GM, MEN!

sorb

PRONUNCIATION:
(sorb) http://wordsmith.org/words/sorb.mp3

MEANING:
verb intr.:
1. To take up and hold by absorption.
2. To take up and hold by adsorption.

NOTES:
So what’s the difference between absorption and adsorption, besides a turned-around letter b? Absorption is when a substance is completely assimilated by another while in adsorption the substance deposits on the surface of another.

ETYMOLOGY:
Back-formation from absorb, from Latin absorbere, from ab- (away) + sorbere (to suck). Earliest documented use: 1909.

USAGE:

Nitrate is an anion and is not attracted to or sorbed by soil particles.”
Philippe Quevauviller, et al; Wastewater Quality Monitoring and Treatment; Wiley; 2006.

Today's Quotes: From the late Great Thomas Jefferson:

Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.

Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.

In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock.

But friendship is precious, not only in the shade, but in the sunshine of life, and thanks to a benevolent arrangement the greater part of life is sunshine.

Nothing gives one person so much advantage over another as to remain always cool and unruffled under all circumstances.

I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past.

I have no fear that the result of our experiment will be that men may be trusted to govern themselves without a master.

I believe that every human mind feels pleasure in doing good to another.

Ulrich - Who is driving that thing ! I stopped and watched and reversed the video several times. I didnt see an operator in the cab. Pretty neat. Amazed such a small locomative could pull soo many cars.

The driver is usually on the side. At min 1:25 of the video you can see him standing on the left side of the boiler - that´s were the controls are. Quite unusual ... The run is so short, he just needs to put a handfull of coal into the firebox at each end of the line.

I just watched a video of a fantastic HOm layout (that´s metre gauge). It is Reto Sager´s (of Switzerland) Rhaetian Railway Bernina line layout, certainly one of the best layouts I´ve ever seen.

Enjoy!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of Heritage Flakes Organic Cereal and a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee please.  My R&GV RR Mug would do nicely....

Sun is out for a change this morning.  Currently 62°F with a high of 78°F late this afternoon.  I will be heading out to camp to hopefully finish up trimming around the tents early this afternoon.  I found out yesterday they will be using all of the campsites next week for the specialty camps even though there will be only 80 Scouts in camp (Trail to Eagle).  That means I have to get Mohican Campsite finished today...  I also will be stopping at my son's house to change the kittie litter for him.  They will be arriving home tomorrow if all goes well.  His houise is almost on the way to camp so that will be good.

I had just gotten home from camp yesterday when the phone rang.  It was the Amish furniture place letting me know my Hutch has arrived.  i told the lady that I will need to have all the items delivered.  She should be calling sometime this morning to let me know when that can happen.  YES!  The couch and chair should be arriving soon as well.  Then I can get the details done and start enjoying the finished project.  Maybe even find time to spend in the train rooms down cellar....

Ulrich, I am enjoying the videos you are posting.  Particularly the steam.  I will watch today's after I get myself showered and dressed and have my hearing aids in....

Galaxy, our museum looked at buying that caboose since it is nearby.  We won't as we have too many unfinished projects, several involving cabooses, going on at the moment.  One of our members is interested in getting it for a guest house at his "cottage" on Canandaigua Lake (he is a bit more able to afford stuff like that than the average member out there...LOL).

Later!

Good morning diners,

Today's temperature will 84 degrees and sunny, but for now its cloudy with a cool breeze.

YGW A swamp cooler is another word for evaporative cooler. It's cheaper than an air conditioning system in the desert. Basically you add water and cools the house down with outdoor heat.

Angelob- that is interesting thanks. How cool will it get the air ?

Galaxy - I have been to Thomas Jefferson home and have read a lot about him. He is way over rated. Bit of a jerk too. He was so badly in debt to the french that they refused to loan him any more and he had to enlist Adams to get the Dutch to loan him money. He ticked George Washington off so badly that he refused to communicate with him any further. He died with out talking or writing to him again. He also used alias in the newpapers to slander other leaders. T.Jefferson died so far in debt that his family had to sell off everything in order to pay off his debts.

The faucet is a fairly simply fix. Turn off the water under the sink in the cabinet. Then take a screw driver and remove the handles (take pictures as you go so you can see how to put it back together) there will be a tiny washer inside. Take that to your local hardware and match it up and replace. That should slow the drip way down.

Lion - Is that real or your layout ?

Garry - Good day to you. I to liked teh hooker tankers. But I wouldnt dare say what you said. It seems there is snitch in here that is very quick to report me.

Good morning Howmus.

Gotta run MOH want to change out the dining room light fixture so gotta get back to it.

On very lucky days I can make the temperature in the house around 70 degrees. But most of the time it stills in the 80s on hot and humid days. When it doesn't work.

Sorry to jump in here. Swamp coolers are very popular here in northern Nevada. They work really well in a dry environment to about 100 degrees then they become less effective. They are extremely simple and cost less than A/C. They draw air through water soaked filters. They pump humidity into the air. Not that good for a humid area like VA.

YGW:The faucet is out of date, no longer any parts for it. The sink is a plastic sink, the layers are peeling off and it grows mold/mildew, bleach and stuff only makes it look better for a short time. iT needs to be replaced too. There is no fix for the hole developing in the floor expect to tear out {remove} and replace. We want  a new efficient better built toilet anyway.

I didn't say I condone TJ, but I like what he is quoted as saying...so I used it. You don't have to read if you don't like him. SInce we were not aroudn then, we have to assume HE actuallly siad those things.

To all: dinner is chicken Florentine tonight...

Hope everyone has a safe 4TH !

Mark H - Is there ever a mold issue with the systems ?

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer Please.

Depressing start of the day to day. Sigh Pulled in the parking lot and there was a big For Sale Sign sitting in the parking lot. I knew it was coming but it still hurts after just getting the store away from Drunk Dave a few months ago.

While today was not as good as of a day as Thursday, it was still OK. Sold $1980.00. Sold 1 good high profit mattress and some low profit stuff, but it was still a profit!

Old Train In The Tunnel Photo from yesterday. All I remeber about it is it is a US Made steamer sitting on a flat car waiting to be saved. Photo is around 8 year old.

YGW Thank You for your contact information! While I have yet to read my PM's I will and will send you mine as well. If you would like I will send you my E Mail address and places your photos in my Photo Bucket Account and post them for you. With working 6 days a week for now, it may take awhile to call you. But I need the $ so I can afford to buy the lumber to replaces my fences. Plus I am going to see if I can find away to save my store.

Happy Independence Day!

Good Morning!

Today will be a hot day! Daytime high is expected to exceed the 100F, which would be the highest temperature ever recorded in my neck of the woods. Not my kind of temperature - breathing problems, swollen feet are sure no fun!

Today´s trip will take us a little closer to my home town. Bruchhausen, the starting point of Germany´s first museum railroad line, is just a good hour´s drive away. In my current sutuation, it could very well be on the moon - sigh!

May 1st marks the start of the season and it is celebrated with a number of special trains and events.

Enjoy the video and have a happy, but safe holiday!

HAPPY 4Th of JULY!

Happy 215th Birthday, America!

I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy,

A Yankee Doodle, do or die;

A real live nephew of my Uncle Sam,

Born on the Fourth of July.

I've got a Yankee Doodle sweetheart,

She's my Yankee Doodle joy.

Yankee Doodle came to London, just to ride the ponies;

I am the Yankee Doodle Boy.

Gidday Chloe, could I have a hot chocolate please. It has been a grey overcast drizzly day today with a low of 41F and a high of 53F, feels colder because of the damp.
Last Sunday I got a call asking if I was available for a week’s work in the port city of Napier down in Hawkes’ Bay, so having nothing super urgent on the go, I threw my toolboxes on the back of the ute, packed my bag and was on the road 0430 Monday morning.  When all goes well the drive usually takes 2 ½ hours, but at this time of year, you can get snow, black ice, fog or various combinations of the three especially on the Napier- Taupo road. However the road conditions were good and I had plenty of time for a leisurely breakfast before I started work at 0800. It was a full on week and a bit of a catch up as well, the contracting avionics engineer, who was an apprentice the last time I had worked with him reckoned that it was 17 years since he, myself and the chief engineer had worked together on the same job. None of us could work out where the time has gone!! As much as it was fun, I was glad to get back home to see her-in doors and my daughter who is home from university. She had made chilli con carne for me when I got home late last night and a very nice Thai red curry chicken soup for tea tonight.
Apart from the comforts of home I also lose my connection with the internet so some catching up is required, I’m enjoying the Broadway Lions subway photos and I see I am going to have to catch up on Ulrichs’ tour of Germany. I don’t know whether it is the black and red colour scheme, and/or the all weather cab, but I think those 2-8-2T locos on the Molli are handsome engines, though was sad to see the trains did not look to have many passengers. I also enjoyed the ride up the rack railway.
As for European politics, the only comment I will make is that it’s hurt my model railroading budget, because of the uncertainty, the NZ$ took a dive compared to the US$, However if that’s all I have to complain about......Laugh
Thoughts and Best Wishes to All that need them.
Cheers, the Bear. Smile

Lion - That is pretty incredible both the picture taking and the modeling !

Ken - Save the store ? They are putting it up for sale. How could you save it now ? Seems they have made the decison already. Feel free to contact me about your home issues with fence and plumbing.

Johnboy - Thannks

Ulrich - nice pictures

Galaxy - Agree with the fifth qoute. I have always wondered what Yankee doodle is about. Maybe today I will research that.

JaBear - Good morning. How does the Greek think affect the NZ $ ?

Going to my folks today. My Dad is 80 years old and still sharp in mind and body. I am blessed. I admire him so much. He stood by my mother when she was ill and took care of her and us until her death. He became well to do through hard work, pulling up his boot straps and doing the hard things right.

You all have a great fourth and hopefully I can check back in later

Happy 4th of July !

Last evening we watched fireworks over our lake on a boat. The state park on our lake did them last night and the state park on the other lake will do them tonight. We'll be at a BBQ at a neighbors house instead of seeing fireworks a second time.

YGW ... Happy birthday to your father. ... Read my response on your ebay thread. I think the Shipping and Handling is reasonable in your example. Note, it is shipping and handling. It is not just postage. It includes fees to ebay and PayPal which are about as much as postage. .... You save gasoline if you don't drive to the LHS too.

Happy Fourth, everyone!

It looks like a cloudy day here, with some rain later.  It's not going to be a good night to watch fireworks in New England, I'm afraid.  We're just having some friends over for dinner (steak tips - yummm) so the rain will move the dinner inside but othewise not bother us.

Coffee is ready!  See you later.
