well,

since y'all assured me i could do a wifi router without the cable company involved, i have combed amazon, videos on how to set one up for beginners, how to do this, how to do that, read reviews of several wifi's, and now i m thoroughly convinced I am more confused than ever about the matter!

Its like being able to buy any of the 300-some odd models of cars they say are available here..IF money was no object! However would you choose?

maybe I go to Best Buy after the filling at the dentist and look and have the "geek squad" install it?

I truely am of late feeling like a dinosaur. Maybe even cro-magnum man! {form the paleolithic period  (c. 35,000–10,000 BC) living in caves} I'll bet HE never had mroe worried than where his next non-poisoned meal is coming form!

well, once again , in a short period, my BRAIN hURTS.

I've got a good recipie for spicy chicken- "Sinus clearin' Chicken".  Tons of Paprika, Cayane pepper, and other hot stuff.  I did some more work on the club layout today, mostly installing half a bridge and some carpet trees (ground up carpet padding dyed green).  I made a Jimmy Dean Sausage skillet thing for dinner tonight, and that turned out pretty delicious considering how simple it is to make.  We may be getting some rain in the next few hours-and I am glad for that-too humid here, and it's been cloudy all day.  With any luck I may be getting the Monongahela Heritage unit in a town called Monongahela (Yes, not part of the original MGA trackage but still-how many heritage units pass through a town with the same name as the company besides Savannah and Atlanta, Erie, and the Reading), provided I catch it on the scanner a few miles before my usual fanning spot.  Not sure what tonight has in store for me really.

This also showed up in town...I love seeing the history of my town coming out-even better when it is traces of the trolley line with the rail still in the brick

(My Model Railroad, My Rules)

These are the opinions of an under 35 , from the east end of, and modeling, the same section of the Wheeling and Lake Erie railway.  As well as a freelanced road (Austinville and Dynamite City railroad).

Well

Train nut friend left...I showed him how I make my meatloaf..it is his favorite dish, but he never had mine..you know I make it by a little of this, a little of that, some of this, some of that, a few of these and a few of those... he wathced and made copious notes so can replicate at a later time maybe even tonight.

He is now also disabled with a wired up contraption in his back, so he is the "housewife" role now{like me} and his wife is the bread winner, and now has 2 jobs...They are struggling with mortgage issues too. He desn't have much in his repertroir of cooking and what he DOES make he has made over and over so much the wife and kid have threatened to tie him up with the spaghetti and beat him with a wet noodle! The kid si only good for 2 dishes, and train nut frined wants to be able to cook more so the wife doesn't have to work hard all day, then come home and cook all night to fix dinner. SMART MAN!

So, he copiously watched, took notes and got my recipies for: meatloaf, smashed taters, and BBQ'd Chix. I cooked boht the meatloaf and chix in the same oven for different times to cook 2 meals at once, he thought that a novel idea!

Then we watched A TASTE OF HISTORY on RLTV channel where a German chef cooks the way they did in the 18th century over a fire in a fireplace adn behive oven, liek Thomas Jefferson, G. Washington and such would have had cooked or cooked themsolves to serve guests at their respective manses. He was catching on. Will he remember, WHO knows?

So, that is it for now, I have the "never ending chores" {dishes and laundry} going again now.Dishes are down to 2 soaking pieces and laundry down to finishing the dryer load and MAYBE the last remaining tidbits left of another load.

later...dinner tonight will be the mighty tasty meatloaf, smashed taters and corn off the cob!

It´s past 7.30pm over here, so there is a Good Evening to you all!

I have done about half of the layout, the rest will follow tomorrow. Looks a little to clean, but some weathering and the odd weed growing out of the track will take care of it. I already feel, that I will have to spend some time getting the layout operational again.  When that is achieved, I will have to revisit the drawing of the engine house. It needs a few touch-ups on the construction drawings to be more in line with this one:

I am not particularly fond of the color, mine will be a touch more to aged, gray wood.

Calling it quits now - I am exhausted and my back is screaming at me from standing up all day long, w*rking on the layout.

Have a good night and CU tomorrow!

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, just a refill for my dark roast coffee please, and thank you....

Just got home from doing a sales event for handicaped Cub Scout aged youth at a nearby BOCES School.  We had several of the kids interested in joining.  Remains to be seen if any of them show up at the meeting tomorrow night.

I hope to get one more raised bed garden planted beofre I have to head out to a District Scout Roundtable tonight.  Ice Cream Social, end of the season event to thank all the leaders who make Scouting possible here.  I shall reserve room for an Ice Cream Sundae afetr supper tonight!

Ken, hope you get the finances straightened out soon.  The only reverse mortgage I would ever consider would be one where I sell my house to my children.  My sisters and I did that to help out my Father and Mother near the end of their lives.  My Father insisted that he did not want a formal drawn up mortgage with interest figured in and such.  He just "sold" us the house for $1 and we shook hands on a monthly payment to them.  That mistake cost us thousands of dollars that could have gone to paying for our mother to stay in Assisted Living as we ended up having to pay taxes on the house we "bought" as personal income and couldn't claim the $$$ we had been paying them all that time....  Couldn't tell my Father that though.  We had two months of money left in the account for her when she fell and broke her hip which proved to be the end of her.  What ever you do consult and work through a good lawyer (and yes there are good ones still left out there) and heed their advise.

Catch you all later!

 Morning Folks

 Flo, Dew Pleases.

Did not sleep well last night, with the new set of worries. On paper, I maybe able to afford the house payment, but that is on paper. Real life on the other hand?

My biggest problem is how unstable my inome is. 1 week I might only make $400.00 in base pay only and then net week $600 or $800.00. I do have a nest egg of around $5200.00 so I do have some funds to fall back on. Problem is the wife thinks I should dip into it anytime she thnks she needs something.

Far as reverse mortgages, I will look at a few. If it can save me $300.00 a month it might be worth it. Again, I will not do a thing till my lawyer looks at it!

 See you all later

The ballast ariived just when we had our lunch - talking about Mr.Murphy!

Well, instead of taking a nap, I started ballasting! First of all, I bought way too much ballast. A third less would have done easily Grumpy. Second, O sclae ballast does spread a lot easier than HO ballast, let alone N scale ballast. It is still a tedious task. In about 3 hours, I have covered maybe 4 ft, including some switches. Now I will let it dry thoroughly before evaluating the job I did .

I used the good old white glue, diluted with water (1part glue, 1 part water, plus a drop of detergent) to glue the ballast, Prior to applying the glue, I gave the track a generous spray with "wet" water. Let´s see how that turns out.

Train nut friend is coming over today, after some errands. He will be here for awhile viisting.

I did not sleep well last night, no more than 45 mins at a time. So I spent some waking time playing with the new toys!

later he's here!

Good morning. It's 71° with 100% humidity. The word for today is cloudy. No mention of rain. The high will be 88°.
Morning: . Later: .

No plans for today so I'll just be watching some movies and working on whatever strikes my interest. Right now I'm just waiting on the Home Health nurse to call.

Good morning.  Cloudy with showers, but I'm at work anyway, and these days I'm cheering for the lawn.  Now that the daytime temperatures are in the sixties, I'm happy with temperatures that require neither heat nor AC.  My car has a garage, my grill has an overhang so life is good.

galaxy irately remarked:

I'm tired of people thinking "renter's don't pay land/school taxes"...guess what, when they go up on hte whole property, so does our rent! And when taxes GO DOWN, we get NO discount either, they KEEP the "extra"!!

What?  You have taxes that go down?  That never happens here.  Taxes have been "monotonically increasing" ever since I learned that phrase in middle school math class.

Ken, remember how you found out about reverse mortgages.  TV ads, right?  Starring The Fonz from Happy Days.  When aging, out-of-work actors tell you to buy something on either daytime or late night TV, that should set off a red flag right there.

We had a good hockey game last night.  It's always fun.  A guy everyone but me calls "Old Joe" (I call him "Young Joe") showed up with quite a pair of black eyes.  He's about 62, but he was racing his motorcycle on a dirt oval over the weekend (in an organized race) and went down trying to pass the other 3 guys in his heat.  He was all smiles.  You've just gotta love that kind of spirit.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Good Morning!

I just typed a lengthy post and hit the wrong button - Mr. Murphy hasn´t yet moved out of my place!

It´s a lovely day today, no cloud to be seen, comfortable temperature of 22°C - my kind of weather!

Made an appointment with our Volkswagen dealer for the annual service. That´ll be about $ 250 including an oil change. A lot of dough for the little we drive. In that one year, we have driven about 4,000 miles only.

On the way back I bought a jar of white glue and stopped at our local carpenter´s place, where I got two sizable sheets of veneer - for free! Building the engine house will be the next project, right after ballasting the track. I still feel a little intimidated by my failure on the backdrop, so that project is postponed for a while.

Ken - Galaxy is right - take a look at what Wikipedia says about reverse mortgages!

Have a great day!

Has anyone dealt with the Reverse Mortgage’s?

 Ken

Hi KEN! I'd be happy with a $843 MORTGAGE...We pay $350/m RENT for a 21'x 80' plot of land on which to park our 14' x 65' {called 70'} trailer! Now we DO get "free water", "free garbage pickup" {i can go to the dump, i'm a big boy}, Land TAXES ARE included in our rent! I'm tired of people thinking "renter's don't pay land/school taxes"...guess what, when they go up on hte whole property, so does our rent! And when taxes GO DOWN, we get NO discount either, they KEEP the "extra"!!

Now, granted the $620 would be better, but you still OWN far more than we do....Whistling

Your house is bound to ultimately grow in value over time, our 1983 trailer is worth about a whole $5k now, and WILL ONLY GO DOWN in value.

Actually I'd be happy with a $620 mortgage, too, if only it were for a house....SleepZzz in my dreams! That'd be about all we COULD afford.

Now: for REVERSE MORT.:
Form what I have seen on teh news happening:

BE VERY CAREFUL with the REVERSE mortgages!! Some will put Sue out of house and home if you died! If one partners dies, the total payout paid during the R. Mort. becomes DUE and PAYABLE OR the survivor is OUT of the house, losing it, no matter how much time  is "left" on the R Mort.!

Others apparently will be until EACH {BOTH} signers dies, if the R. mortgage is owned jointly.

ALSO: if you intend to leave the house to any heirs, THEY will have to back-pay all the payouts or Forfeit the house!

ALso, {not sure on this one} but if your house becomes worth LESS than the payout, you might be responsible to back-pay the "overage" they paid you.

SO, BE VERY CAREULL!
hire a Lawyer to go over any details about such and such on the R mort. TOO!

GOOD Luck!

Good evening. Haven't heard back from the docs office on the lab results. I'll call tomorrow and check it out.

I got very little done today. Did the grocery shopping this morning, did a little work on the //e and watched a couple of movies.

All the Apple software I copy mine from comes from a megarom file I downloaded from a computer forum last year. I don't want to lose this file so it's been copied to my external hard drive, several USB flash drives and all ten of the SD cards that I have my Apple software archived on. Unless something catastrophic happens I'm not gonna lose that file.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

I guess you could say I really like Tabasco. There's three bottles of original, one habanero and one jalapeno.

Evening Dinners

Flo Beers pleases, Todd’s Tap Again? He ate what? OK, here you go.

A Miracle Happen Today And I have Mixed Feeling.Whistling

Got another Fed X letter from BoS!  They finally modified my house loan! My first letter from BoS about this is dated September 22, 2010. So it has only taken a little less than 4 years to get this done.      Bang Head

When I started this quest interest rate was around 2.5%. Now it is in the mid 4’s. So what would have been a $620.00 is now an $843.00 payment.  Sigh

So, you see why I have mixed feels about this Miracle. I don’t want to be a slave to the house payment again!

I will have my lawyer look at the papers before I sign a thing! Heck, I did not even check to see if they have the address corrected yet.

Has anyone dealt with the Reverse Mortgage’s?

Just told Sue about the Fed X package, she seems to feel about the same as myself.

Hmm Banquet boxed chix is like $7 here... i hope that gets you through the month? MOH is a BIG "snacker" I try to get those at Aldi, you may not have one down there?

Nope, no Aldi markets here. Laws in Louisiana make it hard for foreign companies. Heck, it took about ten years for Dairy Queen to get authorization to operate here. The Banquet boxed chicken I got is a 42oz family pack. Yeah, I only get $32 in SNAP benefit. It helps though.

well, JEFREY: I feel for you:you probably didn't get much for your $80-some bucks? I used to spend $100 at the grocery now up to $150! and come home with not much.

I got forty-seven items.

three 8-packs of chimichangas  $3.28 each
two loafs of bread $1.28 each
two 22-pack boxes of microwave popcorn  $5.00 each
One box of fried chicken  $8.97
Seventeen cans of chili  $1.00 each
One jar of sliced olives  $2.17
One 24oz bottle of mustard  $1.46
One bottle of Tabasco  $1.34
Six boxes of flavored drink mixes   $1.74 each
Eight packaged rice dinners  $1.00 each
Three packs of bologna  $1.28 each
Two 16-slice packs of cheese  $1.25 each

Not too bad.

MOH is a BIG "snacker" I try to get those at Aldi, you may not have one down there?

And we have to have  "well balanced diet dinner"...meat {preferably BEEF accoridng to MOH}, veggies {steamed fresh, salad or canned, sometimes frzen},and a starch...but have to rotate what we have as MOH will revolt!

Balony, chilly and rice won't cut it here, unfortuantely. The tabasco MOH would like, as well as the olives{provided tehy are the black kind}!

We USED to love snacking rarely on ocassion on Ramen Noodles, until we say they don't break down in the digestive track. I need to give those away or throw out.

Hope it does you for awhile! I can't believe how little they give you for SnAP.

WEll

I am official brain-dead...the class..well I am still overwhelmed.

1} the program on the big screen he used is OLD so outdated for many things

2} there were 2 in classs..with diff. phones doing diff things {though both android programmed},adn instructor had 3rd phone type...

3} instructor's phone was "dead" as he just changed his phone system!

SO: we could NOT do half the stuff properly and only got 1/3rd way through the supposed class needs. I am overloaded! NOT as easy as other people make it look, not for an old man who just got weened form flip phone heavenly bliss.
OH, and my phone system has an error in it I was supposed to see somebody aobut before i left, but forgot. Maybe tonight for the ellipsis tablet "party" some will be review on it.

whew! alomst "Burned out" on it. What happened to the old fashioned way of talking on the phone to each other?? Kids won't know to say "hello" soon enough without first sending text message?

well, JEFREY: I feel for you:you probably didn't get much for your $80-some bucks?  I used to spend $100 at the grocery now up to $150! and come home with not much.

ULRICH: sorry, but sometimes we have to start over, DON"T SWEAT IT! or "nicht schwitzen"!!!

well, almost time for the mail

Good morning. It's 82° and feels like 85°. The humidity is 66%. The high will be 90°, it's cloudy and there's a small chance of rain.
 with

Got the doc appointment out of the way. My sister dropped me off at the docs office and picked me up when I was finished there and we went to Wal-Mart to get the grocery shopping done. I spent $82 on groceries so now I'm officially flat broke. The appointment was for a general checkup, EKG and lab work (urine sample and feed the vampire).

I have no further plans for today. I'll just take or duck whatever comes along.

Afternoon Folks!

I am running on a high level of frustration today. A week´s w*rk down the drain!

To have at least some kind of success I painted the track with my own mixture of railroad tie brown. Looks a lot better than those shiny rails and shining black plastic ties. The ballast will most likely arrive tomorrow, so ballasting will take me to the weekend!

The backdrop will rest a little while as I have to rethink my options (in view of my abilities).

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, just a bowl of organic granola cereal and lots of Seneca Lake Blend dark roast coffee to keep my R&GV RR mug filled for a while...

So much for working in the garden today...  Sitting here at the computer waiting for the thunderboomers to be added to the rain that is currently falling outside.  Currently 72°F outside under dark cloudy, rainy, stormy, skies.  I certainly have enough to keep me busy inside todaqy after making the rounds of errands I have on the list.  Have a Cub Scout Event to attend tonight, one early tomorrow m orning, tomorrow night, and again on Thursday.  Remember Scouting doesn't take much of your time, just an hour a week...Whistling  Oh well, I do enjoy what I do for Scouting still after 38 years as a leader.

Galaxy mentioned the State Trooper murdered near Bighamton, NY.  As an FYI, here is an article about what happened.  The police tracked the guy using dogs and helicopters and found him without any clothes on hidden in the woods...  Guess he thought he could hide better without clothes.WhistlingSigh  Something went seriously haywire with this guy!

Better get myself moving before the storms hit!

Later!

Heartland Division CB&Q

Good morning, everybody

Birthday front:

…… Our granddaughter is 13 today.

Galaxy … Your experience was storm related. We had a similar experience with the 2009 KY ice storm. We had no power for 9 days. … Also, Galaxy: Sorry to hear about the Trooper’s death.

Wish your granddaughter a happy "teen" B-day for all of us! Look out now! next comes hormones, boys, hissy-fits, alienation of the "authority figures" as she asserts her indpendence...adn MORE! Oh goody!

Garry: whenever there is now moderate flooding around here, we get nervous as the substation that feeds us is in a flood plain, and when it gets flooded, there is automaticaly 5 days at least of no power! They have to wiat for the h2o to go down, then the station to dry out too....

Have a great day! I'm off soon to a class on how to use the phone. I finally got the automatic voice-activated control to work!

Good morning, everybody

Birthday front:

…… David Parks: Happy Birthday! (Day late) .. hope it was a good one.
…… Cdn Dennis: We’ll be ready to celebrate yours tomorrow. What’s your favorite kind of cake?
…… Our granddaughter is 13 today.

Barry: Have not seen you post lately. Hope you are okay.

Ulrich : … Your sky is evolving nicely. Keep up the good work. I know what you mean about looking at clouds outside while painting a backdrop. I notice clouds overhead look different from clouds at the horizon.

Ray ….. Sounds like it was messy with the turkey in the freezer. I cleaned this one, and I got it going again after a refrigeration guy told me how. I still don’t trust it, and it will go to the recycle collection place soon.

Galaxy … Your experience was storm related. We had a similar experience with the 2009 KY ice storm. We had no power for 9 days. … Also, Galaxy: Sorry to hear about the Trooper’s death.

California Dennis …. I love getting EBay deals like you did. Have fun with your challenger. … Also, Dennis we’ll be visiting your state late this month.

Dave in Ontario… I’m not sure if the new bridges will have anything specifically for the ospreys, but they are good at finding nesting spots. They have nests on trees, buoys, and other places. I feel sad to think what might happen to existing nests when the bridges are dismantled. I’ll ask a Fish & Wildlife guy what he knows. Yes, it is interesting to see them dive into the water for fish. We have seen bald eagles do that too.…. Also, Dave, thanks for the complement in the roads thread.

Mr. B ….. I really like your Yellow Brick Road scene with Oz figures.

Good morning, and a lovely day it is, too.  Mid-60s, not a cloud in the sky.  Of course, that will change by tomorrow, but it's nice while it lasts.  Of course, I'm stuck inside all day.  But, that might not last even the short time I've planned.  We just heard that our company did not win the significant contract they'd hoped for, so there may be voluntary layoffs again.  That's my personal Yellow Brick Road to retirement.

No guarantee on that, of course, but it sure would be nice.

More immediately, I was glad to hear that we are not going to Maine this weekend after all.  It would have been another episode of my wife's continuing saga of dealing with her brother and his dysfunctional family.  But, her brother had other plans, and really, Penny needs to decompress.  With her trip to Ireland, getting ready for her trip to Ireland and the nephew's memorial service, she's been going straight out for 2 months.  Instead, I hope to get some lumber and start on Phase 3 of my layout.

I drink Dr Pepper sometimes, too, but David, you're "of age" now.  Have a Beer.  A nice India Pale Ale.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Today is the Funeral of NYS Trooper Chris Skinner, killed in the line of duty due to a PERSON {I cannot use the appropriate word here} purposely driving into him and killing him while the trooper was giving a ticket on the Interestate.

How awful and absurd! Prayers for those he leaves behind!

Mr. Murphy has taken permanent residence in my train room!

I started addig a shade of gray to the lower part of the clouds and it looked just awful! I completely goofed it up! As soon as the paint had dried up, I took a big brush and covered nearly everything up with the remnants of the light blue paint I had left over. Looks better than before, more like a hazy day with various degrees of haze in the sky. I am not going to touch it for a while, but will continue with the things I know how to do

Sigh

Morning Folks!

It´s a lovely day outside - with sunshine, but also lots of interesting cloud formations to watch. Seems as if I am not too far off with my background. I´ll be adding some gray to the lower end of the clouds, as this is what I have observed in the past couple of days.

My order of ballast is on its way to me, so that´s what´s going to happen in the next few days, painting the track and ballasting. I hope that O scale ballast is a little easier to apply than N scale ballast, which hardly stays where it is supposed to. When that is done, I will go for my first building - the engine house, providing I can get some leftover pieces of veneer free of charge! The only expense I can afford is a jar of white glue...

Have a good one!

Garry:

Sorry about your freezer! Messy!

Do you happen to know if there will be any measures taken to help the Ospreys re-establish their nests when the new bridge is built? It doesn't take much. A simple platform about five or six feet square with a rim around it can be mounted just about anywhere and the Ospreys will take to it like kids to cookies.

In Ontario the utility companies put extra tall poles in suitable locations with platforms on top to provide nesting spots. I think they will also erect poles on private property for the same purpose. We have one just up the road and it has a new brood in it this year. The babies are still small but you can see their heads poking up out of the nest when mom or pop returns with food. I believe the nesting platform program was started to replace the loss of suitable trees due to land clearing.

They are thrilling birds to watch, especially when they are diving for fish.

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
