to follow the Scout Law (particularly, A Scout is Courteous, A Scout is Kind, and a Scout is Helpful) both in here and in my life.

We have lost several people who who used to be regulars in here, and I believe the items Mr. Otte has refered to are a big part of that.  Lets make this, once again, the best place on the internet, to chat and be friends as Model Railroaders.  And... leave the other stuff at the door.

Just my My 2 Cents.

Good Morning,

A drizzly day here but the temp is nice at about 45F. Might get the tulips planted today as likely the last decent day to do so. It doesn't take long as I have a special giant drill bit especially for that job. I can do a perfect hole for the bulb in about 15 seconds.

Not much on the agenda today. I haven't turned off the the water to the outdoor taps yet but will have to do so by tomorrow as we won't be above freezing here by the end of the week.

I actually ran a train yesterday for a little bit and think I will get back to doing some roadwork on the N scale. That book I got on CN steam is really good and it must be motivating me. There is more info in it than I will likely ever need or want but still a lot of it is very interesting.

Still no Galaxy.

Well said Ray.

See you soon,

Well said RayBow

World crises are unlikely to ever cease, some are worse than others, and when we are faced with a tough one, fear tends to pay us a visit, and when fear gets the best of us, bigotry takes over. If we would stand up to our fear the way one stands up to a schoolyard bully, a much more cerebral assessment of the situation will be made.

I for one like to come to the forum to relax and escape for a while. I think its great that we have a place to come and offer our best to those in need and yak. We should respect our host wishes as far as how we should conduct ourselves as if we are in their home. There are plenty of internet forums where you can spew childlike vile until your hearts content. There are also two or three countries in the world that have no functioning Governments. You want freedom try moving there, once there you can do as you wish.

There appears to be no moderation on the weekends and except for times when emotions get the best of us, none seems to be needed. So check it at the door and I'll enjoy my glass of wine, quietly, over here in the corner. I would hate to see a closed sign on the door Saturdays and Sundays. DrinksSmile

I am active in a busy sports forum.  We have a sub-section for Politics.  It has no rules other than to treat each other with some respect.  There are only a half-dozen banned words, mostly anatomical parts.

This forum is a great place to discuss trains.  That forum is a great place to discuss politics and things like the Patriots' AWESOME victory last night.  If anyone is interested, send me a PM.

I abide by the forum rules for the most part. Even though like Ray I bite my tongue (for the most part ) I like Ray believe in being respectful etc...I also appreciate the host allowing us to have this forum. With that said though their are at times, certain points of view that are tolerated more than others. Thats when I get a bit charged.

For instance I dont drink at all, dont approve of it and have had five family members killed by those choosing to do so. I tolerate their choosing to drink even though my family has been devastated by those that choose to do so. You wish to, thats your buisness. Fine no problem --- until I state a view point that someone else gets bent out of shape  about---That in legal terms is called "view point discrimination". In addition I have seen profanity and sexual suggestions used in here. That is strictly prohibited, I didnt say a word in the interest of being "tolerant" also I did not belittle others by name calling such as "being a bully" "Intolerant" "childish" etc...

Tolerance is not a one way street.

I appreciate your contributions to the Forum and hope that having a frank discussion with you from both our perspective will lead to mutual understanding and respect. For further conversation, if you desire to do so we can use the PM and take it off line.

Good Evening,

I could see the owners of this forum deleting the Diner completely if the current rebellious trend continues and I wouldn't blame them if they did.

After all, the Diner is supposed to be RR related and what is going on in your life, but not a pulpit for pushing your point of view.

Wow, what an absolutely gorgeous day in SE Ohio River Valley.  High was about 68 F with clear sky and just a little breeze.  Spent the afternoon digging more of my porch footing excavation.  Found an old glass quart milk bottle and a small medicine type bottle while digging.  Checked on the net and the milk bottle is probably worth $18.

I went to an NMRA divisional meeting in St. Albans, WV Saturday.  Interesting program about the history of transportation in WV.  WV transportation history is tied to the C&O, B&O and Virginian RRs.

Planning on seeing the new James Bond flick tonight.

The layout is taking a back burner to the porch foundation.  I have decided that the next layout construction project will be a 2X3 workbench as I have no real area to work on models.

Thanks, but I think I will pass. After your tirade on the Quran and Islam that by your own admission was based on nothing more than hearsay (she said, he said) I don't think it would be  enjoyable or beneficial to either one of us.

I think I will take Ulrich's lead and take a break from this forum for a little while. Jason Shron has a forum going that offers chuckle's instead of animosity. Imagine that! A heathen and a Jew getting along.Laugh

It appears the collateral damage from the terrorist attacks is a level of division in a group that was once extremely cohesive. This division could be the end of the diner, either through a mass exodus, or by the intervention of a higher power (the moderators/hosts/landlords). It would a shame if the terrorists were successful in driving these good patrons apart.
