Stuff that a model railroader never says
Posted by russ_q4b on Sunday, June 22, 2014 2:16 PM

Here are some of my thoughts

I spend more time running my trains than building my layout.

Going to the Timonium Train show is a waste of time, I almost never find anything that I am interested in.

Who is John Allen?

I would work on my layout, but there is too much good stuff to watch on TV.

50 miles is too far to drive to a hobby shop.

Please add your thoughts

How about:

"I have enough stuff."

"There is no need for anybody to try to build a better model  ___________ ."  (fill in the blank)

"That guy's preferences & priorities are EXACTLY the same as mine."

"Your mother could move in with us if I took down my layout."

"When I retire, I want a small house with no basement, garage or attic to worry about."

"My model railroading dollar seems to buy more every year."

LOL, Mr. B!

I have waaaay too much room for my layout.

I really should get ready for the ops session I'm hosting tonight, hon, but I'd rather watch (fill in the blank for your least favourite TV programme) ____CSI clones and other cops an' bad guys shows________ with you...'kay?

It's okay, the soldering iron tip should be cool by now.

Here's some more stuff

What's so great about Horseshoe curve?

Why do some model railroaders buy topographical maps of West Virginia?

Every steam locomotive I want for my layout is on the market.

I never heard of the Franklin and South Manchester layout.

When Model Railroader arrives I always mistake it for junk mail.

I built my layout so my cat(s) have something to play with.

C'mon keep it coming

John Allens final layout wasn't very impressive

The wife said for my next layout I could use the entire living room

My mother in law gave me a scratchbuilt boxcar she made herself

I'd rather cut the grass than work on the layout.

I've lost interest because I've learned everything there is to know about the hobby and I've mastered all the techniques.

When I work on a tough kit I'm so thankful that I'm so patient and never get frustrated.

Thank goodness I've never made a mistake on the layout.

There are so many good hobby shops nearby that it's hard to decide which one to visit.

I don't understand why Rod Stewart, the big rock star, would go to Peabody MA to visit a nobody named George Sellios

When I heard the diesel horn early in the morning, I think it's ruining the silence.

I have plenty of Amtrak diesels and coaches.

Hi everyone:

Your comments are all very funny.

How about:

"I'll never search for model trains on eBay ever again!"

"I don't want any more of those..."

"I tell my wife about every single penny I spend on train stuff"

"That's too detailed"

"I'm happy that I have so many different types of decoders in my locomotives"

"I love working with things I can hardly see"

"My hands get steadier every day"

"This is a waste of my time"

"Letting the smoke out of a decoder is a great way to learn"

"I love the challenge when a locomotive won't run smoothly (or at all)"

"DCC is a breeze!"

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

I think I'll just throw away this...

Boy, those rusty ol' corrugated buildings with faded signs on them and machinery in them sure are eyesores.

This nasty old sagebrush will never have any  use.

There's an article on that very subject in my extensive collection of Model Railroader magazines, Why, Yes here it is right where I thought it was, that was easy...

Creosote stinks.

Oh, Making the first one of those was easy,  and then making an exact matching copy of it was even easier.

It's so cute when my wife's cat jumps up there.

I love how superglue just flows in and dries only on the part's it's supposed to.

Thank goodness when I dropped that tiny thing  on the floor, it was easy to find, cuz it's important and the only one I have.

I can't get it working right. I'll just go to bed and not think about it.

I will research that area on Bing and Google maps.

That "S" curve will work at normal switching speed.

I won't buy cars and locomotives that is too long for my 22" radius curves.

I will study the kit plan before building.

Things you will never hear a Model railroader say:

"what is  Walschaerts gear "?

"No, I am NOT addicted to trains"

"That model is too expensive at $20"

"What is a {2-8-2} Mike/Mikado?"

"I am sitting to close to the tracks for good railfanning"

" I already have that model,and I don't need anymore"

"No, honey, I am NOT addicted to Trains!"

"Model Power/TYCO made quality trains"

"I wish Model Power was back in business"

"I am NOT addicted to trains!"

"That train came out of nowhere!"

"I wish there wasn't a Steam/tourist line SO CLOSE to my home"..../ "I wish the toursit line was further away from my home"

"I have to many LHS's, I can't shop at them all!"

"I have too much money, I could never spend it all on trains..."

"Once, more people! I am NOT addicted to trains!"

Whistling

Why would I spend $30 on a Westerfield Ma & Pa boxcar, when I can buy an undecorated boxcar for $5 and add some Ma & Pa decals?   Who would notice?

The railroad that I am modeling does not have any tunnels nor high bridges, so I won't have tunnels and high bridges on my layout.

Why would someone spend $400 on a craftsman kit?  It's basically of box full of scrapwood, cardboard and some metal castings
