Evenin' Folks!

Janie, I sure could use another refill for the decaf right now.

As usual around here it has been a busy day.  Still trying to get odds and ends done for both the Convention and the MLK Schoalrship Dinner.  The painting in the living room (for the moment) is completed today.  I will have a final color put on the walls later (have yet to choose it).  Looks like the carpet will be installed tomorrow.  I went over to the store and paid off the rest of what is owed on it and they said they will have it cut and ready for the guy tomorrow morning first thing.  I drove to Canandaigua today to deliver a bunch of checks for the Scholarship fund to the bank that handles that for us.  While I was there I delivered a pile of Summer Art Class forms I do every year for my sister (She has been doing these for at least 25 years now) and dropped off a large bag of Asparagus for her.  Tonight I put together an InDesign page for signs (13 x 19) for the convention.  These will be used to direct people to where the convention is on the RIT Campus.  They just say NMRA and have an arrow and the NMRA Logo. I even have Howard Fat font on my iMac...

Thursday I may be able to get my son to help me move some of the furniture back into the living room so I can actually move around here in the dining room and office area....

Have a good night all!  Prayers for all in need...

Good evening ...

Ray ... That was funny..... Pass the mao.

I was pleased to receive the latest edition of Model Railroader because my friend in Michiagan, Dan Lewis, has his N-Scale Milwaukee Road on the fron cover and in an article inside.

On a sad note, today we attended a military funeral for a friend who passed away. He was a Navy Vet, and he was my age. The part where they fold the Flag and present it to the widow was sad. At that moment, I thought about  a recent story in the news about disrespectful, young jerks who are entertaining themselves posting vidios in the social media as they stamp their feet on Old Glory. Made me cry.

FIrst: they won't be able to find us. The trailer park has been here some 50 years. They STIll don't know where we are?

I get that with UPS once in a while.  Well-marked secondary road, big numbers on the mailbox, house clearly visible, no gates, dogs or raging rivers to cross.  When I call they apologize and tell me it wasn't the regular guy.  It shows up the next day.

Evening guys

I went back to the doctor today, she thinks I may be suffering from migraines. I have had constant pain since Friday, figures I had three days off and it was beautiful and I didn't accomplish anything. I took a sick day yesterday and go back in tomorrow and am just hoping some of the pain is gone. I also have a tooth ache so that is not helping. I'm falling apart, lol. I tried working on some freight car weathering but quickly found that a headache and trying to focus don't mix. I just read a baseball book and will watch the ball game tonight

Well, today is the day.

Today is THE day the laptop is to arrive. It is coming FEd Ex. Now we play the GAME.

FIrst: they won't be able to find us. The trailer park has been here some 50 years. They STIll don't know where we are?

Second; once tehy find the park they won't equate the lot number CLEARLY PRINTEd out front with the lot # on the package.

Third: they will call us and say "we can't find you, come pick your package up at our office". I have done it before, but I WON'T this time. THYE are the next county over, aobut 2/3 way across the county no less and in an odd out of the way place. I WON"t because THEY are PAIUD to deliver, so DELIVER THEY MUST, I will be MROE than happy to take delivery tomorrow and give them explicit directions to here. BUT they WILL deliver it.

SO lets seee what order today goes down in...

I am willing to sign on teh doted e-pad! Where is my delivery?

we shall see what we shall see when we shall see it.

Not even 5pm and here they are! There is a series of "thunderboomers" going over us, followed by a sharp drop of the temperature.

It´s also pitch-black outside, had to switch the lights on!

Good morning!  Wow, that ride took a lot out of me yesterday, but I'm feeling fine now.  I guess I've got some training to do before I'm ready for longer than the 15 milers I've been taking.  In my younger days, I used to do that before breakfast to buy vegetables, and then go out for a real ride later.

We watched the final two episodes of Vikings last night.  I'd recorded them earlier while Penny was in Florida.  We still have other shows to catch up on, and then there will be some Netflix selections.  Since most of our favorites are "historical fiction," I like to look up the real history behind them.  I was kind of surprised to find that Vikings actually did attack and take Paris, France, in 845 AD, and the leader of that force is one "Ragnar" who is identified with the legendary Ragnar Lodbrok of the TV show.  The French king/emperor was known as Charles the Bald.

Good Afternoon, Folks!

It´s a hot day here,  25°C and rising. Those southwesterly winds brought us hot and humid air, and I expect a thunderstorm early this evening!

No MRRing today, as my back continues to yell insults at me. I try to calm the pain down with a dose of Ibuprofen, but that works only for a few moments. The joys of age!

Ray - what a gruesome sense of humor Smile, Wink & Grin

JaBear - I like those narrow gauge  NZR Pacifics!

Have a good one, Folks!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a Mexican Omlet (leave the hot sauce) and a huge pot of marrakesh Express Dark Roast Organic Coffee to wash it down with...

A happy Cinco de Mayo to all.  Doing some other research today I ran across the true story…

A Little History for Those Who May Not Know...

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was manufactured in England.  In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York.

This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico.... But as we know....the great ship did not make it to New York....The ship hit an iceberg and sank .... and the cargo was forever lost....

The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery .... were disconsolate at the loss....

Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning which they still observe to this day.... The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th.... and is known....of course....as Sinko de Mayo....

JaBear, well now I understand your screen name...  I loved the videos (even the bagpipes...).  I am a fan of both steam locomotives and world music!  Besides, I am of Scottish Heritage I'm told.

Good Morning Diners,

Flo, I'll have my usual giant cup of coffee with large amounts of cream, please.

No doubt yesterday was started by nerds in search of a life, but I did like the play on words.  I thought it was kind of cute and a little creative.

Ken:  Wow, that must have really made your day.  did you know anything about it before hand?

We're going to have rain all day.  I'll take it any and every day over that white stuff!

Found an MR locomotive drawing for an SP U-30C, which in comparing pics of the prototypes, I can scale parts of the drawing where it applies to my U-33C shells.  I don't remember if MR made drawings of the U-33C, but I'm thinking they may have.

Speaking of, if our hosts are listening, how about putting the plans of all of those wonderful locomotive drawings on the web site.  Charge per plan if you must, but those would be most helpful.  Maybe you could do the same for structures, too?

well, have to go.

i hope everyone is OK and safe.

Less is more,...more or less!

Evening All, a cup of green tea please Chloe.
Well I must say I was surprised with the favourable remarks the Pipes and Steam clip got. I thought I might be taking a risk as bag pipes are either loved or loathed; there appears to be no middle ground.
Just a quick note: the NZ National Film Unit was government owned, set up to provide information and propaganda during WW2 and continued to make newsreels, documentaries and promotional films. The Weekly Review was free to cinemas and along with a couple of cartoons, Bugs Bunny immediately comes to mind, were played before the feature film. As television wasn’t introduced until the early 60s, schools also received these free, and sometimes with the cartoons attached. Yes, it does have Ja footage.Smile, Wink & Grin

It could be legal, it could be illegal, it could be fun for all, it could no fun for some, it could be perfectly good, or it could be perfectly bad, it could be a family affair, or it could be a solo affair...one never knows...I wonder WHO decides these things???

Evening all,  The grass is growing rapidly in SE Ohio requiring spending time mowing I could be working on trackwork.  It was a nice afternoon to be outside, however.

Visited a couple area layouts Saturday as part of the Division NMRA meeting held once a year near home.  Both layouts featured steel mills which was the theme of the meeting.

My poor grandaughter's old Suburu blew out two tires on her way home from college today.  Found out she had a bad brake caliper with stuck pads on the rear and overheated the tire bead causing the blow out.  It is going to cost her about $450  to get back on the road.  Fortunately she was able to stay at one of my daughter's old high school classmates home while her car is being repaired.  She is driving an Outback with something like 320k miles.  Pretty durable car.

I don't believe in Star Wars day, probably because it was created by nerds. But I do watch the shows and movies.

I do believe in National Train Day on May 10th.

When I ride one of the mountain bikes, I wear women's shoes. Embarrassed (Shhh.)

My wife wears junior ski boots.  We have senior discount passes.  They're great for her, and considerably cheaper than adult boots.  I've got small friends at hockey who wear junior skates, too.

One night, we got up north to our ski condo and discovered we'd forgotten a nightgown for our then pre-school daughter.  We just put her in one of my T-shirts, which came down to her ankles.  She giggled with delight, listened to her story, and went happily off to sleep.

I use the same shoes (Shimano, I think) with compatible bindings and pedals for both bikes. . .

My problem is I have an A-width foot, so finding cycling shoes that are narrow enough is a bit of a challenge. A few years back I found a pair of A-width Rocket7 road shoes on clearance and I snapped them up. When I ride one of the mountain bikes, I wear women's shoes. Embarrassed (Shhh.)

Well, I just rode on the road. . .

I did, too, but not on the road bike. The bike is fine, but I sent my shoes in for repair. I have a mountain bike with road-friendly tires I am riding in the mean time.

I use the same shoes (Shimano, I think) with compatible bindings and pedals for both bikes.  I still have the old flat-shoe pedals around for the mountain bike, and as a pack rat I might even be able to find the original rat traps for the Guerciotti.  I'd rather lock in on both bikes, though.

Well, I just rode on the road.  Since it was a nice day today and I had other business to attend to over the weekend, I got out on my road bike again.  I considered taking the mountain bike down the old Bedford & Billerica right-of-way, but I noticed the pollen level this morning and decided the road would be better than the trail today.  Either way, I'm getting my exercise.

I got some more track laid this morning, and then noticed that I'd messed up earlier, and had a huge gap in one rail at a rail joiner.  I'm pretty sure it happened while I was trying to squeeze those Peco rail joiners on to Atlas flex track.  The Peco joiners are a reminder of the Great Track Shortage.  The just don't fit, and have to be mechanically stretched.  Even then, putting them on is a struggle and I'm sure I pushed the rail too hard from one end and it slid out the other.  Regardless of how I made this mistake, I've got some remedial work to do.  Since it's fashionable to blame a President and mine is primarily a Transition Era layout, well, it's Truman's fault!

It's warm and nice out, so we're going to have grilled salmon steaks tonight.  I should probably marinate them in something.

I believe it has developed that when you say O gauge that means 3 rail. When you say O scale that means 2 rail scale.

Only at your end of the Big Pond, Dennis - the Brits still say O gauge, meaning 7mm scale (that´s 7mm to the foot).

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the #2 special, over easy eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of the sour dough toast.  Need a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast coffee as well.

Went to the vampire this morning...  She got blood the first try and a hardly felt the needle!  Cute young thing as well!!! Cool  Stopped at the Pharmacy (same building) and picked up a couple things, then headed over to Water Street Café.  No sooner got home than one of the neighbors around the corner was walking by.  I waved and he came up the driveway.  Now we have been neighbors for 30+ years but had never formally met until now.  He wanted to know if I am the same guy who is the model railroader...  Turns out he is too.  We stood and talked in the driveway for abiut 45 minutes.  Told him I'll have him come over to see the layout as soon as I have trains running again.  He is an "O Gauger" I guess......

Loved the videos Bear!  Do wish those Scotsmen could play in tune though..... (Kidding, just kidding!!!)  Bagpipes are actually perfectly in tune but just use a very ancient scale instead of the scale that came from Pythagoras' discovery of the overtones naturally created on a string.  He gave us the circle of 5ths.  Actually it should be the Circle of 12ths. as that is the dominant overtone he used to create the 12 tones in a octave...  OK, done with todays Music Theory lesson....

Back in 1971 my next door neighbor had himself a Porsche 911T.  He used to let me drive it on occasion!!!  CoolCoolYesYes
