Good Morning,
The weatherman was right for a change and the day is turning out warm and sunny.

Been camping at Limestone Lake for the past week without phone, TV or running water. Saw the best Northern Lights I think I have ever seen Thursday night. Had a very interesting experience helping my friend pull a sunken wild rice picker off the bottom of the lake using a 3x2 block and tackle rigger with 1 inch hemp rope and a WARN winch on a Yamaha Rhino quad for pulling power. It took nine pulls to turn the picker and then pull it on shore. Apparently the picker's haul has developed a crack in the aluminum floor. The picker consist of a john boat, a 20 ft wide trey to collect the ripe rice, a Ford V-6 engine powering a two blade propeller that pushes the picker air boat style through the rice. Friend was going to try to repair the leak with Bondo today so he can continue picking.
Saw the first hockey game of this season last night in Flin Flon. Local Bombers dominated the visiting team to a 5-1 win outshooting the opponent 29 to 7.
Bob, sorry to hear about your loss of a pet having been through this experience recently.
Uhlrich, really like your new purchase.
Our summer sojourn is coming to a close. My wife flies to D.C. next Sunday to watch the grandkids for a couple of weeks and then it is back to SE Ohio for both of us.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Well, went to two open houses. One wasn't worth what they were asking for it, the other was exactly worth it. the one "worth it" was NOT for us. crawlspace and sloped floor too...
so we are looking again...
nothing else new jsut groceryshopping dropped $100 today. too.

EVERYWHERE LOST; WE HUSTLE OUR CABOOSE FOR YOU
Evening, Folks!
Just stopping by for a nightcap before hitting the hay. It´s been a rather dull and boring day - all wet & windy. I was not up too much, in fact, I did actually nothing than reading and listening to my favorite music.
Galaxy - I am pulling for you and a successfil house hunt!
CNCharlie - if we were to have a pet, it´ll be a West Highland Terrier. I like their strong, independant character, yet they are still playful.
Out again - CU all tomorrow!
Today has been a very lazy boring sunday.
CNCharlie- We have a dog too and he's also stubborn, independent and playful, but lately that playfulness comes and goes. (American Pit bull)
I decided to buy some BLMA flatcars for my 80s Conrail layout. My train buying has slowed down because of the preorders that might come in November/December months. So I thought I might buy Christmas presents early before its too late.
Amtrak America, 1971-Present.
Thanks everyone for your condolences. He was a good little guy, hardly ever yowed and usually visited with his parents as we watched tv, hoping back and forth between our laps. A few years ago, he alerted us to the presence of a bat in the house by standing and staring at the hutch like a pointer, till my wife finally looked and saw it.
Anyway, to take out my frustration, I went downstairs and built bookcases for the train room all afternoon. As a bonus, I heard the Yankees actually win a game! Then, when I came back upstairs, I heard Moses Malone died. It's very sobering when the heroes of your youth die.
Good Sunday evening, Diners!
62f and clear. down to around 38f tonight.
My GB Packers let Da Bears get their hopes up before coming alive in the last quarter. Yay!
After the game I went downstairs and ran some trains, swapped out plastic wheels for Inter Mountain wheelsets on 5 cars and put them into service, made some trees and cleaned up/off the workbench.
Sorry for all the trials and tribulations being endured.
Cuda Ken, I've never measured all the track, but I would say there's over 400' of mainline. It's a big space, 30'x42', and all layout except for aisles and a work area. There are three penisulas. Two are 24' and one is 22'. Otherwise it's an around the walls type.
Johnboy, I almost have enough for a shipment of the same stuff I sent you before if you want it. Let me know.
That's about all for now.

Flo, please.
In a little bite of a foul mood tonight, mainly work. Customers, well lets just say I had some cabooses! All so found out Dave is telling customers he is the Manager. That sort of PO me off some but not a lot. I told the customer "Dave was the Manager but he is having a little problem excpeting the fact that I am now".
Thinking about taking down the layout again. I would love to start working on my 68 Road Runner again.

Hello all

Uncle Bob - sorry for the loss of your kitty.
Well gotta run.

Evenin' Folks!
Janie, just a cup of decaf for me to warm me up.
We went straight from mid summer to late fall here in the Finger Lakes over the past few days. Today it was in the low 50's when I got out of bed, and the temp got all the way up to the mid 60's. Currently 55°F on it's way down to 52 overnight. Last night I turned the heat on here as it was cool and damp. I was also still chilled from the day in the rain out at the museum. We got 1" of rain yesterday and will probably get another 1/4" overnight tonight. We needed it!
Made it to church this morning. We had a Acoustician there to listen to the sound and do some testing. I am on the committee and am the only person in the church with any background in it. He at least agrees we have some problems.... The solution may be out of our budget range though. Next week I will working train crew at the Museum Saturday and Sunday.
Catch you all in the morning!

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO
We'll get there sooner or later!
GM, Men!
Not much this morning stoopid {as Todd would say} cat woke me earlier than I'd have liked. He claws at the closet door when he wants Pop-Pop up to give him breakfast. Breakfast comes at 6am sharp, NOt at 3:30AM!!! he has to have his thyroid meds FIRST... SO MOH has to give him that, as he doesn't co-operate with me. Silly BoY! My Little man.
Yes, usually I am up then, but since I sleep so little so often, If I AM able to sleep, I WANT to sleep!
So, I have a headache too, bad way to start off the day. I have to "remodel the kitchen" so to speak,,,, reorganize it, and the "pantry" shelves.
so, If my headache doesn't go away, I might not but tomorrow is garbage day so anytthing we don't want, will go out I HOPE.
so here's hoping my headache resolves.
Good morning everyone.
Galaxy .... We have food out all of the time for the cats. They don't eat too much, and they do not awken us to be fed.
YGW ... That is GREAT NEWS ! ... However, I had faith all would go well ... Hopefully, the problem does not return. I suppose doctors will be following up routinely to make sure.
Dennis V8 .... Congratulations on the good deal. I love deals like that. .... Allso, the old Caddy must have been impressive. I recall my parents had a 1956 Caddy, and I think had enough steel to build a tank.
Terry in Wisconsin. ... Good to see you here. However, while growing up in CHicago I was a Bears fan.
My rural grain elevator is completed, and now I plan to build a shed using material from my scrap box to place next to it on the layout.
Weather here has cooled off too, but it will return to normal this week. We'll be reallly nice and warm when we travel to AZ later this month. My daughter out there said it cooled off in Phoenix with the high being only 98 degrees F.
Happy Model Railroading
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a breakfast bagel this morning... One with egg, Canadian Bacon, and cheese would be good. Oh, yes, a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast would be needed as well. What? My R&GV RR Mug would be good. Thank you Ma'am!
Whose over in the back singing, "I've got Rhythm....."? Oh YGW! Sure glad the reset on the heart worked like it was supposed to. Like others, I hope it will now stay in the correct rhythm for you.
Galaxy, just keep looking! Half the fun is the searchiong for the right place.... I know you will find that perfect house in time.
Sun is trying to shine today.... How novel! Might even make a decent amount of electricity. Last Friday they produced 20.5 kWh, then Saturday it was 1.9kWh. Sunday was a bit better at 5kWh, but not what I like to see being produced in September. It should be averaging closer to 17/18kWh a day right now. Temperature outside when I turned on the computer a couple hours ago was 54°F, now it is 64° and it will peak at 72° later this afternoon.
I have to call the vet for an appointment to get Manét's blood sugar checked later this week or next Monday at the latest, have to make an appointment for myself at the hearing center. Need to get the left one fixed.... Then I hope to get more STUFF done around here. Might even go sit and stare at the bridge project down cellar for a while.....
Catch you al later!
Heartland Division CB&Q Galaxy .... We have food out all of the time for the cats. They don't eat too much, and they do not awken us to be fed.
He HAS dry cat food for snacking anytime always out. Its the canned food He wants... He get some at 6am and at 5pm for dinner. He gets treats when he greets us at the door. He gets plenty, but with the thyroid problem, he eats constantly. Of course he has been bugging me in the mornings since a long time past. I thought he was over it, but apparently NOT. HE does NOT get canned right away when he wakes me/moh so he won't get the idea that waking us means canned food.
But this mornnig, he wokeme. He either "hops on Pop-Pop" or scratches at the clsoet door. This mornging was the closet door scratching, I have a water squirt bottle to squirt wiht, but the damage is done by that time. He has woken me and I don't often get back to sleep.
Going to a computer class tonight, might learn soemthing to help in my quest for part part time job.
Got the approval for our local hospital's patient aid progrma. We get 100% charitable discount for hospital services. You havee to have insurance, but it will cover what the insurance doesn't. They also have pharmacy help this year, which will come very much in handy for the co-pays on my expensive psychotropic meds!!! Upto a certain amount of co-pays or deductibles that is. Maybe I wont have to go through what I did last Jan-June when I wound up in the psych ward.
so that is great news.
Heartland Division CB&Q. . .We'll be reallly nice and warm when we travel to AZ later this month. My daughter out there said it cooled off in Phoenix with the high being only 98 degrees F. . .
It looks like the worst of summer (read triple digit highs) may be over here in Phoenix. The 10-day forecast for Mesa shows one day at 99, but nothing higher. The other good news is that the morning temperatures are below 80. By the end of the month, it shouldn't be too bad.
If you have been to Phoenix before, I am sure you visited the McCormick Stillman Railroad Park. If not, it is well worth the trip. There is a 10,000 sqft building with three MRR layouts--O, HO, and N. If you bring kids, bring money. The MRR exhibit is free, but the train ride and carousel are a little over-priced.

Richard ... Actually, I was thinking we should go back to McCormick. I was there several years ago. ... Depends on what everybody is doing. ... Our daughter and her husband are in Casa Grande, but our first two nights are in Scottsdale. In Casa Grande, I like watching the UP on its busy main line. ... We get to AZ about once every 2 years.
Galaxy ... Spoiling your cat, eh ! .. LOL ... Ours have dry food only, and it is the high quality stuff. One of the cats is on urinary tratemnt food prescibed by the vet. However, all 3 share that food plus other high quality food. .... We learned long ago cheap pet food is dangerous to the animals.
Evening Dinner?
Flo, why is there a For Sale sighn on the dinner? Well I will take please
Peacefull day at work today. Only had one customer all day, while he bought I did not make jack. But, it is better than having 10 customers and no one is buying!
Well it is that time of month I hate the most, House Payment time! This one will be trickey. Tuesday is the 15th and my check will be at the store so I will have to go pick it up. (I am off because of the house payment) Pay check will no clear till Wednesday. Go to Bank Of Stupid late Tuesday and write the Fast Check so to speak. Plus I will need to cash in around $400.00 out of savings this time. First time in the last 3 months because I was working 6 days a week. I hate the hours, but sure needed the overtime!
YGW Great to hear the got the ticker keeping the correct time again!!
Later, Ken
Evening everybody watching some football facing off with the Vikings and 49ers.
Lately I been thinking about my Conrail layout and try to force myself to pick a layout design and build it. Harder said than done. A have a few era appropriate cars but only 2 GP35.
I might go with another railroad but I would have the same problem. I have books that should make it easier but it doesn't.
Happy Railroading,... Planning,... Fun!!!
Marriage counselling this morning. so off early,
It occurred to me not having put up word of the day a lot laately so here's one:
Today's word:
Where is everybody ?
There must be leftoever donuts in the Diner because nobody is here eating them.
In the past, I have sat in the back corner of the diner, listened in, and occasionally venturing out to join in a discussion. I figured it is about time to be a more participative patron, particularly given the current lull in conversation.
This morning was a good one in the Valley of the Sun. We had a rain storm blow through last night so it was a little cooler during this morning's bike ride. The storm did take it toll, though. In one of the neighborhoods I ride through, the wind had take out two mature trees--knocked them over, roots and all.
I am trying to get in a few more rides before I go under the knife next week. I have had a hernia for the past couple of years and decided it was time to get it repaired. After the bike accident in the spring, I hit my out-of-pocket maximum for the year. Everything is free, at least to me. The co-pay on the hernia repair would have been between $1,000 and $1,500, but not this year.
Zoe, I just need another mug of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast right now.....
"The sun is a shinin' to welcome the day..." Another nice sunny day here in the Fi ger Lakes Rgion of NYS! Yesterday was the second best day this month for making electricity here. Total of 20.18kWh. A bit better than last Saturday at 1.89kWh.... Today could be even better. No clouds at all so far and since it rained, the air is clean, no haze from dust....
RideOnRoad, I would say, "Get that hernia repair ASAP!" Couple trees here near my house that I am waiting for a good storm to take down. My house shouldn't get hit, but the folks next door would be right in line if the winds direction was just right for one of them. They have talked to the guy who owns the property, but he says the tree is perfectly sound and won't spend the $$$ to have it removed. I'd like to see it come down for everyones safety, and the fact it is the major tree (pine) that shades my solar panels for a part of the year....
Good to hear Californ-I-A is getting some rain! You folks sure need it out there...
I will be heading over to Auburn to get more stuff for the aquarium today. Need a new cover for it, and I have it up and ready to add some live plants. Tonight I will be attending an operating session in Hammondsport at the home of one of the Division members. He is a MMR and his layout is spectacular! Always enjoy being able to operate on his layout. he is also great at teaching the tricks of operations also.
Have a great day!
Ray: What kind of aquarium? I am assuming, since you are using live plants it is freshwater. Years ago we had a couple freshwater aquariums, a 20 gallon and a 30 gallon. We had the 30 gallon tank set up in the fireplace. We lived in California at the time and didn't have much use for a fireplace. It had a neat effect--it looked like the fish were swimming in a cave in the wall. With the advent of children, we didn't have the time for the upkeep so the fish were given away and the aquariums were drained, stored, and finally given way.
V8VegaIts raining
Seems it never rains in Southern CaliforniaSeems I've often heard that kind of talk beforeIt never rains in California, but girl, don't they warn yaIt pours, man, it pours
Dennis - we had plenty of that wet stuff sind the end of last month! We are soaked! Want some?
Good Afternoon!
I spend a lot of time researching how to build the catenary on my little layout. Seems to be a highly challenging task, despite Sommerfeldt of Germany having all the ingredients for it ready-made. I did find a lot of information, but had to rework my plans considerably to accomodate the catenary. While redoing the plan, I mirrored it and added all the detail of the catenary tp it. This gives me a good feeling for what I´ll be up when I (or, most likely, someone else) will start on it.
Here is an updated movie of the plan:
I hope you like the Swiss "Alphorn" music
Richard - I have heard of lots of things being available for free, but a freebie surgery? Better take a close look at the surgeon before they knock you out
This place has been rather empty and deserted lately. I see little chance for some of the long lost MIA´s returning, which is really a pity. I enjoyed reading about THAT editor or seeing DerJohn´s wonderful N scale layout progress. Todd´s little stories on his favorite Chinese restaurant were als very much entertaining. I miss his sense of humor! I also miss the contribution of so many others I have not yet mentioned.
It´s not the time to look back, though. What can we do to increase interest in this thread and therefore increase participation. I had hoped to attract more folks into this place with my visits to places "over the Big Pond", but that proved to be not the right medicine.
Any ideas?
RideOnRoadWhat kind of aquarium?
Hi Richard! It is an old 55 gal aquarium my son brought home to me back when he worked at a Trout Farm business in Ohio. Some lady gave it to him and he figured it was time I got back in that hobby..... He thought it was a 100gal. I just did some measuring and checked it out online and found out it is an old style 55gal. All Glass Aquarium ™.
Yes, it is freshwater. I will not keep fish that were not bred in captivity and Salt Water is pricey!!! It one time I was a supplier to a tropical fish wholesaler in Pine City, NY. I had 21 tanks of fish in a room down cellar in my old house in Waverly. I also used to teach private guitar in that room....
Hello all.
Ulrich - why are some folks not coming back ? Any comments ? I too miss them.
Richard - Yea I would be seeing every doc I could. My insurance, thanks to Obama, went from a 2k deductible to a 10k deductible. At first they would pay some and deduct some. Then they stopped paying anything at all after oboomba welfcare care became legal. So I was paying to get letters sent home every month stating you have nopt met your 10k deductible we arent paying. So then I replied if I am paying you to pay my bills and you are not why am I paying you ? We can fix this - good by!
Garry - Thanks oh I am here : ) !
Ken thanks can I call you later about a mattress for my daughter ?
HOWMUS Wrote - LOL ROTF "Whose over in the back singing, "I've got Rhythm....."? Oh YGW! Sure glad the reset on the heart worked like it was supposed to." you know this explains a lot, I have never had any musical rythm. Now I KNOW WHY my heart wasnt beating in sync ! Heck I cannot even clap in time.
V8 - Gonna die because of 5 hours of rain ? What is up with that ? Heck I have seen it rain here for days on end. I know what you mean about winning another piece of rolling stock. I do the same thing -especially if it has N&W on it and the price is cheap ! Do I have a hole in my head ?
Okay here is another example of STUPID gov. at work. The 2009 building codes just lowered the frost depth in this area to 36" from 24". Not to be out done the fireMarshall lowered their depth to 4' ! So now we have a water line that serves the dual purpose of water supply and fire line supply. The water part can be 3' but the fire marshall states "oh no it might freeze and it has to be 4' deep ! I have NEVER seen it freeze deeper than 12" here. Dumb and dumber running our code and gov. Geez I hate gov that doesnt have a little common sense or actual building expierence
Well I to won an N&W Hopper and lost a couple to on ebay. Supposed to arrive this Saturday.
yougottawantaUlrich - why are some folks not coming back ? Any comments ? I too miss them.
In most of the cases I can only guess. John from Nova Scotia sold his house and he and his wife Kris moved closer to Halifax. I don´t know what happened with his layout. He had been planning this move for quite some time. Other "oldtimers" just left without a word or even passed away.
How does one share the day when nothing much happens day in and day out? Are we not all somehow stuck in a daily routine without little variation to it?
Maybe we should talk more on-topic here to attract new patrons. Well, I don´t really know. I hate to see this place just fade away.
Ulrich: {1} you sorta show your age with quoting that song! {2} the alpenhorn didnt bother me, I find it kinda interesting, though I am sure 1/2hr is about ALL I'd like, of course I also LOVE a good Pipe Organ piece too...RAY would be so proud! {3} thats a nice little layout. About what I'd expect from my under-bed box Z scale, IF I can ever affford them!
well, RIde on road: I had a double inguinal hernia repair some 10-dozen odd years ago...nothing to it, you'll be relieved. My insurance is different than yours, but MOH's is worse than yours.I'd say more but it'd be misconsrued as "political". MOH's now, last year with a surgery for MOH {and me but I pay exhorbitant rates to have NO bills}, we spent 52% of our goss income on health care between us last year!!!
well, I have computer brush-up or learning class tonight too Mon and tues for 6 weeks. We will see what I learn I forgot.
well, that is it from lake woe-is-us.
Galaxy: This is my second time around for the hernia repair. The first one was the right side about 21 years ago. It took this long for the left side to get jealous of the cool scar on the right side and to decide it wanted one of its own.
